Walter Cole, better known as the iconic drag queen who performed for decades as Darcelle XV and a fearless advocate for Portland’s LGBTQ+ community, has died of natural causes in Portland, Oregon. He was 92.

Darcelle, who died Thursday, was crowned the world’s oldest working drag performer in 2016 by the Guinness Book of World Records and was regaling audiences until the very end. As a performer, Darcelle was known for hosting the longest-running drag show on the U.S. West Coast. Off stage,
Cole, an Army veteran, championed LGBTQ+ rights and charitable work in Portland.

The nightclub that Darcelle opened more than 50 years ago in downtown Portland, Darcelle XV Showplace, posted a statement on Facebook expressing grief and asking for privacy and patience.
The club, which had become a Portland cultural institution by the 1970s, was listed in 2020 on the National Register of Historic Places, making it the first site in Oregon to be nominated specifically for its significance in LGBTQ+ history. In the venue’s early days in the 1970s and 1980s, it was seen as taboo and protesters picketed outside, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported.

It provided a lifeline for many in the city’s LGBTQ community, including Cole, he told the newspaper in a 2010 interview. Cole preferred female pronouns when performing, but told The Oregonian he preferred male pronouns off-stage.

“If I hadn’t admitted who I was, I’d probably be dead now,” he told the paper. “I’d be sitting on a couch retiring from ... management. Not for me.”

“She touched the lives of so many, not only through her performances but also through her fearless community advocacy and charitable works,” said Todd Addams, the interim executive director of Basic Rights Oregon, speaking of Darcelle. “She was nothing short of an icon.”

Writer Susan Stanley described the club a place of “warmth and affection” where performers were “glittering in sequins and satin and a shimmering froth of feathers,” in what’s credited as the first profile of Darcelle XV, published in Willamette Week in 1975.

When speaking of Darcelle, Cole, a gay man, referred to his persona in the third person using female pronouns. “I’m an entertainer with a capital E,” Cole told Stanley. “Darcelle is a character — like in a play — and I work very hard at her.”

Stanley wound up briefly working at the club and becoming Cole’s close friend. She described the performer not only as a talented artist, who also sewed many of the club’s costumes, but as a caring person deeply invested in the LGBTQ+ community and the fight against the social stigma of the time.

“(Darcelle) was just a very, very nurturing person. She encouraged other guys to perform and get out of their shells,” Stanley told the AP in a phone interview.

After decades of advocacy by LGBTQ+ activists organizing for civil rights and freedoms, Stanley said she was saddened to see how drag has become so polarized in today’s political climate.

“It bespeaks a really, really big misunderstanding,” she said. “Politicians wanting to step back decades in attitudes … it’s mystifying and horrifying to me at the same time.”

Cole was born in 1930 and raised in Portland’s Linnton neighbourhood. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces and was discharged in the late 1950s, according to the club’s website, which says he used money he received from the military to start his first business.

After dabbling in a coffee store and a jazz club, Cole purchased the space that would become the Darcelle XV Showcase in 1967.

Two years later, he had developed the “alter ego” named Darcelle and came out as gay, according to a profile on the club’s website.

He left his wife and began a relationship with his artistic director. During the 1970s, the Showplace became a popular destination for cabaret and drag performances.

In the lawsuit, seven police officers, including four deputies, two sergeants, and one detective, have accused the rapper of inappropriately using their footage.

In the music video and social media posts, the rapper has used the footage of the August 2022 raid without their consent. In the complaint, they said that has caused them "emotional distress, embarrassment, ridicule, loss of reputation, and humiliation."

Last year in August, police officers conducted a raid on Afroman’s residence as part of an investigation into drug possession and trafficking, as well as kidnapping, as per the court documents. Police found no solid evidence against the rapper.

The police officers are demanding to take down the video and post from all the platforms and are also seeking profits made from the song, music videos, live event tickets, as well as from his brands which includes beer, marijuana, and T-shirts.

Reacting to the new lawsuit, the rapper revealed that he's planning to countersue for the unlawful raid and the undeniable damage that they had made on his clients, family, career and property.

