
At least 49 teachers in Bangladesh belonging to minority communities were forced to resignfollowing the ouster of Sheikh Hasina as prime minister on August 5, The Daily Star reported on Saturday (Aug 31) citing a minority organisation.
TheBangladesh Chhatra Oikya Parishad said that after the fall of the Hasina government, religious and ethnic minorities have facedattacks, looting, assault on women, vandalism of temples, arson attacks on homes and businesses, and killings.
The Bangladesh Chhatra Oikua Parishad is the student wing of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad.
The 49 teachers belonging to the minority community were forced to resign a few days back, The Daily Star report said. However, 19 of them were reinstated later.
The news comes as several Hindus in Bangladesh have been trying to flee to India as violent anti-government protests happened (in Bangladesh) seeking Hasina's ouster.
Last month, a report by the news agency Reuters said that aschoolteacher was killed and at least 45 people injured as homes, businesses, and temples of Hindus were targeted after Hasina fled Bangladesh.
On August 16, the caretaker government led by Muhammad Yunus assured Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modiof the protection, safety and security of Hindus and all minorities in Bangladesh.
Yunus said that reports of attacks onminorities hadbeen exaggerated, and his government was committed to ensuring human rights for every citizen of Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council estimates at least 52 of the country's 64 districts have been affected by incidents of sectarian violence since August 5.
