Aaron Rodgers, the newest quarterback in New York Jets, is having a blast with his new franchise and says 'It's been a dream.' Notably, it has just been a week since Rodgers' long-awaited transfer to the Jets from the Green Bay Packers - the team with which the QB spent 18 years - took place.

Rodgers, appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, said, "I am having an absolute blast. It's been so fun," Rodgers said. "It's been great. Everything is new. It's like the first day of school every single day. There are new people to meet and got to figure out your routine," said Rodgers.

"I'm just pinching myself a lot of days. I can't believe it's real sometimes. So it's been a dream for sure," added the QB.

Rodgers also said that he's loving meeting his new teammates and totally enjoyed the playoff games of the Knicks and Rangers, both.

"I think everybody's excited to have me here. It's been fun to get to know the guys and start working on my cadence and just kind of ease into it all," he said

Speaking on the sports culture of the Big Apple, Rodgers admitted that he'll be in good graces as long as he's winning. "New York is a great sports city. They expect winning as well, so as long as you're winning, you're gonna be in good graces, which we expect to," said the Jets QB.

Among the teammates who have impressed Rodgers in his time at the Jets so far is Garrett Wilson.

"He's a talented guy. I threw him a pass today and just kind of turned and was like, 'Wow.' His ability to kind of get in out of his brakes, there's another No. 17 I played with for a long time who does it better than anybody," Rodgers said. "But the explosiveness in and out of the breaks to No. 17 here is pretty similar." Notably, Wilson is the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

NFL: 2-year-old daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Shaquil Barrett dies after drowning in family pool

Aaron Rodgers, one of the finest quarterbacks to ever play in the National Football League (NFL), finally got traded to the New York Jets from Green Bay Packers. The Packers confirmed the news saying a deal has been reached with the Jets for the trade. Although, the deal would have to be signed by Tuesday.

"I have so much respect for Aaron and the person he is. He has done so much for this organization," said Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst.

"I know this. He will always be a Packer. He'll be one of the best who has ever done it around here. He'll be missed. Players like that don't come around very often. But we are very excited about where we are going. This has all got to get finalized to get done. But we have a great appreciation for him," Gutekunst added.

As per the deal, the Packers are going to send Rodgers along with their 15th overall first-round pick and a fifth round pick in 2023 NFL Draft, scheduled to be held from April 27-29. In return, the Packers will get 13th overall first-round pick, a second and sixth-round pick in 2023 NFL Draft and a 2024 second-round pick as well.

The 2024 second-round pick could become a first-round pick if Rodgers played 65% of his snaps this year for the Jets.

Rodgers, who was picked by the Packers as 24th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, has not played for any other NFL team in his career apart from them. During his stint with the Packers, Rodgers went on to become the Most Valuable Player (MVP) four times. With him at the helm, the Packers made to the playoffs 11 times in his 15-year career as a starter in Green Bay.

Rodgers also was named the Super Bowl MVP in 2011 after leading Green Bay to a 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Also Read: NBA Playoffs 2023: Butler 56 as Heat beat Bucks to take 3-1 lead As per the deal, the Packers are going to send Rodgers along with their 15th overall first-round pick and a fifth round pick in 2023 NFL Draft, scheduled to be held from April 27-29. NFL: Green Bay Packers trade quarterback Aaron Rodgers to New York Jets

Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest on the field on January 2 during the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, announced that he's fit to play again.

Hamlin joined the Bills' voluntary workouts this weeks, is still seeing the specialists but said that he plans to make a comeback to the league after being cleared for full football activity, nearly three and a half months after the incident.

“I’m here to announce I plan on making a comeback to the NFL. Over the past few months, I’ve been on a journey, and I’ve seen some of the top professionals across the country. And their answers to me were all the same. This event was lifechanging, but it’s not the end of my story,” said Hamlin during a press conference on Tuesday.

“Not to sound cliché, but the wild moment is just every day, being able to wake up, take deep breaths and live a peaceful life, to have a family, to have people around me that care about me. And for those people to still have me in their lives,” Hamlin added.

“They almost lost me. I died on national TV in front of the whole world. So, I see it from all perspectives. So, for them to still have me around and for me to still have them, it still goes both ways,” he further said.

Hamlin informed during the press conference that he suffered from commotio cordis which was the cause of this cardiac arrest. The commotio cordis, according to the American Heart Association, starts with a blow to the chest at a precise spot at just a not so accurate time in the heartbeat.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane also said that all the three specialists who evaluated Hamlin have cleared cleared to start the football activities.

"They’re all in agreement – it’s not two to one or three to one or anything like that – they’re all in lockstep of what this was and that he is cleared to resume full activities just like anyone else that was coming back from an injury," said Beane at the press conference. Listen in here:

NFL: Former defensive lineman Chris Smith dies at 31

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts, who led the Eagles into last season's Super Bowl, became the NFL's highest-paid player on Monday after agreeing to a five-year contract extension worth $255 million.

