Today, technology enables us to always stay connected to our loved ones and our peers. While this is largely seen as a positive, an often ignored negative of this incessant connection is that so many of us end up working overtime without even realising it. We end up "staying in touch" and responding to work-related queries not just via email but also through instant messaging applications like WhatsApp. Nevertheless, this doesn't get considered as work, in or outside of work hours; so naturally it isn't accepted as overtime if it's done in your personal time. However, a court in China has passed a ruling that may serve to change this narrative.

The court ruled that the time spent by employees on messaging app for work-related purposes outside of office hours can be counted as overtime.

In a case brought by an employee who claimed to have worked more than 2,000 hours of overtime in one year, mostly due to responding to messages on the app, the court ruled in the employee's favour and instructed the employer to pay for the additional hours worked. As per a Times UK report, the employee who is only known by her family name Li has been awarded around $4,365 or 30,000 yuan for work outside of office hours.

Her employer reportedly argued that Li's claims of overtime were unfounded and said that the work did not qualify as such. They said that employees only had to reply to "occasional questions" from staff.

The ruling is seen as a victory for workers' rights in China, where labour laws as per the report are often poorly enforced, and employees are vulnerable to exploitation.

Reportedly, in China, long working hours are common and on top of that, workers are often expected to be available 24/7 through messaging apps like WhatsApp or its Chinese equivalent, WeChat.

As per the report, the ruling may have implications for other Chinese companies that similarly rely heavily on messaging apps for work-related communication. This may prompt them to re-evaluate their communication policies. Furthermore, the judgement has raised questions on the legal status of apps like WhatsApp and WeChat and whether they should be subject to the same overtime rules as traditional forms of work.

Shaakuntalam Twitter Review: Here's what netizens have to say about Samantha's film

Britney Spears' memoir is all set to hit the stands this fall. However, before the release of her tell-all memoir, sources revealed more inside details about the book, as they called the pop star's book a "groundbreaking instant bestseller," as per Page Six.

Britney has revealed and addressed some of her life's biggest secrets in the yet-to-be-titled memoir with the help of acclaimed novelist and journalist, Sam Lansky.

One source, revealing more about the book, said, "Britney’s book is a story of triumph. It will cover her most vulnerable moments, her childhood – being a little girl with big dreams – her breakup with Justin Timberlake, the moment she shaved her head, and her battle with her family over her conservatorship.''

''It is also a story of survival, finding her way out of the crippling conservatorship to finding happiness with her husband Sam Ashgari.''

Britney has been in the spotlight for more than 20 years for her much-publicised 13-year conservatorship battle, during which her personal and financial affairs were controlled by her father, Jamie Spears. Apart from her court battle, Spears has been in the news for her love life, her short flings, and her alleged mental health struggles, among other things. Sources have also told Page Six that ''Britney's book is brutally honest''.

The source said, “Britney’s book is brutally honest and from the heart. No stone is left unturned. Its truly a female empowerment story – her taking control of her life.”

The second source added: “This book is a gift….There are parts of this book that every person—particularly every woman—can relate to and feel less alone. She transforms joy and pain into something transcendent: art.''

In February 2022, Page Six revealed that Britney has landed a $15 million book deal. And her publisher Simon & Schuster is said to be “thrilled” with the memoir, which is now complete and going through the final procedure before the big release ahead of the holidays.

A former teen idol has come forward with a shocking allegation against the late Johnny Kitagawa, the founder and president of Johnny & Associates. Kauan Okamoto has revealed that he was among the multiple boys who were sexually abused by Kitagawa.

On Wednesday, during a press conference, the Japanese-Brazilian singer made the shocking revelation against Kitagawa, as he revealed that he abused him multiple times over a four-year period when he was 15 years old.

“I believe that almost all of the boys who went to stay at Johnny’s place were victims,” Okamoto told reporters at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan, as per The Guardian. “If you stayed there, you were unlikely to evade him. I would say 100 to 200 boys stayed there on a rotation basis during my four years at the agency.”

A day later, Kitagawa gave Okamoto 10,000 yen (about US$75) without telling him any reason.

