In another blow to the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) quest to host this year’s Asia Cup, the Sri Lankan and Bangladesh cricket boards have reportedly backed BCCI over not sending their side to Pakistan for the multi-team tournament. The two cricket boards are also supporting the Indian cricket board's push to move the 2023 Asia Cup out of the country.

As per a report in Geo News, BCCI’s close allies are mulling over staging the 2023 Asia Cup, in case it gets moved out of Pakistan. Reports suggest that if the tournament is hosted at a neutral venue and Pakistan decides against participating, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) could consider replacing them with UAE.

Earlier, after allotting Pakistan the chance to host the Asia Cup for the first time since 2008, Jay Shah - who is BCCI and also ACC’s president, said the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the same and instead backed the idea of hosting the event outside the country.

Replying to this, PCB chief Najam Sethi, during the previous ACC meetings, said if what all said is done, then Pakistan might also consider boycotting the 50-over World Cup in India later this year.

Instead, PCB suggested a hybrid model for the 2023 Asia Cup wherein the Indian team will play its matches outside of Pakistan – to which the BCCI denied the proposal suggesting this will make things awkward for both boards.

Meanwhile, the report also said that Narendra Modi-led Indian government had urged BCCI to take a stricter stance over the same in the next ACC meeting. Also, Jay Shah is believed to have promised the broadcasters that the losses suffered due to Pakistan’s absence in the 2023 Asia Cup will get compensated during a series involving India shortly.

Earlier, Najam Sethi talked about ending this crisis among boards to ensure cricket is not suffering. He said instead of all of this, a middle way should be found things should go forward.

“In case of India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan to compete in the Asia Cup, chances are there that the Pakistan government would not allow the Men in Green to cross the borders for their World Cup participation. In that case, cricket will be the ultimate sufferer,” Sethi said, as quoted in Geo News.

“There should be a middle way to solve problems that surely threaten the smooth hosting of ICC and ACC events. In case of India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the government will not allow us to travel to India to figure in the World Cup matches,” Sethi added.

Sri Lanka, Bangladesh lend support to BCCI over not sending Indian team to Pakistan for Asia Cup - Reports

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Rajs is baffled by the appointment of Mickey Arthur as the new Director of Cricket. On Thursday, the PCB announced the much-awaited appointment of the former head coach to take over the new role for an undisclosed period.

Raja, who unceremoniously got removed as the PCB chief following England's historic Test tour of Pakistan in December last year, launched a scathing attack on the board over Arthur's selection, calling it 'as crazy as a clown in a village circus'.

Speaking with Cricbuzz, Raja said, "A first-of-its-kind coach/director of cricket picked to run Pakistan cricket remotely, whose loyalty is first with his county job than Pakistan cricket. This is as crazy as a clown in a village circus."

He further tore into the board's call to bring back Najam Sethi as the new boss, claiming that Sethi doesn't understand the game and probably was never good enough to break into a club XI.

"A PCB chairman who doesn't understand cricket probably was not even good enough to make it to the XI in a club game, heads a cabal of political, petty-minded club runners for a management committee to run Pakistan cricket affairs, who are on a Rs 12 lakhs a month salary," Raja added.

As reported earlier, Arthur will work with the Pakistan Men's Cricket team remotely - meaning he will be involved in designing, formulating and even overseeing strategies for the team, but will not be present with them physically, owing to his commitment with the Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

"He (Arthur) will also be a part of the coaching staff for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, away tour to Australia and home series against the West Indies. He will also be present with the side for Pakistan's matches against India in the ACC Asia Cup," the PCB said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, it is for the second time that Mickey Arthur is getting connected with Pakistan Men's Cricket team, having earlier coached them during 2016-2019 - where he guided them to their maiden Champions Trophy in England.

Mickey Arthur's appointment as PCB's new Director of Cricket baffles Ramiz Raja

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) interim management committee led by President Najam Sethi will have an extended term. This comes a day after former coach Mickey Arthur was appointed as Director of the Pakistan Men's Cricket Team. The extension however will last for two to four weeks which will see them reimplement the board's 2014 constitution.