The Eagles locked up the 24-year-old signal caller through the 2028 campaign with a deal that, according to the NFL's website, has $179.304 million in guaranteed money and the first no-trade clause in team history.

Hurts went 14-1 as a starter last season, completing 66.5% of his passes for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushing 165 times for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns.

After the Eagles' 2020 NFL Draft pick led routs of the New York Giants and San Francisco in the playoffs, Philadelphia lost the Super Bowl 38-35 to Kansas City despite Hurts throwing for 304 yards and a touchdown and rushing for Super Bowl records by a quarterback of 70 yards and three touchdowns.

While the Hurts-Eagles deal is the NFL's biggest ever in average annual value, Deshaun Watson's $230 million contract with Cleveland last year remains the largest in terms of guaranteed money and the 10-year deal for $450 million Patrick Mahomes signed with Kansas City in 2020 remains the largest in total payout.

Hurts can earn an additional $15 million in contract incentives to boost his total above $275 million in the deal, including $4.3 million he would have been paid in the final year of his original rookie contract.

With a $23.294 million signing bonus, Hurts is set to make $64 million in the first season of the new deal.

"The thing with Jalen I'm so optimistic about is he's just got this incredible... passion for being phenomenal," Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie said earlier this month at the NFL annual meeting in Arizona.

"You see that in the great ones. You can define them by their obsession with detail and work ethic.

"I think the future is so great for him. Honestly, I don't know if I've ever met somebody that mature at age 24."

Former rugby star Jarryd Hayne has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman after deliberations made by the third jury in this case. In 2021, the first jury gave Hayne five years and nine months in prison; however, the verdict was overturned by the New South Wales Court of Criminal Appeal last year. Now, the third jury has again found him guilty of assaulting a woman back in 2018.

Who is Jarryd Hayne?

Jarryd Hayne was a rugby superstar in Australia, playing for the Parramatta Eels in the National Rugby League (NRL). He won numerous awards and accolades, including the Dally M Medal for the NRL's best player twice. He also represented the Australian national rugby league team and helped them win the Rugby League World Cup in 2013.

In 2015, Hayne announced that he was leaving rugby league to pursue a career in the National Football League (NFL) in the United States. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a running back but struggled to make an impact and was released after just one season.

What are the sexual assault allegations against Jarryd Hayne?

In 2018, Hayne was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at her home in Newcastle, Australia. He had met the woman on social media, and they had arranged to meet up after a friend's bachelor party. Hayne pleaded not guilty to the charges, but after three trials, he has been found guilty of sexual assault. Hayne will be sentenced at a later date, but his bail was continued after the verdict was reached.

Civil Lawsuit in California

In addition to the sexual assault allegations in Australia, Hayne was also accused of sexual assault in a civil lawsuit brought by a woman in California in 2016. The alleged incident occurred in 2015, but police decided not to charge Hayne.

Hayne denied the allegations, saying he "unequivocally and vehemently" denied them. The case was settled in 2019 before going to trial.

A group led by billionaire investor Josh Harris and NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson has submitted one of two multi-billion-dollar bids for the NFL's embattled Washington Commanders, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.

The Post was among US media outlets citing unnamed sources saying at least one formal bid had been submitted.

According to the newspaper, Harris's group includes Maryland billionaire businessman and philanthropist Mitchell Rales as well as former Los Angeles Lakers great Johnson.

Harris, the co-founder of Apollo Global Management, already owns the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and is a co-owner of the NHL's New Jersey Devils and a general partner of the English Premier League's Crystal Palace.

ESPN reported the Harris-Johnson group is offering to pay the $6 billion that has been reported as the price sought by Commanders owner Dan Snyder.

Snyder and his wife Tanya announced in November they were exploring purchase deals for the club.

Snyder, who purchased the Commanders -- then the Washington Redskins -- in 1999, has been at the center of multiple investigations into the running of the team.

A US Congressional report released in December said that Snyder "permitted and participated" in a toxic workplace culture and tried to dissuade witnesses from cooperating with a 14-month investigation launched by the league.

In 2021, the NFL fined the club -- then going by the name of the Washington Football Team -- $10 million and required Snyder to relinquish day-to-day operations for several months.

The Post and other outlets reported that Canadian billionaire developer Steve Apostolopoulos, the managing partner of Triple Group of Companies and founder of the Six Ventures private equity fund, had also bid for the club.

Any sale of the club requires approval of 75% of the other 31 NFL clubs.

