Israel launches attacks on Syria's Damascus, at least 15 killed

Israel launches attacks on Syria's Damascus, at least 15 killed

Israeli strikes in Syria kills 15 people

Israel carried out airstrikes in Syria on Thursday (Nov 14), targeting several buildings and command centres belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said.

The military said that the strikes are a "significant blow" to the Gaza Strip-based Palestinian group and its operatives.

Syria's Defence Ministry said that the strikes killed 15 people in the upscale Mazzeh district of Damascus and on the outskirts of the capital.

“The Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan [Heights], targeting residential buildings in the Mazzeh neighborhood of Damascus and the Qudsaya area in the Damascus countryside, killing 15 people and injuring 16 others,” the ministry said.

Israeli warplanes have been silently launching attacks in Syria for years now to prevent Iranian proxies like Lebanon-based group Hezbollah and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, who are operating from there.

“We are conducting deep strikes and striking frequently in Syria and along the Syria-Lebanon border to prevent weapons transfers to Hezbollah,” Herzi Halevi, the Israeli military chief of staff, said on Tuesday.

Lebanese response to ceasefire could arrive in a day

Lebanon could respond to the ceasefire proposal sent to Beirut from the US in the next 24 hours, Channel 12 reported.