According to ESPNcricinfo’s report, Ehsan-ur-Rehman Mazari, the Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), confirmed that a request for the extension had been made to the Prime Minister and that they have requested to name two nominees for the new board, one of whom is expected to become the PCB chairman.

The committee was initially given a term of 120 days, which will expire on Saturday.

A copy of the IPC summary to the Prime Minister's office, seen by ESPNcricinfo, reads: "The tenure of the management committee expires on April 21 and PCB is directed to submit a comprehensive report of activities so far after the revival of the PCB constitution of 2014 from 22 December 2022 to 20 April 2023. Following the development, the IPC is in its opinion to extend the tenure of the committee for a period of two to four weeks (maximum) to materialise the outcome of the action."

It is hoped that the new management could come into effect after the New Zealand series that is taking place at the moment. While nothing is clear yet, Sethi could still lead the new management despite getting some opposition in the country.

The new board committee will have the responsibility to oversee the ODI World Cup in India, where there are still doubts about whether they will visit India or not. On the horizon, the board will first have to deal with the Asia Cup issue, where Pakistan is the host while India has refused to visit due to poor diplomatic relations between the nations.

Sethi was selected to lead the 14-member management committee to run the PCB's affairs on an interim basis in December 2022. This came after former president Ramiz Raja was shown the exit doors while the board’s 2019 constitution was also abolished.

Pakistan Cricket Board's newest recruit Mickey Arthur, who rejoined them, this time as the Director of Cricket, has showered praises on the Men's team captain Babar Azam, calling him the best batter in the world right now. Arthur also said the Pakistan team has it in them to win the world cup and become number one across all formats.

A lot has been said and written about the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition. Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the continental tournament and remain firm on their stance. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are also adamant to host the event and many of their former cricketers have suggested for the Men in Green to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, if their Asian neighbours do not visit them for Asia Cup.

Recently, multiple reports have suggested that talks are on for India to play their games elsewhere while Pakistan can continue to host the whole tournament. Amid all this, Pakistan legend Javed Miandad has come out with an absurd remark on the entire matter.

"Forget security. We believe that agar maut aani hai toh aani hai. Zindagi aur maut toh allah ke haath mein hai..(If death is your destiny, it will come for sure. Life and death are in the hands of the Almighty)," Miandad said in the podcast hosted by Nadir Ali.

Meanwhile, PCB chairman Najam Sethi recently said, as quoted by India Today, "We have made it very clear that unless the Asia Cup is held on a hybrid model like we have proposed, that is India playing its matches at an offshore venue and Pakistan hosting the remaining games at home, we will not accept any other schedule and neither play."

"We will not lose our hosting rights. Security is no excuse for them now and we have told them if their government is not giving them clearance to play in Pakistan, show us some written proof of this," Sethi added.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for this year's Asia Cup. It is set to be held in September ahead of this year's ODI WC in India, in October-November.

Amid earlier reports claiming that Islamabad Police has denied providing security to the travelling New Zealand team for their upcoming white-ball tour of Pakistan, the concerned department refuted those claims by promising to abide by their duties in a tweet posted on Sunday. ICTP claim to provide fool-proof, world-class security to the Kiwi side, who will depart for Pakistan on April 9th for five-match T20Is, and ODI series.

Like how they provided the highest level of security to the England team during their visit to the country last year, the Islamabad Police would continue doing that during this series.

Meanwhile, as per a report in the Geo News earlier in Pakistan, the Islamabad Police refused to provide security, citing reasons that they don’t have resources for the same.

"The police does not have resources for providing security," the sources in the Police department told Geo News.

The sources further claimed that the police force is busy performing duties at free flour distribution centres, ongoing census, and other places that are related to the holy month of Ramadan.

While off the ten slated matches, five T20Is and as many ODIs, three of them – including two T20Is and one ODI will be played at the Pindi stadium; the touring New Zealand team will stay at a hotel in the capital city and will travel to Pindi for those games.

