A young batter from Pakistan, Ayesha Naseem, has decided to bid adieu to international cricket at the tender age of 18. The stylish right-hander has reportedly conveyed her shocking decision of stepping aside to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Though there has been no official confirmation from either her or the board, several media reports suggested she took this call to align her life with the principles of Islam.

Ayesha, a promising batter, made her international debut three years back in 2020 against Thailand in a T20I game in Sydney. She made her first appearance in ODIs against West Indies a year later, in 2021. Having played four One-Dayers and 30 T20Is for Pakistan, Ayesha amassed 33 and 369 runs, respectively, at an impressive strike rate of nearly 130 in the shortest format.

"I'm leaving cricket and want to live my life according to Islam," Naseem reportedly told PCB.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) registered its dissent on Monday, July 17, against ICC's new Financial Distribution Model (2023-27) that unanimously got approved following ICC Board Meeting earlier this month. The PCB, in a statement, said they wanted it to get deferred to the next ICC meet, but because other members decided against backing PCB on this, it got tabled on Thursday, July 13.

With PCB's counterpart, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), set to pocket the biggest slab, earning approx. $230 million out of the allotted $600 million pot for the next four years, the Pakistan Board sought more details on the same to understand their cut in this reworked model.

While the BCCI takes the daddy amount (nearly 38.4%), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), with a $41 million share or 6.89%, is next in line, and Cricket Australia (CA) is third with $37.53 million or 6.25%.

"PCB, in accordance with its constitutional right, has over the past few weeks and at the ICC Meetings, consistently sought additional information to better understand the rationale behind the allocation of weightage to each of the criteria and the calculation of the distributions. The PCB felt in the absence of all relevant information, data and formulae, such a significant decision should not be taken in haste," PCB said in a statement on Monday.

"The PCB, therefore, proposed that this item may be deferred to the next ICC meeting.

"Ultimately, the majority of members did not find it feasible to defer this item and voted in favour of passing the Model, while the PCB recorded its dissent as a matter of principle," it added.

<h2>'PCB was to receive double the share in new model'</h2>

With cricket returning to Pakistan after a gap of nearly ten years and almost every big team travelling to the country for a bilateral series, barring India (due to political tensions between both countries), the PCB urged for a better share of revenue in the latest Financial Model.&nbsp;

The PCB also said it was set to receive double the share it got in the previous cycle because of what it brought to the table.

"Consequently, due to the Pakistan cricket team’s performance in men’s ICC events and in bilateral cricket, the PCB’s own huge fan base, which leads to significant commercial value, the PCB was ranked amongst the top-four nations in this Model. As such, the PCB will receive more than two times the revenue when compared to the last cycle," PCB said.

PCB expresses dissent against ICC's new Financial Distribution Model 2023-27 following approval

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a high-level executive committee to decide on the national team’s participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The high-level committee is headed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto and will soon submit a report to the PM on whether the situation is safe for the national team to participate in the ODI World Cup or not.

<h2>Who is part of the committee?</h2>

As things stand, the committee headed by Bilawal Bhutto consists of Sports Minister Ahsan Mazari, Maryam Aurangzeb, Asad Mahmood, Amin ul Haq, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and former diplomat Tariq Fatmi. They will review the situation in the coming days as a high-level security delegation will travel to India to inspect the venues and other key elements during the World Cup. Once the report is finalised, it will be submitted to the PM, who also acts as the patron-in-chief of the PCB.

On the flip side, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have finalised the programme for the World Cup after the schedule was made public on Tuesday, June 27. None of Pakistan’s demands were met when the schedule was released as the board demanded not to play Afghanistan in Chennai and Australia in Bangalore.

As things stand, Pakistan is yet to finalise its participation in the tournament as they have conveyed that no stand will be taken by the board until the government gives its clearance.

On the other hand, the PCB has been going through the turmoil of events with the elections to get the next chairman of the board yet again postponed indefinitely. Currently, a new management committee has been formed by the order of the PM and has been headed by Zaka Ashraf, the likely next chairman of the PCB.

Ashraf will travel to Durban in the coming hours to participate in an ICC board meeting, where he is likely to open on Pakistan’s stand on whether to participate in the ODI World Cup or not.

According to the current schedule, the ODI World Cup will start on October 5 with the opening clash between England and New Zealand. Pakistan will open their campaign against one of the qualifier teams on October 6 with them playing India on Sunday, October 15.

The committee will be headed by the former PCB chairman that also consists of former Pakistan batter Zaheer Abbas and a Supreme Court judge.

