1500 Indian nationals to travel to Israel as construction workers this month

Around 1500 Indian nationals are set to embark on a journey to Israel as construction workers during the month of April, according to the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The recruitment drive witnessed professional tests conducted in both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh starting from January 16th onwards.
The first batch of Indian workers left for the West Asian country on Tuesday (April 2). "Today we had a farewell event from the first batch of 60+ Indian construction workers going to Israel under the G2G agreement,"Israel Ambassador Naor Gilon announced in a social media post. He highlighted, "This is an outcome of hard work of many, including NSDC India. I’m sure that the workers become ‘ambassadors’ of the great P2P relations between India & Israel."
On November 15th, NSDC received a demand for 10,000 construction workers from Israel's Population and Immigration Authorities, spanning four job roles: Farworkers-3000, Iron Bending-3000, Plastering-2000, and Ceramic Tiling-2000. A professional test ensued, with 9727 candidates qualifying, set to receive a minimum salary of Rs 1.35 lakh, excluding other emoluments, according to NSDC.
Operating under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, NSDC has pointed that Air India will facilitate the transportation of Indian workers to Israel. Moreover, the corporation is in touch with the Israeli government to arrange additional charter flights, ensuring more candidates can travel swiftly. NSDC anticipates 15,000 more demands from Israel, with Maharashtra and Telangana expressing interest in participating in professional test drives.
Israel's interest in recruiting Indian workers spans three key areas: caregiving, construction, and agriculture. A framework agreement facilitating Indian travel to Israel was inked last year, further supplemented by additional protocols. Presently, India hosts 180,000 nationals in Israel, engaged in various sectors like caregiving.

The urgency in Israel's recruitment drive follows the October terror attack by Hamas, leading to the ban on Palestinian workers entering Israel. Notably, India has issued advisories for its nationals in Israel amid the Gaza conflict, urging relocation to safer areas within the country. The advisory says, "All Indian nationals in Israel, especially those working in or visiting border areas in the north and south, are advised to relocate to save areas withinIsrael."
The Indian mission in Israel has also provided a helpline number and email ID for Indians to seek assistance.
