Former Australian captain of men's cricket Steve Smith is currently serving a 12-month ban for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal which was revealed in March 2018 when Australia men's cricket team was touring South Africa for a four-Test match series.
During the third Test at Cape Town, Cameron Bancroft was found guilty of altering the condition of the ball by using sandpaper in order to ‘reverse swing’ the ball.
The incident was caught in various cameras around the ground. Bancroft and Smith accepted that they were involved in the ball tampering mess and eventually punishments followed and with it came the tears- live on TV.
On Friday, May 4, Steve Smith shared a picture with his wife Dani Willis and thanked fans and followers who have supported him during his difficult times through letters and emails.
"I have had some time away to come to terms with everything and now it’s time to get back into it. The amount of emails and letters I have received has been incredible and I have been extremely humbled by the enormous amount of support you have given me," said former Australian skipper Steve Smith.
He also said, "I now have a lot to do to earn back your trust."
