Pakistan cricket authorities said Thursday they would not renew the contract of national team director Mohammad Hafeez, showing him the door after disastrous tours of Australia and New Zealand.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed 43-year-old Hafeez in late 2023 after the side crashed out of the World Cup in India.

But in his brief tenure Pakistan were whitewashed 3-0 in a Test series in Australia and lost 4-1 in the Twenty20 series in New Zealand.

Mohammad Hafeez out as Pakistan national cricket team director days after general elections

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has parted ways with Director of Cricket Mohammad Hafeez following an unsuccessful stint, the board announced on Thursday (Feb 15) on their social media handles. PCB’s call to remove Hafeez from the said position comes after consecutive series losses, including the Test series against Australia and T20Is versus New Zealand.

Hafeez’s contract&nbsp;got further complicated after the Sports Ministry suggested not to proceed with long-term agreements, leading to his short-term contract ending with the conclusion of the T20I series against the Kiwis in January.

Besides, growing concerns within the board about the team’s performance under Hafeez’s tutelage also led to this decision. The appointment of the new coaching staff, including Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, and foreign coaches Simon Helmot and Adam Hollioake, failing to replicate the expected results, also pushed the board to take the call.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board extends heartfelt gratitude to Mohammad Hafeez, Director Pakistan men’s cricket team, for his invaluable contributions. Hafeez's passion for the game has inspired players, and his mentorship during the tour of Australia and New Zealand have been of immense importance. The PCB wishes Hafeez good luck and success in his future endeavours," the PCB posted on X (previously known as Twitter).&nbsp;

<h2>The sinking ship</h2>

Since the removal of former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja as the PCB chairman in December 2021, more than two people have taken over the position, leading to instability within the board, with each boss bringing changes per their needs. Not only did it create anxiety for the board members, but it also hampered the dressing room environment, leading to uncertainties everywhere.

However, with several players deciding against playing for Pakistan, choosing to represent their teams in franchise-based T20 leagues worldwide instead, it mounted pressure on Hafeez, leading to rising tensions between certain top players and him.

The tensions grew further when Hafeez showed reluctance against providing NOCs to several players, including Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan and Azam Khan, for the Bangladesh Premier League, putting their contract situation in jeopardy.&nbsp;

Moreover, several reports surfaced online on senior players being unhappy with Hafeez’s management, mainly because of lengthy meetings and a perceived rigid approach.&nbsp;

Pakistan Cricket Board parts ways with Director of Cricket Mohammad Hafeez following failed stint

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) top brass is reported to be unhappy with star players, including former all-format captain Babar Azam and current T20I skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi, for their involvement in a fan interaction session, organised by their agents, on X (previously known as Twitter) lately.

Although the Q&amp;A session attracted thousands of fans, further affirming Babar and Shaheen’s popularity worldwide, a source within the PCB revealed this decision to openly interact with fans on the social media platform without keeping the board informed hasn’t been received well by the decision makers in Pakistan cricket.

"The PCB will look to revisit some of the clauses that the centrally contracted players need to adhere to," the source said, as quoted by the Times of India.&nbsp;

"The clauses covering the social media activities of contracted players are now being reviewed again by the board because it is concerned such public Q and A sessions could result in unnecessary controversies," the source added.

<h2>New boss, new rules</h2>

Considering the consistent change at the head of the table at PCB since December 2022, with four new bosses taking charge for different tenures at different times, each has tried running Pakistan Cricket his way, with players and their agents, alongside the coaching staff facing the wrath of it.

Although the bosses might have changed in the meantime, one common aspect of each ignoring some part of the clauses of the players’ contracts has made headlines somewhere.&nbsp;

"Every PCB chairman has tried to run the board in his own way and, in some cases, even ignored the written clauses of the central contracts and given special permissions to players in the past 12 months," the source added.

As per the source, the newly-elected PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has asked for every player's contract details and transcripts of their interviews and social media content in the past few months, pushing for an overhaul in their social media policies.

"Naqvi clearly wants a revised media policy for players, and for this, the PCB could revise some clauses of the central contracts," the source concluded.&nbsp;

Former Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur, who was part of the side during their 2023 ODI World Cup debacle, has pointed out that instability in the team structure has resulted in players focusing on their performances and spots, rather than team performance. Arthur recently resigned from his post at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Arthur stated, "When there's security within the environment, Pakistan is very good. When there's that insecurity, players start playing for themselves instead of the team because they're thinking of the next tour, and the next contract. That's a dangerous place to be in, and that's kind of where Pakistan cricket is now. And that's something that's very disappointing and sad for me."

