India's National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Sunday (May 26) took suo motucognisanceof a fire tragedy at a child care centre that ended up killing seven newborns in Delhi's Vivek Vihar. "The Commission has takencognisanceof the incident of fire in a hospital in Vivek Vihar area in Delhi and the death of newborn babies. A team of CrPC @NCPCR_ will visit the hospital today to investigate the incident. Official information will be shared after the team's visit," Priyank Kanoongo, the chief ofNCPCRwrote on social media website X.
The owner of New Born Baby Care Hospital, Naveen Khichi, was arrested on Sunday after the fire incident.

Preliminary investigation reveals the cause of the fire at the East Delhi nursing care was a blast in an oxygen cylinder.The nursing care also didn't haveaNo Objection Certificate (NOC)from the fire department.
Following the tragic incident, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj declared Monday that every hospital in the city,irrespectiveofthesize, will be forced to install operational fire safety equipment.

He also mentioned that a fire NOCwas not requiredfor hospitals made on the ground or first floors under previous rules. "But now we have decided every hospital be it ground or the first floor or even above it, fire safety equipment will be necessary. There should be a water sprinkling system and automatic smoke detection," the minister said at a press conference.
