If the reports are true, the upcoming film will mark the ninth collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan after films such as Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, De Dana Dan, Khatta Meetha and Bhooth Bangla.

The duo is also gearing up for the release of Haiwaan, which is scheduled to hit the theatres on September 11, 2026.

Akshay Kumar and filmmaker Priyadarshan are expected to reunite for their ninth film with a comic thriller. The upcoming film has reportedly locked its title and is expected to go on floors at the end of this year.

After the release of Bhooth Bangla, Akshay Kumar and filmmaker Priyadarshan are all set to reunite for another project. While the buzz around the film first began in 2025, the latest reports claim that the upcoming project has received its official title. Akshay Kumar-Priyadarshan's next film According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film is being produced by Ramesh Taurani's Tips Films and will reportedly be titled Wicked Sunny. "The film has been titled Wicked Sunny. The makers believe that the title does complete justice to the film’s zone as well as its lead character. Moreover, Wicked Sunny has strong recall value. It was the name of the theme played during Akshay Kumar’s scenes in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004). The theme remains extremely catchy and popular even 22 years after the film’s release," a source told Bollywood Hungama. Also Read: Haiwaan: Priyadarshan wraps up shooting of Saif Ali Khan, and Akshay Kumar starrer The source also revealed that the actor will be seen in a completely different comic role compared to his recent films. "Wicked Sunny will feature Akshay Kumar in a wacky comic avatar, distinctly different from the characters he has played in recent comic capers such as Bhooth Bangla and Welcome To The Jungle. Fans are going to have a blast watching Akshay go all out. Moreover, the title is only going to further enhance the hype surrounding the film," the source added. He listens to Bob Dylan and Miles Davis, reads Marcus Aurelius, and moves easily through the cultural inheritance of a Westernized elite. He is training to become a civil servant—an officer in the Indian Administrative Service, the most influential cadre of the state.

English, August is a portrait of a young man adrift and a wry, darkly comic exploration of post-colonial identity suspended between worlds—intimate, irreverent, and quietly unsettling.

The movie stars: Rahul Bose, Salim Shah, Yogendra Tikku, Shivaji Satham, Veerendra Saxena, Tanvi Azmi, Mita Vasisht, S. Gopalakrishnan, Gyan Shivpuri, Paromita Vohra, Vivek Shah.

Based on Upamanyu Chatterjee’s bestselling 1988 novel, English, August is an irreverent, darkly comic exploration of post-colonial identity. It follows a young man from an elite, Westernized background cast adrift in the alien, bureaucratic landscape of small-town India.

The Venice International Film Festival has officially announced that the newly restored 4K version of Dev Benegal’s landmark, award-winning film English, August (1994) will celebrate its World Premiere in the prestigious Venice Classics Competition at the upcoming 83rd edition of the festival. This selection marks the third consecutive year that Film Heritage Foundation (FHF), the not-for-profit organisation responsible for the restoration, has been invited to showcase a world premiere of its cinematic restorations on the global stage in Venice, following Girish Kasaravalli’s Ghatashraddha in 2024 and Bimal Roy’s Do Bigha Zamin in 2025. They, once again, make you privy to the world of fashion, media and the complexities that come along. Of course, the first part was fresh and one of a kind and hence iconic. Expectations have doubled up since then, and perhaps that’s why the sequel isn’t as fun as one would think it to be. Yet, it manages to strike a chord, for it adapts to present times and gives a fresh perspective into the world of publishing."
