IPL 2022 is all set to get underway from March 26 with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locking horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the season-opener at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

This time around the Indian Premier League is all set to have ten instead of eight teams but each team will play 14 league games like before. The ten teams have been divided into two groups of five each with Mumbai Indians and CSK headlining Group A and B respectively.

As per the new format of the IPL, each team will play twice against the other four teams in their respective groups and against the team who are placed in the same row in the other group. There will be a total of 12 double headers in IPL 2022 with six on Saturdays and six on Sundays. The BCCI is so far announced the schedule for only the league stage of the competition featuring 70 matches in total. The venue and dates for the playoffs are yet to be announced while the final is confirmed to be played on May 29.

The final league game of the season will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings on May 22. The playoffs are expected to get underway from May 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The entire legaue stage will be hosted by four venues in Maharashtra.

The Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai will host 20 matches each during the league stage while the Brabourne Stadium and the MCA Stadium in Pune will host 15 matches apiece.

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday approved full-vaccinated spectators at 25 per cent of stadium capacity for the upcoming Indian Premier League matches, which are set to be held in Mumbai and Pune from March 26.

In an official statement issued in the evening here, the state government said considering that the COVID-19 cases have been on the decline, the crowd limit has been capped at 25 per cent and only fully vaccinated spectators will be permitted to enter the stadiums.

This was after the Maharashtra government on Wednesday conducted a meeting with BCCI and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for smooth conduct of the IPL, which is now a 10-team affair.

Post the meeting, in a series of tweets, Aaditya Thackeray said, "To ensure the smooth flow of the @IPL, Minister @mieknathshinde Ji and I conducted a joint meeting of IPL, @BCCI with officers of Police and Municipal Corporations of Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai."

He also said that the state's deputy Chief Minister would soon conduct a similar meeting for Pune, the other venue for IPL.

"For Pune, the meeting will be held soon, proposed to be chaired by DCM sir to ensure that the tournament is successfully carried out in all our city venues," said Aaditya, who is the son of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Earlier, it was learnt that IPL teams will start training in the city from March 14 or 15 onwards and five practice venues have been identified for them.

It is understood that the MCA ground in suburban Bandra Kurla Complex, MCA ground in Thane, the Dr DY Patil University ground and a football pitch along with the CCI (Cricket Club of India) and the Reliance Corporate Park ground in Ghansoli have been identified by the authorities as practice venues for the cash-rich tournament.

Players are likely to start coming into the city from March 8.

It is also understood that all the participants will have to undergo RT-PCR tests 48 hours prior to their arrival in Mumbai.

Players will also have to undergo 3-5 days of quarantine before entering their respective bubbles.

In isolation, the participants will undergo in-room RT PCR testing three times -- first on day one, second on day three and the final one on day five.

In case of a three-day quarantine, the participants will get tested every day and if all the three results are negative, they will be permitted to exit quarantine and commence team activities.

It is also understood that all the participants/personnel associated with the conduct of IPL (bubble/non bubble) will undergo RT PCR testing every three to five days during the entire length of the tournament.

While 10 plush hotels have been identified in Mumbai, two hotels have been zeroed in for Pune.

It is also learnt that the teams would be reaching the venues for practice or the match venues through a special "green corridor" and will be allowed to use the Eastern Freeway to go to Navi Mumbai or Thane from south Mumbai.

The civic authorities have also been asked to "beautify" the cities where the games are happening.

While in quarantine, they will undergo in-room RT-PCR testing three times, first on day 1, second on day 3 and the final one on day 5. In case of three days quarantine, they will get tested every day. If all three test results are negative, they will be permitted to exit quarantine and commence team activities," the source added.

MCA Ground in Thane and Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai are part of five grounds that have been allowed for the training of all ten teams by the BCCI.

"As all the teams will be playing matches across the four venues in Mumbai, Pune and they will also have practice sessions at various practice facilities. A green corridor will need to be created for their movement so that the bio bubbles are maintained. BCCI will follow the protocols of the biosecure movement for all the participants in the bubble," the source stated.

"During the travel to Navi Mumbai and Pune, it will be ideal to have a safe passage and smooth movement to avoid delays. If any member of a team ends up testing positive for COVID-19, they are likely to be allowed quarantine in the hotel and special arrangements will be made for that scenario," added the source.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had to let go of a number of their former superstars at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction despite trying hard to get them back. The five-time champions parted ways with the likes of Faf du Plessis, Josh Hazlewood&nbsp;and Shardul Thakur among others at the mega auction while also not buying back veteran batter Suresh Raina considering his age and form.

However, CSK did manage to get a number of their former stars back and went big for Indian pacer Deepak Chahar by spending a whopping Rs 14 crore to sign him at the mega auction. They also got back the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa and Mitchell Santner from their title-winning squad last year.

CSK have managed to once again build a strong squad ahead of the new season and will be hoping to bag their fifth IPL title this year. Ahead of the start of IPL 2022, former Australia spinner Brad Hogg shared his views on CSK's overall squad and named two players who can be the 'X-factors' for the franchise in the middle-order.

With no Raina in the team this year, Hogg reckons Rayudu and Uthappa will be key to CSK's success in the upcoming season. While Rayudu has been one of the most consistent batters for CSK since joining the team in 2018, Uthappa played some valuable cameos for the team in big games last year.

"Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa, in the middle order are going to be the X-Factors in the CSK side. They can take the pressure off the lower order," Hogg said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"I'm also gonna go with Conway opening the batting; I think he can play a huge role and bat through the innings and do a du Plessis job. CSK did really well at the auction, and they've got a very very good balanced team. They pick a lot of younger players and hope that they come through as Gaikwad did," said Hogg.

The report further adds that the Maharashtra Government is ready to provide full support to the BCCI in making IPL 2022 a successful event. The state government has reportedly promised a separate lane for easy movement of the IPL teams during the course of the tournament.

The separate lane will help the teams in beating the busy traffic in Mumbai and Pune while travelling to the stadiums and training venues. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA)'s ground in Bandra-Kurla Complex and Dadoji Kondadev Stadium in Thane are reportedly set to be used as training facilities for the IPL teams during the tournament.

RCB ended up getting the experienced batter for a sum of Rs 7 crore. Apart from Du Plessis, Hesson also states in the video that RCB should prioritise signing Sri Lankan all-rounder Hasaranga on day 1 of the mega auction.

“We see his (Faf's) role along with Hasaranga as two most important overseas roles to get on the first day. There are a number of different permutations and combinations to get to this point and I'm sure there will continue to be some. The change in his birth date made Hangargekar eligible to play for the India U-19 team in the U-19 World Cup 2022 which the country went on to win after beating England in the final. In his letter to the BCCI, Bakoria has reportedly stated that IAS officer Rahul Gupta has investigated the age fraud case and it was revealed that Hangargekar's birth date was listed as January 10, 2001 in the school records before being changed to November 10, 2002 at the time of his admission in the 8th grade.

“Dharashiv CEO Rahul Gupta investigated Rajvardhan Hangargekar’s birth date. It was found that he was admitted to a public school in Dharashiv where his birthdate was listed as 10 January 2001.
