At least seven people died after the wall of a private company collapsed on them at a construction site in the Indian state of&nbsp;Gujarat's Mehsana district on Saturday (Oct 12),&nbsp;India Today reported.&nbsp;

The incident happened near Jasalpur village in Kadi taluka&nbsp;of Mehsana district, Mehsana SP Tarun Duggal said.&nbsp;

The local officials&nbsp;have begun the rescue operation. Ambulance and police reached the spot for the safety of people.&nbsp;

Several labourers were digging a pit for an underground tank for Steel Inox Stainless Pvt Ltd factory in Jasalpur village when loose soil caved in and buried them alive, inspector Prahaladsinh Vaghela of Kadi police station said.&nbsp;

According to the administration, others who are currently trapped in the soil will be rescued alive.&nbsp;

1500 Indian nationals to travel to Israel as construction workers this month

A 34-year-old Indian national died in an accident at a construction site here, officials said.

The incident occurred in the afternoon on Sunday (Sept 24) in Pasir Ris Industrial Drive 1, when a steel stand that was supporting a cable drum gave way, the Ministry of Manpower said on Tuesday.

A cable drum is a round, cylindrical object used to carry wound-up wires and cables, reported The Straits Times.

The worker was taken to the Changi General Hospital, where he died of injuries, the officials said, adding that he was employed by Alliance E&amp;C.

Hong Hock Global, a construction and roadworks company occupying the site, has been ordered to stop all cable-laying work there.

"As a general safety measure, the cable drum and its supporting structure must be stable and secured during cabling works," the ministry said, adding that it is investigating the accident.

There have been at least 19 work-related deaths in Singapore so far in 2023.

In comparison, there were a total of 30 workplace fatalities in 2020, 37 in 2021 and 46 in 2022.

Senior Minister of State for Manpower Zaqy Mohamad said the maximum fine for breaches of certain workplace safety and health laws that could result in death or serious injury will be raised from SGD20,000 to SGD50,000 to further improve deterrence.&nbsp;

34-year-old Indian worker dies at Singapore construction site

A service lift in an under-construction housing society in India’s Greater Noida (West) crashed down with workers onboard, killing 8 of them. Four workers died yesterday and four others succumbed to injuries on Saturday.

The incident took place at 8:30 am on Friday at the under-construction Amrapali Dream Valley Society in Greater Noida, situated in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. At the time of the incident, there were nine workers in the service lift when they fell from the 14th floor of the society tower.

According to a police official, the service lift was carrying the workers from the ground floor and had a free fall from the 14th floor. The long-stalled project is being completed by the state-run&nbsp;National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC).

“Four workers had died after the incident on Friday. Five of them were admitted to the district hospital in a critical condition. Of these, four more have succumbed to the injuries while one worker is still undergoing treatment,” District Magistrate Manish Verma told PTI.

<h2>Bereaved families to be paid compensation of Rs 25 lakh</h2>

In view of the incident, the state-run housing body NBCC has announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh and an additional Rs 5 lakh from the court receiver.&nbsp;

However, the bereaved families are demanding a higher compensation of Rs 50 lakh and a thorough investigation into the incident.

An FIR has been lodged at the local Bisrakh Police Station and nine people booked for negligence and culpable homicide, among others, in connection with the case, according to police.

District Magistrate Manish Verma and Greater Noida Authority CEO Ravi Kumar NG had also rushed to the hospital to meet the injured on Friday. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had obtained information from the DM and talked about taking strict action against those involved in the incident.

Initially, the Port Authority did not release the names of the workers. But, they later identified them as Francisco Reyes, 41, and Fernando Lagunas Pereira, 28. However, they did not reveal any additional details about them. The flights to and from the airport weren't impacted, as per the Port Authority.&nbsp;

Making a suo motu statement in Indian parliament&#39;s upper house, foreign minister Sushma Swaraj said Saudi Arabia has also agreed to provide free medical facility and food to the Indian workers stranded in camps and also allow those eligible to seek re-employment with other companies. 
 
Swaraj said her deputy and minister of state for foreign affairs V K Singh was camping in Saudi Arabia since Tuesday evening and will return after formalising the arrangements for the Indian workers. 
 
&quot;I am happy to inform that the Saudi ruler has taken note of the plight of Indian workers. Saudi King has instructed the officials to resolve the issue in two days,&quot; she said. 
 
Saudi Arabia, Swaraj said, has agreed to the Indian government&#39;s request to grant exit visas to the stranded worker. It has also offered to transport the workers to India. &quot;Government of India will not have to spend a penny on that,&quot; she said. 
 
The nation has also permitted workers to take re-employment if other companies find them suitable, she said, adding that before departing, the Indian workers will register their claims of unpaid salaries and other dues with the labour office of Saudi Arabia. 
 
Indian embassy in Riyadh will follow up with the Saudi Arabia&#39;s labour office to get all the dues of workers cleared, she said. 
 
Swaraj said the Saudi ruler has also issued orders to provide free medical and food to Indian workers lodged in the camps apart from all civic amenities. 
 
Thanking the Saudi ruler, she said this was possible because of the personal and diplomatic relationship maintained by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Islamic nation. 
 
Leader of the opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad complimented the Indian and the Saudi governments for reaching a solution on the issue.&nbsp;