NFL: Billionaire Josh Harris, NBA icon Earvin Johnson team in bid for Commanders - Reports

Former National Football League's (NFL) quarterback Cam Newton is all set to showcase his skills at Auburn once again - nearly 12 years after he first did that in the lead up of 2011 NFL draft.

Newton, who is an alumni of Auburn Tigers, will throw on his school's pro day on Tuesday. The QB made the announcement via a video he posted on his Twitter account.

"Tell me how these randoms keep getting jobs," an emphatic Newton said in the video. "Don't worry about it. I'm going to show you. I can't wait to show you," Newton can be seen saying in the video. "Ain't 32 [QBs] better than me," he said while ending the video with a smile.

The video had a lot of Newton's iconic laugh while he threw balls to Wide Receivers inside a practice bubble. Have a look at the video here:

Newton, who is an alumni of Auburn Tigers, will throw on his school's pro day on Tuesday. The QB made the announcement via a video he posted on his Twitter account. "Tell me how these randoms keep getting jobs," an emphatic Newton said in the video. "Don't worry about it. I'm going to show you. I can't wait to show you," Newton can be seen saying in the video. "Ain't 32 [QBs] better than me," he said while ending the video with a smile. The video had a lot of Newton's iconic laugh while he threw balls to Wide Receivers inside a practice bubble. NFL: Ex-Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton to throw at Auburn Tigers' pro day

Basketball Hall of Famer Earvin 'Magic' Johnson has joined the group which is bidding to own the National Football League's (NFL) Washington Commanders franchise. The news, confirmed to ESPN by sources on Monday, said that Johnson is now part of the Josh Harris-led group in the bidding process.

If the deal comes through, this is will be the fourth team in which Johnson will have stakes as he already is a part owner of Major League Baseball's (MLB) Los Angeles Dodgers, Women league of National Basketball Association's (NBA) Los Angeles Sparks and Major League Soccer's (MLS) Los Angeles FC.

Notably, Johnson played for NBA's Los Angeles Lakers as a player and later got associated with the team in different roles, including as a coach.

Harris, who is leading the group which has bid for the ownership of the Washington Commanders, currently owns NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and National Hockey League's (NHL) New Jersey Devils.

Josh Harris had earlier tried to buy the Denver Broncos last summer but the deal could not come through. Magic Johnson was also part of that process with Harris.

As for the Commanders, Forbes has listed the price of the franchise at $ 5.6 billion after the current owners, Dan and Tanya Snyder made their intention of making the franchise public in November last year.

Apart from Magic, a Washington D.C. billionaire, Mitchell Rales, with a net worth of $ 5.5 billion according to Forbes, has also joined the Josh Harris camp in the bidding process, further strengthening their position.

The involvement of Magic Johnson was first reported by Sportico, however, it is uncertain as of now how much the former basketball star would be investing.

Sources have also told ESPN that apart from the Harris group, NBA's Houston Rockets' owner Tilman Fertitta was another group who has visited the Commanders facility. There are a total of four groups in contention and the other two are anonymous so far.

The NFL owners are meeting next week in Phoenix but the deal, even if it happens, is expected to come through in late May sometime, informed the sources to ESPN.

NFL: Earvin 'Magic' Johnson joins Josh Harris-led group bidding to buy Washington Commanders

Derek Carr has agreed to join the New Orleans Saints, announced the team on Monday. The former Las Vegas Raiders QB, who declined to waive his no-trade clause, will join the Saints in a four-year deal.

The money involved in the deal has not been revealed yet but according to ESPN, Carr could potentially get up to $150 million with around $100 million in guarantees.

The deal comes after Carr visited New Orleans and met with the members of the franchise during his two-day trip in early February. The QB met with the team representatives again at the recently concluded NFL combine in Indianapolis.

The 31-year-old had also been in talks with two other teams, that is, the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers, before coming to terms with the Saints.

Carr, however, did not have a good season with the Saints in 2022 as he finished with 3,522 passing yards (third lowest in his 9-year career), 24 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions (tied with most in a single season) in 14 games as he was benched for the last two games in a 'mutual decision.'

The Saints, his new team, also didn't get any bragging rights after finishing the season with a 7-10 win-loss record.

Carr, who has spent his entire career, from 2014-2022 with the Raiders, first with now-defunct Oakland from 2014-19 and then with Las Vegas from 2019-22, has made four trips to the Pro Bowl so far. He also took the Raiders to the playoff twice in 2016 and 2021 during his stay.

The Saints have also not been able to stabilise their offense ever since the star quarterback Drew Brees retired before the 2021 season. New Orleans, after signing Carr, would now be looking to release QB Andy Dalton, who started 14 games in 2022 but will be a free agent come free agency.

The Saints also have Jameis Winston under the contract for another year but the latest deal could see him released as well.