Okamoto alleged that at least 100 boys stayed at the business mogul's home and he believed all of them had been abused. While he's no plans to take legal action against the company, his only motive behind speaking out is to inspire other victims.

“I hope other victims will also come forward, all of them,'' he said during the press conference.

For the unversed, Johnny passed away in the year 2019 at the age of 87.

Reacting to the shocking allegation, Johnny & Associates said in a statement released to Japanese public broadcaster NHK, per CNN, “Since the change in management following the death of the former president in 2019, we have developed a trustworthy, highly transparent organizational structure and systems that are in line with the times.''

“The entire company will continue to work together to ensure thorough compliance without exception by management and employees, and strengthen the governance system with the cooperation of neutral experts,” the statement reads.

Kitagawa has launched and trained some of Japan's biggest male idols since the 60s and still his company remains one of Japan's most powerful agencies. SMAP, Arashi and Kinki Kids are some of the biggest stars produced by the agency.

Over the years, several serious allegations have been labelled against Kitagawa. In the year 1999, Shukan Bunshun, a weekly magazine, shocked the entire world as they released a series of articles revealing the misconduct done by Kitagawa.

The articles were based on the interviews of the boys, who had been sexually abused by him. However, Kitagawa was never charged with a crime.

The multi-talented actress has proved her acting prowess in many critically acclaimed shows and movies in the past, like Zoya Akhtar’s Made in Heaven, Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal to Siyaasat, and The Empire, among others. Currently, Shankar is getting rave reviews for her performance as India's first female prime minister, Indira Gandhi, in the second season of the much-loved show Rocket Boys.

Recently, Charu sat down with WION and talked about playing the role of Indira Gandhi, what it was like to portray the role of a politician for the first time, the hour-long makeup she had to go undergo everytime for the role.

Here are the excerpts from the interview:

WION: In the second season of Rocket Boys, you played the role of Indira Gandhi. How did the role come to you?

Charu: It was challenging because not only is Mrs Indira Gandhi a politician, but she's one of the most iconic politicians of modern India. And she remains a very powerful figure even so many decades after her death. You know, people still remember her. They remember what she looked like, how she spoke, even how she dressed, and how she inspired women. She was an icon, not just a politician.

It was an interesting point in her life that I got to portray in the show, and I'm really grateful for that opportunity. It was very interesting to think of her because she was so legendary that sometimes we forget that at some point she was a girl, a woman, and vulnerable. And so it was fascinating for me to play her on the screen.

WION: What prompted you to say yes to this role?

Charu: Well, how could I possibly say no to a role like this? This is the kind of role any actor dreams of, and I was just so lucky to have had this opportunity. And I will forever be grateful to the makers of Rocket Boys for not just casting me as Indira Gandhi but also giving her this beautiful journey in the show. Because they have played her journey as she evolves and becomes stronger, and so does India's nuclear program because she's the one pushing it. So their journey is kind of interlinked and so beautifully interplayed. I was just blown away by the storytelling of the Rocket Boys.

WION: How did you prepare for the role and the historic scenes that was recreated in the show?

Charu: If you do a quick Google search, you will find a lot of videos and recordings of her interviews. But we do not really know what her demeanour was in her private life, that much is up to the imagination. So those were also quite fun recreating because, in the show, I get to play both. There is one public part that everyone knows, and there were close door talks with the trusted people, with her father, Jawaharlal Nehru, perhaps one of the most humane portions we see in the show was Nehru's death. It was a very beautifully shot sequence of the Rocket Boys.

And full credit to the cinematographer and our directors for that. Because they completely talked me through it. Before shooting every scene, the director Abhay Pannu, Nikhil and me and everyone else used to just sit down and talk about what could be going on inside her at this point. And really, we plummed the depts of this moment.

WION: We have seen on your Instagram that it took three hours for the makeup; tell us more about it.

