In the tragic Grenfell tower fire, many lives were saved because of Muslim residents who were awake for Sehri (pre-dawn meal) during the holy month of Ramzaan.
Muslim residents observing Ramzaan were the first ones to notice the smoke coming out of the seventh floor of the Grenfell tower, media reports said.
Waiting to have their pre-dawn meal, Sehri, the residents came out in a frenzy and began knocking on their neighbours' doors to alert them of the imminent danger.
No fire alarms or water sprinklers had gone off till then, an eyewitness said.
A number of local mosques, churches and Sikh templesopened their doors to help those who were evacuated.
Seventeen people have died in the fire so far. The death toll in the incident is likely to rise further.
