Uber bill beats rent in Bengaluru: Indian woman shocked after cab fare surpasses half her rent

Bengaluru, India's IT hub, is famous not just for its booming job market but also for its infamous traffic, which often drives up cab fares.

One woman found that her Uber costs exceeded half of her monthly rent. She took to social media and posted about the city's high expenses, noting that CRED's feature helped her realise this.

“I can’t believe my Uber expenses are more than half the amount I pay as rent in Bengaluru. For me, this has got to be the most useful feature by CRED till date!” the woman posted on X with a screenshot of her Uber transactions.

According to the screenshot, the woman made 74 Uber transactions between July 1 and 25, totalling a staggering ₹16,600 ($198.23). The post, since being shared on July 25, has been making rounds of social media because of its sheer relatability.

“At this point, maybe it's better if you buy yourself a vehicle. Even monthly EMIs would be far lesser,” a user advised the woman. "Now I know why everyone says walking is good for health," joked another user.

“You deserve a loyalty card from Uber,” one user commented.

"You can get a Baleno or an i10 on EMI at that same rate,” a netizen suggested.

"My god, how do you manage to look at this number? I would think twice before even ordering a cab from Ola/Uber. I get a Rapido bike taxi on a daily basis for both ways of commuting. I don’t have the heart to look at the credit card statement to check the cost," said another user.

In a separate incident, a netizen posted a screenshot ofGoogle Mapson Thursday (July 25), comparing the travel timebetween the Indian city's Brigade Metropolis and KR Puram Railway Station, a distance of around sixkm.

However, the app showed that driving that small distancewould take 44 minutes while walking would surprisingly be a bit faster, at42 minutes.

“This happens only in Bangalore,” he saidon X along with the screenshot.