Charu: Yes, I used to be the first person on the set. And it used to take a really long time to get me ready. The makeup team was led by Shoma Goswami. She was so amazing. They made this amazing prosthetic nose, and they would attach that to my face and then attach hair, and then it gave me all the prosthetic touches that were required to create the likeness, as much as possible real-life likeness to Mrs Gandhi. They were really outstanding, they put in their best.

And, yeah, I never thought that I would look anything like Mrs Gandhi. And, the makeup and everything else was so good that even I was not able to recognise myself. And, at one point, my phone's face Id refused to recognise me.

WION: What are your future projects? Anything you can talk about

Charu: I'm looking forward to two films that will release this year. One is a film by Pankaj Tripathi, it has Pankaj Kapoor sir, and it's about a family where three generations are living under the same roof. There are a lot of cultural conflicts, it's very poignant and funny. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also part of Sandeep Reddy's Animal, which stars Ranbir Kapoor.

Alia Bhatt marks first wedding anniversary with UNSEEN mushy pics; fans shower love

One year ago, history was created in the Indian entertainment industry. It was the release of Yash starrer KGF 2, a film that created wonders and set an example of its success across boundaries. Coming from the house of Hombale films, the film has completed 1 year of its release today and nothing to doubt, there hasn't been any blockbuster yet that saw the rage, the craze, the success like KGF 2. Be it conquering the box office windows with its massive collection to emerge as a trendsetter among the audience, the film Prashanth Neel's directorial has transcended all the definitions of success that have never been witnessed before.
To mark the 1-year completion journey of KGF 2, the production house, Hombale Films has shared an enthralling poster of the film and jotted down a caption encapsulating the success of the film.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have parted ways. The ''Lover'' singer and the British actor have called it quits after dating each other for six long years now. The news of their split comes when Swift is busy travelling for her Eras tour, which started last month from Glendale, Arizona.

The news of the breakup was reported by ET. The publication has revealed that the split was amicable and "it was not dramatic."

As per ET, "the relationship had just run its course. It's why [Alwyn] hasn't been spotted at any shows."

Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Joe Alwyn have kept their mouth shut whenever questions have popped up about their personal life. Last year, a lot of rumours were swirling around about the love birds getting engaged.

In 2020, the Grammy winner was even spotted wearing a ring that many guessed was her engagement ring.

However, the engagement rumours were shut down by Joe, himself. During his interview with WSJ. Magazine last year, when asked about the engagement rumour, the actor said, as per People, ''If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins.''

He added further, "I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn't say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn't say."

Swift and Alwyn first met at the 2016 Met Gala and started dating after a few months. Ever since then, the couple has kept their relationship out of the media spotlight most of the time. However, throughout the years, Taylor has devoted a number of songs and lyrics to Joe, such as "London Boy," which she wrote about her time with Joe in Camden and Shoreditch.

Additionally, tracks like "Delicate" from her album "Reputation" were about the early period of their relationship.

Calling the film's plot credible, WION's film critic Shomini Sen wrote in her review, ''The original was deftly able to create a sense of urgency for the lead protagonist who - with a ghory past- is looking forward to a peaceful future with his daughter. There were layers. Unfortunately, the Hindi remake, written by Aamil Keeyan Khan, Ankush Singh, Sandeep Kewlani, and Sriidhar Dubey is unable to put the soul to Bholaa's character. While the narrator (in this case Makrand Deshpande) talks about the fear that Bhola's presence ensued in his heydays- I honestly did not get why he was a ruthless man as he is projected to be. Ajay Devgn's one of the most-awaited movies of the year, Bholaa, was released last month in the theatres, and ever since then, the movie has been ruling over the box office alone. Within two weeks of its release, Devgn's film has crossed the mark of Rs 50 crores. On Sunday, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box office numbers of the past 10 days. The film saw a boost on Friday and collected over Rs 67.39 crore. ''After getting a boost on [second] Fri due to #GoodFriday holiday, #Bholaa witnesses limited growth on [second] Sat… [Week 2] Fri 3.51 cr, Sat 3.90 cr. Total: ₹ 67.39 cr. #India biz.Biz at a glance…⭐️ Week 1: ₹ 59.98 cr [8 days] #BoxOffice,'' Taran Adarsh wrote. Helmed by Ajay, the high-octane action film also stars Tabu, who is playing a role of a cop. The film also stars Deepak Dobriyal, Sanjay Mishra, Amala Paul and Vineet Kumar, amongst others. Preity Zinta slams paparazzi, shares two harassing incidents that shook her: Woman Kissed My Daughter Calling the film's plot credible, WION's film critic Shomini Sen wrote in her review, ''The original was deftly able to create a sense of urgency for the lead protagonist who - with a ghory past- is looking forward to a peaceful future with his daughter. A CGI leopard whimpers like a cat at the sight of Bholaa, he kills goons with a trishul like one picks chicken tikkas with a toothpick - yet the fear and the ruthlessness of the character is never quite properly translated on screen.''
John Leguizamo continues to criticise Chris Pratt's Super Mario Bros. Movie. For the unversed, John was the first actor, who voiced Mario's brother Luigi in Bob Hoskins' 1993 movie Mario and recently he said that he's not going to watch the new film based on the famous video game character.

