'This is the time...,' Mithali Raj calls to move on from Harmanpreet Kaur as India women skipper

<p>Riding on opener&nbsp;Phoebe Litchfield's 119 and captain&nbsp;Alyssa Healy's 82, Australia women thrashed India women by 190 runs in the third and final ODI on Tuesday (Jan 2). With this, the visitors have inflicted a series whitewash over the hosts, at the&nbsp;Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, after conceding the only Test by eight wickets. It marks as a record win for Australia with nothing clicking for Harmanpreet Kaur &amp; Co. from the word go.</p>

<p>Winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first. Their openers Phoebe and Alyssa stitched a record 189-run stand for the first wicket, highest partnership by any pair versus the Indian eves in the format, to set the tone for a big total. After their dismissals, runs continued to flow as&nbsp;Ashleigh Gardner (30), Annabel Sutherland (23),&nbsp;Alana King (26) and&nbsp;Ellyse Perry (16) added to the scoreboard. Thus, Australia ended with the highest total by any team versus Harman &amp; Co. in women's ODI; 338 for 7.&nbsp;</p>

<p>From India's perspective, only youngster Shreyanka Patil (3 for 57) and all-rounder Deepti Sharma (1 for 53) conceded under&nbsp;six&nbsp;among those who completed their full quota of overs.</p>

Women's World Cup 2022: Lanning, Healy shine as clinical Australia beat inconsistent India by 6 wickets

<p>An inconsistent India paid the price for a shoddy batting effort but England infused a new life into their title defence with a four-wicket win in a league-stage game of the ICC Women World Cup, here on Wednesday.</p>

<p>Inconsistency returned to haunt Indian batters as they were bundled out for a meagre 134 by England, who chased down the target in 31.2 overs to record their first win in the tournament after a hat-trick of defeats.</p>

<p>India got some runs on the board, thanks to previous game's centurion Smriti Mandhana, who top-scored for the side with a 35-run knock while wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh made 33.</p>

<p><strong>ALSO READ:&nbsp;</strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/r-ashwin-scripts-history-becomes-first-bowler-to-complete-100-wickets-in-world-test-championship-462657">R Ashwin scripts history, becomes first bowler to complete 100 wickets in World Test Championship</a></p>

<p>With wickets falling intermittently, England bowled out India in 36.2 overs.<br />
England also made a stuttering start to their chase as they lost both their openers -- Danni Wyatt (1) and Tammy Beaumont (1) -- cheaply with the scoreboard reading four for two in the third over.</p>

<p>Wyatt was first to depart in the second over, courtesy a sensational diving catch by Sneh Rana off medium-pacer Meghna Singh (3/26).</p>

<p>Veteran Jhulan Goswami, the highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament, then trapped Beaumont in the second over after India went for the review. It was 250th wicket for the pacer in ODIs.</p>

<p>England skipper Heather Knight (53 not out) and Nat Sciver (45 off 46) then steadied England innings, playing cautiously to reach 34 for 2 in 10 overs.</p>

<p>While Knight played a captain's knock by anchoring the chase, Sciver took the attack to the Indian bowlers, hitting as many as eight boundaries during her entertaining knock, in which she pulled off some pull shots.</p>

<p>With just 135 required for a win, what England needed was a decent partnership after the early blows and Knight and Sciver provided that by sharing 65 runs for the third wicket.</p>

<p>Sciver's innings was cut short by Pooja Vastrakar. It was a soft dismissal and against the run of play as Sciver spooned a length ball to Goswami while looking to work the ball on the on-side.</p>

<p>Amy Jones (10) then stitched a 33-run stand for the next wicket with Knight before the former fell to a stunning backward running catch by India vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur at mid-on off Rajeshwari Gayakwad's bowling.</p>

<p>By then it was all over for India by then as England needed just 32 more runs.</p>

<p>The Indians picked up two more wickets in the 30th over before England completed the formality.</p>

An inconsistent India paid the price for a shoddy batting effort but England infused a new life into their title defence with a four-wicket win in a league-stage game of the ICC Women World Cup, here on Wednesday. Inconsistency returned to haunt Indian batters as they were bundled out for a meagre 134 by England, who chased down the target in 31.2 overs to record their first win in the tournament after a hat-trick of defeats. India got some runs on the board, thanks to previous game's centurion Smriti Mandhana, who top-scored for the side with a 35-run knock while wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh made 33. ALSO READ: R Ashwin scripts history, becomes first bowler to complete 100 wickets in World Test Championship With wickets falling intermittently, England bowled out India in 36.2 overs. England also made a stuttering start to their chase as they lost both their openers -- Danni Wyatt (1) and Tammy Beaumont (1) -- cheaply with the scoreboard reading four for two in the third over. Wyatt was first to depart in the second over, courtesy a sensational diving catch by Sneh Rana off medium-pacer Meghna Singh (3/26). Veteran Jhulan Goswami, the highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament, then trapped Beaumont in the second over after India went for the review. It was 250th wicket for the pacer in ODIs. England skipper Heather Knight (53 not out) and Nat Sciver (45 off 46) then steadied England innings, playing cautiously to reach 34 for 2 in 10 overs. While Knight played a captain's knock by anchoring the chase, Sciver took the attack to the Indian bowlers, hitting as many as eight boundaries during her entertaining knock, in which she pulled off some pull shots. With just 135 required for a win, what England needed was a decent partnership after the early blows and Knight and Sciver provided that by sharing 65 runs for the third wicket. Sciver's innings was cut short by Pooja Vastrakar. It was a soft dismissal and against the run of play as Sciver spooned a length ball to Goswami while looking to work the ball on the on-side. Amy Jones (10) then stitched a 33-run stand for the next wicket with Knight before the former fell to a stunning backward running catch by India vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur at mid-on off Rajeshwari Gayakwad's bowling. By then it was all over for India by then as England needed just 32 more runs. The Indians picked up two more wickets in the 30th over before England completed the formality. Meghna dismissed Sophia Dunkley (17) and Katherine Brunt (0) within a span of three balls in identical fashion -- caught behind by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh. Pandey, who returned with her best figures in ODIs, surpassing her previous best of 4/34, and Jhulan kept a tight leash and were rewarded for it. The duo was well supported by spinner Poonam Yadav (2-28). Only Natalie Sciver (85), who hammered 12 fours and a six, put up a lone fight to take the score past 150. "My role was to give early breakthroughs and to stick to my plans, and I was happy to bowl in the right areas. I wanted to consistently do that and hope the batsmen make an error too," Goswami said at the post-match presentation ceremony. "When you're bowling in a Powerplay, then you need to have a second plan. Can't just use one stock ball, so was just trying to enjoy the bowling. As long as you're playing, nerves will always be there. It will always help you to do better," she added. Brief Scores: England Woman 161 all out (Natalie Sciver 85, Lauren Winfield 28, Shikha Pandey 4-18, Jhulan Goswami 4-30) lost to India Women 162/3 (Smriti Mandhana 63, Mithali Raj 47 not out, Anya Shrubsole 2-23, Georgia Elwiss 1-28) by seven wickets.
