An Indian journalist accompanying West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was caught stealing cutlery at a dinner party in Edinburgh, Scotland. The dinner was hosted by an industrialist on November 17 last year at an Edinburgh hotel. The journalist, who is around 60 years old, had at first denied the charges but the security footage caught him out. This was Mamata's maiden trip to Scotland. The meeting had been meant to attract investment. The chief minister had been accompanied by government officials, editors, and senior journalists. The journalist had also tried to put the stolen cutlery into the bag of a fellow journalist. He was finally charged with a 50-pound fine by the hotel. The other journalists had not mentioned the incident because it involved a colleague but, news reports said, one of them finally broke his silence to a Bengali tabloid.
