Rishabh Pant, who was missing from the Indian squad due to a foot injury, was included after playing a match-winning 90-run knock in the India A vs South Africa A contest.
The India team for the upcoming South Africa home series was announced on Wednesday (Nov 5) as veteran wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made his much-awaited return to the squad after an injury. Pant, who was missing from the Indian squad due to a foot injury, was included after playing a match-winning 90-run knock in the India A vs South Africa A contest. On the other hand, Tilak Varma was named captain of the Indian A squad for the white-ball series against South Africa.
Pant returns to Test set-up
Having been injured in the Manchester Test against England in July, Pant had to sit out of the Asia Cup 2025, the West Indies and the Australia series. Despite missing a chunk of the important series, India won the Asia Cup and later the home series against the West Indies. However, he returned to action for the India A vs South Africa A series, where he played a match-winning knock of 90 runs.
Pant’s return to the Indian set-up also meant N Jagadeesan dropped out of the squad, while Dhruv Jurel will serve as deputy to Pant in the South Africa series. Interestingly, the wicketkeeper-batter will also be India’s vice-captain for the series.
On the other hand, Tilak Varma will lead the India A squad for the ODI series with Ruturaj Gaikwad as his deputy. The squad won’t feature the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, while Ishan Kishan will be part of the squad as wicketkeeper.
