The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have retained five players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction scheduled for late next month. With the newly-inducted franchise unlikely to keep their captain and star India player KL Rahul following several discussions between all parties concerned, LSG decided on retaining Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi and two uncapped Indian players – Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni, leaving them with an option of Right to Match (RTM) card at the auction.

With the retention deadline (Oct 31) fast approaching, all ten participating teams are bound to submit their final list before that. After SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), LSG became the second team to submit their list. Unlike SRH, which made the retention cost for each player public, the exact amount of five players signed up by LSG remains unknown.

However, based on the retention slabs outlined by the IPL, INR 51 crore will be deducted from LSG’s auction purse. If the total amount paid to these five players exceeds this, more money will be deducted from the INR 120 crore purse allotted to all ten teams.&nbsp;

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Pooran would be LSG’s first choice, followed by Mayank and Bishnoi. The left-handed batter was LSG’s second-highest run-scorer the past season behind KL Rahul and also kept wickets in Rahul's absence, who was out with a niggle.

Considered the best T20 batter at present, Pooran remains LSG’s mainstay for the next season. "I couldn't find a good time to bring in Bishnoi, and I think it was a bit too late by the time I got him on. Obviously, the plan was to keep him at the back end and make sure if Rovman [Powell] and [Shimron] Hetmyer come in to bat, he's bowled well against them. The skipper also explained using veteran leggie Amit Mishra, who was playing his first game of the season, ahead of Bishnoi.

"Mishra is an experienced player and we've been thinking about using him from the first game," Rahul said. "Today (Saturday) was the day where we felt like he could be useful against their batters in the middle [order] with how slow he bowls and the slightly larger boundary. That was the idea of using him and we were hoping to use Bishnoi in the latter half."

Despite losing two wickets for 11 runs in the first two overs, LSG did well to post 196/5 in 20 overs, thanks largely to Rahul (48-ball 76) and Deepak Hooda's (31-ball 50) 115-run partnership for the third wicket.

While chasing, RR were given a flying start by openers Jos Buttler (18-ball 34) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (18-ball 24) as the duo added 60 runs for the first wicket inside the powerplay. LSG struck back by removing both the openers in space of three balls and then sending back Riyan Parag 18 runs after.

Talking about the batters, India's Suryakumar Yadav continues to be on the top of the list with 855 points. Behind him is Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan with 787 points. 2nd T20I: India hammer Australia in Thiruvananthapuram to go 2-0 up in five-match series

Gujarat Titans were sailing smoothly until two quick wickets derailed their innings only for skipper Hardik Pandya to unleash hell on Lucknow Super Giants' Ravi Bishnoi.

Titans were 102/4 after 17 overs with Pandya batting on 40 off 41 and David Miller on non-strike with 2 off 5. Ravi Bishnoi came on to ball the 18th over and gave away just two singles of the first two balls. Pandya, however, then switched the gears as he took Bishnoi to cleaners, hitting him for a four and a couple of sixes on the next three balls.&nbsp;

IPL 2023: GT skipper Hardik Pandya goes 4,6,6 against LSG's Ravi Bishnoi - WATCH

As Lucknow Super Giants tail-enders looked for the final run on the last ball of the match against RCB, Bangalore bowler Harshal Patel desperately tried to knock non-strike batsman out via MANKAD.

LSG's last batsman Avesh Khan came to the crease on the last ball with his team requiring one run to chase down a mammoth 213. Patel started running and LSH non-strike batsman Ravi Bishnoi started backing up and the bowler tried to take Bishnoi out but missed it. Had Patel managed to take the bails off, Bishnoi would have been out by a mile.

Patel then tried running-out the batsman and hit the stumps as well but it didn't count because as per the rules, the bowler can't run-out the non-striker after attempting to get him out backing-up. Have a look at the video here:

While LSG eventually won the thriller on the last ball by one wicket, it was Nicholas Pooran who turned the game on its head as he bludgeoned his way to the fastest fifty of IPL 2023. Pooran came in to bat in the 11th over of the chase and smoked his second ball only to a huge six. He departed on the last ball of 17th over after adding 84 with Ayush Badoni for 6th wicket, leaving LSG with nominal 24 runs to chase in 18 balls.

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis, during the match against Lucknow Super Giants, clobbered a monstrous six of 115 meters at Chinnaswamy stadium.

LSG leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, having given just 19 runs in his previous three over, came on to bowl his final over in the 15th over of the inning. The first two balls were decent from Bishnoi, giving away just one run. Aakash Chopra, former Indian opener-turned-commentator-cum-expert, also joined the bandwagon and feels Yuzvendra Chahal is the only 'legit wicket-taking option'.

"You have picked three spinners - an offspinner, a legspinner and a left-arm spinner. So you have picked different-different options but Yuzi Chahal is the only legit wicket-taking option in T20 cricket," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

You can see the numbers for the last 12 months, IPL included for both of them - Axar and Ravichandran Ashwin. Being disappointed with Bishnoi's omission from&nbsp;the main squad, he stated, "Ravi Bishnoi was a tempting option available to you. You are not thinking about Kuldeep at all, which is slightly disappointing, but he could also have been a wicket-taking option. But you didn't think about either of them."

"It will be very interesting whether you will be able to play two out of the three spinners in the XI. Will you be able to play either Axar or Ravi (Ashwin) along with Yuzi Chahal - that’s going to be a big one," Chopra added.