He opined, "There's a massive amount of talent there, There are some world-class players, not just talented players. They're not given the support structure that they need to flourish."

Former Pakistan captain and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq lashed out at Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) former chief Zaka Ashraf and blamed him for the Men in Green's dismal run in the 2023 ODI World Cup&nbsp;held in India. Ashraf resigned as the PCB chief on Jan 19. Inzamam feels Ashraf's comments during the ODI WC had a bad impact on the Babar Azam-led team, who finished fifth and failed to enter the semi-finals.&nbsp;

Inzamam recalled the time Ashraf claimed that the World Cup team was selected by the captain and chief selector and not the board. He feels this affected the team morale adversely.&nbsp;

Speaking to a Pakistani news channel, as quoted by PTI, Inzamam said, "Can you imagine the mindset of the players when during an important event like the World Cup in India they hear that the PCB Chairman is saying the team selected was not done by the board but by the captain and chief selector only."

In addition, Inzamam further revealed that&nbsp;he is still waiting for the inquiry committee report on his alleged conflict of interest while serving as PCB&nbsp;chief selector. During the ODI WC, the former Pakistani captain resigned as the chief selector due to the said allegations.

He opined, "Just think what must be going through the players' minds when they hear that an inquiry committee has been formed against the chief selector and he has resigned. Where does this happen? I am still waiting for that report of the inquiry committee against me which was formed to probe whether I had committed a conflict of interest while being the chief selector."

Inzamam-ul-Haq blasts former PCB chief Zaka Ashraf for Pakistan's 2023 ODI World Cup debacle

Zaka Ashraf stepped down as the chairperson of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee late Friday (Jan 19) evening. Ashraf, who succeeded former chief Najam Sethi tendered his resignation during the board's management committee meeting in Lahore. With general elections set to take place in the nation in February, it will be interesting to see who takes the job next with Pakistan cricket already going through a chaotic period both on and off the field.

Having taken charge of his office in June 2023 after chaos in the election of the new PCB chairman, Ashraf’s reign started with a set of tough challenges. "In his concluding remarks, Mr Zaka Ashraf thanked the honourable Patron PCB for the confidence and trust reposed by him and extended his best wishes and prayers for the betterment of Pakistan and Pakistan cricket," the release read.

Former Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur has refuted the claims of being an 'online coach' made by some retired players during his tenure with Men in Green. Arthur, who served as Pakistan national team's director of cricket, was sacked in aftermath of 2023 ODI World Cup. Pakistan had failed to qualify to the semifinals in the quadrennial tournament with four wins and five losses from nine games. Mohammad Hafeez has replaced Arthur as Pakistan's new director of cricket.

“Anybody who knows me will also know that I will not commit 100 per cent if I can’t do it. With Pakistan I was never an ‘online coach’ as I put together the coaching staff, I was in constant contact with them every single day and knew exactly what was going on within the team,” said Arthur as reported by the news agency PTI.

The comments were made by the former Pakistani cricketers as Arthur was simultaneously serving as the coach of English county side Derbyshire.

“I trust Najam Sethi (former PCB chairman) implicitly. We have a very good relationship, and I went in to try and help him because I owe him a lot. He’s the one who gave me my opportunity to return to international cricket after I had been sacked by Australia. He and I built up a good relationship. One of the reasons I returned was to specifically work with Najam again,” he added.

Arthur also spoke about the environment in Ahmedabad during Pakistan's marquee clash against arch-rivals India in ODI World Cup, and said that it was quite tough and hostile.&nbsp;

“As you can imagine it was a tough, hostile environment in Ahmedabad. But we were expecting this, and to their credit our players never moaned or complained once. They cracked on and tried their best – nevertheless it ultimately does play a role in motivation when you can’t see or hear that support base around you,” said Arthur.

Notably, Arthur had criticised the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the match for not playing the music supporting Pakistan.

Sacked Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur refutes claims of being 'online coach'

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially sacked the trio of Micky Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick after a poor string of results in recent months. The Zaka Ashraf-led PCB has acted swiftly against the trio having taken the job last May when Najam Sethi was the president of the board. The departure has taken place with immediate effect as the trio will not return. Chief operating officer Salman Naseer will now negotiate a final settlement with the trio who will be paid for the next few months as compensation.

