<p>After Afghanistan's famous win, former England captain Michael Atherton slammed Jos Buttler &amp; Co. and feels the team has many 'undercooked' players. "England haven't bowled well enough and teams have got off to fliers against them. There are reasons. Many of the players are undercooked in terms of cricketing time, time in ODIs. But they have not hit the ground running and have made things very difficult for themselves now," Atherton said on Sky Sports.</p>

CWC '23: 'Many players are undercooked' - Former cricketer slams England after big defeat vs Afghanistan

<p>Rohit Sharma-led Team India have been in top form in the home ODI World Cup. After three games, India have equal number of wins and will lock horns with Bangladesh on Thursday (Oct 19) in Pune. On Saturday (Oct 14), India met Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad and demolished their arch-rivals by seven wickets, and 117 balls to spare.</p>

<p>With this win, India are atop in the points table and marching ahead with high chances of entering the semi-finals in the top-two. Rashid Latif, former Pakistan captain, lauded India's ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav after the Men in Blue's easy win over his national side and predicted the 29-year-old Kuldeep to end as the highest wicket-taker of the ongoing edition.</p>

<p>Latif feels Babar Azam-led Pakistani batters weren't aggressive against Kuldeep and only tried to play out his overs in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;Writing in his column for The Indian Express, he said, "Against Kuldeep, we looked timid, we were trying to just play out his ten overs. Not a single Pakistan batsman was able to pick Kuldeep (Yadav), and I think if he is not rested in a few matches, Kuldeep will end up being the leading wicket-taker of the tournament."</p>

<p>At the moment, Kuldeep has five wickets (third-most by an Indian) and occupies the sixth spot in the leading wicket-taker list. "I was surprised that India didn’t pick Ashwin. I feel he should play all the matches for India. If Ashwin had played I don’t think we could have even got 190 on the board,” Latif added.</p>

<p>India will look to maintain their winning run when they lock horns with the Bangla Tigers on Thursday.&nbsp;</p>

Kuldeep Yadav will end as ODI World Cup 2023's highest wicket-taker, predicts former Pakistan captain

<p>Afghanistan bowler Rashid Khan and Player of the Match Mujeeb Ur Rahman dedicated their historic ODI World Cup 2023 win against England to people affected by earthquake back home.</p>

<p>"Cricket is something that brings joy to the people back home. Winning the game against England is big for us. Recently, we had an earthquake back home. Over 3,000 people lost their lives, many houses were destroyed, so this win will put a little bit of smile on their faces and maybe, they can little bit forget those days," said Rashid to the broadcasters after the match.</p>

<p>"This is a big win for us. This kind of performance gives us the belief that we can beat any side on any day. It will give us the energy for the rest of the World Cup," he added while talking about the magnanimity of the win.</p>

<p>"I want to dedicate this award to the people back home, who have been affected by the earthquake. This is something we could do as a team and I could do myself as a player," he said.</p>

<p>Talking about the win, Rahman said: "It is a very proud moment to be here at the World Cup and beating the champions. Great achievement for the whole team and this is the kind of opportunity we have been working hard for. It was a wonderful performance&nbsp;by the bowlers and the batters."</p>

<p>The win was only second for Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup history after beating Scotland by one wicket in the 2015 edition.</p>

You got to let these defeats hurt, there’s no point in getting over things too quickly, we need to reflect. There’s a lot of character in this group, we need to show a lot of resilience and come back stronger. We need to have guys being able to perform under pressure and that’s what all of us will be working hard towards."</p>

'Just one in 8 attempts': Sehwag gives EPIC reply to Vaughan's 'England in World Cup semis' remark

<p>India's Hardik Pandya provided the home team much needed breakthrough with the wicket of Imam-ul-Haq when Pakistan was cruising along in the ODI World Cup 2023 match in Ahmedabad on October 14. Pandya brought balance to India's side with the wicket of Imam who was batting beautifully on 36 off 38.</p>

<p>It was the third ball of the 13th over and Pandya had been hit for a four on the previous ball, but bowled the next one a touch fuller. It was well outside off and Imam attempted to drive the ball. All the batter could manage was get an outside edge which wicketkeeper KL Rahul pouched easily.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the wicket, Pandya waved bye at Imam and said a few words. Have a look at the video here:</p>

<p>Speaking after that match, England skipper Jos Buttler admitted that Afghanistan outplayed them and were superior on the day.</p>

<p>"Disappointing to win the toss and concede that many, me missing that first ball down the leg side set the tone. Credit to Afghanistan, they outplayed us today. It came down to execution, we weren’t quite at the level we’d like to be with both bat and ball," said Buttler.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Talking about how England will be reflecting on the loss and bounce back from the setback, Buttler said: "You got to let these defeats hurt, there’s no point in getting over things too quickly, we need to reflect. There’s a lot of character in this group, we need to show a lot of resilience and come back stronger. We need to have guys being able to perform under pressure and that’s what all of us will be working hard towards."</p>