Following the two-match Test series against New Zealand in December-January early this year, the white-ball leg is about to begin in Lahore on April 14th. With the first three T20I games to take place in Lahore, the action will move to Rawalpindi for the next three matches before the final four games take place at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Given the senior Kiwi players have opted out of the tour owing to their participation in the Indian Premier League, New Zealand will be sending a relatively younger squad on this tour. Experienced campaigner Tom Latham will lead the side in Kane Williamson’s absence, who while playing in Gujarat Titans' first match against CSK injured his leg, and is now ruled out for an indefinite time.

These comments have come on the back of the latest reports suggesting that BCCI and PCB have decided against travelling to Pakistan and India, respectively, for the slated mega events later this year.

Out of power for now, Imran further said BCCI’s decision of not allowing Pakistan players to play in the IPL and then going vocal about their disinterest in travelling to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup reflects their arrogance.

Speaking to Times Radio, as reported by NDTV, Imran said, "I find it strange that the Indian cricket board would take it out on the Pakistan cricket players (by not allowing them to feature in the IPL), and it just reeks of arrogance. If India doesn't allow Pakistan players (to play IPL), so be it. Pakistan should not worry about it," he added.

BCCI, perhaps the richest cricket board in world cricket, was part of the Big Three including Cricket Australia and ECB. Over time, the Indian board became powerful in terms of generating revenue through their premier T20 tournament in IPL and with their reach and engagement across all spheres. On the field, India’s performance since the past decade speaks for itself though they are yet to put their hands on trophies despite coming close on a few occasions lately.

Elaborating on the same lines, Imran added that India’s ability to raise funds brought arrogance into their behaviour and that they almost dictate the terms in world cricket.

"It is unfortunate, the relationship between Pakistan and India. There is a lot of arrogance in the way India now behaves in the cricketing world as a superpower. Because of their ability to generate a lot of funds, a lot more than any other country, I think they almost dictate now as a sort of the arrogance of a superpower of whom they should play and who they shouldn't," said Imran.

Meanwhile, the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League began on Friday, March 31st and will go on till May 21st.

Besides this, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is yet to finalise the venue for the 2023 Asia Cup that was earlier scheduled to take place in Pakistan.

A second-stringed Pakistan line-up locked horns with Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series recently, where the Shadab Khan-led Men in Green lost 2-1. After the series, a lot of questions were raised on the Pakistan team management for experimenting with the team as they went in with some inexperienced players and rested the likes of regular captain Babar Azam, Md Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi. Among the inexperienced bunch, a lot of eyes were on former Pakistan keeper-batter Moin Khan's son Azam. Azam Khan failed to get going and now ex-player Aaquib Javed has severely criticised him.

Azam had a good run in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition, where he scored 238 runs at 161.90, but fell flat in the Afghanistan series and returned with 0 and 1 before being dropped for the third game, which Pakistan won by 66 runs. After his flop show, questions were raised on his selection -- with a spectator trolling him for his fitness and eating habits during the second T20I -- and now Javed has made a big remark.

"I am not sure what sort of experiment this was. It's clear to me that no consideration was taken when selecting the squad for this series about what standard of skills and fitness levels are needed to represent Pakistan.

"If I was a player in that squad, I would have refused to play with this team. First, at least attain some levels of fitness before playing. Hopefully, they will have learned from this," Javed was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan lost the series opener by six wickets and fought hard but went down in the following game as well, by seven wickets, before playing for pride in the final encounter and winning it by 66 runs in Sharjah. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Azam, who didn't impress both as a batter and wicketkeeper, will aim for a solid comeback in his next series for the national side.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) stand on playing in India for ODI World Cup took another twist on Thursday after the latest report. According to a report from Asian News International (ANI), PCB wants its cricket team to play in Sri Lanka or Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup with their stand still not clear. The stand of Pakistan came into the limelight after India refused to play in Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.

“Yes, we are thinking that we will not travel to India for World Cup matches if BCCI didn’t send their team to Pakistan for Asia Cup. We want Sri Lanka or Bangladesh to host our matches, we want to play there, and not in India,” a PCB source told ANI.

