IPL 2024: LSG skipper KL Rahul concedes being 'late to bring on Ravi Bishnoi' after loss vs Rajasthan Royals

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul conceded that he was too late to bring on Ravi Bishnoi during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 27. RR chased the relatively-high target of 197 in 19 overs with seven wickets in hand. Leg spinner Bishnoi, who has played all the nine games for LSG this season, bowled just one over in the innings.
"I couldn't find a good time to bring in Bishnoi, and I think it was a bit too late by the time I got him on. Obviously, the plan was to keep him at the back end and make sure if Rovman [Powell] and [Shimron] Hetmyer come in to bat, he's bowled well against them. That was the plan of how we wanted to use our leg spinners," Rahul said after the loss.
The skipper also explained using veteran leggie Amit Mishra, who was playing his first game of the season, ahead of Bishnoi.
"Mishra is an experienced player and we've been thinking about using him from the first game," Rahul said. "Today (Saturday) was the day where we felt like he could be useful against their batters in the middle [order] with how slow he bowls and the slightly larger boundary. That was the idea of using him and we were hoping to use Bishnoi in the latter half."
Despite losing two wickets for 11 runs in the first two overs, LSG did well to post 196/5 in 20 overs, thanks largely to Rahul (48-ball 76) and Deepak Hooda's (31-ball 50) 115-run partnership for the third wicket.

While chasing, RR were given a flying start by openers Jos Buttler (18-ball 34) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (18-ball 24) as the duo added 60 runs for the first wicket inside the powerplay. LSG struck back by removing both the openers in space of three balls and then sending back Riyan Parag 18 runs after.
Royals skipper Sanju Samson (33-ball 71 not out) and Dhruv Jurel (34-ball 52 not out) then took the team home with an unbeaten 121-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