<h2>Arthur and Co depart</h2>

"After some consultations since Mickey is already with Derbyshire and Puttick and Bradburn have found new assignments it was decided to end the matter amicably and release them from their contracts," a PCB official said.

The decision also coincides with Mohammad Hafeez’s appointment as the Director of Cricket for the national side. The trio had worked with the national side during the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup where Pakistan had a flop campaign and were eliminated in the group stage of the latter.

According to reports, there was no clause in the contracts of the trio that allowed them to work with other teams. Currently, Arthur is working with Derbyshire while Puttick is the batting coach of the Afghanistan national team. Bradburn, like Arthur, has taken over as a coach at English county side Glamorgan.

The dismissal also comes after Pakistan’s awful 3-0 defeat to Australia in the Test series Down Under. They were beaten comprehensively despite a few better performances with the bat. On the field, they went with a host of changes with Babar Azam leaving captaincy while Shan Masood was given the nod in the Test format. Considering this, Butt’s selection raised quite a few eyebrows across the country.

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has hit out at the board for appointing Salman Butt as a consultant member to the chief selector for the upcoming series against New Zealand. Butt - a tainted ex-player is among the three people appointed by the PCB after recent administrative clearance to get Pakistan cricket back on track. However, the appointment has not gone down well with Raja. "It's insane to have a selection committee consisting of a member whose decision can be termed as a display of filial affection or non-affection and another who was locked up for match-fixing," Raja was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. Apart from Butt, the PCB has appointed ex-cricketers Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar as consultants to guide chief selector Wahab Riaz. "The three have assumed their responsibilities in the selection panel with immediate effect. Their first assignment as consultant members to the chief selector includes the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, set to commence on 12 January 2024 following the conclusion of the Test tour to Australia," PCB said in a statement. It also said that when all three are not engaged in the selection duties, they will be busy conducting skill camps. In regards to Salman Butt, whom PCB last picked in 2020 as part of the commentator's panel, will resume his association with Pakistan Cricket. A former captain and a top-order batter, Salman featured in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs and 24 T20Is for the Men in Green. Australia's Mitchell Marsh is loving his new version where he's batting aggressively and turning the games with his belligerence on the crease. The batter was sensational during the recently-concluded ODI World Cup 2023 where he scored 441 runs in 10 matches during the triumphant campaign.

The all-rounder has vowed to not change his style of batting if he gets selected for the upcoming home Test series against Pakistan, which starts December 14.

"The way I'm going to bat won't change," Mitch Marsh said as reported by the ICC. "I feel like I've found my most consistent method over the last couple of years and that's allowed me to really enjoy my cricket."

He'll mostly be battling for a place in the XI with Cameron Green but Marsh had nothing but praise for his young competitor.

"I always joke that there's probably not a lot I can teach him on the cricket field, but he knows I'm always there for him and hopefully we can play a lot of cricket together."

Marsh's current form in ODIs and his blistering hundred in Ashes earlier this year on his return to red-ball format may just work in his favour. The all-rounder, however, is unperturbed by the selection scenarios and said that he's here to enjoy and have fun.

"I'm past battling, I'm here to enjoy my cricket and have fun," Marsh added. "I absolutely love playing for Australia.

"I worked really hard to get another opportunity during the Ashes and my attitude is 'what will be, will be', so I've done everything I can," added Marsh.

Australia will be playing three Tests against Pakistan which are part of the World Test Championship's 2023-25 cycle. The second Test will start on Boxing Day while the third one will begin in new year's on January 3.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently embroiled in a heated fight with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) over additional compensation for organising chartered flights between Pakistan and Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup between August and September.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently embroiled in a heated fight with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) over additional compensation for organising chartered flights between Pakistan and Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup between August and September. PCB hosted the continental tournament alongside Sri Lanka in hybrid mode after India refused to to play its matches in Pakistan. Consequently, the matches had to be rescheduled with teams flying between Pakistan and Sri Lanka routinely, leading to an increase in overheads. According to news agency PTI, PCB is currently seeking tournament hosting fees, which comes around to $250,000 despite only hosting four games during the tournament. “The additional money is for expenses incurred on renting chartered flights for teams between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and other extra expenses like additional hotel and transport fees, which were not included in the initial budget for the Asia Cup.” A total of four chartered flights were arranged during the tournament as PCB roped in a Sri Lankan firm named Classic Travel, for a sum of $281,000. However, ACC has made it clear that it will not pay PCB anything more than the hosting right fee and shares from ticketing and sponsorships - triggering a sharp response from the Pakistani board. Pakistan to miss out on Champions Trophy? After missing out on hosting duties for the Asia Cup, Pakistan is on the brink of hosting rights of 2025 Champions Trophy as well, due to India and BCCI's stance of not sending their team to the country. A PTI report claimed that PCB chief Zaka Ashraf and COO Salman Naseer met the ICC executive board in Ahmedabad to discuss uncertainty surrounding the venue of the 2025 Champions Trophy. However, with India unwilling to flip on its stance, a hybrid model once again looks likely. UAE could be hosting the Indian matches while Pakistan plays host to non-India matches. While India and Australia have won it twice, with the Men in Blue last winning in 2013, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, West Indies and South Africa have won it once. (With inputs from agencies)

