After Day 1 of the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction, Punjab Kings (PBKS) head coach Anil Kumble said that the management was looking to build a "strong core team" around the retained players.&nbsp;

On Saturday, that is the first day of auction proceedings ended with massive reshuffling as several players found new camps to represent from next season.&nbsp;

At the end of the day, Kumble said: "We had a clear vision of who we wanted to bring into our team at the auction. We were looking to build a strong core team around our retained players."

He further said that the franchise was looking at players that would add "balance" to the squad. He said, "We got some interesting picks and are looking forward to tomorrow when our squad will be complete."&nbsp;

PBKS had retained Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh. In the auction, they made successful bids for Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Rahul Chahar and Shahrukh Khan. They also bought Harpreet Brar, Prabhsimran Singh, Ishan Porel and Jitesh Sharma.&nbsp;

Pooran had a horrendous last IPL but is still considered among one of the biggest T20 hitters plus a safe gloveman, and at times, a brilliant outfielder. It also had a lot to do with the kind of purse that SRH and Punjab Kings had, which certainly inflated his bid.

As far as Matthew Wade who played a blinder in the T20 World Cup semi-final against Pakistan, he isn't the best player of spin bowling on sluggish surfaces, and hence, Bairstow, who has shown his IPL wares, got a deal.

The IPL 2022 mega auction came to an end on Sunday evening (February 13). The two-day affair made the headlines as it saw many big players being sold for a whopping sum whereas some known faces went unsold. The domestic and relatively inexperienced campaigners also found some takers in the mega auction ahead of the IPL 2022 season.&nbsp;

The IPL 2021 champions and four-time winners MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came into the mega auction with INR 480 million (INR 48 crore) in their purse. They had retained the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali. In the mega auction, CSK did miss out on signing&nbsp;or resigning&nbsp;some big names. However, they bought back fast-bowling all-rounders Deepak Chahar (INR 140 million), Dwayne Bravo, opener Robin Uthappa (INR 20 million), versatile batter Ambati Rayudu (INR 67.5 million)&nbsp;and spin-bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner.

Among the new buys, the Yellow Army roped in New Zealand opener Devon Conway (INR 10 million),&nbsp;acquired the services of Proteas all-rounder Dwaine Pretorious (INR 5 million) and went hard to add some unknown players as well -- such as Tushar Despande (INR 2 million), Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Maheesh Theekshana, Subhranshu Senapati, Mukesh Choudhary, Bhagat Varma, Prashant Solanki and C Hari Nishaanth -- to bolster their bench strength.&nbsp;

Among the big misses, CSK didn't go strongly after the likes of Ishan Kishan, David Warner, or pacer Kagiso Rabada and failed to re-sign Shardul Thakur and Faf du Plessis. The biggest name missing in their line-up is Chinna Thala Suresh Raina, also known as Mr. IPL. Raina has represented CSK since the tournament's inception, after playing for now-defunct Gujarat Lions (GL) in 2016 and 2017 editions, but saw his stocks going down considerably since 2018 to be left out.

CSK have considerably strengthened their all-round department with as many as over five players in the mix. Shivam Dube, who has joined the Dhoni-led brigade for INR 40 million (INR 4 crore), will add to their batting. On the other hand, Kiwi speedster Adam Milne (INR 19 million) and England's death-overs specialist Chris Jordan (INR 36 million) will also like to replicate ex-CSK pacers'&nbsp;success in the upcoming 2022 season.

The mega auction, held after four years, also stood out for many players being shifted to a new franchise as the IPL 2022 edition promises to be an enthralling and engaging ten-team tournament, set to be held in March-May this year. Talking about the two-time winners and IPL 2021 runners-up KKR, they entered the auction pool with INR 480 million (INR 48 crore). Prior to the mega auction, the Shahrukh Khan-co-owned franchise had retained four players: Varun Chakravarthy (INR 80 million), Sunil Narine (INR 60 million), Venkatesh Iyer (INR 80 million) and Andre Russell (INR 120 million).&nbsp;

In the mega auction, KKR have revamped decently with plenty of new additions whereas they have also managed to bring back some vital cogs. However, some questions still remain.

They have invested heavily on various all-rounders, such as Pat Cummins (re-signed for INR 72.5 million), Md Nabi, Nitish Rana, etc. The KKR unit managed to include wily swing bowler Tim Southee&nbsp;in their line-up as well and got some big names to fill their batting department, such as Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane (INR 10 million), Sheldon Jackson, Alex Hales, Sam Billings (INR 20 million).

KKR broke the bank for Iyer, the former Delhi Capitals' (DC) skipper, for INR 122.5 million (INR 12.25 crore). The Royals kicked off the proceedings with the signing of senior Indian off-spinner R Ashwin for Rs 5 crore (INR 50 million) before roping in the likes of Trent Boult, Devdutt Padikkal and Yuzvendra Chahal to assemble a star-studded squad that looks certainly capable of challenging for the silverware this year.

Mumbai Indians made England pacer Jofra Archer their priority signing on the second day of the mega auction and went all guns blazing to get him despite him not being available for the IPL 2022 season due to his ongoing recovery from an elbow injury. Archer will be in action in the IPL from the 2023 season.

Even at times, friends tell me, ‘Hey Charu, we miss you in cricket.’ I joke and say, ‘even I miss myself.’ But that being said, I have done a lot of leagues and other assignments, the recent being the Tata Open Maharashtra."

Dismissing the reports, the Narayana Health City in Bengaluru reports of former Indian cricketer being admitted are incorrect.&nbsp;

In a statement, Dr Nitin Manjunath, Facility Director at the Narayana Health City, said that Ganguly was at the hospital to meet Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, who is the chairman and founder of Narayana Health.&nbsp;
