'Monkey attack' saves 6-year-old girl from sexual assault in UP's Baghpat, accused on the run

A 6-year-old girl was saved from an alleged rape attempt by a group of monkeys in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat city. The parents of the girl, a UKG class student, registered a complaint against the unidentified accused, who has been charged under the POCSO Act and is on the run, police said on Sunday (Sep 22).
As per the girl’s parents, an unknown man tried to lure their child to an abandoned house on Saturday (Sep 21), where he took off her clothes. When the man tried to sexually assault the girl, a troop of monkeys aggressively rushed towards him, which forced the man to leave the minor and flee from the scene.
Upon reaching home, the frightened child narrated her ordeal to the parents and informed them how she the perpetrator ran away when some angry monkeys came around.

“My daughter was playing outside when the accused took her away. The man could be seen in nearby CCTV footage walking a narrow lane with my daughter. He is yet to be identified though. He also threatened my child that he would kill me...My daughter would have been dead by now if the monkeys had not intervened.”
Baghpat Circle officer Harish Bhadoria told Time Of India: "We've heard about the incident involving monkeys and are investigating the matter. Following the parents' complaint, an FIR was registered under BNS sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) and the POCSO Act. More sections will be added if needed. We're trying to identify and nab the accused."

The accused was captured in CCTV cameras installed in the village, which clearly showed him taking away the girl with him. While less is known about the perpetrator, police said he is a resident of another village.
Police further said that the man first took the girl to the street near a religious building and then to the abandoned house, where tried to rape her. The girl also told her parents that he threatened to kill her and her family members if she resisted him.
Police are investigating the incident currently.