NFL: Former Raiders QB Derek Carr agrees to join New Orleans Saints

Jerry Richardson, an American businessman and former football player, died at the age of 86 on Wednesday, March 1. He was also the owner of one of the most influential National Football League (NFL) teams, the Carolina Panthers. He owned the franchise, Carolina Panthers from 1995 to 2018. Richardson was the face of the Panthers until his image was ultimately tainted by a sexual scandal.

The Panthers announced that Richardson died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday night. The current franchise owner, David Tepper, said in a statement, “With the arrival of the Panthers in 1995, he changed the landscape of sports in the region and gave the NFL fans here a team to call their own”.

Who was Jerry Richardson?

Jerry Richardson was a football player and the first former player to own an NFL team since Chicago’s George Halas. He was born in North Carolina, where he also did his schooling before entering Wofford College in South Carolina. He was an Associated Press Little All-American selection in 1957 and 1958. He made many records in his football career, from being Wofford’s single-game record with 214 receiving yards to become the record holder for touchdown receptions in a season and in a career.

As a senior at Wofford, he scored 72 points on nine touchdowns, 12 extra points and two field goals. Richardson was elected as the team captain in 1958 and in 1983 he was chosen to Wofford’s All-Time Football team as a receiver.

Richardson was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Order family and was drafted in the 13th round by the then-defending world champion Baltimore Colts. He played two seasons in the NFL, earning Colt Rookie of the Year honours in 1959. He caught a touchdown pass in the 1959 NFC Championship Game from quarterback Johnny Unitas. He was traded from the Colts to the New York Giants for John Guzik on August 3, 1961.

How did Jerry Richardson help reshape the NFL?

Richardson was one of the most influential owners in the history of the NFL. The former Baltimore Colts player was a key factor in decision-making within the league during his time as the owner of the Panthers. He was highly active in his executive role which ensured the implementation of a number of positive changes in the NFL.

He secured an expansion franchise in the NFL in October 1993. The Carolina Panthers was unanimously awarded the 29th NFL franchise, ensuring a presence in the league in the southeastern region of the country. Under the leadership of Richardson, the franchise became a beloved institution in the Carolinas and beyond. His vision was crucial to the success of the team. He led the team to the Super Bowl twice (2002 and 2015) but never achieved the dream of winning it.

He was known for his commitment and dedication to the team’s players and the larger community. He also played a pivotal role in the development of the Bank of America Stadium where he once had his own statue. Despite the circumstances that led to his sale of the team, his time in the franchise will always be recognised with excellence.

What was the controversy around Jerry Richardson that caused his downfall?

Richardson was forced to sell his franchise owing to allegations of sexual harassment by female employees in 2018. The allegations came out on December 17, 2017, in a report by Sports Illustrated. The report was based on anonymous sources who alleged that Richardson used to give ‘significant’ monetary settlements to Panthers employees. In the report, he was also called out for his inappropriate workplace comments, including sexually suggestive language and behaviour. Reports also claimed his racial slur at an African-American Panthers scout on an occasion.

What was the cause of the death of Jerry Richardson?

The cause of his death is unknown as his family did not reveal any details about his death. A family spokesperson said on Thursday, that Richardson “died peacefully last night at his Charlotte home”.

“I will always remember him, as will millions in his beloved Carolinas, as the father of NFL football in these sister states,” said Max Muhleman, a public-relations specialist who worked closely with Richardson for years.

Who was Jerry Richardson? Ex-owner of Panthers who helped reshape NFL- What caused his death?

Former NFL wide receiver Josh Gordon, in a game-winning play, scored a 65-yard touchdown in the final minutes of the game as the Seattle Sea Dragons beat the Vegas Vipers 30-26 in a XFL 2023 Week 3 game.

The Vipers were leading 26-24 with 1:11 left in the fourth quarter. The ball, however, was in Dragons' posssession and they were 4th and 2 at Seattle 35. Dragons QB Ben DiNucci, who had an incomplete pass on 3rd and 2, made the most of the second chance.

The QB, after getting the ball from the centre, went back a few yards and heaved one in the air in Gordon's direction. The former NFL WR was ready for the catch. He seemed to have run into some traffic but managed to score the touchdown. Have a look at the video:

The play by Gordon clearly showed by he was one of the premier WRs in the NFL. After being picked by the Cleveland Browns in 2012, Gordon spent 11 seasons in the league, playing for five franchises namely New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans. The journey includes two-year suspension period for 2015 and 2016 seasons as well.

Gordon's best days, however, came with the Cleveland Browns with whom he spent time from 2012 to 2018, including the suspension period. In 2013, his second in the league, Gordon managed 1646 receiving yards for 87 catches in the 14 games he played.

With everything looking set for him to become one of the impact players, he was suspended for two seasons for breaching the leagues drug abuse policy and just couldn't return to his former self after being reinstated in late 2017.

