"PCB is disappointed to see that Pakistani journalists and fans are facing uncertainty about obtaining an Indian visa to cover Pakistan's opening game in the ICC World Cup. We understand the significant role that journalists and passionate fans play in enhancing the spirit and atmosphere of sports events."</p>

<p>"Their presence not only adds vibrancy to the stadium but also contributes to the global coverage and appreciation of the game. We hope to see their presence soon."</p>

<p>Pakistan fans and media persons would be hoping that their visas come through before the marquee clash against India on October 14 in Ahmedabad. Before that, the Men in Green play against Sri Lanka on October 10 in Hyderabad.</p>

<p>India, on the other hand, start their campaign against Australia on October 8 before taking on Afghanistan on October 11.</p>

<p>"The pressure of a World Cup is always massive. But I think our boys are in a really good place."</p>

<p>Pakistan&nbsp;appointed Arthur in April this year for a second stint, doubling up on his job with Derbyshire in the English county championship.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After all the drama surrounding the signing of the central contracts over the past three months, the Pakistan players and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have come to common ground as the new landmark deal is signed just before the start of the World Cup 2023.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the latest reports, the players have agreed to sign a first-of-its-kind deal, with PCB offering a hike, alongside providing them with a share in its revenue.</p>

<p>It has come after the players union ended their silent protest over the same, threatening to boycott endorsing the sponsored logos on their jerseys during the World Cup.</p>

<p>Since the board had not paid them any salary since the previous cycle ended on June 30, the players were also said to be upset with PCB functionalities. The players also denied participating in ICC-related media events (during the CWC) in their revert to the board over payment issues.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, in the new contract signed just ahead of the start of the World Cup, the PCB has offered a three-year deal – rather than the standard 12-month one, with a significant increase in their salaries, alongside the board providing them with a fixed share of revenue they receive from the ICC.</p>

<p>Since their previous contracts ended, Pakistan was involved in the Sri Lanka Tests, Afghanistan ODIs and Asia Cup 2023 and was playing without receiving any retainers or other financial compensation. Although Pakistan players were unlikely to appear in the World Cup without central contracts in their hands, captain Babar Azam didn’t mention anything regarding the same during his pre-departure conference on Tuesday.</p>

<p>The new central contract signing will see category A players receive PKR 4,500,000 (USD 15,590), more than four-fold than the previous year’s numbers. Also, the board had earlier offered category-A players to play in any one league outside of the PSL but agreed to allow all players under contract to play in two regardless of the category.</p>

<h2>Share in revenue is a big plus</h2>

<p>Outside of players receiving hikes, PCB offering them a fixed share of the revenue is the biggest talking point. After long negotiations, both parties agreed on the same ground of players receiving a 3 per cent share of the revenue amounting to around 1 million (the PCB is set to earn USD 34 million per year from next year as a share of ICC revenue).</p>

<p>The players will receive this share over and above their salaries.</p>

Pakistan players-PCB agree on landmark deal; new central contracts signed

<p>After much delay, Pakistan cricket team's visa issues have finally been sorted and they are now&nbsp;cleared to travel to&nbsp;India.</p>

<p>Earlier on Monday (September 25), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wrote to the International Cricket Council (ICC) raising 'serious concerns'&nbsp;over the delay in&nbsp;Babar Azam &amp; Co.'s&nbsp;travel to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup due to visa issues.</p>

<p>Later in the evening, the ICC confirmed&nbsp;that&nbsp;the Indian government approved the Pakistani team's visas for the mega event in the subcontinent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is to be noted that the visa clearance has come less than 48 hours before Pakistan's scheduled travel to India, via Dubai, in the early hours of September 27 (Wednesday).&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Visas have been issued to Pakistan," an ICC spokesperson told news agency PTI.</p>

<p>There is yet no end to the drama as confusion remained in the Pakistan camp over the grant of visa.</p>

