The Election Commission of India on Wednesday (March 27), issued show cause notices to BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Supriya Shrinate for their remarks directed at West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and BJP's Lok Sabha candidate Kangana Ranaut, respectively.

The Election Commission deemed Ghosh's comments against CM Mamata Banerjee and Shrinate's remarks against Kangana Ranaut as 'undignified and in bad taste'. They have been instructed to respond to the commission by Friday, (March 29)&nbsp;5 pm.

In both notices, the EC stated that the comments made by the leaders are prima facie violative of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) currently in force ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

According to clause (2) of Part I 'General Conduct' of the Model Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates, criticism of other political parties should be limited to their policies, programs, record, and work.

Parties and candidates are urged to refrain from criticising aspects of private life not connected with the public activities of other party leaders or workers. Criticism based on unverified allegations or distortion of facts should also be avoided.

Supriya Shrinate vs Kangana Ranaut:

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate stirred controversy when an objectionable post appeared on her Instagram handle, demeaning Kangana Ranaut, BJP's candidate from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi constituency.

The post, now deleted, queried the current market rate alongside a picture of Ranaut.

Shrinate later clarified that 'many people' have access to her Facebook and Instagram accounts, disassociating herself from the 'extremely inappropriate' post.

Hours after Congress party leader Supriya Shrinate clarified an objectionable post made concerning BJP candidate and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, the Congress party has now dug up an old interview of Ranaut calling actress Urmila Matondkar a 'soft porn star'.&nbsp; 
 
Urmila Matondkar made her political debut as a Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North constituency. After losing in the elections she resigned from the party and joined the Shiv Sena in 2020.

Kangana has been recently inducted into BJP and will be contesting elections in the upcoming Lok Sabha 2024 polls from Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh.&nbsp; 
 
Sharing an earlier video of Ranaut talking about Urmila Matondkar, Srinivas BV, president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) wrote on X, "What was posted from Supriya Ji's account was absolutely derogatory. She has not only deleted it but also clarified and Condemned it in the Strongest Terms." (sic).

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (Mar 25) slammed Congress national spokesperson Supriya Shrinate over a now-deleted Instagram post that featured a picture of actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut accompanied by an objectionable caption, demanding Shrinate's immediate removal from the party.

Kangana Ranaut, who was handed over BJP's ticket from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, took to her social media account and hit out at Shrinate stating that every woman in the world "deserves her dignity".

<h2>'Kharge should take stern action against Shrinate,' says Malviya</h2>

BJP leaders Shehzad Poonawalla and Amit Malviya also lashed out at Shrinate over the post.

Malviya, the in-charge of BJP's national information and technology department, said that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge should take strict action against Shrinate.

"Congress's Supriya Shrinate makes an obnoxious comment on Kangana Ranaut in an Insta post. It is so disgusting that one can't help, but ask - how does Congress collect so much filth in one place? If Kharge has any say in the party, he must sack her immediately or else resign," Malviya, who is BJP IT cell head, posted on X.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (Mar 25) slammed Congress national spokesperson Supriya Shrinate over a now-deleted Instagram post that featured a picture of actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut accompanied by an objectionable caption, demanding Shrinate's immediate removal from the party. Kangana Ranaut, who was handed over BJP's ticket from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, took to her social media account and hit out at Shrinate stating that every woman in the world "deserves her dignity".