In the Instagram post, the rapper wrote, 'A racist judge signed a fictitious false warrant, lying on the warrant, accusing me of kidnapping and drug trafficking. The warrant put the Adams county sheriff in a position to attempt to kill me. After the Adams County Sheriff. Burglarized vandalized and destroyed my property. They became thieves and stole my money. After they stole my money they became criminals. After they became criminals they lost their right of privacy.''

He also accused the police officer of vandalising and stealing his money. He wrote further, ''Criminals caught in the act, of vandalizing and stealing money. My video footage is my property. I used it to identify the criminals who broke into my house, and stole my money. I used it to identify criminals, who broke into my house, stole my money and disconnected my home security system. I use my footage of my property to raise money to pay for the damages they done and to identify the criminals operating inside of the sheriff department that stole my money Ramsack my house and disconnected my video cameras.''

Concluding the message, he wrote that he's planning to counter sue, ''for the unlawful raid, money being stolen, and for the undeniable damage this had on my clients family, career and property.''

It's the holiest month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan, when Muslims across the globe will be observing fast, even in space. Yes, you read it right. UAE astronaut Sultan al-Neyadi arrived at the space station on March 3 and the only question boggling him is how will he be ending his fast, as he sees 16 sunsets daily at the space station.

You must be wondering why 16. Here, is the answer.

For centuries, a setting sun has signalled the end of fasting with delicious meals. But what if the sun's clockwork changes as it does for astronauts riding aboard the International Space Station? The orbiting laboratory whips around the Earth at the speed of 27,600 kilometres per hour (27,600 miles per hour) giving the traveller 16 sunrises and sunsets each day. Dizzy right? Well, it's true.

'It's not compulsory'

Sultan al-Neyadi is one of the few Muslim astronauts who have travelled to space, and his mission will end in five months. He then will be the first astronaut from UAE to complete a long-duration stay in space.

While al-Neyadi is in space, Muslims on Earth will be observing fast in Ramadan and till the time he'll return, they will celebrate two festivals — Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

At a press conference before his space travel, al-Neyadi had said that six months is a long duration for a mission, which is a great responsibility. He added that since an 'astronaut' fits in the definition of 'traveller,' it excuses him from fasting during Ramadan.

"It's not compulsory if you're sick. So in that regard — anything that can jeopardise the mission or maybe put the crew member at risk — we’re actually allowed to to eat sufficient food to prevent any escalation of lack of food or nutrition or hydration."

He added that he'll wait and see how it goes.

Religion in Space:

Back in 1968, during NASA's Apollo 8 mission, astronauts read Genesis, the first book of the Bible, on their way to orbit the moon. Buzz Aldrin, who was with Neil Armstrong during their first landing in 1969 also took communion from the Eagle lunar lander, by taking a sip of wine and a bite of bread blessed by a Presbyterian minister back in Houston, just before taking their first steps on the moon.

In 2007, Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, a Malaysian astronaut became the first practising Muslim to stay on the International Space Station and the Islamic National Fatwa Council of Malaysia issued special guidelines for him and other future Muslim astronauts.

The council also said that though his flight coincided with Ramadan, he can postpone until he returned to Earth or he could fast in accordance with the time zone of the place from which he had launched.

Among other religious observances that have taken place on board, include Christmas celebrations, Jewish holidays and Hanukkah.

After a huge gap of 30 years, Duran Duran will reunite with former bandmate Andy Taylor, and they will record their new album in three decades. The reunion came after Andy's terminal prostate cancer diagnosis revelation last year.

The lead singer of the band, Simon Le Bon, will work on the tracks with Andy at the guitarist's studio in Ibiza. Andy's cancer diagnosis was made public in November of last year when he skipped the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

As per the Mirror, John Taylor said: “When he dropped the bomb two days before the Hall of Fame, it was really shocking and terribly sad. We’re working on an album right now that is going to be coming out at the end of the year and he’s playing guitar.''

“Had he come to LA and just gone on the TV show, we probably wouldn’t have even thought about it. That [the album] happened as a result of this. There’s a lot of cover songs on the album, songs meaningful to us when we were kids. So having him be a part of that project is great.”

John added further, “LeBon is flying to Ibiza to work with Andy. I kind of wish I was there. I think it’ll be great.''

The other members of the band are Nick Rhodes, 60, and Roger Taylor, 62.