<p>"We have not got the call from Indian High Commission yet over visa clearance. Member of our team is stationed there," PCB spokesperon Umar Farooq informed the same&nbsp;agency.</p>

<p>As per a report in Cricbuzz, it is believed that&nbsp;a 10-day process was always in place, with as many as&nbsp;three ministries in India --&nbsp;including External Affairs and Home --&nbsp;involved in the matter of giving clearance to Pakistani visas.</p>

<p>The same procedure is in line&nbsp;for all applications from Pakistan and, hence, there was no specific delay (as reported by PCB).</p>

<p>Moreover, the complaint stating that&nbsp;Pakistan squad could not travel to Dubai holds no significance&nbsp;because there was always the need for biometric tests.</p>

It is to be noted that the visa clearance has come less than 48 hours before Pakistan's scheduled travel to India, via Dubai, in the early hours of September 27 (Wednesday). "Visas have been issued to Pakistan," an ICC spokesperson told news agency PTI. There is yet no end to the drama as confusion remained in the Pakistan camp over the grant of visa. "We have not got the call from Indian High Commission yet over visa clearance. Member of our team is stationed there," PCB spokesperon Umar Farooq informed the same agency. As per a report in Cricbuzz, it is believed that a 10-day process was always in place, with as many as three ministries in India -- including External Affairs and Home -- involved in the matter of giving clearance to Pakistani visas. The same procedure is in line for all applications from Pakistan and, hence, there was no specific delay (as reported by PCB). <p>A Pakistani cricketer on the condition of staying anonymous, said they are even willing to play for free for the country but not ready to endorse sponsor logos on their jerseys affiliated with the board, on the account that their salaries are not paid on time.</p>

<p>The player also admitted the Pakistan Cricket Team may deny participating in ICC-related media events during the World Cup, putting the board’s and team’s reputation at stake.</p>

<p>"We are willing to represent Pakistan for free, but our question is why we should promote sponsors' logos that are affiliated with the board. Similarly, we may decline to participate in promotional activities and other events. During the World Cup, we won't engage in ICC's commercial promotions and activities either,” an unnamed Pakistan cricketer told Pakistan Cricket.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The sources close to the information revealed top players (across all formats) would receive an impressive monthly retainer fee of PKR 4.5 million; however, after taxes and deductions, they would only receive around PKR 2.2 to 2.3 million, something the players are negotiating over.</p>

<p>While the players are now said to be demanding a share of the revenue the PCB received from the ICC and sponsors, the Pakistan Cricket Board feel the contracts offered to the players are fair and that players’ agents are trying to influence their stance as things stand.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Pakistan is set to fly to India for the World Cup 2023 in a couple of days, playing their first of the two warm-up games against New Zealand in Hyderabad on September 29.</p>

PCB release medical update on Naseem Shah's shoulder injury; optimistic over ODI World Cup inclusion

<p>Pakistan cricket is getting mired in all sorts of controversies ahead of the ODI World Cup which scheduled to start next month on October 5. While Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been criticised for his captaincy during the Asia Cup, there have been reports of rift between him and players as well after Men in Green crashed out after losing to Sri Lanka.</p>

<p>Babar was most criticised for letting foot off the pedal during group stage match against India in the regional tournament. Pakistan pacers had pinned India down at 66/4 in nearly 17 overs when Babar decided to go with Shadab Khan despite the spinner not being effective.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking on the issue, former Pakistan great Younis Khan said that there's 'pattern' in the side that we think about winning combinations a lot and not use back-up. Younis gave the example of Mohammad Rizwan and Sarfaraz Ahmed to support his argument.</p>

<p>Pakistan pace bowler Naseem Shah has been ruled out of the remainder of the Asia Cup 2023 with a shoulder injury. The fast bowler had injured his shoulder in Super Four clash against India on September 11 towards the end of India's innings. Zaman Khan has been called up by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as a replacement.</p>

