Hours after Congress party leader Supriya Shrinate clarified an objectionable post made concerning BJP candidate and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, the Congress party has now dug up an old interview of Ranaut calling actress Urmila Matondkar a 'soft porn star'.
Urmila Matondkar made her political debut as a Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North constituency. After losing in the elections she resigned from the party and joined the Shiv Sena in 2020.
Kangana has been recently inducted into BJP and will be contesting elections in the upcoming Lok Sabha 2024 polls from Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh.
Sharing an earlier video of Ranaut talking about Urmila Matondkar, Srinivas BV, president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) wrote on X, "What was posted from Supriya Ji's account was absolutely derogatory. She has not only deleted it but also clarified and Condemned it in the Strongest Terms." (sic).
"What about you? Calling Urmila Matondkar a 'soft porn star' on live TV? Have you condemned it?," he tweeted.
In the video, Ranaut can be heard saying, "Urmila Matondkar, she is a soft porn star. I know it's very blatant, but I want to ask you... she is not known for her acting for sure, what is she known for, for doing soft porn, right?"
Kangana Ranaut, BJP slam Congress’ Supriya over objectionable post: ‘Every woman deserves dignity’
"If she can get a ticket (for a political party), why won't I get a ticket?," Ranaut said in the video.
Kangana Ranaut -Urmila Matondkar controversy
Kangana's 'soft porn star' remark against Urmila Matondkar came after the latter slammed Kangana for disrespecting veteran actor Jaya Bachchan. Bachchan in a rousing speech in the Parliament in 2022 objected to Kangana's remark of calling the entire film industry 'tarnished'.
In an interview, Urmila said, "When Kangana was not even born, Jaya ji was in the film industry. We’re talking about a lady here (Jaya Bachchan) who has herself been an icon. Which part of Indian culture tells you to lash out at people like this?"
Supriya Shrinate- Kangana Ranaut controversy
On Monday, BJP called out Shrinate for sharing an objectionable post on Kangana Ranaut. Shrinate later deleted the post and said that it was posted by someone who had access to her Instagram page.
Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut hit back at the Congress leader, saying that people should "refrain from using sex workers' challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur".
