A bomb threat was reported on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Varanasi early Tuesday (May 28), following which immediate security measures were taken, according to an airport official cited by ANI news agency. "The aircraft has been moved to an isolation bay for investigation," the official stated.

Aviation security personnel and a bomb disposal team were rushed to the site, who conducted a thorough investigation to ensure safety and found no suspicious object. The officials stated the threat turned out to be a hoax.

The bomb threat was reported on IndiGo flight 6E2211 at Delhi's Indira Gandhi Airport. The flight was scheduled to depart at around 5 am but was delayed after a suspicious note was reportedly found in the lavatory of the plane.

ANI news agency quoting a senior CISF official said, "A tissue paper, with the word 'bomb' written on it, was found in the lavatory of Indigo flight 6E2211 from Delhi to Varanasi at Delhi airport, prompting security agencies to conduct an inspection but it turned out to be a hoax."

Later, in a statement, IndiGo confirmed the bomb threat incident.

"IndiGo flight 6E2211 operating from Delhi to Varanasi had received a specific bomb threat at Delhi airport. All necessary protocols were followed and the aircraft was taken to a remote bay as per guidelines by airport security agencies."

The airline also gave assurance that all the passengers were "safely evacuated via the emergency exits."

A viral video, reportedly confirmed by the aviation authorities, showed passengers exiting the flight.

"The flight is currently undergoing inspection. Post completion of all security checks, the aircraft will be positioned back in the terminal area," as per IndiGo's statement. It is unclear how many passengers were on the flight.

This incident comes days after bomb threats via emails targeted hospitals and schools in Delhi even as all were proven to be hoaxes.