ICC clear air on Bangladesh option

After reports from ESPNcricinfo on Wednesday, Pakistan is exploring the option of using Bangladesh as a neutral venue for the ODI World Cup. According to the report, Bangladesh possesses perfect conditions similar to India and could help organise Pakistan’s matches.

However, International Cricket Council (ICC) officials said that Bangladesh was not an option for the showpiece event as a neutral venue. There were no discussions in the recently concluded ICC meetings on using Bangladesh as the neutral venue while India are exploring the option of using a neutral venue for the Asia Cup 2023 where Pakistan is the host.

"Bangladesh was not discussed at all at the Board meeting and full backing for the event [World Cup] in India was given by the Board. We're focused on that," an ICC official told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

Earlier, Wasim had said that Pakistan might end up playing their 2023 World Cup matches at a neutral venue instead of India.

“I don’t think that Pakistan will play their World Cup matches in India. I think their matches will also be held at a neutral venue just like India’s Asia Cup matches,” Wasim told a local news channel.

ODI World Cup 2023: PCB open to neutral venue after Sri Lanka emerges as another potential option - Report

Former South Africa seamer Morne Morkel is appointed as the new bowling coach of the Pakistan Men’s Cricket team, while the board has also picked former Proteas keeper-batter Andrew Puttick as the new batting coach. In addition, former Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur will return to the PCB setup as the consultant while he continues as head coach of Derbyshire.

Arthur, in the first of-its-kind setup, was chosen as the remote team director, while he was accounted for assigning a coaching panel consisting of all overseas coaches. While ex-Pakistan fielding coach Grant Bradburn will be the head coach, physiotherapist Cliffe Deacon and strength and conditioning coach Drikus Saaiman will continue with their jobs.

Lanky Morkel is currently involved with Lucknow Super Giants as its bowling coach and will join the Pakistan team following his IPL commitment. Earlier, Morkel was part of the Namibian coaching staff during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia and then coached Durban's Super Giants in SA20.

The 42-year-old Puttick will join the Pakistan squad in April. Before this, Puttick was a South African women’s team batting coach in the T20 World Cup. Having made just one appearance for the Proteas in 2005, Puttick has remained closely associated with South Africa as a batting consultant.

As per reports, Arthur will work remotely in a special arrangement with the PCB. He will travel to Lahore next month and then will return to join the Pakistan squad just ahead of the World Cup in October. Besides, he will not travel with the team for their tour to Sri Lanka or any bilateral series, not even for the home Asia Cup.

Against Afghanistan during the recently-concluded three-match T20Is that Pakistan lost 1-2, interim coaches were assigned as the board decided against renewing Saqlin Mushtaq and Shaun Tait’s contracts. Next, Pakistan will host New Zealand for five T20Is and as many ODIs, starting April 14th.

South Africa's Morne Morkel to join Pakistan men's team as new bowling coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to explore their options of playing at a neutral venue in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The idea which has been initiated after India’s refusal to play in Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 has left PCB to explore their chances with the World Cup now just a little over six months away. If this is the case according to a report, Pakistan could be seen playing in Bangladesh despite India being the sole host of the showpiece event.

What is on agenda?

In a recently concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting, one of the agendas discussed was an option for India’s potential neutral venue for the Asia Cup. This comes after India refused to visit their neighbours for the Asia Cup 2023, raising further friction between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

With India, all set to play Asia Cup at a neutral venue in UAE, Oman, Sri Lanka, or England, the Pakistan cricket team is also determined not to visit India for the ODI World Cup according to a report from Espncricinfo. If this is the case, Pakistan like India in the Asia Cup will use a neutral venue to play their World Cup matches.

The meeting in Dubai was in place to resolve the matter surrounding future scenarios as well with the 2025 Champions Trophy also a point of discussion. India are determined not to visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy in February 2025 and thus leaving an option of hosting both India and Pakistan matches at a neutral venue albeit of the competition.