XFL 2023: Former NFL WR Josh Gordon scores 65-yard touchdown - Watch

Former Pitt Panthers wide receiver Jordan Addison, at the NFL Combine, on Friday, made it clear that it'd be 'real cool' if the Steelers pick him in the draft, reuniting him with his college teammate and quarterback Kenny Pickett.

"Hey man, if we reunite, that'd be good," Addison said on Friday. "That'd be real cool. Real easy transition. Come get me."

Addison and Pickett played together for two years, 2020 and 2021, at the Panther before the WR decided to join USC for his final season in college while Pickett joined the league.

"That'll help the transition a lot," Addison added. "Just having your former quarterback, you already got a relationship, No. 1, and then that trust factor. So with him, once you're running your routes, he's trusting you to be at a certain spot at the right time."

While there have been many equations in the NFL currently where the teams have paired up college teammates, Steelers general manager Omar Khan is not hyped up too much about it,

"I think you're always looking at things like that, but given the offseason that you have and the time guys spend together, I think the transition of new receivers trying to get acclimated to quarterbacks is not a hard process," said Khan. "... But Jordan Addison, he's a really good football player," he added on Tuesday.

As far as Pickett is concerned, the QB has already done the advocating for this former college mate.

"We talked about playing in the NFL together while we were at Pitt," Pickett had said in January on Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward "Not Just Football" podcast. "That's like the college teammates' dream, especially for a quarterback and receiver, that kind of dynamic, especially given how well we played together," the QB added.

Among the famous duos in NFL who played together in College are Jacksonville Jaguars QB & WR Joe Burrow & Ja'Marr Chase from LSU and Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts and WR DeVonta Smith who were together at Alabama.

NFL: WR Jordan Addison 'asks' Steelers, QB Pickett to pick him up at the draft

The Cincinnati Bengals have made it clear in as many word that wide receiver Tee Higgins, who would entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract this year, isn't up for grabs.

Bengals executive Duke Tobin, during his annual NFL scouting combine session, made Cincinnati's stand clear on the Wide Receiver. "If they want a receiver, go find your own," Tobin said. "In my opinion, Tee Higgins is a good piece for the Cincinnati Bengals. The trade stuff is a little ridiculous right now," he added.

Tobin has good reasons to put Higgins off the trading block as the Wide Receiver has been one of the most prolific ones not only for the Bengals but in the entire National Football League (NFL).

Higgins' strong show has transpired into the Bengals having a good show as well. Cincinnati's 2021 season fell short of the Super Bowl dream in Super Bowl LVI itself when they lost to the Los Angeles Rams. In the season just concluded, they lost the AFC Championship game to the eventual winner - the Kansas City Chiefs.

In Super Bowl LVI, Higgins had 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns while in this years' AFC Championship game, the WR had 83 receiving yards and a touchdown. In both, 2021 and 2022 season, Higgins managed more than 1000+ yards.

Apart from Higgins, wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase and quarterback Joe Burro will also be eligible for contract extension talks this year or the next year.

Duke Tobin also talked about keeping Joe Burrow in the Bengals after the franchise saw a change of fortune after his arrival.

"I have been pretty vocal about what Joe means to us, and my job is to facilitate his success as best I can with putting pieces around him, and his contract will get done when it gets done," he said. "But it's a good problem to have. He's a vital part of what we're doing."

NFL: Wide Receiver Tee Higgins not up for trade, say Cincinnati Bengals

Quarterback Carson Wentz has been released by the Washington Commanders after just one season on Monday. The move comes without a surprise after what was a horrid season that ended with eight wins, eight losses and one tie. Wentz played in eight games with seven starts, managing a 2-5 win-loss record.

By releasing Wentz, Washington would save around $26 million in salary cap for the upcoming offseason as he had no guarantee money despite two years left on his contract. This is the Commanders' second release after they released defensive back Bobby McCain on Monday and saved around $2.3 million on the salary cap.

Wentz, who will now look for his fourth-team in as many years, can sign with any team before the start of the free agency. Washington had acquired Wentz from the Indianapolis Colts in a trade last year that included multiple second and third round picks.

Wentz was the no. 2 draft pick in 2016 and was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles. The QB almost had his MVP season in 2017 before getting injured in the postseason in what was a Super Bowl-winning run for the Eagles. Wentz eventually was traded to the Colts after five seasons with the Eagles in favour of fresh recruit Jalen Hurts.

With the Colts, Wentz came back to form strongly and delivered one of his most prolific seasons since 2017 with 27 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. A loss to the 2-14 Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18, however, dimmed his possibilities of staying with the Colts for the upcoming season.

All in all, Wentz has started in 92 games and thrown 151 touchdowns along with 66 interceptions. A lot of injuries have marred his career throughout and this season might be his last chance to be a starter for an NFL team for which he clearly possesses talent and skills.

