New Delhi, India

Danish badminton player Viktor Axelsen shared a video depicting the difference between the quality of medal he won at the Tokyo Olympics and the just-concluded Paris Olympic Games. Axelson won gold in the men's singles in both Tokyo and Paris. In the Paris edition, he outclassed Thailand's world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn, 21-11, 21-11, to win his second successive Olympic gold. After the end of the edition, which concluded on Aug 11, Axelsen's video in which he compared the medals of Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 has since gone viral. In the video, his gold medal from Paris 2024 looks dull compared to the one he won in Tokyo.

It can be seen from the video that Axelsen's gold medal from Tokyo 2020 still has its shine, whereas the one he received in Paris 2024 doesn't look that shiny. It looks slightly worn out. Since the video was shared on the Danish star's official Instagram handle, it has garnered over 8.1 million views, with many slamming the medal's quality.

An individual took note of Axelsen's video and said, "Tokyo gold medal is shining more." Another Instagram user opined, "Why is the Paris one losing it's colour?"

A third one commented, "This medal is made by the elite of the Japanese Mint. It can't be compared to the French" whereas another user wrote, "Tokyo one looks better in quality. Made in Japan."

Earlier, American skateboarder Nyjah Huston had also pointed out the poor condition of the bronze medal he won at the Paris Olympics. He said, "Alright, so these Olympic medals look great when they're brand new, but after they're sit on my skin with some sweat for a little bit and then letting my friends wear it over the weekend, they're apparently not as high they're as you would think."

Later, a Paris 2024 spokesperson assured that the athletes who had damaged medals would get a replaced one.
