<h2><strong>What happened with Gill?</strong></h2>

<p>On the final ball of the fifth over, a straight drive from Rohit Sharma went towards bowler Trent Boult and appeared to have struck his hand before hitting the stump. With the ball hitting the stumps Gill appeared to have his bat outside the crease as New Zealand were convinced he was run out. The appeals saw a standing umpire call for a review as New Zealand looked to have drawn first blood.</p>

<p>However, much to the relief of Gill and Indian fans, the ball appeared to have taken no deflection of the hand. Later it was also confirmed from the replays that Gill was back in his crease in time to avoid any further controversy. India’s score at that time was 32/0 in five overs.</p>

<p>At the time of writing, India did lose Rohit Sharma for 46 off 40 with the scoreboard reading 75/1 after 12 overs.</p>

<p>Mohammed Shami, playing in his first match in the ODI World Cup proved a point as he was on the show with India restricting New Zealand to 273 in their 50 overs. Shami grabbed his opportunity with both hands and scalped Will Young (17) on the first ball of his spell. He also played an important role in breaking the Rachin Ravindra (75) and Daryl Mitchell (130) partnership getting the former out when they had stitched 159 runs for the third wicket.</p>

<p>Shami would return to haunt the Kiwis when he scalped Mitchell Santner (1) and Matt Henry (0) on back-to-back balls. He was on a hat-trick in the 48th over but could not get over the line to join the elite company. He would later dismiss the impressive Mitchell with Virat Kohli catching him in the deep and completing the five-for. It is the third time he has taken a five-for in ODI cricket and continues to impress in his third World Cup stint.</p>

<p>India coach Rahul Dravid has expressed disagreement over the International Cricket Council (ICC) dishing out 'average' pitch rating to Ahmedabad and Chennai pitches. Notably, these are the only two pitches where India bundled out rivals Pakistan and Australia for less than 200. India won those two games and the&nbsp;other two as well, comfortably.</p>

<p>"If you want to only see 350-run matches and rate only those pitches as good, then I disagree with that," Dravid said before India's match against the Kiwis in Dharamsala. <p>Chasing 263 runs, the Lions did not have the best start as they lost Kusal Perera (5) and skipper Kusal Mendis (11) in the first powerplay. However, a fine knock from Pathum Nissanka (54) saw them in the driving seat throughout the chase as he led from the front. His innings consisted of nine fours and scored with a strike rate of more than 100.</p>

<p>"So obviously great to see you know that they're there for another week and good luck to them next week's going to be a great contest and yeah Kane's obviously still nursing his thumb injury. It's a day-by-day process with him as well. Fingers crossed he'll be available for later on in the tournament. And in regards to Tim, he's available for selection," Latham added.</p>

<p>Southee was injured in the England tour and was feared to miss the entire World Cup however he made it to the main tournament despite missing the early stage. He has been an important part of the national side along with Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson. On the flip side, Williamson’s injury has also been a key concern for the management. ODI World Cup 2023: Tim Southee likely to play in Dharamsala - NZ stand-in skipper Tom Latham

<p>Australia opener David Warner smashed 163 in record opening stand with Mitchell Marsh (121) in the ODI World Cup as the five-time winners beat Pakistan by 63 runs on October 20 in Bengaluru. Warner was adjudged Player of the Match for his third 150+ score in the ODI World Cups as Australia shot to fourth place on the points table with two wins and two losses in four games.</p>

<p>Speaking on his innings after the game, Warner credited his ability to change gears easily and try to put the foot down after setting a platform.</p>

<p>"Yeah, look, for me, I think what I've established early on in my career is that 50 overs is a long time,” the southpaw said after the match. “And having played Test cricket, you actually can take that out there and change your gears quite easily.”</p>

<p>“I look to try and get to 35 overs and then from there, try and put my foot down if I'm still in. So, yeah, it's probably in the back of your mind, you've got a lot more time," he added.</p>

<p>The attacking batter also credited Indian Premier League (IPL) for his success in the ODI cricket. Warner has been a stalwart in the IPL with his most successful stint coming with Sunrises Hyderabad.</p>

<p>“I think that's where in T20 cricket, I've learned a little bit as well to change my gears, especially in IPL. I learned a lot when I was playing for Sunrisers that you're able to have a lot more time than you think. And I think playing on these surfaces specifically, you know, if you give yourself time at the back end, you can actually score big. And that's what I felt today," he said.</p>

<p>The left-hand batter, however, agreed that the Australian team missed out posting in excess 400 after the 259-run opening stand between him and Marsh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We missed a little bit with the bat. We set our platform up very, very well, and we didn't execute as well as we like as a batting unit to post what I thought – 400 was probably on the cards from where we were.”</p>

<p>“I think sometimes you just match up well against certain teams,” he said. “They’re going to bowl you good balls, and sometimes you're going to put away those good balls. But I think you just keep backing yourself," said Warner.</p>

<p>Australia next play Netherlands on October 25 in their fifth game of the tournament.</p>

<p>India spinner Kuldeep Yadav has hailed pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah for taking wickets upfront in ODI World Cup 2023 and giving the spinners leeway in the middle overs. India have won all the four games it has played so far&nbsp;and the bowlers have managed to take 36 wickets in total.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking with the ICC after India's win against Bangladesh, Kuldeep said: "It's very important to start off very well with the first Powerplay. Jasprit and Siraj have done really well.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Not just giving us wickets, but probably just containing the runs as well (for) when me and Jaddu bhai (Ravindra Jadeja) come to bowl.”</p>