<p>Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi, on the other hand, was ecstatic with the win and rightfully so. He said: "I am quite happy and all my teammates are happy. This was the best win. The confidence will be there for the next game and the whole country will be happy and proud with this win."</p>

<p>Batting first, Afghanistan scored 284 with the help of Rahmanullah Gurbaz's (57-ball 80) onslaught at the top and Ikram Akhil's gutsy 58 in the late-middle overs. England had a poor start to the chase as no batter could get going except Harry Brook who scored 66 off 61 balls.</p>

<p>Player of the Match Mujeeb ur Rahman (3/51), Rashid Khan (3/37) and Mohammad Nabi (2/16) played a huge role in strangulating the English chase.</p>

<p>And yet it was only because of the illness of another fellow former&nbsp;England&nbsp;batsman in Graham Thorpe that he found himself in charge of Afghanistan at all, taking over in July last year for a Twenty20 tour of Ireland ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia.</p>

<p>The 42-year-old Trott, who played over 200 international matches, worked as a batting coach for the&nbsp;England&nbsp;team on their tour of India in 2021.</p>

<p>For all their undoubted talent in the T20 format, where spinner Rashid Khan is a globe-trotting star of the franchise circuit, Afghanistan have struggled in the 50-over game.</p>

<p>Convincing defeats by Bangladesh and India in their opening two games of this World Cup mean Afghanistan have now lost 14 successive matches in the tournament -- a run stretching back to their lone win, against Scotland, in 2015.</p>

<p>A lack of runs, for all Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai scored fifties in an eight-wicket reverse against India last time out, has been at the heart of Afghanistan's ODI struggles.</p>

<p>In Trott they have a coach who as a batsman was renowned for his concentration and an attention to detail exemplified by his deliberate marking of guard.</p>

<p>Born in Cape Town to a British father and South African mother, Trott played for South Africa youth sides from Under-15 to Under-19 level.</p>

<p>But he then took advantage of his British passport and his relationship with Bob Woolmer, who coached both South Africa and Warwickshire, to arrange a trial with the English county.</p>

<p>Having established himself at the Midlands club, Trott enjoyed a spectacular entry into Test cricket with a hundred on debut in a 2009 Ashes-deciding win against Australia at The Oval.</p>

<p>It was the start of a fine&nbsp;England&nbsp;career that yielded nearly 4,000 runs, including nine hundreds, in 52 Tests at an average of 44.08.</p>

<h2>'Get pigeon-holed'</h2>

<p>Yet having been dubbed a "rock" by Andy Flower, the then&nbsp;England&nbsp;coach, Trott was forced to make an abrupt exit from the 2013/14 Ashes tour of Australia with a stress-related illness having struggled against the short ball.</p>

<p>Trott eventually battled back to regain his&nbsp;England&nbsp;place for a 2015 series in the West Indies.</p>

<p>But asked to open the batting, he reached double-figures only once in six innings and suffered three ducks, with Trott announcing his international retirement at the end of the tour before bowing out with Warwickshire in 2018.</p>

<p>His own, highly-publicised, difficulties made some wonder how Trott would cope with the increased demands of being in charge of a national side.</p>

<p>But Trott, still to set foot in Afghanistan more than 14 months since his appointment -- the team don't play matches on home soil on security grounds, with the country having reverted to Taliban control in 2021 -- told the Guardian last week: "I enjoy the pressure of making decisions.</p>

<p>"I think sometimes if you're just a specialist coach, a batting coach or a bowling coach, you sort of get pigeon-holed a little bit. I think it's nice to oversee things."</p>

<p>That position, however, comes with added responsibility, as Trott discovered during a heart-breaking finish to Afghanistan's Asia Cup campaign last month.</p>

<p>Needing to overhaul a target of 292 in 37.1 overs to oust Sri Lanka on net run-rate, Afghanistan fell agonisingly short as Mujeeb Ur Rahman holed out with three needed from the first ball of the 38th over.</p>

<p>They could still have qualified by reaching 295 within 37.4 overs but appeared unaware of that possibility as last man Fazalhaq Farooqi blocked two deliveries before being dismissed attempting another defensive shot with six needed to go through.</p>

<p>"I'm gutted about it," recalled Trott. "As a head coach the responsibility stays with you.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"You're in charge, you're the guy where the buck stops. So that's hard to take."</p>

<p>The under-fire Australia Cricket Team received a boost with injured Travis Head declared fit to join the side in India for the World Cup 2023. Head, who suffered a fracture in his left hand during the away South Africa series, was out of action since but got picked in the final 15 to remain available from mid-way into the tournament. As per the latest reports, Head has resumed training in nets and will fly to India later this week.</p>

<p>Head had the cast removed last week and is facing throwdowns in the nets. Speaking to the media in Australia, Head said he is healing well but would still require a final clearance before joining the 14-man Australian CWC squad in India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, if everything goes according to the plan, Head would reach India in time for Australia’s clash against the Netherlands on October 25, although his selection would depend on his fitness and match practice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It's coming along well, and probably better than we hoped," Head told cricket.com.au.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"When we decided not to go with surgery, which would have meant a ten-week recovery, we were told it would be a minimum of six weeks with the splint before we could look at playing again."</p>