NFL: Miami Dolphins CB Bryon Jones 'can't run or jump because of my injuries'

Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who recently joined the Washington Commanders in the same capacity, explained moving out after winning the second Super Bowl trophy in four years during his introductory news conference.

If summarized in a few words, 'it was time to move on' for Bieniemy after a successful 10-season stint with the Chiefs. During his time as an assistant to head coach Andy Reid, he saw Kansas City going to five consecutive AFC championship games and two Super Bowls.

“When it was all said and done with, when it was time to move on, it was time to accept this new challenge. You always envision it in a different way," he said. The new Commanders OC and assistant head coach, who will be doing the play-calling unlike with the Chiefs, also said that one of the reasons to move out is because he wanted a new challenge. “Comfort is the enemy of progress. So this presents a challenge to me," added Bieniemy.

While many would have liked to see him become a head coach in the National Football League (NFL), where the racial diversity among head coaches is much talked about, Bieniemy said that he's not currently thinking about it. Notably, Bieniemy has interviewed with 15 different teams since 2019 for the position of the head coach.

"I’m focusing on being the best coach that I can be today. Being a head coach, if that’s to happen, it will take care of itself. I can't worry about the things I can't control," he said.

Talking about what he's looking forward to with Washington, he responded by saying that in Kansas, he was part of a family within the organization and that meant the most to him. “But now it’s about broadening my circles and expanding, and getting to know my new family,” he said.

NFL: New Washington Commanders OC Eric Bieniemy explains why he left Chiefs

Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson pushed to get Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll fired before being traded, said a report from The Athletic. Wilson, who is now with the Denver Broncos, however, denied the claim in a tweet.

Wilson, according to the report, had asked the Seahawks' owners to fire Carroll along with general manager John Schneider in February 2022 and had hoped that Sean Payton will join Seattle as the head coach. A lawyer from Wilson's side dubbed the report as 'entirely fabricated.'

In response to the report, Wilson tweeted on Friday morning that he didn't want them fired. "I love Pete and he was a father figure to me and John believed in me and drafted me as well. I never wanted them fired. All any of us wanted was to win. l’ll always have respect for them and love for Seattle," read Wilson's tweet.

Wilson spent 10 seasons with the Seahawks and won Super Bowl XLVIII with them in 2014 after being picked up by Seattle in third round of the 2012 NFL draft. The nine-time Pro Bowler was eventually traded before the 2022 season to the Denver Broncos for multiple first- and second-round picks and QB Drew Lock.

Wilson was awarded a five-year $245 million extension, including $165 million in guarantee, by the Broncos. The season, however, turned out to be a nightmare for both Wilson and Denver as the team could manage only a 5-12 record. The dismal performance led to the firing of Broncos' first-year coach Nathaniel Hackett with Payton taking over the reigns.

For the Seahawks, the story was much prettier as they made to the playoffs in 2022. In what was a perfect start of the season, the Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 17-16 on Monday Night Football in their first game, a win which was defined by Seahawks coach Pete Carroll as 'really rewarding.'

In what was a perfect start of the season, the Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 17-16 on Monday Night Football in their first game, a win which was defined by Seahawks coach Pete Carroll as 'really rewarding.' NFL: Report claims Russell Wilson wanted Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll fired, QB denies

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has come out from his 'darkness retreat' in Oregon. Sky Cave Retreats owner Scott Berman said Wednesday that the Packers QB has left the dark room. Rodgers had gone in 'darkness isolation' to 'have a better sense of where I'm at in my life.'

The 39-year-old quarterback, who has played the entire 18 years of his career with the Packers, had said on February 7, on The Pat McAfee Show, that he would decide on his future after coming back from the 'isolation retreat of complete darkness.'

"I'm still in the art of contemplation about my future," Rodgers said on the show. "That’s why I think it’s going to be important to get through this week and then to take my isolation retreat and just be able to contemplate all things my future and then make a decision that I feel like is best for me moving forward and the highest interest of my happiness and then move forward," he added.

The four-time MVP although, made it clear on the February 14 edition of that show and said that he was not going to the retreat only to figure out whether to play in the 2023 NFL season or retire.

The dark room in the retreat where Rodgers spent days is a partially underground 300-square-foot structure without sunlight. The room, however, is fully powered with lights inside, a queen bed, a bathroom, and a meditation-like mat, as per the facility owner.

