'India is the only country where people of all religions live together peacefully. There are 72 sects in Islam, all of them are found here, not even the Islamic countries have all. There’s no question of intolerance in the country', Rajnath Singh said.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday reacted to Naseeruddin Shah's comments, saying that India is one of the most tolerant countries in the world.

Singh added that people of all religions live together peacefully in India.

"India is the only country where people of all religions live together peacefully. There are 72 sects in Islam, all of them are found here, not even the Islamic countries have all. There’s no question of intolerance in the country", Rajnath Singh said.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that India was one of the safest nations and anyone feeling unsafe here shows a sign of "insecure mentality".

"If anyone feels unsafe in the safest nation then it's a sign of insecure mentality. Everyone gets the chance to put forth their views and express their art in this country. Therefore, such accusation is not correct".

In an online video message, critically-acclaimed actor Naseeruddin Shah had said that the death of a cow is being given more importance than the death of a police officer in some areas.

Shah expressed concern for his children due to the current situation in the country.

“I feel worried thinking about my children because they have not received any religious education. We chose not to give any religious education to our children because I believe that good or evil has nothing to do with religion,” Shah said.

“We did teach them about good and bad. We taught them what our beliefs are. Tomorrow if a mob surrounds them and asks them if they are Hindu or Muslim, they will have no answer," the veteran actor added.