<p>Pakistan will be playing Sri Lanka on September 14 in a virtual semi-final to set up the title clash against India on September 17. The PCB has said that the bowler is continuously being "monitored by the team's medical panel that is taking all necessary precautions."</p>

<p>Naseem is one of the integral members of the Pakistan pace attack which also comprises Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. Together, the trio makes one of the most complete and fearsome pace bowling attacks in the world as was visible during the Asia Cup group stage clash against India where they had taken all 10 wickets.</p>

Sri Lanka Cricket's chief executive Ashley de Silva also spoke to ESPNCricinfo and said that the reason ACC opted to keep matches in Colombo is because "a lot of fans had already made arrangements to watch the matches in Colombo" and "the last few days it hasn't been raining as much" in Colombo.</p>

Sethi, who was in charge of the board when the decision of Pakistan and Sri Lanka to co-host the Asia Cup broke out, had suggested UAE as one of the alternatives, which BCCI denied due to unfavourable playing conditions during these months.</p>

<p>Owing to strained relations between India and Pakistan, the Indian government&nbsp;denied BCCI permission to allow its team to travel to Pakistan – the original host of this year’s Asia Cup. After learning about India’s stance, the PCB had to compromise on the hosting rights as Sri Lanka and not the UAE was roped in as the last-moment co-host of the six-team tournament.</p>

<p>Pakistan's middle-order was the highlight in&nbsp;their recent&nbsp;3-0 win against Afghanistan and the same was on display in Asia Cup 2023 opener against Nepal on Wednesday, August 30. Batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan lost two wickets in quick succession twice during the innings before skipper Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed joined forces.</p>

<p>While Babar scored 151, his 19th ODI ton, Ahmed went on to record his first ODI century and finished 109 not out off just 71 balls. The duo added 214 runs for the fifth wicket as Pakistan scored 342/6 in 50 overs. <p>Aged 32 years and 361 days, Ahmed became the second oldest player to score his first ODI century for Pakistan. The only player ahead of him is Zaheer Abbas who was 34 years 146 days old when he scored his maiden ton in ODIs in 1981 against Australia.</p>

<p>Ahmed's innings was divided in two parts - his first fifty runs came off 43 balls while the second 50 came in 24 balls. With a ton off 67 balls, Ahmed also joined the list of fastest centuries for Pakistan in ODIs. He currently is joint-fifth on the list with former cricketer Shahid Afridi on top three places having scored a ton off 37, 45 and 53 balls. The next two places go to Sharjeel Khan and Basit Ali who had scored an ODI hundred off 61 and 67 balls, respectively.</p>

<p>In anticipation of a large number of fans travelling from all across the world for the India vs Pakistan match – first time on the Indian soil since 2016, Ahmedabad stays as the front-runner to play host ahead of several other iconic venues like the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and M Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru. With a sitting capacity of over 100,000, this stadium is also the largest in India.</p>

<p>As per a report in the Indian Express, the board has zeroed in on 12 tentative venues for the World Cup – scheduled for October-November this year, with Nagpur, Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Rajkot, Indore, Bengaluru and Dharamsala short-listed, even for practice games.</p>

<p>Among all these venues, only seven will host Indian team matches, with Ahmedabad being the one to host two – provided Rohit Sharma’s team reach the summit clash.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the report also suggests that Pakistan could play most of their league matches down south – Chennai or Bengaluru, purely for security reasons. Besides, Eden Gardens is also considered the other venue for the Pakistan games. Also, for Bangladesh, Kolkata and Guwahati are considered venues, as it would reduce the travel time of the touring fans.</p>

<p>Further, considering the Oct-Nov window being the monsoon season in India, most matches would take place in southern India until the first week of November.</p>

<p>Speaking exclusively to Reuters, the PCB chief urged the Indian cricket board to find a middle way and not let cricket suffer in all of this. He said if this continues - that India and Pakistan both decide to skip the multi-team tournaments this year, it could lead to a 'real mess.'</p>

