IPL 2024: Bumrah reflects on five-for against RCB as Mumbai crush Bengaluru

When on song Jasprit Bumrah is the toughest bowler to face in world cricket. Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians' ace seamer Bumrah wreaked havoc by picking a five-wicket haul; however, he sounded disappointed for conceding a six off his last ball to Dinesh Karthik. The hosts clinched a stunning victory by seven wickets to pick their second win of the season.

Bumrah first removed Virat Kohli caught behind before getting his opening partner and Captain Faf du Plessis caught in the deep on 61.

The Yorker king delivered on the next ball, trapping Mahipal Lomror in front of the wickets on zero. His last two wickets came off his final over, 19th of RCB's innings, before the man-in-form Karthik slammed him for a six over the covers on his last delivery of the spell. Bumrah's match-winning figures read five for 21 in four overs.

Speaking to the broadcaster after RCB's innings, Bumrah reflected on his performance saying, "Yeah, it was a good day, you know, one of those days when mostly what I was executing was working. And the wicket was a little sticky, so I was trying to look at my options. Still a little disappointed of my last ball, but yeah, that's the way T20 cricket goes."

When asked about how every time he manages to pick wickets whenever he is given the ball at any stage during the game, the experienced India seamer said he's used to doing it for 11 years now.

"I've been doing this for 11 years here, so I have now been used to being ready whenever the situation demands," Bumrah said.

"You use your experience, you keep an eye on [where] the game is heading, because what happened in the end, dew set in, so the wicket got a little better and the ball started skidding on. So all of these things, you try to get involved in the game and you try to help others as well," MI's ace bowler added.

MI gets going in IPL 2024

After losing three of their four contested matches ahead of this game, Mumbai seemed to have found their mojo back with successive wins this season.

Against the struggling RCB, all of MI's star players hogged the limelight. While Bumrah returned with a five-for, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav slammed quickfire fifties, as MI chased down 197 with seven wickets and over four overs remaining.
