Woman finds out two-year-old son isn't biologically hers, files for divorce

We often come across stories where a man finds out through a DNA test that a child he thought was his, was actually fathered by someone else. This is also the premise of the medical condition known as Heteropaternal Superfecundation wherein one set of twins has two different fathers. Very few such cases have been reported worldwide, including one where a man divorced his wife after finding out that one of the twins wasn't his. Now a woman is making headlines on Reddit after posting that her two-year-old son isn't actually hers.

This strange matter has people chattering on the internet since it is uncommon for a woman to find that the child she is rearing isn't hers. A Reddit user named ThrowRA-3xbetrayal claims that a DNA test showed that while her husband was the father of their son, she wasn't the biological mother. The woman says that around six years back she found out that due to a medical condition, she cannot carry a child to full term. So they started looking for surrogates. She started working multiple jobs to arrange for the money.

How the surrogacy unfolded

This is when one of her friends from college offered to carry the child for them. "My close friend since college who'd already had 2 kids of her own, offered to serve as the surrogate for us to cut down on costs. After two disappointing IVF sessions that did not result in pregnancy, she became pregnant on the 3rd try and carried a boy to term for us,” ThrowRA-3xbetrayal wrote.

The Reddit user says that she noticed that her husband and her friend had been hanging out together in her absence. “My friend and my husband started talking more and I would sometimes come home from my weekend job to find her already hanging out at our house when my husband was there,” ThrowRA-3xbetrayal wrote.

But she didn't read too much into it and says she was "grateful to have someone helping us have a child.”

Eye colour, blood type and DNA test

However, her son's eye colour made her suspicious. She and her husband have blue eyes but the child has brown eyes. A doctor did some blood tests after which she found out that her son’s blood type is B+. The boy's father’s blood type is O+ while she is A+, and according to the doctor, it was “biologically impossible” for her son to have that blood type. She got a DNA test done to find out if the fertility clinic had made a big fumble. The results showed that her husband was the biological father but she was not the biological mother.

“Then my husband confessed that he'd slept with my friend (our surrogate) on a few different occasions during our struggle to have her get pregnant with our embryos,” ThrowRA-3xbetrayal wrote.

The woman was left devastated and decided to divorce her husband and give up parental rights to the child. Redditors are backing her decision, with one of them saying that she should sue the surrogate for taking her money. "I would speak to a solicitor about suing her for your money back. She knew that if she was having sex then there was always a chance that the child was biologically hers,” a commenter wrote.
