Another car attack in Cambrils after Barcelona, five attackers killed

Six civilians and one police officer were injured when a car drove into people in the Spanish seaside resort of Cambrils early Fridayjust hours after the attack in Barcelona even asthe police launched a manhunt to nab the driver of a van which mowed 13 peopleon Thursday evening at Las Ramblas.

Police shot five attackers dead, saying they were "working on the hypothesis that the terrorists shot dead in Cambrils could be linked to what happened in Barcelona."

The explosive belts worn by attackers killed by police in the Catalan resort town of Cambrils were fake, Spanish region's head Carles Puigdemont told local radio station RAC1, Reuters reported.

Catalan police said the situation in Cambrils, south Barcelona, was under control but urged caution as authorities were still on high alert.

There are at least hundred people still injured with the death toll likely to rise further in the Barcelona attack, officials said.

Witnesses said a white van rammed pedestrians and cyclists at high speed leaving dead bodies in its wake as the Spanish city of Barcelona was shocked by the terroristattack.

Later Islamic State's Amaq news agency said: "The perpetrators of the Barcelona attack are soldiers of the Islamic State and carried out the operation in response to calls for targeting coalition states" - a reference to a US-led coalition against the Sunni militant group.

The Islamic State claim, however, could not immediately be verified.

Meanwhile, India's foreign minister Sushma Swaraj said her ministry was in touch with Spanish authorities and there were no Indian casualties reported in the Barcelona attack.
