Murder

People intruding into someone else's personal space is not a new thing. Questions like, when are you getting married, when are you having a child, why are you single, etc. are commonplace across the world. One such question proved deadly for a man in Indonesia, quite literally. A 45-year-old man killed his 60-year-old neighbour because he used to constantly ask him why was he not married at this age, police said.

Parlindungan Siregar attacked his neighbour Asgim Irianto with a piece of wood in North Sumatra on July 29. Irianto was a retired civil servant, the region’s Assistant Police Commissioner (AKP) Maria Marpaung said. Asgim’s wife told the police that Siregar entered their house at around 8 pm and started attacking her husband without any warning. Irianto then ran out of the house but fell down after being hit on his head. Siregar didn't stop and continued to hit him. The neighbours intervened and stopped the attack. They took the victim to a hospital, but he died on the way.

Marpaung revealed that during interrogation, Siregar said that he wanted to kill Irianto because he was hurt by his constant questioning about his marital status. Reports suggest that the two did not share a cordial relationship and often had fights over trivial issues. Detik Jogja reports that they argued with each other when their chickens entered the other's coop.

What came first, chicken or egg?

Arguments over trivial matters escalating and leading to grave consequences have been reported from Indonesia before as well. In July, a man stabbed his friend after they got into an argument over the riddle which came first, the chicken or the egg. The man stabbed Kadir Markus at least 15 times.