<p>"But we'll just see how it progresses over the next few days, and I'm excited by the prospect of joining the boys over there later in the week,” Head added.</p>

<h2>Could Head be replaced at the last minute?</h2>

<p>Contrary to all the talk about relating to Travis Head, the possibility of him getting replaced at the last minute if Australia loses to Sri Lanka in their next match is higher.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking on crossing the hurdles together as a team, Head said, "There's still a few hurdles we need to clear, and everything needs to fall into place from my end and the team's point of view over there before the final decision is made.”</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Australia will face Sri Lanka in Lucknow on Monday (Oct 16).</p>

The innings saw Rohit hitting six fours and six sixes and three off them came against Haris Rauf - one of the fastest bowlers in the tournament.</p>

<p>Out of the three sixes Rohit hit to Rauf, two came in one over — one over mid-on on a length ball and second a slice on the off side on a full ball in the ninth over of the innings. Rohit completed his fifty off just 36 balls and was asked by on-field umpire Murray Erasmus that how does he hit such big sixes.</p>

<p>Rohit, being witty, showed the umpires his muscles and the moment was captured during the live broadcast as well. After the game, Sharma's deputy Hardik Pandya asked Rohit about the gesture to which the skipper replied: "The umpire asked me about how am I able to hit such big sixes. Is there anything in your bat? So, I told him all the power is in muscles," laughed Rohit.</p>

<p>"I just wanted to play my shots. I have been trying to play like this since last couple of years and the wicket was good so I just wanted to play the shots. I know I missed out on a hundred," added Rohit.</p>

<p>During his knock, Rohit hit six sixes, becoming only the third batter in ODI history to cross the 300-six mark. The Indian skipper now has 303 sixes to his name in 246 innings of 254 ODIs he has played, with only West Indies' Chris Gayle (331) and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi (351) ahead of him.&nbsp;<br />

<p>The former speedster said he believed that India was on course to repeat the heroics of the 2011 World Cup when they went on to win the marquee tournament.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I am beginning to believe India is about to repeat that history of 2011 World Cup. If they don't mess up in the semi-finals, India is really there to win this World Cup. So well done India. You have done wonderfully well. You destroyed us, demoralised us and decimated us," said Akhtar.</p>

<p>India&nbsp;won the toss in the high-voltage encounter and decided to field first. The decision, however, seemed to backfire initially as the pitch looked a belter for batting. Pakistani batters got off to a decent start as well and the contest was balanced up until the 30th over.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, from thereon, the pair of Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah mounted their attack which left the Pakistani batters clueless as to what hit them. After the middle and lower-middle order capitulated, Pakistan bowed out by putting only 199 on board.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The target was never going to be enough against the stacked Indian batting lineup and Rohit Sharma came out with an ultra-positive mindset to bat Pakistan out of the contest in the first 10 overs. The Indian captain did just that as the two-time World Cup champions, easily coasted to victory.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After Saturday's victory, India have climbed atop the points table and look all set to lock in a spot in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Pakistan have a difficult assignment next, as they take on Australia at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. &nbsp;</p>

<p>India continued their dominance over Pakistan in the ODI World Cups with a seven-wicket win over arch-rivals on October 14 in Ahmedabad. The highly-anticipated match turned out to be a bit anti-climatic after Pakistan suffered a collapse to get all out on 191&nbsp;despite being 155/2 at one point.</p>

<p>Former Pakistan player and 1992 World Cup winner Ramiz Raja wasn't too happy with Babar Azam's team and blasted them for not being able to compete. Ramiz made the comments on The ICC Review podcast after Pakistan's eighth successive loss against India in the ODI World Cup history.</p>

<p>Pakistan's no. 4 batter Muhammad Rizwan had a lucky reprieve in the big-ticket encounter against India after the Decision Review System (DRS) came to his rescue. The reversal, however, ignited memories of Australia's Steve Smith being given out in one of the other World Cup matches when the ball seemingly looked like missing the stumps.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident transpired in the 14th over when&nbsp;Ravindra Jadeja came to bowl after Hardik Pandya sent Imam ul Haq back to the pavilion in the previous over. Relatively fresh at the crease, Mohammad Rizwan was bamboozled on the first ball as Jadeja extracted vicious turn off the Ahmedabad pitch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the first ball turned away from Rizwan, Jadeja darted the next one straight on middle and leg. The Pakistani batter played down the wrong line and got trapped on the pads as the umpire raised the finger.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Adjudged out, Rizwan straightaway opted to take DRS. To the naked eye, it looked like the ball was kissing the top of leg, especially if one had seen the dismissal of Smith. However, DRS returned two reds and one green, meaning the wickets were missing, which left the Indian fields puzzled, especially Jadeja.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Soon after the decision, netizens shared their frustration with the inconsistencies surrounding the DRS.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Rizwan’s LBW looked much closer than Steve Smith’s. But according to technology that was out and this isn’t. Well, we have to believe technology," said one user.&nbsp;</p>