Days after the Pakistan Team got ruled out of the World Cup 2023 following their loss to England in the last league match, their cricket board brought in several changes. While veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez got picked as the new director of men's cricket, recently retired seamer Wahab Riaz is named the new chief selector, replacing Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Following a failed World Cup 2023 campaign amidst growing pressure of conflict of interest from the other end, Inzamam - appointed to head the selection committee in the lead-up to the marquee event, stepped down from his post on October 30, at a time when the competition was still on, with Pakistan alive in the semis race.

Though local media reported Inzamam’s connections with a UK-based company - Yazoo International Ltd, leading to all trouble, the veteran captain resigned immediately, distancing himself from any controversy.

Meanwhile, Wahab, who retired from international cricket in August this year, remains active in the franchise cricket circle. Although he hasn’t officially parted ways with the Pakistan Cricket League (PSL), his team - Peshawar Zalmi, thanked him for his exceptional service to this league and game over the years.

Their post read, "Thank you for your countless contributions over the past 8 years and you will always remain an integral part of Zalmi family."

Pakistan news TV anchor Waseem Badami has apologised on behalf of his team for leaking the private WhatsApp conversation between national cricket team captain Babar Azam and PCB COO Salman Naseer. The apology came on Tuesday (Oct 31) after former players lashed out at the media for disturbing the privacy of the players. However, Badami also claimed that it was PCB chief Zaka Ashraf who permitted him to leak the chat.

“We have to make a lot of quick decisions when we produce a live show. A lot of people are involved in it too. Naturally, some decisions prove to be right and some wrong. As a team, we made a wrong decision, sharing Babar’s chat with a senior PCB official. In short, we were sitting together and deciding an hour before the show that we shouldn’t make a private chat public," Badami said in a video posted on his official X account.

On Monday, the personal chats between Babar and Salman Naseer were revealed by ARY News and sparked big outrage. In the chat, Salman had asked Babar whether he had any conversations with the PCB chief during the ODI World Cup in India. However, in reply, Babar Azam declined any conversations with Ashraf as he was under scrutiny during the ODI World Cup for Pakistan’s poor show.

On the other hand, it is reported that captain Babar could resign in the coming days once the team gets back to Pakistan after the World Cup. On Monday, chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned from his post after the team’s dismal show.

Pakistani TV news anchor issues apology in Babar Azam chat leak saga, points finger at PCB chief Zaka Ashraf

From poor fitness and fielding to PCB chaos: Decoding Pakistan's dismal run in ODI World Cup

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for demoralising the national side during the ongoing ODI World Cup in India, where Babar Azam &amp; Co. are struggling at the moment. Kaneria wrote a lengthy post on X, formerly Twitter, where he slammed the board after Babar's alleged&nbsp;WhatsApp chats surfaced and Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned as the chief selector after conflict of interest allegations.

Kaneria wrote on X, "While Team Afghanistan is focusing more on cricket and less on politics, Team Pakistan is focused less on cricket and more on geopolitics. @TheRealPCB is downgrading the morale of its cricketers by constantly issuing removal warnings to the captain in case of poor performance. This is happening when team selection is already in question."