<p>"They want all the matches in a neutral venue," Sethi said in a Zoom interview with Reuters.</p>

<p>"BCCI should take a good, rational decision so that we don't have any problems going forward. India should not be looking at a situation where we end up boycotting the Asia Cup, and also the World Cup, and then India ends up boycotting the Champions Trophy.</p>

<p>"That will be a huge mess," Sethi said.</p>

<p>On BCCI’s stance of not sending its team to Pakistan due to security reasons, Sethi said even PCB have its reservations over security in India, and that if the Pakistan board lose the Asia Cup’s hosting rights, they would ensure Pakistan is also boycotting the 50-over World Cup in India.</p>

<p>Pakistan's foreign ministry is looking into all aspects of the team's participation in the Men's ODI World Cup later this year in India. It comes as a first step towards taking up long-pending issues from Pakistan's front, which also resulted in the delay of the schedule announcement for the mega event.</p>

<p>As made clear by the outgoing Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, Najam Sethi, the team's participation is subject to their government's approval.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Following the release of the draft schedule by the ICC last week that required every participating team's final approval before going public, PCB wrote to the governing body expressing disapproval over venues for a couple of matches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Per the draft, Pakistan will play Australia in Bengaluru on October 20 and Afghanistan in Chennai on October 23, but have requested to swap venues for these two games. Though both the ICC and the host BCCI denied their request.</p>

<p>Upon granting hosting rights for this year's Asia Cup to Pakistan, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), chaired by Jay Shah - also BCCI's secretary, announced India will not travel to Pakistan for the same owing to long-standing political tensions between two countries.</p>

<p>As a result, Sri Lanka will now co-host the multi-team tournament with Pakistan from August 31 to September 17. While the original host Pakistan will host only four matches, the island nation will host remaining nine games, including all of India's matches.</p>

<p>Upset over last-minute snatching of hosting rights, PCB also threatened to boycott the upcoming World Cup in India.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the schedule for cricket's biggest carnival this year is expected to be out by next week.</p>

<p>Following BCCI’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, which will now be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka – India will play&nbsp;its matches in the Island Nation only, the PCB and the Pakistan Government retaliated, claiming they will also not allow the Pakistan side to travel to India for the mega event later this year.</p>

<p>Speaking on his experience of playing in India, Misbah said under his captaincy, the Pakistan team enjoyed the pressure of the home crowd and the conditions also suited them. He also urged the government to take a positive call and allow the team to go and play in the World Cup.</p>

<p>"Certainly, Pakistan should be playing in the World Cup even in India," he said. "The many times I have played in India, we have enjoyed the pressure and crowds there because it gives you motivation and conditions in India suit us. Our team has the capability to do well in Indian conditions."</p>

<h2>Aim should be to win the World Cup</h2>

<p>Misbah said instead of thinking what is happening outside of the cricketing sphere, the Babar Azam-led side must only think about playing the right combination and aim for the glory.</p>

<p>"What is happening outside their sphere, they should not think about it. The key to doing well in the World Cup in India is to get the playing XIs right at particular venues and against particular opposition,” Misbah added.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, if all goes well, Pakistan will play its opening match of the CWC 2023 against the Netherlands on October 6 in Hyderabad. Their big clash against India is scheduled for October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.</p>

The Pakistan cricket board has been forced to republish a promotional video highlighting the country's key achievements in the sport as the initial video released on Pakistan's Independence Day didn't have a single visual of Imran Khan. The former Captain Waseem Akram led the backlash against the PCB for airbrushing the former prime minister but also Pakistan's greatest cricketer out of the earlier video three days after uploading the original clip on the microblogging site X formerly known as Twitter. The PCB has put out an updated version which they call the complete version the PCB attempted to do damage control by claiming some important Clips had been omitted due to time constraints.

