India defended their women's cricket gold medal with a dominating 147-run win over Sri Lanka women at the Asian Games 2026 on Tuesday (Sep 22) at Nisshin.

This is India's first gold medal at the Asian Games 2026. The win came after India posted a mammoth 216/3 in its 20 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka was bowled out for a paltry 69 runs in 15.4 overs. India, which recently won the women's T20 Asia Cup by beating Sri Lanka in the final, had also won the 2023 Asian Games gold medal in the event.
India batters dismantle Sri Lanka bowlers
Batting first, India openers Smriti Mandhana (79 off 45) and Shafali Verma (48 off 29) added 99 runs for the opening wicket before Verma was dismissed at the 10-over mark. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (19 off 17) then joined Mandhana at the crease, and the duo added 42 runs for the second wicket. In the last four overs, India lost Mandhana, but Richa Ghosh smashed an unbeaten 49 off 22 balls to take India to a formidable total.

During the chase, the Sri Lankan innings could never get going, and they were 49/5 inside nine overs. The Indian bowlers didn't take much time to dismiss the rest of the Sri Lankan batting line-up, taking the remaining five wickets for just 20 runs. Deepti Sharma picked up 3/6, while Shafali, Shreyanka Patil, and Shree Charani picked up two wickets each.

In the bronze medal match, Pakistan Women beat Bangladesh Women to clinch the bronze medal. Batting first, the Pak women scored 145/8 and stopped Bangladesh Women at 114/7 in 20 overs to clinch third place in the event.