CWC 2023: 'PCB is downgrading the morale of Pakistan cricketers by constantly...' - Danish Kaneria

On Monday (Oct 30), a big development came from Pakistan cricket as Inzamam-ul-Haq, former Pakistan captain and 1992 ODI World Cup winner, stepped down as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector. This comes amid Babar Azam-led Pakistan's ODI World Cup struggles, where they have lost four games on the trot and are on the verge of an early exit. A lot of fingers were pointed at chief selector Inzamam post the national side's struggles. However, not many expected him to resign in the middle of the mega event in India.&nbsp;

Inzamam resigned&nbsp;after media reports claimed the former cricketer had a stake in a player’s management company registered with the PCB. The reports further claimed that&nbsp;several top players including Babar and Mohammad Rizwan were associated with the company. The veteran also reacted to his resignation. On Monday evening, he said in an interview, on&nbsp;SAMAA TV&nbsp;programme ‘Zor Ka Jor’ that he went to the board after the allegations and asked them to hold an inquiry. Following this, he decided to step down. He, however, claimed that he is willing to sit with the board after the completion of the probe.&nbsp;

<h2>'I am a human and it hurts. I have a 20-year cricket career....'</h2>

During the interaction, he said, "We are cricketers and we are available all the time to serve the country. Since I am facing an inquiry, and as the nature of my job is, I should step down and let them conduct the probe." He further pointed out, "I am a human and it hurts. I have a 20-year cricket career during which I represented Pakistan. I am not someone who people don’t know. When such allegations are levelled, it hurts.”

Inzamam denied having any link with the&nbsp;management company for players, namely Saya Corporation. In this regard, he added, "I must tell you very clearly that such companies are recommended by the ICC and PCB has all their data."

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said, "The committee will submit its report and any recommendations to the PCB management in an expeditious manner."

'When such allegations are levelled...': Inzamam on his resignation as PCB chief selector amid WC struggles

Pakistan Cricket, both on and off the field, is in shambles. While the cricket team has failed to produce noteworthy performances during World Cup 2023, the drama unfolding outside of it has created unrest among players and the board.&nbsp;

Following allegations laid by ex-Pakistan captain Rashid Latif on national TV of PCB head Zaka Ashraf avoiding Babar Azam’s call or messages, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Salman Naseer, cleared the air by allowing the WhatsApp chat between the two to get showcased on live TV.

After Latif’s remarks made headlines, a local TV channel contacted Zaka Ashraf to get clarity on the matter. Revealing the details of any conversation between the two, Zaka commented,&nbsp;

“He [Latif] says that I don’t pick up his [Babar’s] call,” Ashraf said. “He’s never given me a call. The chief operating officer or the director of international cricket is expected to speak with the captain of the team,” the PCB chief added.

To support his claim, Salman Naseer, on behalf of Zaka, during a live chat, allowed the interviewer to showcase the WhatsApp chat between the two. In the leaked WhatsApp chat revealed, Naseer asked Babar,&nbsp;“Babar, there’s also been news circulating on TV and social media that you have been calling Chairman, and he’s not answering. Have you lately given him a call?”

To which Babar’s response was, “Salam Salman bhai, I have not made any call to sir.”

<h2>Unrest in Pakistan Cricket</h2>

The Pakistan Team has won just two out of the six contested matches and suffered losses in four of them. Such results have impacted their chances of making the semis.

Although mathematically, they can still make through, given the unrest inside the dressing room and outside of it, they look unlikely to break loose and reach the final four.

Following losing to Afghanistan in a shocker in Chennai, the PCB released a statement asking fans and pundits to back the players instead of putting them under the bus.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan coach and legend Waqar Younis slammed those behind this episode, saying people involved must be happy now. Waqar requested fans and people to do this in future, as Babar is an asset to Pakistan cricket.&nbsp;

Babar Azam’s private chat leaked on TV; PCB chief Zaka Ashraf clarifies stance on alleged rift

Pakistan have not lived up to expectations so far in the ongoing ICC Men's ODI World Cup in India. After winning their first two games, Babar Azam-led Men in Green were on a roll before losing four games on the trot. Thus, they are languishing at the sixth position with four points, and a Net Run Rate of -0.387, and are on the brink of an early elimination. They faced high-flying South Africa in match 26 of the ten-team tournament on Friday (Oct 27), in Chennai, and went down by a wicket in a thriller, in defence of 270, to further decrease their chances of going ahead into the semi-finals.&nbsp;

However, Babar &amp; Co. are not out of the semi-final race as yet. There is a remote chance of them making it to the semi-finals but they need to win all their remaining games, that too by a big margin, and also hope for other results to go in their favour. As per a report in Cricket Addictor,&nbsp;Here are all the possible scenarios for the 1992 winners:

<h2>Pakistan's Qualification Scenario For Semi-Finals:</h2>

- To win all their remaining games, beat New Zealand, Bangladesh and England (by big margins as well)
- Hope for England,&nbsp;Afghanistan and Bangladesh to beat five-time winners Australia
- For Pakistan to remain alive, they need the Kiwis to&nbsp;defeat Sri Lanka
- Hope for India's win over the Netherlands.
- South Africa and Sri Lanka to beat Afghanistan, who have defeated Pakistan and England in the ongoing competition
- India or Bangladesh to defeat Sri Lanka

Talking about Pakistan's game versus the Proteas, the Babar-led side opted to bat first and rode on the captain's 50, Saud Shakeel's 52 and Shadab Khan's vital 43 to post 270 in 46.4 overs. In reply, Temba Bavuma-led South Africa chased down the score in the 48th over with one wicket in hand. Aiden Markram (91) and Tabraiz Shamsi (4 for 60 and 4 not out) were the star performers for the Proteas, with the latter earning the Player-of-the-Match award.&nbsp;

At the post-match presentation, Babar said after the loss, "We are very close, we did not finish&nbsp;well. Very disappointing for the whole team. We fought back very&nbsp;well. In the batting we were 10-15 short. The fast bowlers&nbsp;and spinners fought well but unfortunately it was not to be. It is part of the game, in DRS it is part of the game. Had he given it out, it would have favored us. We have an opportunity to win this and stay in the race but not to be. We will try our best in the next 3 matches and put our efforts and play for Pakistan. Let's see where we will stand after that."

CWC '23: How Pakistan can still qualify for semi-finals after four successive defeats - Scenarios EXPLAINED

Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has dropped a bombshell saying the national men's team players haven't been paid their salaries for the last five months. Latif's revelation comes at a time when Pakistan are on the precipice of crashing out of the World Cup in India after a string of disappointing performances.&nbsp;

According to Latif, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) informed players that the central contracts they had signed were now being reconsidered, which prompted captain Babar Azam to approach the governing body for cricket in the subcontinent nation.

Latif added that Babar was being ignored by the top officials of PCB as he attempted to have some clarification regarding the situation.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"In the Pakistani media, many things are happening. Perhaps they are false news. I will provide you with the true news, which was kept on hold. Babar Azam has been trying to contact the chairman for the past two days, but they are not responding. He is messaging Salman Naseer (Chief Operating Officer), and he is messaging Usman Walha (Director of International Cricket),” said Latif.&nbsp;

"If players haven't been paid for five months, do you think they will play?," he added.&nbsp;

The legendary Pakistan wicketkeeper stated that he had enough information about the rot in PCB that even a two-hour show would not be enough.&nbsp;

<h2>PCB issues statement denying rift</h2>

Latif making the rather scandalous claims comes days after PCB released a statement saying there was no rift within the Pakistan dressing room.&nbsp;

"The Pakistan Cricket Board strongly denies recent speculations about any internal discord in the national cricket team currently participating in the ICC World Cup 2023," read the statement.&nbsp;

"Contrary to rumours circulated by a certain section of the media, the PCB unequivocally assures that the team is cohesive and there is no evidence to support these unsubstantiated claims."

Some reports claimed that Babar and vice-captain Shadab Khan had a falling out after the latter was left out of the game against Australia. The off-field controversies might have had a negative effect on Pakistan's performance as the team has lost four games on the bounce and look all set to exit the quadrennial tournament.&nbsp;

Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has dropped a bombshell saying the national men's team players haven't been paid their salaries for the last five months. Latif's revelation comes at a time when Pakistan are on the precipice of crashing out of the World Cup in India after a string of disappointing performances. According to Latif, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) informed players that the central contracts they had signed were now being reconsidered, which prompted captain Babar Azam to approach the governing body for cricket in the subcontinent nation. Latif added that Babar was being ignored by the top officials of PCB as he attempted to have some clarification regarding the situation. "In the Pakistani media, many things are happening. Perhaps they are false news. I will provide you with the true news, which was kept on hold. Babar Azam has been trying to contact the chairman for the past two days, but they are not responding. He is messaging Salman Naseer (Chief Operating Officer), and he is messaging Usman Walha (Director of International Cricket),” said Latif. "If players haven't been paid for five months, do you think they will play?," he added. The legendary Pakistan wicketkeeper stated that he had enough information about the rot in PCB that even a two-hour show would not be enough. اور اب ذکاء… pic.twitter.com/QBgDnO14HS — Qadir Khawaja (@iamqadirkhawaja) October 27, 2023 × PCB issues statement denying rift Latif making the rather scandalous claims comes days after PCB released a statement saying there was no rift within the Pakistan dressing room. World Cup 2023: 'Players haven't been paid for 5 months', former Pakistan cricketer makes bombshell claim