The prime minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif approved the committee and it will function for the next four months. The decision leaves PCB in a state of limbo with no permanent chairman during the ODI World Cup and the Asia Cup, if no elections take place in the coming days. The elections were originally supposed to take place on June 27, but petitions were filed by the likes of Najam Sethi and other former members of the PCB in several High Courts of the nation which prompted the indefinite postponement of the process.

"Given the litigations, and in the wake of imminent International Cricket events &amp; major decisions at International Council of Cricket, and to ensure seamless and efficient management at the helm of PCB, proposes the constitution of a new Management Committee for a period of four months as a measure to remove the difficulties arising out of the current scenario... Ministry is of the considered view that Rana may be removed from his position, and Mahmood Iqbal Khakwani, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, may be appointed as the new Commissioner of PCB,” the ministry for inter-provincial coordination (IPC) wrote to the Pakistan prime minister.

Zaka Ashraf to head PCB's new management committee after postponed elections

Pakistan's participation in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is still under the cloud. When the ICC, after much delay, announced the official schedule on June 27, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had said that their participation depends on government clearance. The Pakistani board, however, has written a letter to their government too seek the permission to play in India, reported ESPNCricinfo.

In a letter addressed to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the PCB asked for advice on the upcoming travel to India required for the ODI World Cup 2023.&nbsp;

"Soon after the World Cup schedule was announced last Tuesday, we wrote to our Patron, Honourable Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, through the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry, copying the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior, requesting clearance to participate in the World Cup," a PCB official told ESPNcricinfo.

Pakistan will play their nine games at five venues: Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai Kolkata and Ahmedabad.&nbsp;If qualified for the semifinals, Pakistan will play in Kolkata on November 16 in Kolkata. India will play in Mumbai if qualified for semis unless they play against Pakistan, in which case they'll play in Kolkata, reported ICC at time of announcement of schedule.

Pakistan's tie against India - one of the marquee world cup matches - will be played in Ahmedabad on October 15.

"The decision to visit India and approve venues at which we can play our matches is the prerogative of the Government of Pakistan. We have absolute trust in the judgment of our government and will follow whatever is advised. It is entirely up to the Government of Pakistan the process it wants to formulate and follow before advising us on the next steps. If this requires sending an advance team to India to inspect the venues and hold meetings with the event organisers, then it will solely be the government's decision," the PCB official further stated.

The two countries are at loggerheads due to political tension between them. The BCCI recently had decided not to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup. The regional tournament, after BCCI's objection, will now be held in a hybrid model, with rest of the games after first four to be played in Sri Lanka. Pakistan had threatened to pull out of the ODI World Cup after India decided not to play in Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup.

'Stop making low-standard...': Former Pakistan wicketkeeper lashes out at PCB for ODI WC requests

"There's no issue at all. You have to play wherever the match is, end of discussion. This is unnecessary. Ask the Pakistan players, they don't care whether it's Ahmedabad or anywhere else. They will play according to the schedule," Akram told reporters in Pakistan.

Akram also reacted to PCB's earlier stance of boycotting the World Cup after India decided not to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. The regional tournament will now be played under a hybrid model with only four games to be played in Pakistan and rest shifting to Sri Lanka (including all of India's games.)

"I'm all for ego. If you have an understanding of the situation then speak on the matter, by all means, but also learn to move on. There is no point in saying 'we will do this if that doesn't happen'. Try to judge whether you can back your claims and only then make those claims. We are all patriotic but at the end of the day, this is just a game," he added.

Talking about Pakistan's matches, the Men in Green start their campaign against a qualifying team on October 6 in Hyderabad. The team will also play their second match against another qualifying team on October 12 in Hyderabad as well. Their next match is probably the biggest fixture of the World Cup - vs India on October 15 in Ahmedabad.

Ace Pakistan seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi has returned to the Test side for the first time in almost a year, as PCB announced a 16-man squad for Sri Lanka Tests. Afridi, who last played a Test in Galle in 2022, got ruled out for a few months due to a knee injury. Shaheen Afridi suffered a knee injury while playing the first Test last year and got ruled out. As a result, he remained away from competitive cricket for a few months, missing Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai. Though team doctors recommended him an extended rest given the degree of his injury, PCB rushed his treatment for him to get ready for the T20 World Cup in Australia, but saw things falling apart later on.

