Who is Rubina Francis - the para shooter who won India's fifth medal at Paris Paralympics 2024

Francis hails from Jabalpur and suffers from leg dysfunction. Her interest in shooting started in 2015, inspired by Gagan Narang winning a shooting medal (bronze) in the 2012 London Olympics.

Despite financial hurdles, she continued on her path and eventually got selected in MP shooting academy. The guidance by coaches including Jaspal Rana helped her hone the skills.

She secured the quota for playing at the Paralympics at the 2021 Lima World Cup and represented India in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020as well. She, however, couldn't manage to secure a medal in Tokyo, finishing seventh in the same event.

In Paris though, Rubina showed her class, composure and skills to help India get its fifth medal.