At the Rock and Roll induction ceremony, the band read out the letter from Andy which revealed that he was suffering from stage four prostate cancer.

'Just over four years ago I was diagnosed with stage four metastatic prostate cancer,' the letter read.

''Many families have experienced the slow burn of this disease and of course we are no different; so I speak from the perspective of a family man but with profound humility to the band, the greatest fans a group could have and this exceptional accolade.''

''I have the Rodgers and Edwards of doctors and medical treatment that until very recently allowed me to just rock on. Although my current condition is not immediately life-threatening there is no cure.''

Indian actress Sonali Kulkarni faced major backlash for her "lazy women" remark. Days after she got brutally trolled for her comments on modern Indian women, Sonali has finally issued an apology.

On Sunday, she shared a long note on her Instagram account in which she apologised to all the Indian women for "unknowingly" hurting their sentiments.

Her note reads: “Dear all, I’m overwhelmed with the feedback I’m receiving. I would like to thank all of you, especially the entire press and media for the extremely mature conduct of connecting with me. Being a woman myself, my intention was not to hurt other women. In fact, I have extensively expressed myself time and again in support of us and what is it being a woman. I’m grateful to all of you for reaching out to me personally to appreciate or to criticise. Hope we will be able to have more open exchange of thoughts.”

She continued, "In my capacity I am trying to think, support and share warmth not only with women, but with the entire mankind. It will be only strengthening if we women with our vulnerabilities and wisdom shine through as fair and able beings. If we are inclusive and empathetic, we will be able to create a healthier, happier place to be.”

Concluding the letter, Sonali wrote that she's apologising from the bottom of her heart, “Having said that, if unknowingly, I may have caused pain, I want to apologise from the bottom of my heart. I do not thrive upon headlines neither do I want to be the center of sensational situations. I’m a diehard optimist and I strongly believe that life indeed is beautiful. Thanks for your patience and support. I have learned a lot from this incident.”
Kulkarni said, “Bharat mein bahut saari ladkiyan aalsi hain (in India a lot of women are lazy). They want a boyfriend or husband, who earns well, owns a house and gets regular increments. But, in the middle of this, women forget to take a stand for themselves. Women don’t know what will they do. I urge everyone to bring up such women in your houses that are able and can earn for themselves. Who can say that yes, we want a new fridge in the house, you pay for half of it, I will pay the other half.”

She added, “I think when boys turn 18, they have this pressure on them that the studies and fun are about to get over and now you have to earn. I feel like crying for my brothers and my husband. He got selected from the campus interview when he was all of 20 and he started earning.”

I urge everyone to bring up such women in your houses that are able and can earn for themselves. Who can say that yes, we want a new fridge in the house, you pay for half of it, I will pay the other half.” She added, “I think when boys turn 18, they have this pressure on them that the studies and fun are about to get over and now you have to earn. I feel like crying for my brothers and my husband. He got selected from the campus interview when he was all of 20 and he started earning.”

Sonali Kulkarni apologises for calling Indian women 'lazy': 'If unknowingly, I may have caused pain...'

Mysterious streaks of light were seen across the night sky in the United States’ Sacramento area late Friday, shocking those who were in the midst of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day who went on to post videos of the incident on social media, said a report by the Associated Press. The 40-second video was captured by Jaime Hernandez who was at the King Cong Brewing Company in Sacramento, California celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and was among a group of people who witnessed the surprising sight and quickly started filming. In an email to AP, Hernandez said, “Mainly, we were in shock, but amazed that we got to witness it. None of us had ever seen anything like it.” Subsequently, the owner of the King Cong Brewing Company posted the video shot by Hernandez on their Instagram page calling it “crazy fireworks” which flew over the brewery.
Actor Djimon Hounsou has definitely come a long way in his life. However, his journey has not been a bed of roses. While speaking to The Guardian, Djimon, who was nominated for an Academy Award in 2002 for In America and then again in 2006 for Blood Diamond, said he "felt seriously cheated," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

"Today, we talk so much about the Oscars being so white, but I remember there was a time where I had no support at all: no support from my own people, no support from the media, from the industry itself," he confessed."It felt like: `You should be happy that you`ve got nominated,` and that`s that," he added.

