COVID-19: Pakistan reports over 5,000 cases; infections cross 101,400

Pakistan reported over 5,000 cases for the second consecutive day as the number of confirmed cases crossed 101,400.

The death toll due to COVID-19 in the country has crossed 2,000 with Sindh and Punjab accounting for the most number of cases.

In Sindh, over 38,000 cases were reported with Punjab accounting for over 37,000 cases. In Islamabad, there have been nearly 5,000 cases.

In Balochistan there were 295 new COVID-19 cases taking the total number of cases to over 6,500 in the province even as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities declared wearing face masks was mandatory in public hospitals.

Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities had reported that it had conducted over 3,000 tests and the testing capacity had doubled.

Meanwhile, Sindh's health department has said that eighty per cent of coronavirus cases have been reported in Karachi which has over 30,000 cases.

Karachi reported over 1,400 cases on Sunday with authorities declaring that there were over 15,000 active COVID-19 cases.

The Abbottabad health authorities said that 40 per cent COVID-19 patients in the ICUs have recovered.