Rodgers is currently under contract with the Green Bay Packers for $59.465 million guaranteed if he decided to play in 2023. Rodgers' exit, however, may open the door for Jordan Love to become the starter at the Packers. Mark Murphy, the Green Bay president, earlier this month said that there isn't a deadline for Rodgers to make his decision but that he hoped for one before the beginning of free agency.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who's been waiting to get his torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) repaired, will have to wait some more time. The surgery, which was expected to be done, on Wednesday, in Arlington, Texas, has been delayed due to swelling in Purdy's right elbow, sources told ESPN. The decision was taken after the QB met with D. Keith Meister, who recommended to wait until the inflammation in the elbow goes down further. Meister and Purdy are now hoping to get the procedure done in early March and will be regrouping regarding the same. This whole development was first reported by the NFL Network.

The delay also means that the QB's potential return to the field after that six-month recovery period post the surgery will be sometime in late August. That comeback, however, depends on the fact that Purdy just needs "surgical UCL repair augmented with an InternalBrace," and not a hybrid procedure to partially reconstruct the elbow. The decision on the need to hybrid surgery although, can not be taken until the doctor takes a look at the elbow when the procedure begins.

Speaking on the same to KNBR radio in San Francisco earlier this month, Purdy, who'll miss the Niners' entire offseason program, said that hybrid surgery would require extra recovery time. We're going into it thinking the repair with the InternalBrace, for sure," the QB said. "All the surgeons have said that and that's what we're hoping for and get a six-month recovery in and be ready for [training] camp," he added.

In the meanwhile, Trey Lance, who himself is recovering from a broken right ankle, is expected to take up the top quarterback's job for the franchise activities and minicamps. While injured, Lance is expected to cleared to run in time and join the OTAs.

Former Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, who is currently working as the Caroline Panthers senior assistant, says that he's not looking to become a head coach in NFL anymore. Caldwell, who is known as one of the faces of the NFL when it comes of Black head coaches, was fired as the Lions head coach in 2017. He, since then, has interviewed many times to be the head coach but with no luck. Caldwell, 68, said on Tuesday that he's only concerned about his current job. Notably, among the five teams with the position of head coach available, only the Houston Texans hired a minority coach.

"Right now, the only job that I'm concerned about is the job I do here, right here and now,'' said Caldwell. "I'm not worried about the future or anything else. I don't plan on being a head coach from this point forward. When I didn't get a head-coaching job, I immediately sort of changed the plan in terms of what I was looking for next.'' I knew I was at the stage where I wanted to be back in the building somewhere," he added.

Caldwell had also interviewed to be the head coach with the Carolina Panthers as well but eventually the job went to Frank Reich. Panthers owner David Tepper hired Reich, who also was the franchise quarterback in 1995, for his playcalling experience. Reich, however, hoped to turn the playcalling job to Panthers' new offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, who also happens to be Black.

XFL: Commissioner Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson delivers passionate speech to kick off 2023 season

The NFL season is over and the Kansas City Chiefs are the champions, winning their second Super Bowl in four years after beating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in a hard-fought game in Arizona last week. But for footballs fans, the season isn't over as the XFL is back with another season to make a viable and profitable football league. The league has been revamped completely with teams, rules, players, coaches and ownership after going bankrupt in 2020. Former WWE superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson serves as the league commissioner now and has said that he'll be attending all the games of XFL's opening weekend.

What is XFL?

The XFL was founded in 2018 by Vince McMahon in a reboot of the league founded by McMahon for the first time in 1999 with the same name which ceased operations in 2001 after being active for just one year.

For the 2018 version, McMahon changed some rules as he tried to revitalized the league with the inaugural season kicking off in 2020. The show, however, cold go on for just about five weeks as the league lost the money, largely due to the catastrophic impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In August 2020 though, The Rock, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale's RedBird Capital decided to purchase the XFL for $15 million in a fortune turn of event for the league which had declared bankruptcy in April 2020.

How is XFL different from the NFL?

While the XFL invariable a football league, it has tweaked a few rules in comparison with the NFL to give it a different flavour. Here are the XFL rules which are different from the NFL:

Extra-point attempts

The XFL has no kicking rules after a touchdown but instead three options for point conversion unlike NFL which has only two options of kick and two-point conversion. In XFL, the teams will have options to choose from one, two or three points conversion attempts from the opponent's 2-, 5- and 10-yard line, respectively.

Game clock

XFL has the play clock of 35 seconds instead 40 seconds like in NFL. The clock will also be running on incomplete passes and out-of-bounds plays till the two-minute warning. The clock will also stop on all first downs after the two-minute warning.

Onside kick

While the teams can still go for regular onside kicks, they will have an option to attempt a fourth-and-15 conversion, although the option is available only in the fourth quarter. The onside kicks, however, can be taken anytime.

Double forward pass

The XFL allows the players to throw two forward passes on each play, given that the first pass is completed behind the line of scrimmage.

Overtime shootout

If a game goes in the OT, each team will get three attempts for a two-point conversion from the opponent's 5-yeard line in alternate manner. The winner will be decided on the basis of points after all three attempts of each side. If the game, however, still remains tied, then it will move to sudden death.

