Punjab minister lands AAP in fresh row after his video of flashing genitals at job seeker surfaces

Punjab minister lands AAP in fresh row after his video of flashing genitals at job seeker surfaces

Punjab's AAP minister sparks row after objectionable video of him flashing genitals to job seeker surfaces

In fresh trouble for Aam Aadmi Party, the party's Punjab Minister Balkar Singh found himself in hot waters after a purported video of him coercing a woman to perform sexual favours on the pretext of a job has surfaced on the internet.

The alleged video showed the AAP minister forcing a 21-year-old woman to strip on a video call where he flashed his private parts.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tajinder Bagga, who first shared the video, called for AAP and its supremo Arvind Kejriwal to sack Singh immediately.

Sharing the purported video, Bagga alleged, "A 21-year-old sister comes to Aam Aadmi Party's Punjab Minister Balkar Singh and says that she is in great need of a job. Balkar asks her to make video calls, forces her to take off her clothes, and masturbates."

Several other BJP leaders also shared the video on their respective social media handles and hit out at the AAP minister.

'AAP is Anti Aurat Party'

Calling AAP the 'Anti Aurat (Woman) Party', BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a sharp attack on Arvind Kejriwal for being silent over such matters and supporting ministers who were involved in such heinous crimes linking Swati Maliwal's alleged assault case.

The BJP leader took to his official X handle and wrote, "Characterless AAP. AAP = Anti Aurat Party. After Lal Chand Kataruchak now Balkar Singh, AAP MLA whose video of masturbating with a 21-year girl is viral. Even Congress is attacking AAP but remains silent on Swati Maliwal. Will Kejriwal & Mann sack Balkar Singh? Will Kejriwal open his mouth on Swati Maliwal?"

However, Singh has rebuffed all the allegations stating that he was not the person shown in the video and that the clip was morphed.

“I have no comments about it (the video), it is not known to me,” he told reporters.

All this comes amid Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal's allegations ofDelhi Chief Minister Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar assaulting her at the CM's residence earlier this month.

On Sunday (May 26), Swatitook to her social media handle and condemned AAP for allegedly orchestrating a "character assassination" campaign against her.

NCW takes cognisance of matter

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW), expressing grave concern over the allegations levelled against Singh, has sought a prompt and impartial investigation into the matter.

It released a statement saying, "The National Commission for Women is gravely disturbed by a Twitter post allegations against Punjab MLA Mr. Balkar Singh. The reported acts, if substantiated, constitute serious violations under IPC sections 354 and 354B, directly affronting a woman's dignity."

The statement further added that the chairperson of the body, Rekha Sharma vehemently condemned the purported behaviour, demanding urgent intervention from the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) into the matter.

"Rekha Sharma vehemently condemns such behaviour and calls for urgent intervention from the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure a prompt and impartial investigation. A comprehensive report to be submitted in 3 days," it added.