World Cup 2023: Australia thwart Pakistan challenge, win by 62 runs after daddy hundreds from Warner, Marsh

<p>India romped past Bangladesh in match 17 of the CWC 2023 edition on Thursday (Oct 19) at the MCA Stadium in Pune. While everything continued to click for Team India as they beat the Bangla Tigers by seven wickets, chasing 257, all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya got injured during the proceedings. Being asked to bowl first, India did not start well with Bangladesh openers Tanzid Hasan (51) and Litton Das (66) adding over 50 runs for the first wicket. Thus, Rohit brought in Hardik in the ninth over but the 30-year-old sustained an ankle injury during the third ball.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hardik didn't bowl any further and was available to bat but India did not require his services courtesy of Virat Kohli's 103 not out and Shubman Gill's 53. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement on Friday (Oct 20) ruling him out of India's upcoming clash versus New Zealand on Sunday (Oct 22) in Dharamsala. CWC '23: When Hardik Pandya is not playing, there is a balance issue for India, reckons former Aussie opener

India batter Shubman Gill, who sat out first two games with sickness, says the team had talked about chasing well ahead of the quadrennial tournament and the team's happy with the results while chasing so far.</p>

<p>“Definitely, I think this is one of the things which was talked about, especially leading up to the World Cup, that we were not chasing that well, those big totals,” Gill said as reported by the ICC&nbsp;after India's win over Bangladesh on October 19 in Pune.</p>

<p>“I think having won all the four matches while chasing, I think it's a great way to have that momentum with us in those big games that we'll have moving forward.</p>

<p>Before the World Cup started, there was a lot of talk of dew playing a role later in the evening but the conditions have stayed stable to the larger extent so far and Gill reiterated the same about Pune.</p>

<p>“I don't think the pitch changed much, honestly, it was a good batting wicket.”</p>

<p>“The approach while chasing, Rohit has been batting exceptionally well and he's been all guns blazing, especially while chasing. And I think that's giving us the right momentum.</p>

<p>“Then it's easier for the batsmen who are coming in when the run rate is around four or five in chasing.”</p>

<p>Gill was also all praise for senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli - India's top two run getters in the ongoing ODI World Cup and said that he tries to learn from them.</p>

<p>“To see them how they go about their business in World Cup and in big games is what I always try to learn from them.</p>

<p>“I think there's a fine line between sometimes being too aggressive or going in the shell, especially playing big games.</p>

<p>“But I think the way they play, the way their mindset is playing those big games in the World Cup is what I try to learn from them,” added the opening batter.</p>

<p>India next play against New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamsala.</p>

<p>India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, in a setback to the team, will be missing the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 match against New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamsala. Pandya got injured during India's win over Bangladesh on October 19 in Pune. He was taken for a scan after twisting his ankle and returned to the ground afterwards.</p>

<p>The BCCI, in a press release, confirmed&nbsp;that Pandya will not be travelling with the team to Dharamsala to play against New Zealand but instead will join the team in Lucknow for the match against England.</p>

<p>"The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India play England," read the BCCI release.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p>As per a report in the Indian Express, a BCCI official was also quoted as saying that the all-rounder will be missing India's next game against New Zealand.</p>

<p>“He will be heading to Bengaluru where he has been asked to report to the NCA. The medical team assessed his ankle scan report and it looks he will be fine by taking an injection. The BCCI consulted a specialist doctor in England and they too were of the similar opinion. He will be missing the next game,” a BCCI official said as per the report.</p>

<p>India skipper Rohit Sharma now has the most runs while chasing in the ODI World Cups, going past Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan during his 48-run inning&nbsp;on October 19. Rohit's innings also helped India lay a solid platform as they chased 261 for their fourth win on the trot in the 2023 ODI World Cup.</p>

<p>Rohit now has 771 runs in 13 innings in the quadrennial tournament, 28 runs more than Shakib's 743 runs in 19 innings. Rohit has scored four hundreds out of his seven ODI World Cup tons while chasing, including three fifties and a 48 in the last game.</p>

<p>Earlier, Rohit surpassed Sachin to record the most hundreds in ODI World Cup history with a century against Afghanistan in India's second match. Sharma's seven tons in the tournament's history are one more than Sachin Tendulkar's tally of six.</p>

<p>Rohit also has the most runs in the ongoing ODI World Cup - 265 in four matches - as India sit on top of the points table with eight points after four back-to-back wins. Kohli is right behind Rohit with 259 runs in 4 innings with one hundred and two fifties.</p>

But the narrative is set differently now days with some ppl trying to spread unnecessary negativity for their own benefit. So i spoke. Love you brother."</p>

<p>Irfan shared the incident following PCB's formal complaint, raising issue on the treatment given to Pakistani cricketers during the India clash. "The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged another formal protest with the ICC over delays in visas for Pakistani journalists and the absence of a visa policy for Pakistan fans for the ongoing World Cup 2023. <p>On the first ball of the 24th over, an away going delivery from Mohammed Siraj saw Hasan flick the ball towards the fine leg. However, the ball did not travel much and went fine in the direction of the wicketkeeper Rahul. The stumper had pulled off a stunner with a low left-hand catch, as he dived to his left. He caught the ball single-handedly to produce a catch of the tournament moment. Hasan would be dismissed for 3 off 13 while Siraj enjoyed his first wicket of the day.</p>

This reminded me of the 2003 World Cup when Ashish Nehra got injured while bowling against Namibia.</p>

<p>Pandya was later taken for scans and did not participate in the rest of the Bangladesh batting innings. At the time of writing Bangladesh were 170/4 in 36 overs.
