Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has been temporarily barred from campaigning by the Election Commission for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
Khan will not be able to participate in election campaigning starting 6am on May 1 for the next 48 hours.
This is not the first time when Khan is being barred from campaigning for this year's general polls. On April 15, the top poll body hadbarred Khan from campaigning for 72 hours for his comments against BJP candidate Jaya Prada.
In the past month, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati and Union minister and BJP leader Maneka Gandhi were among the leaders who were temporarily barred from campaigning for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The leaders faced the ban for violating the Model Code of Conduct by making objectionable statements in their speeches.
The Supreme Court, last month, came down heavily on the Election Commission for its inability to crack down on the violation of the poll conduct by political leaders.
"Tell us what actions you have taken against Mayawati and Yogi Adityanath," the bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had asked.