Kickoff

The teams in XFL will have to stand five yards apart during the kickoff with the kicking team at the opponent's 35-yard line and returning team at their own 30-yard line. No other player is allowed to move apart from the kicker and the returner till the time the ball is caught or is on the ground for a minimum of three seconds

Replay review

Here's the list of all the teams with their head coaches and home grounds: North Division DC Defenders, head coach: Reggie Barlow, home ground: Audi Field Seattle Sea Dragons, head coach: Jim Haslett, home ground: Lumen Field St. Louis Battlehawks, head coach: Anthony Becht, home ground: The Dome at America's Centre Vegas Vipers, head coach: Rod Woodson, home ground: Cashman Field South Division Arlington Renegades, head coach: Bob Stoops, home ground: Choctaw Stadium Houston Roughnecks, head coach: Wade Phillips, home ground: TDECU Field Orlando Guardians, head coach: Terrell Buckley, home ground: Camping World Stadium San Antonio Brahmas, head coach: Hines Ward, home ground: Alamodome Read More: NBA: Dirk Nowitzki, Paul Gasol, Dwyane Wade highlight 2023 class of Hall of Fame finalists list How is XFL different from the NFL? While the XFL invariable a football league, it has tweaked a few rules in comparison with the NFL to give it a different flavour. Here are the XFL rules which are different from the NFL: Extra-point attempts The XFL has no kicking rules after a touchdown but instead three options for point conversion unlike NFL which has only two options of kick and two-point conversion. In XFL, the teams will have options to choose from one, two or three points conversion attempts from the opponent's 2-, 5- and 10-yard line, respectively. Game clock XFL has the play clock of 35 seconds instead 40 seconds like in NFL. The clock will also be running on incomplete passes and out-of-bounds plays till the two-minute warning. The clock will also stop on all first downs after the two-minute warning. Onside kick While the teams can still go for regular onside kicks, they will have an option to attempt a fourth-and-15 conversion, although the option is available only in the fourth quarter. The onside kicks, however, can be taken anytime. Double forward pass The XFL allows the players to throw two forward passes on each play, given that the first pass is completed behind the line of scrimmage. Overtime shootout If a game goes in the OT, each team will get three attempts for a two-point conversion from the opponent's 5-yeard line in alternate manner. The winner will be decided on the basis of points after all three attempts of each side. If the game, however, still remains tied, then it will move to sudden death. Kickoff The teams in XFL will have to stand five yards apart during the kickoff with the kicking team at the opponent's 35-yard line and returning team at their own 30-yard line. No other player is allowed to move apart from the kicker and the returner till the time the ball is caught or is on the ground for a minimum of three seconds Replay review The coaches are allowed to challenge the calls 'involving a foul or potential foul,' but they get only one such attempt during the game. XFL start date and total number of games The league will go on for a total of 10 weeks from February 18 to April 22. XFL 2023: All you need to know including rules, teams, games and more

Former Las Vegas Raider quarterback Derek Carr, who is a free-agent now, will be visiting the New York Jets for a potential tie-up, reported NFL network first. The news has also been confirmed by the sources to ESPN, which also said that the nine-year veteran QB will be going to meet the Jets. Carr became a free agent after being released by the Raiders on Tuesday after he decided to decline to waive his no-trade clause which would have gotten him more than $40 million and see him become guaranteed. The QB, however, holds most of the passing records for the Raiders.

The QB, who'll be turning 32 next month, has passed for more than 4,000 yards in four of the past five seasons and has went 63-79 as the team's starter. The Fresno State QB, who was selected in second round of 2014, has started 91 straight games until being benched this season, with a record 142 starts since entering the league in 2014 - a record he ties with Tom Brady in that period.

If a deal is struck with the Jets, it would a different picture for them as they, so far, have opted for rookie QBs straight out of the NFL Draft. Some examples of it are first-round picks of Sam Darnold in 2018, Zach Wilson in 2021 and Mark Sanchez in 2009. The team, however, could not reach the desired stability. This has made Jets owner Woody Johnson to go for an experience QB and he made his thoughts public recently as said he would 'absolutely' pay big bucks to acquire the ''missing piece", that is, a quarterback.

The Jets, at 225, have the fewest touchdown passes since their last playoff season in 2010 and are tied for the most interceptions, 210, with the Tampa Bat Buccaneers.

Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator of the Super Bowl LVII winner Kansas City Chiefs, is reportedly joining the Washington Commanders as their new OC from the upcoming season in a two-year deal. According to ESPN, the Commanders have already finalized a deal to hire Bieniemy as their new OC and assistant head coach in a deal that includes a promotion in title, contractual structure and a pay raise.