Pakistan Cricket Team unlocked its worst record at the World Cups by losing their fourth straight game in this edition, this time to South Africa by just one wicket in Chennai the other night. Although unlike how they played in the matches before this, Pakistan were competitive and took the game to the wire, thanks to their seamers, but eventually fell shy of winning over the Proteas. Head coach Mickey Arthur shared his thoughts on an almost ‘perfect game’ for Pakistan, but first, he had a request for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

After Pakistan’s shocking defeat at the hands of Afghanistan at the same venue on Monday, PCB, in its efforts to curb the pressure on the team and the management, sent out a message for everyone, asking fans to support the team in this dark hour instead of criticising them.&nbsp;

Replying to the same, Arthur noted that despite the best efforts from everyone present inside the dressing room, the blame game, the ‘witch-hunt’ would begin. He urged the PCB to stop with it as Pakistan, mathematically, still has a chance of reaching the semis despite four losses in six matches.

"They're going to be blaming everybody, don't worry. It's just the way of the world,” Arthur said during the post-match presentation after South Africa’s game.

"It's really unfair to start a witch-hunt, certainly on Babar Azam, on Inzi [chief selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq], on our coaches, on the management team."

"What I do know is the boys have tried, and the effort of the coaching staff, the effort of the players has been first-class. If they would see the amount of effort that the players and staff put in, they would be amazed," the head coach added.

<h2>You never know – Arthur on team’s semis chances</h2>

Realistically, Pakistan looks unlikely to reach the semis, but with numbers involved, they can. Outside of winning their remaining matches with better NRRs, the Pakistan Team will rely on several permutations and combinations that could help them reach the last four.

With their bowling clicking this late in their campaign, Pakistan would give themselves another chance to stay alive in the tournament.&nbsp;

Speaking on the same lines, Arthur sounded optimistic and said, still anything can happen in regards to Pakistan making it to the semis.

"You never know," Arthur said of their lingering knock-out hopes.&nbsp;

"What I do know is that we need to go and assess combinations again, we need to have a look at the holes we have within our team. We need to we need to start improving in a lot of areas, and we've got to go home and finish this tournament with three victories. That's what I do know. Every day we'll be trying, and we'll be striving to do that."

Pakistan’s next match is against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday (Oct 31).

Arthur urges PCB to stop ‘witch-hunt’ in wake of Pakistan’s poor run, backs team for strong comeback in CWC

The Pakistan cricket team is in shambles at the moment. In the ongoing ODI World Cup, Babar Azam-led Men in Green have lost three games in a row after winning their first two. Thus, the 1992 winners find themselves at the fifth position and have a herculean task to revamp their campaign. Ahead of their upcoming clash versus South Africa in the south Indian city of Chennai on Friday (Oct 27), former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria has made a big claim. Kaneria slammed the team's performance and alleged that Hasan Ali, who was drafted in the side after Naseem Shah's injury, is playing only due to friendships.&nbsp;

<h2>'The selections were based on friendships and personal relationships'</h2>

Speaking to Aaj Tak, Kaneria pointed out that Pakistan team’s World Cup selections were based on friendships and personal relationships.

He opined, "When the squad was announced, I was sure that this wasn't a well-balanced team. The selections were based on friendships and personal relationships. I knew that this team would struggle in the World Cup. They talk about everything but strategy. They needed to understand that the conditions in India will favor batting and spin. The selection was totally wrong."

He said, "In Naseem Shah's absence, Pakistan are giving the new ball to Hasan Ali. Hasan Ali is only in the team because of friendships. Usama Mir plays for Multan Sultans, and Mushtaq Ahmed has good relations with Inzamam-ul-Haq. When a team is made for people's individual benefits and not for the country, you will only get such results."

Kaneria added, "When have two leg-spinners played together for Pakistan? When they played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the boundary is very short, Shadab Khan was dropped and Usama Mir was brought in. Also, why they didn't pick Imad Wasim."

A lot of questions have been raised on Pakistan's team combination, fitness and fielding standards, slow batting and ordinary bowling overall.&nbsp;

Amid so much criticism, it will be interesting to see how Babar &amp; Co. respond on the field versus the Proteas, who have been on a roll in this World Cup.

