Drones target Lviv in Ukraine, explosions echo

Drones targeted the western Ukrainian city of Lviv in the early hours of Tuesday (September 19), resulting in a series of explosions and a subsequent warehouse fire.

This incident marks an alarming escalation in security concerns for Lviv, which, until recently, was considered one of Ukraine's safer cities. In August, the city witnessed another incident when three individuals lost their lives due to air strikes.

Reports indicate that multiple waves of drones appeared in the skies over Lviv around 01:30 GMT, leaving residents alarmed and on edge. An AFP journalist on the ground reported hearing numerous explosions and witnessing the movement of heavy vehicles through the streets, even during the city's nightly curfew.

The Ukrainian Air Force swiftly responded to the drone assault, confirming that drones were indeed attacking the city. Air defence systems were activated to counter the threat, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Warehouse fire and injuries

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi provided updates via Telegram, revealing that the drone attack resulted in an industrial warehouse in one of Lviv's districts catching fire. At least one person was injured in the attack.

Mayor Sadovyi expressed his anger, stating, "All Russians should burn in hell," reflecting the tensions surrounding the conflict.

Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of the Lviv region's military administration, reported on rescue efforts, stating that two people, a man, and a woman, were rescued from the rubble in Lviv, reported AFP.

The woman appeared to have escaped without injuries, while the man's condition was described as serious. Thankfully, as the threat subsided, Kozytskyi reassured the public, expressing gratitude to the air defence forces for their response.
