"The intelligence community will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was a result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan," it said.

There has been large scale speculation that the virus spread after it was accidentally spread in a Wuhan laboratory with several experts attacking China and asking it give its side and open a worldwide investigation.

The US, Germany, Australia and the UK have consistently requested for a transparent probe by Chinaeven as President Trump blamed the WHO for mismanaging the crisis and said the UN body has a "China bias".

US and China have been at loggerheads ever since the virus became a worldwide pandemic with the Chinese foreign ministry accusing the US military for spreading the virus in Wuhan, with the US hitting back and accusing China of not coming clean.