Temba Bavuma-led South Africa have played five games, winning four -- with a convincing margin -- and lost a solitary game to the Netherlands.&nbsp;

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has urged the fans to back the team ahead of their remaining ODI World Cup run-ins as Babar Azam’s men face an uphill task to make it to the last four. Having lost three consecutive matches at the ongoing ODI World Cup in India, Pakistan&nbsp;are now facing a tough prospect of winning all four matches to reach the semifinals.

The PCB has now urged the fans and entire cricketing fraternity including former players to support the team and overcome the odds to reach the last four.

<h2>PCB asks fans to support team</h2>

Addressing the media scrutiny directed at captain Babar Azam and the team management, the board's stance, echoing that of former cricketers, is that successes and defeats are part of the game.

Captain Babar Azam and Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq were given freedom and support in forming the squad for the ICC World Cup 2023.

The 1992 champions started the campaign on a high after registering wins against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. The latter win went down in the history books as the highest successful run chase in the history of the tournament. However, the team has since been on a decline, having lost to India, Australia, and Afghanistan. While defeats against India and Australia were not a big issue, their loss against Afghanistan saw the team face huge criticism.

<h2>What next for Pakistan?</h2>

Pakistan will now take on in-form South Africa on Friday (Oct 27) before facing Bangladesh and New Zealand. Defeats in two of these matches will see them pack their bags early and extend their 31-year wait for the ODI World Cup title. Currently, they occupy fifth place in the points table with four points in five matches and sit outside the semifinal places. Their Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.400 could be a decisive factor in them making the semifinals or not.

Pakistan faced similar prospects in the 2019 edition and later won five matches in a row only to finish outside the semifinal places.

Amid criticism of Pak team after lacklustre show at ODI World Cup, PCB urges fans to back Babar Azam & Co

Shaheen Afridi, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammed Rizwan are being discussed as potential candidates to replace Babar Azam as Pakistan captain after the national side returns home post the ODI World Cup. There have been a lot of questions on Babar's leadership in the ongoing ten-team tournament with three successive defeats, with the latest coming against Afghanistan in Chennai on Monday (Oct 23).&nbsp;

It is being said that the change in leadership role could take place soon as Pakistan's chances of making it to the semi-finals of the ongoing ODI World Cup look bleak at the moment. The Men in Green are scheduled to tour Australia soon after the World Cup and plans for the 2024 T20 World Cup will be in full swing post the mega event in India. Thus, a new captain can be appointed sooner than later.

<h2>What are Babar's chances of staying captain?</h2>

"Only if Pakistan can stage a miracle and win all their remaining matches to qualify for the semi-finals of this World Cup does Babar stand any chance of surviving as captain and even then he might be relegated to skipper in just the red ball format," one reliable source close to the developments said, as per PTI.

"It is over for Babar because he has been given unbridled power and authority as captain and more importantly he has always had players of his choice in the team. There has never been any attempt to reduce his authority and so he is now being held solely responsible for the Asia Cup and World Cup defeats," the source mentioned.

The source further revealed that despite advice from former captains such as Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammed Hafeez to make some changes to the final World Cup squad, Babar got all the 18 players he wanted and was backed by PCB chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq.&nbsp;

"The PCB Chairman, Zaka Ashraf ignored the advice of Misbah and Hafeez and some other former players whom he consulted as Babar was adamant he didn't want changes in the team for the World Cup," the source said.

Misbah, former captain and coach, also confirmed on a television channel that he had asked Babar to include mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed in the World Cup squad. However, the current skipper only added him as a travelling reserve.

It is to be noted that lobbies for the possible candidates, including Sarfaraz, Shaheen, Rizwan and Shan Masood have already started their work to get their candidate selected. In a likely scenario, the PCB is contemplating different captains for the red and white-ball formats.

"Sarfaraz might win the nod to captain the Test and ODI sides again while Shaheen may get a chance to be the T20 captain," the source added. Sarfaraz is not part of the Babar-led ODI World Cup squad.

Babar was appointed T20I captain in late 2019 but became the all-format skipper by 2021.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) lodged a complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over alleged "inappropriate crowd behaviour" during the Men in Green's clash versus India in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The match was held on Oct 14 (Saturday) in the west Indian city of Ahmedabad, where Rohit Sharma-led India thrashed Babar Azam's Pakistan by seven wickets.