Wasim Akram slams PCB for ignoring Imran Khan in promotional video, says 'they should apologise'

<p>The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video on Pakistan cricket on the country's 76th Independence Day on Monday (August 14).&nbsp;The two-minute 21-second clip traced back to Pakistan's international cricket debut in 1952 and captured some of their biggest moments, such as the&nbsp;historic ODI World Cup triumph in 1992 till the 2022 T20 World Cup where Babar Azam-led Men in Green reached the final.</p>

<p>However, the video has not been well-received by the Pakistan cricket fans. The short clip is facing a severe backlash as it did not involve Imran Khan, the national captain and former prime minister who led Pakistan to their first-ever mega title during the 1992 ODI World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.</p>

<p>The caption of the video reads, "Making history isn't just about one day; it's about the legends we create and the tales we script. Pakistan Cricket Team – a legacy that echoes through time."</p>

<p>The viral clip comprised some big names from Pakistan cricket such as Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, Shahid Afridi, and Babar.</p>

<p>It displayed some of their glorious moments in 1992 win, the 2009 T20 World Cup victory and&nbsp;2017 Champions Trophy win, where they trounced India in the summit clash. However, Imran -- a veteran of 88 Tests and 175 ODIs -- was nowhere to be found.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Imran has been a huge name in Pakistan cricket. He remains one of the finest cricketers of all time. He ended with&nbsp;3,807 and&nbsp;3,709 Test and ODI runs, respectively, along with claiming a total of 544 international wickets (362 of them came in the purest format) during his sparkling international career (spanning from 1971-1994). He turned to politics and served as Pakistan's Prime Minister (the country's 22nd overall) from August 2018 to April 2022.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from Imran, the likes of Mohammad Yousuf -- who still holds the record for the most runs in a calendar year in Tests --&nbsp;and former opener Saeed Anwar were also not part of the PCB video.&nbsp;</p>

The viral clip comprised some big names from Pakistan cricket such as Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, Shahid Afridi, and Babar. It displayed some of their glorious moments in 1992 win, the 2009 T20 World Cup victory and 2017 Champions Trophy win, where they trounced India in the summit clash. <p>India skipper Rohit Sharma has always been known for his wit during press conferences and while talking to reporters. Sharma's quick-wittedness&nbsp;was on display during a recent event in the USA when he was asked about the best Pakistan bowler in the current team</p>

<p>"All the pacers in Pakistan team are equally good. I will not name any particular individual. It creates big controversy (not verbatim),” says Rohit in a video shared on Instagram when asked about who's the best Pakistan bowler.</p>

India skipper Rohit Sharma's CHEEKY response on who's best Pakistan bowler - WATCH

<p>Former skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has been named Pakistan chief selector for a second term. Inzamam will fill the post which has been lying vacant since Haroon Rasheed quit from the post last month. Inzamam will now no longer be a part of Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) cricket technical committee, reported ESPNCricinfo.</p>

<p>Inzamam was appointed to the committee last week itself along with Mohammad Hafeez and Misbah-ul-haq as the third member and head of the committee.</p>

<p>The first task of the committee was to appoint a chief selector. The PCB, however, has said that Inzamam has been appointed by the PCB chief Zaka Ashraf rather than the committee doing it.</p>

<p>Inzamam, who was the chief selector from 2016 to 2019 as well, will be responsible for announcing the squads for upcoming three-ODI series against Sri Lanka and the Asia Cup. The squads for both tournaments would be announced by Inzamam in a press conference on August 10, reported ESPNCricinfo.</p>

<p>The former skipper was also the chief selector of the team during the last ICC ODI World Cup as well and will be selecting the squad for this edition as well. The ODI World Cup is scheduled to be played in India from October 5 to November 19.</p>

<p>As for his place in the technical committee, ESPNCricinfo reported citing the PCB that a replacement will be announced in the due course of time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Inzamam, one of Pakistan's most prolific batsmen, was the member of 1992 World Cup-winning team under Imran Khan. As for his career numbers, Inzamam played 378 ODIs for Pakistan and scored 11,739 runs with 83 fifties and 10 centuries. In whites, he played 120 games, scoring 8,830 runs along with 46 fifties and 25 hundreds.</p>