In this scenario, Bangladesh will likely host Pakistan's matches as they remain in the geographical radius of the World Cup host India while also allowing the integrity of the game to be on agenda, Bangladesh possesses the same weather and atmosphere as India and could suit them if they opt for a neutral venue.

This will include India vs Pakistan clash in Asia Cup and potentially the World Cup and Champions Trophy matches as well. However, considering BCCI’s own stand, they may still allow Pakistan to play their league matches away from India, but due to sponsorship and broadcasting reasons, their World Cup clash against India and the knockout stage matches look unlikely to move away from the original host.

While there is no official word on the report, India and Pakistan look no closer to renewing their rivalry in a bilateral series. Not since December 2007 have the great rivals played in a Test series while their all recent meetings have come in continental and international competitions. The last meeting between the sides came in October 2022 at the T20 World Cup in Australia and are likely to meet at the ODI World Cup as well.

ODI World Cup 2023: Pakistan likely to play outside India; Bangladesh emerges as potential option - Reports

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are at loggerheads over the venue of two marquee events to be played this year - Asia Cup in September 2023 in Pakistan and ICC ODI World Cup in India after that. After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) too threatened to pull back from travelling to India for the ICC ODI World Cup.

Amid the tussle, media outlet, ESPNCricinfo has reported that a neutral venue is being discussed as a possibility for the matches involving the Indian cricket team. A lot of former Pakistan player, including Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar, however, have asked India to travel to their country for the Asia Cup 2023.

Imran Nazir, another former Pakistan player, meanwhile, has given a bizarre statement, saying India won't come to Pakistan as they are afraid of losing.

Speaking on Nazir Ali podcast, Imran said, "There is no security reason. Just look at how many teams have been to Pakistan. Forget A teams, even Australia visited. These are all just cover-ups. The truth is that India won't come to Pakistan [for the Asia Cup] because they are afraid of losing. Security is just an excuse. Come and play cricket. When you start playing politics, there is no way back."

Notably, Imran was part of the Pakistan squad which lost the inaugural ICC World T20 tournament in 2007 in a thrilling final. Nazir's career spanned from 1999-2012, during which the opening batsman played eight Tests, 79 ODIs and 25 T20Is for his country.

In the recent past, many teams have travelled to Pakistan, most notable among them is Australia, which took part in a three Test series in the Asian country. Apart from them, England players too travelled to Pakistan for a limited-overs series.

India and Pakistan, now just face off each other in the ICC tournaments only, after having severed cricketing ties in 2012/13 due to the unstable political situation between the two countries.

'They are afraid...': Ex-Pak batsman's BIZARRE claim over India not travelling to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan have been at loggerheads for quite some time now after India announced that it will not be travelling to Pakistan for Asia Cup in September later this year. Pakistan, in response, also has threated to pull out of ICC ODI World Cup, scheduled to be held in India shortly after the 2023 Asia Cup.

Former Pakistan speedster, Shoaib Akhtar, meanwhile, has said that he's hopeful of both the countries resolving the dispute and travel to each other's country for the respective tournaments.

"India and Pakistan will play the final in the Asia Cup and also in the World Cup. India will come to Pakistan (for Asia Cup) and Pakistan will also travel to India for the World Cup. I am very hopeful that things will improve between India and Pakistan, and trade will open. I urge people from both sides to spread positivity and close the gap instead of burning bridges," said Akhtar in a conversation with media outlet Sports Today.

'Pak will travel to India': Ex-Pak pacer Shoaib Akhtar on BCCI and PCB dispute over Asia Cup & WC touring

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has urged India to tour Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup amid reports of BCCI denying travelling over security reasons. Following the last ACC meeting where BCCI informed PCB about their decision not to come to Pakistan for the multi-team tournament, Najam Sethi is believed to have threatened its Indian counterpart of boycotting the 2023 World Cup if that happens.

Meanwhile, Afridi, who has been vocal about issues related to Kashmir in particular in the past, has said if India comes over to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup, it will not only improve the cricketing ties but will also work as a step towards bettering political relations between both countries. One of the biggest match-winners for Pakistan further said he will be happy if everything goes as per plan.