Hounsou started to make his name in Hollywood when he landed a role in Steven Spielberg`s 1997 film Amistad. But he explained that he started to grow frustrated with the limited parts that were being offered to Black actors.

To this day, he said he`s "still struggling to try to make a dollar" in the industry. He continued, "I`ve come up in the business with some people who are absolutely well off and have very little of my accolades. So I feel cheated, tremendously cheated, in terms of finances and in terms of the workload as well."

Since his Oscar-nominated films, the majority of the roles Hounsou has played include smaller and bit parts in movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, Furious 7, Charlie`s Angels and a handful of projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Universe.
"I`ve gone to studios for meetings and they`re like: `Wow, we felt like you just got off the boat and then went back [after Amistad]. We didn`t know you were here as a true actor,`" he said.

"When you hear things like that, you can see that some people`s vision of you, or what you represent, is very limiting. But it is what it is. It`s up to me to redeem that."Hounsou is now back in theatres as a wizard in Warner Bros. Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Good Burger 2 confirmed! Here's everything you should know about the sequel

The 95th Academy Awards were dominated by RRR's viral song ''Naatu Naatu'' - starting from the host Jimmy Kimmel's monologue to the live performance and at last, the big win. At the Dolby Theatres in Los Angeles, the original singers of the Telugu hit, Rahul Sipligunj and Kala Bhairava, gave an outstanding performance of the song, which was performed by a bunch of American dancers.

Despite all the crazy reactions to the historic performance, it also faced backlash from a group of people, who were left disappointed after not seeing their favourite stars performing the signature step on the global stage.

However now, the lead actor of the film RRR, Ram Charan, who is now back in India, has reacted to the mindblowing performance of ''Naatu Naatu'' as he revealed that he was 100 per cent ready to perform the song on the Academy stage.

Speaking at India Today conclave, the actor said, “I was 100 per cent ready to get that call but I truly don’t know what happened.''

“I have done it so many times and on so many stages, now it’s for us to relax and enjoy the show and see somebody else perform for India. I feel it is no longer our song, it is India’s song. It’s the people who have taken us to the carpet,” he said at the event.

Further praising the dance performance, the 37-year-old added, ''But let’s not talk about it because the troupe who did it there, they were fantastic and they did a better job than us.''

With this statement, Ram Charan has seemingly denied the claims made by the Academy organisers that Ram Charan and Jr. NTR was asked to perform on stage but the actors refused to do so.

Raj Kapoor producer of Oscars 2023, said in The Academy interview, “Originally, the two leads were going to be the stars of the number alongside the singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. The show was very instrumental in helping secure working visas for their team to be able to come to the U.S. to be a part of the performance."

“In late February, we were informed that Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr. would be attending the Oscars, but they did not feel comfortable performing the live number on stage. The change was brought on because of their other professional commitments and the limited amount of time to rehearse," he added.

Is Elon Musk running ‘sweatshops’? Former manager claims Tesla refused to install AC for workers

In the world of fashion, anything is possible! Time and again we have seen how luxury brands have become the talk of the internet, first for their whooping price and second for the unusual things that they came up with - whether it's their cabbage jacket or common grandpa shorts with blue-lining. However, now adding to the list is Chanel's pre-owned silver-plated shopping basket.

The white and black basket bag, which is made with imported leather and silver chains, will come at the exorbitant price of $104,663 (Rs 86 lakh approx). The second-hand Chanel basket, which was launched in 2014 as part of its AW14 (Autumn/Winter 2014) collection, is available to buy on the Farfetch website.

As per the details mentioned on the side, ''Chanel created its own supermarket to showcase one of the brand's most memorable runways. Forming part of the said collection is this basket bag, wrapped with Maison's signature leather and chain-link straps.''

The highlights of this shopping bag are that it is made up of leather and silver-plated chains and the main charm of this bag is the Chanel logo.

Forming part of the said collection is this basket bag, wrapped with Maison's signature leather and chain-link straps.'' The highlights of this shopping bag are that it is made up of leather and silver-plated chains and the main charm of this bag is the Chanel logo.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has once again become the butt of ridicule and this one is "off the leash". A video posted by a TikTok user shows the British PM walking his dog without a leash in London's Hyde park. This happened in spite of a notice board specifying, "dogs must be kept on leads."