<p>Inzamam captained Pakistan in both ODIs and Tests from 2001-02 to his retirement in 2007.</p>

<p>After the end of Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka, Mohammed Hafeez -- former Men in Green skipper and 2017 Champions Trophy winner -- is expected to take over as the national team's chief selector. Hafeez, who&nbsp;represented Pakistan in 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is, has been a huge contributor to&nbsp;Pakistan cricket and is expected to take over a&nbsp;post&nbsp;that is lying vacant after Pakistan Cricket Board's Cricket Management Committee (CMC) got dissolved in June.</p>

<p>As per sources, Hafeez is being favoured by the newly-appointed PCB chief Zaka Ashraf.&nbsp;"Zaka met with former captains&nbsp;Rashid Latif and Hafeez and spoke to them about becoming chief selector. Rashid was not keen on the job but Hafeez (has) expressed his availability,” a&nbsp;source told PTI.</p>

<p>"Rashid was more interested in working on anti-corruption issues. Hafeez who played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is for Pakistan before retiring last year, made it clear that he would like the challenge of working as the chief selector," he&nbsp;opined.</p>

<p>Hafeez made his international debut in 2003 and went on to represent the country in all three forms of the game. He ended his glittering career with 3,652,&nbsp;6,614 and 2,514 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively. In addition, he was a handy spinner who returned with a total of 253 scalps at the highest level. The former batter also led Pakistan in the shortest format, being in-charge of the side during the 2012 and 2014 T20 World Cup. In the 2012 edition, the one-time winners reached the semi-final under Hafeez's captaincy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The source further revealed that Ashraf is yet to decide whether to change the entire selection committee&nbsp;or just name a new chief selector, who will succeed Haroon&nbsp;Rasheed.</p>

<p>"It is unlikely the entire selection committee will be changed because of the heavy schedule of the Pakistan team after the Sri Lanka tour as Afghanistan have also confirmed a ODI series in Sri Lanka in August before the Asia Cup," the source added.</p>

After the end of Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka, Mohammed Hafeez -- former Men in Green skipper and 2017 Champions Trophy winner -- is expected to take over as the national team's chief selector.

After the end of Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka, Mohammed Hafeez -- former Men in Green skipper and 2017 Champions Trophy winner -- is expected to take over as the national team's chief selector. Hafeez, who represented Pakistan in 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is, has been a huge contributor to Pakistan cricket and is expected to take over a post that is lying vacant after Pakistan Cricket Board's Cricket Management Committee (CMC) got dissolved in June. As per sources, Hafeez is being favoured by the newly-appointed PCB chief Zaka Ashraf. "Zaka met with former captains Rashid Latif and Hafeez and spoke to them about becoming chief selector. Rashid was not keen on the job but Hafeez (has) expressed his availability,” a source told PTI. "Rashid was more interested in working on anti-corruption issues. Hafeez who played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is for Pakistan before retiring last year, made it clear that he would like the challenge of working as the chief selector," he opined. He ended his glittering career with 3,652, 6,614 and 2,514 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively. In addition, he was a handy spinner who returned with a total of 253 scalps at the highest level. The former batter also led Pakistan in the shortest format, being in-charge of the side during the 2012 and 2014 T20 World Cup. In the 2012 edition, the one-time winners reached the semi-final under Hafeez's captaincy. The source further revealed that Ashraf is yet to decide whether to change the entire selection committee or just name a new chief selector, who will succeed Haroon Rasheed. "It is unlikely the entire selection committee will be changed because of the heavy schedule of the Pakistan team after the Sri Lanka tour as Afghanistan have also confirmed a ODI series in Sri Lanka in August before the Asia Cup," the source added.