Having declared fit for the mega tournament, Shaheen looked sluggish earlier but made up with his array of wickets later. In the final against England, he again injured his already troubled knee and was taken off immediately. With that, Pakistan lost the final and also Afridi for an indefinite period, which saw him further missing the home series against England and New Zealand.

"I am very excited to be returning to the Pakistan Test side after a year. I dearly missed Test cricket, and it was tough for me to be away from this format," Shaheen was quoted as saying in a PCB media release.

"After missing our entire home season because of the injury, I suffered in Sri Lanka, I am eager to make an impactful comeback in the same country and complete a century of wickets in Test cricket. I want to thank my fans who have provided me support in tough times, and I am ready for the challenges ahead," the seamer with 99 Tests wickets added.

<h2>Asia Cup format impact?</h2>

As things stand, Pakistan are already on the back foot after they lost the rights to host the majority of the Asia Cup matches in coming August and September. The PCB is considered to be disappointed by the now official hybrid model of the Asia Cup where official hosts Pakistan is to host four matches while unofficial hosts Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine matches, including the final if India enter the showpiece.

While India remains clear on their stand on not travelling to Pakistan, Sethi previously stated that Pakistan might not travel to India and would propose a hybrid model for the World Cup. However, the approach has been turned down by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Since India has confirmed it will not travel to Pakistan, a similar stand was expected to be taken by the PCB which has put Pakistan’s involvement in jeopardy for the ODI World Cup. The PCB also has opposed the idea of staging the India vs Pakistan league contest in Ahmedabad and wants it to be staged in another location.

As per the latest reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is mulling over changing venues for the upcoming events – the 2024 T20 World Cup (in West Indies and the USA) and the 2025 Champions Trophy (in Pakistan). News18 CricketNext reported earlier that ICC could switch the 2024 T20 WC from West Indies and USA to Ireland and Scotland, while the 2025 Champions Trophy could be moved to West Indies and the USA from Pakistan.

Sources close to the information revealed that though the talks are in their initial stages now, the chances of this happening are higher considering the lack of infrastructure in the USA for hosting the multi-team event.&nbsp;

“The current infrastructure situation in the USA is not very encouraging. Even if they successfully host the upcoming Major League Cricket, hosting an event like the T20 World Cup is a different ball game altogether. Where will you host the matches when the venues aren’t ready? Also, a long tournament in the far west could be a loss-making proposition for the broadcasters in the sub-continent, where the returns are highest,” sources close to the information said, as quoted by Cricket Addictor.

Besides, the broadcasters for the next ICC media rights are also believed to agree to this proposal, and if everything falls in place, the changes might be implemented.

So, why this change is happening in the first place? Because of the scheduling constraint in the UK - the matches can only be played from May to June – which is the same window when the next year’s T20 World Cup is scheduled in the Caribbean and the USA. As a result, the ICC has looked into Scotland and Ireland as alternative options.

Now if that happens, the ICC can switch the venue of the 2025 Champions Trophy from Pakistan to West Indies and the USA – giving the USA more time to prepare the required infrastructure for the tournament. Also, since the Champions Trophy will host fewer matches in comparison to T20 World Cup, hosting 2025 CT in WI and the USA looks like a logistically viable option.

However, the report also suggested that none of the countries mentioned to host these events has signed a "hosting agreement"&nbsp;yet, as ICC will try to convince Pakistan for the swap by potentially compensating them monetarily for the change.

The PCB, miffed with the stance of boards, especially SLC, has pulled out of an ODI series for which they had to travel to Sri Lanka after the Island nation projected itself as the potential host for the tournament. The SLC did so after India's repeated stance of shifting the Asia Cup entirely out of Pakistan after rejecting the hybrid model.

"Pakistan only has two options. Play the tourney at a neutral venue or withdraw," also said an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) source said.

"In case Pakistan doesn't play, it will still be called Asia Cup but the broadcaster will renegotiate the deal in the absence of Pakistan.

"There is every possibility the Asia Cup might not be held this year because without Pakistan and India matches the broadcasters are not likely to offer the same amount they were offering to the ACC with Pakistan included," the ACC source said.

Notably, Pakistan has also threatened to pull out of the ICC ODI WC&nbsp;to be held later this year in India. The ICC official, reportedly travelled to Pakistan to seek a guarantee for their participation in the quadrennial tournament, PTI had reported.

Pakistan pull out of ODI series in Sri Lanka after SLC offers to host Asia Cup - Report

The tussle between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over hosting of Asia Cup doesn't seem to get over anytime soon. After India decided to not visit its neighboring country for the ODI tournament, PCB has also threatened repeatedly to back out from the ICC ODI World Cup to be played in India later this year.