"It would have been really nice if India had come. It would have been a step towards Cricket and Pakistan for India. This is not the generation of wars and fights. We want relationships to get better," Shahid Afridi told the media on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Doha.

While almost every team barring India, has travelled to Pakistan over the past few years, that too for full-fledged series, Afridi feels there are no security concerns and that the Asia Cup should go ahead as scheduled.

"As far as the security concern in Pakistan is concerned, we had many international teams travelling here recently. We used to face security threats from India as well, but if permission is received from the government of both countries then the tour will happen. If the tour doesn't happen, we will give those people a chance. All they want is that there should be no cricket between them," Afridi further said.

India last toured Pakistan during the 2008 Asia Cup and in 2006 for the bilateral series. Although both last faced in a bilateral series in India in 2012/2013, since then have just squared off in ICC events only.

The final decision on the future of the 2023 Asia Cup will be decided in the ACC meeting scheduled for this month.

Following the final of HBL PSL 8 on Saturday, where Lahore Qalandars successfully defended its title against Multan Sultans, PCB Chief Najam Sethi revealed the digital viewership of their premier franchise tournament was higher than IPL 2022.

Addressing the media, Sethi claimed the crowd attendance during the matches was at an all-time high as ticket sales skyrocketed. Sethi added while PSL 8 digital viewership was 150 million, it was higher than its Indian counterpart IPL 2022, whose viewership was recorded at 130 million. Paying gratitude to fans for turning up in huge numbers throughout the tournament, Sethi said such numbers are by no means a small deal, while he appeared elated celebrating the success of PSL 8 success.

Meanwhile, there always remains a comparison between fans from both countries as to which is the better franchise-based T20 league. While IPL will be entering its 16th edition, starting March 31st, PSL completed its eighth season.

The defending champions Lahore Qalandars defeated the high-flying Multan Sultans in final by the barest of margins. Batting first, Lahore completed 200 runs, thanks to a 40-ball 65 from Abdullah Shafique and an out-of-the-world 15-ball 44* from the captain Shaheen Afridi, who smashed five sixes and two fours.

The chase was well-threaded by cameos from the top order, in which the man-in-form Rilee Rossouw top-scored with 52 from 32 balls. While the lower order also contributed with crucial runs, four wickets to seamer Afridi derailed their momentum going forward. In the end it all came down to the final over, where Zaman Khan successfully defended the target with just two runs remaining.

“My heart was pounding in the last over but my captain gave me a lot of confidence and he told me to try my best and don't fear failure. I knew batters are anticipating Yorkers, so I bowled a few slower ones as well. Credit goes to our management who give us free hand and back us to give our 100 per cent on the field,” said Zaman Khan.

Japan's Fuji Electric to expand India ops, invest $50mn, export made-in-India hardware

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since early 2013. Ever since the political relations between both countries hit an all-time low, the two heavyweights only square off during multi-nation or ICC events. The Asia Cup 2023 edition is just six months away but there is no host for the continental event ever since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the forthcoming edition. Since then, it is understood that the tournament will once again be held at a neutral venue. However, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has lashed out at BCCI's stance.

'Why is India worried about security?'

In a press conference, Najam Sethi said, "I have kept my options open because when all teams are coming to Pakistan and have no issues with security. Then why is India worried about security? In the same way, we can also have security concerns over sending our team to India for the World Cup and I will be bringing this to the table at the coming meetings."

"Obviously we don’t support this stance (by India) because we want to hold the Asia Cup and remember it is not just about the Asia Cup and World Cup it is also about the Champions Trophy in 2025 in Pakistan."

"I had sought advice from the government and the situation is that we have to go by what our patron-in-chief tells us to do. If he says go and play in World Cup even if India doesn’t come for Asia Cup, what can we do? If he says don’t go it is a similar situation for us," Sethi further added.

Currently, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition is being held in Pakistan. The tournament faced a big hurdle following the Karachi terror attack but has continued uninterrupted.