On Wednesday, while speaking with TMZ, the 62-year-old actor was asked whether he is going to watch the new animated film or not. Replying to this, John said that he had no plans to see Pratt's movie.

"No, I will not be watching," he said, before adding, "They could've included a Latin character. I was groundbreaking, and then they stopped the groundbreaking."

This is not the first time when the actor has slammed the casting of the film. During his recent chat with Indiewire, the actor said that he feels the movie went "backwards" after casting two white actors as the voices of Mario and Luigi.

''I’m O.G. A lot of people love the original," Leguizamo said when asked to share his thoughts on the new movie.

"I did Comic-Con in New York and in Baltimore, and everyone was like, No, no, we love the old one, the original. They’re not feeling the new one. I'm not angry. It's unfortunate," he said further.

Pratt's casting as the lead character in the film has been a point of discussion from the day it was officially confirmed, with many fans questioning whether Pratt will be able to voice Marios' in his Italian accent on not.

Talking about the film, Wion's critic Kshitij Mohan Rawat called the film an adventure through Nostalgia Land.

In the review, he wrote, ''In the grand scheme of things, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a small blip on the radar of video game adaptations. It's not the worst one out there, but it's certainly not the best. However, it's a testament to the enduring popularity of the Mario franchise that people are still interested in seeing these characters on the big screen, even after all these years. One of the strengths of these games has always been their ability to appeal to a wide range of audiences. Kids and adults alike can enjoy the colourful worlds and zany characters that populate the games. The movie is able to capture that same sense of joy and wonder, bringing to life its world in a way that feels true to the source material.''

We've all been there. You have a song you can't get out of your head, maybe you hate it, but you still find yourself humming its tune. Why does this happen? Turns out there's science behind this. A new study has revealed the science behind earworms and has even come up with a way you can kick them out of your head.

Guardian reports that the research by Professor Emery Schubert of the University of New South Wales Arts and Media School found that earworms creep into our brains while we're relaxed, or rather when our brains are in a "low-attentional state."

Shubert describes this as the state which is "sometimes referred to as mind wandering."

"In other words, if you’re deeply engaged with the environment you are in, really concentrating on a task, then you won’t get an earworm," he explains.

The study which has been published in the journal Music & Science found that these "involuntary musical imagery" are often choruses of songs and that certain songs are more successful as earworms. This is because they have catchy, repetitive tunes that our brains are familiar with.

Schubert says that most research on earworms to date has analysed the song's hook — a short riff or passage that works to catch a listener's attention. He, however, said the research fails to take into consideration the "repetition of the music structure".

To reiterate this point, the research makes reference to an earlier study that revealed that Lady Gaga's Bad Romance is one of the most persistent earworms.

"The implication is that earworms might not have anything to do with the musical features at all. It largely doesn’t matter what the music is, as long as repetition is part of the music structure."

However, as per the research, apart from the repetition, the relaxation of the listener and their familiarity with the music also matter.

Now, if you're looking for a way to get rid of the earworm, apparently it's very simple.