The PCB subsequently offered a hybrid model solution for the tournament and but India rejected that. The International Cricket Council (ICC) officials, meanwhile, have travelled to Pakistan to seek guarantee from the board for their participation in the ODI World Cup. The reason for ICC's unease that if India agreed to PCB's hybrid model then Pakistan might as well ask for the same at the ODI WC.

According to a report by news agency PTI, ICC chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice have travelled to Pakistan for seek reassurances from the board over their participation in the ODI WC.

"The ICC and World Cup hosts, the BCCI are concerned with hybrid model being pushed by Najam Sethi who heads the cricket management committee of the PCB. Although the hybrid model has been suggested by Sethi for the Asia Cup which precedes the ICC event, the concern remains that once accepted for the regional event the PCB might also then ask the ICC to implement it for the World Cup when it comes to Pakistan playing in India," said a source abreast of proceedings to PTI.

"Naturally neither the ICC nor the BCCI want such a situation since Pakistan's unequivocal participation in matches in India would guarantee the success of Indo-Pakistan matches and also the tournament itself," added the source.

"The ICC officials are trying to work as a bridge between the PCB and BCCI and resolve the outstanding issues pertaining to the Asia Cup and World Cup," said the source further.

ICC seeks guarantee from Pakistan to play in ODI WC amid tussle over Asia Cup with India - Report

With each passing day, a new stipulation or suggested change gets added to the Asia Cup 2023 saga that has made enough headlines for reasons unrelated to cricket. Following the IPL 2023 Final, where all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) members, barring PCB representatives, were present, Jay Shah – BCCI secretary and ACC chief, clarified his stance on PCB’s hybrid model, saying the Asia Cup will happen in Sri Lanka only, and that&nbsp;the PCB has to abide by it, else they can pull out.

Although no formal announcement has been made, as per a report in the Telegraph India, sources in the knowhow have&nbsp;revealed that PCB chief Najam Sethi will be informed about the same in the next ACC meeting.

It must be noted Pakistan was the original host for this year’s Asia Cup, and upon receiving reservations from the BCCI over their team going&nbsp;to Pakistan and playing a multi-team event series there, the PCB proposed a hybrid model - which was also denied by the Indian board.

That model stated four or five matches will be played in Pakistan, while India will play its games in the UAE. The BCCI played down this idea citing unfavourable weather conditions in the UAE during September.

However, as reported earlier, Jay Shah had invited top bosses from ACB, BCB and SLC for the IPL 2023 Final – and after informal discussions around the same, all agreed to play the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka, with the island nation also agreeing to host the tournament on short notice.

Meanwhile, PCB, on several occasions, has said that if Asia Cup 2023 rights were snatched from them, there is a high chance their government might not allow Pakistan to travel to India for the 50-over World Cup later this year. Given the ACC is set to inform about their call to play Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, the PCB could be prompted to take extreme measures.

Besides, the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice are currently in Lahore seeking assurance from Pakistan over their participation in the World Cup.

Following regular meetings with Najam Sethi over their short visit to Lahore, it is learnt that both ICC bosses have been informed about Pakistan’s stance on the whole episode.

While the final schedule for the 2023 World Cup will be revealed on the sidelines of the World Test Championship final, it remains to be seen if Pakistan decides to participate or not.&nbsp;

PCB, who earlier had named former South African coach, Mickey Arthur as the team director, have announced the signing of fellow Protean Andrew Puttick as the new batting coach on a two-year contract. While the strength and conditioning coach, Drikus Saaiman and physiotherapist, Cliffe Deacon, will continue in their roles, a PCB press release said.

Under Bradburn, Pakistan fared well against the Kiwis – winning the ODIs 4-1 and drawing the T20I series 2-2. Babar Azam-led side also claimed the number one ranking in ODIs for the first time during that period only.

"I am delighted to name Grant Bradburn as the head coach of our men's side. Bradburn joins the side with a plethora of coaching experience. After having worked with our men's side before and at the National Cricket Academy, he understands our culture and philosophy of cricket well and is an ideal candidate to take our team forward," PCB chief Najam Sethi said on his appointment, as quoted in Cricbuzz.

"After the announcement of Mickey Arthur as team director, Bradburn's appointment is another step in our endeavours of putting together a highly qualified coaching panel so our players can benefit from their experiences and dominate world cricket in all three formats," Sethi added.