The last time Pakistan travelled to India for a bilateral series was in 2013 whereas their last visit overall was during the 2016 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, India have not visited their Asian neighbours since 2008. It remains to be seen who will host the Asia Cup as India remain adamant about not travelling to Pakistan. Pakistan, on the other hand, have threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India later this year, if their neighbours do not turn up for the continental tournament in September 2023.

'Teams are coming to Pak & have no security issues, then why is...': PCB chief on BCCI's Asia Cup stance

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is pondering over giving much-required rest to star players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Haris Rauf to manage workloads ahead of Asia Cup and World Cup later this year. As per the latest report in ESPNcricinfo, PCB might rest the trio for the upcoming Afghanistan T20Is and the New Zealand T20Is that follow.

Following the latest selection committee meeting in which workload management of several top players was one of the topics for discussion, the possibility of bringing in new players and resting the big names grew big time.

Considering the amount of cricket that these three players have played across all formats (including international and domestic) since the start of January 2021 - Rizwan (150), Babar (127) and Haris (125), giving them rest ahead of the second half of the year looks like a viable option.

Meanwhile, with this step comes another problem – the captaincy one, as Babar is an all-format skipper, and not having him for nearly eight T20 matches (three against Afghanistan and five against New Zealand), meaning the appointment of a new skipper. While talks in the PCB have suggested that Shadab Khan is looked up to as a potential option, the board is also keen on getting ace seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi to lead the Pakistan's T20I side in Babar’s absence. As reported by the same publication, PCB is believed to have approached him for the role early this year.

Returning from the knee injury that saw him missing major part of last year’s cricket including the home series against England and New Zealand, the 22-year-old Afridi is not bad for an option given his credentials in the PSL lately.

With the limited experience of leading his team Lahore Qalandars in around 22 matches so far, Afridi had led to their maiden PSL title in 2022 and under his tutelage this time also, they have reached the playoffs.

ALSO READ: Neil Wagner ruled out of ongoing Test as Sri Lanka in pole position to upset New Zealand in Christchurch Considering the amount of cricket that these three players have played across all formats (including international and domestic) since the start of January 2021 - Rizwan (150), Babar (127) and Haris (125), giving them rest ahead of the second half of the year looks like a viable option. The 2023 Asia Cup has been much talked about. While Pakistan will host the 50-over continental tournament, the venue isn't finalised as India have made it clear that they won't travel to their neighbouring country due to the strained political relations between both sides. A final decision on the venue is likely to be out by March but Pakistan will remain the host for sure.

Ever since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah revealed, in late 2022, that Team India won't get government clearance to go to Pakistan for the tournament, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have not taken things lightly. The then PCB chief Ramiz Raja had revealed that Pakistan will boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, if the Men in Blue pull out of Asia Cup. Now, Kamran Akmal -- the veteran keeper-batter -- has joined the bandwagon and backed Ramiz's claims.

Speaking on the Nadir Ali podcast, Kamran said that Pakistan also have respect and they shouldn't travel to their neighbouring country if India doesn't turn up for the Asia Cup.

"If India do not agree to come for the Asia Cup, we should not go to India to play the 2023 World Cup there. Hamaari bhi respect hai (We are also well respected). We have been world champions too, have topped rankings in all formats and have won the Champions Trophy too. This is between two governments; until they are on the same page, the teams won't go with each other. We have to see how long it goes," Kamran said.

India and Pakistan's senior men's team had last met during the 2022 T20 World Cup, in Australia, where Rohit Sharma & Co. beat Babar Azam-led Men in Green by five wickets.

Safaraz Ahmed saw a huge downfall in his international career post the 2019 ODI World Cup, in England and Wales. After Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals, they were whitewashed by a second-stringed Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series at home later in the year; resulting in his sacking as the captain. Soon, he was left out of the squad across formats. He made a solid return to the Test line-up in late 2022 during New Zealand's two-match series versus hosts Pakistan. He ended with 86, 53, 78, 118 to return as the Player-of-the-Series.