Upon getting picked as the new boss, Bradburn said he's looking forward to working with such a talented group of players, and knowing their culture from close quarters would help him get the team to be better in all aspects moving forward.

"It is a great honour for me to work with the highly talented and skilful side like Pakistan as a head coach. We have been working hard on raising our game and are eager to showcase our growing skills. Mickey Arthur and I are excited to support, challenge and develop our players. The New Zealand series has been valuable to get game time and create clarity of roles, culture and brand to win,” Bradburn said.

In another blow to the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) quest to host this year’s Asia Cup, the Sri Lankan and Bangladesh cricket boards have reportedly backed BCCI over not sending their side to Pakistan for the multi-team tournament. The two cricket boards are also supporting the Indian cricket board's push to move the 2023 Asia Cup out of the country.

As per a report in Geo News, BCCI’s close allies are mulling over staging the 2023 Asia Cup, in case it gets moved out of Pakistan. Reports suggest that if the tournament is hosted at a neutral venue and Pakistan decides against participating, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) could consider replacing them with UAE.&nbsp;

Earlier, after allotting Pakistan the chance to host the Asia Cup for the first time since 2008, Jay Shah - who is BCCI and also ACC’s president, said the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the same and instead backed the idea of hosting the event outside the country.&nbsp;

Replying to this, PCB&nbsp;chief Najam Sethi, during the previous ACC meetings, said if what all said is done, then Pakistan might also consider boycotting the 50-over World Cup in India later this year.&nbsp;

Instead, PCB&nbsp;suggested a hybrid model for the 2023 Asia Cup wherein the Indian team will play its matches outside of Pakistan – to which the BCCI denied the proposal suggesting this will make things awkward for both boards.

Meanwhile, the report also said that Narendra Modi-led Indian government had urged BCCI to take a stricter stance over the same in the next ACC meeting. Also, Jay Shah is believed to have promised the broadcasters that the losses suffered due to Pakistan’s absence in the 2023 Asia Cup will get compensated during a series involving India shortly.&nbsp;

Earlier, Najam Sethi talked about ending this crisis among boards to ensure cricket is not suffering. He said instead of all of this, a middle way should be found things should go forward.

“In case of India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan to compete in the Asia Cup, chances are there that the Pakistan government would not allow the Men in Green to cross the borders for their World Cup participation. In that case, cricket will be the ultimate sufferer,” Sethi said, as quoted in Geo News.

“There should be a middle way to solve problems that surely threaten the smooth hosting of ICC and ACC events. In case of India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the government will not allow us to travel to India to figure in the World Cup matches,” Sethi added.

He further tore into the board's call to bring back Najam Sethi as the new boss, claiming that Sethi doesn't understand the game and probably was never good enough to break into a club XI.

"A PCB chairman who doesn't understand cricket probably was not even good enough to make it to the XI in a club game, heads a cabal of political, petty-minded club runners for a management committee to run Pakistan cricket affairs, who are on a Rs 12 lakhs a month salary," Raja added.

As reported earlier, Arthur will work with the Pakistan Men's Cricket team remotely - meaning he will be involved in designing, formulating and even overseeing strategies for the team, but will not be present with them physically, owing to his commitment with the Derbyshire County Cricket Club.&nbsp;

"He (Arthur)&nbsp;will also be a part of the coaching staff for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, away tour to Australia and home series against the West Indies. He will also be present with the side for Pakistan's matches against India in the ACC Asia Cup," the PCB said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, it is for the second time that Mickey Arthur is getting connected with Pakistan Men's Cricket team, having earlier coached them during 2016-2019 - where he guided them to their maiden Champions Trophy in England.

According to ESPNcricinfo’s report, Ehsan-ur-Rehman Mazari, the Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), confirmed that a request for the extension had been made to the Prime Minister and that they have requested to name two nominees for the new board, one of whom is expected to become the PCB chairman.

The committee was initially given a term of 120 days, which will expire on Saturday.

A copy of the IPC summary to the Prime Minister's office, seen by ESPNcricinfo, reads: "The tenure of the management committee expires on April 21 and PCB is directed to submit a comprehensive report of activities so far after the revival of the PCB constitution of 2014 from 22 December 2022 to 20 April 2023. Following the development, the IPC is in its opinion to extend the tenure of the committee for a period of two to four weeks (maximum) to materialise the outcome of the action."

It is hoped that the new management could come into effect after the New Zealand series that is taking place at the moment. While nothing is clear yet, Sethi could still lead the new management despite getting some opposition in the country.