At present, Sarfaraz is involved in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023, where he is leading the Quetta Gladiators. Recently, the wicketkeeper-batter made an appearance on a TV show in Pakistan. During the show, the host asked him to choose who is the better captain between Babar Azam, Azhar Ali and him. To this, the right-hander shared an epic response. Here's what he said:

"Sarfaraz Ahmed," while later adding, "Kisi ko naaraz karne se behtar hai ki apna he naam le lo (It’s better to take your own name rather than making anybody else angry)." Here's the video:

Because he can’t speak. Is there any other cricketer who can speak well? Why do only I, Shahid Afridi, and Wasim Akram get all the advertisements? The reason is that we take it as a job." This isn't the first time that Babar has faced criticism for his communication skills. Even in 2020, he addressed the issue during a press conference by saying that he is working on improving his communication skills. Back then, he stated, "I’m a cricketer; my job is to play cricket. I am not a 'gora' who knows English thoroughly. Yes, I am working on it, but you learn these things over a period of time; you can’t just suddenly learn it." At present, Babar is leading the Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2023. While he is a superstar in modern-day cricket, he will be eager to work on his personality to shun his critics across the globe.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) versus Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) row has been much-talked about with regard to the Asia Cup 2023 edition. This year's continental tournament, to be held in the 50-over format, was scheduled to be played in Pakistan but BCCI have refused to send Team India to their neighbouring country. In the recently-held Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Bahrain, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed that they will not get government clearance to send the national side to Pakistan -- due to Indo-Pak's strained political relations -- and urged other boards to understand their situation.

While BCCI have made its stance clear, PCB have also threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup -- to be held in India -- later this year. In all likelihood, the BCCI-PCB row won't end anytime soon and it has become a huge talking point. The continental tournament is likely to be held in a different country, but PCB will remain the hosts, and a final call on the venue will be taken next month. Before that, former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi reacted to the whole controversy and feels even ICC won't be able to do anything if BCCI remain firm on not sending India to Pakistan.

Speaking on Samaa TV, Afridi said, "If anyone is unable to stand on his own feet and then the decision to make such strong calls is not easy. They have to look at plenty of things. India agar aankhe dikha raha hain (If India is threatening), or taking such strong stance, then they have made themselves that strong, hence they are being able to talk like this, otherwise they wouldn’t have the courage. At the end it’s making yourself strong and then take decisions."

Afridi further opined, "I have no idea, will India visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup? Will we boycott the ODI World Cup in India? But we need to take a stand at some point or the other. In this case ICC’s role becomes crucial, they should come forward, but let me say it even ICC won’t be able to do anything in front of BCCI."

It remains to be seen where the Asia Cup will be held this year. In 2022, Sri Lanka remained the host while the tournament was shifted to the UAE where the Islanders won the championship, beating Pakistan by 22 runs in the final.

'ICC won’t be able to do anything': Afridi reacts to BCCI's refusal to send India to Pakistan for Asia Cup

Pakistan great Javed Miandad blasted India for refusing to travel to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup. Recently, he asked for the International Cricket Council's (ICC) intervention to look into the BCCI vs PCB spat as the Indian cricket board recently said, in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, that they won't get government clearance to travel to Pakistan and have made all other boards understand its stance.

Miandad, however, didn't mince his words and lashed out at his neighbouring country by saying 'India can go to hell' if they do not want to come to Pakistan for the continental tournament later this year. While his comments upset many Indians, and also a few from his own country, the former batter has now clarified his remark on Asia Cup row.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Miandad said, "Do you know what hell means? If you don’t want to play just don’t. We don’t have a problem. Ask the Indian cricketers. They’ll also say that there should be cricket between these two teams in their respective countries. It’ll benefit both nations."

Miandad also reflected on the previous tours and the love and respect between players from both countries. He recalled, "Earlier we used to go there and then they used to come here. When India came to play a series in Pakistan, there were so many people from India who also came to watch. There were no hotels available and the Lahore residents invited them to their houses. It had a very good impact on the relationships between the two countries.”

A final call on Asia Cup venue is expected to be taken in March 2023. PCB have remained firm on their stance to boycott 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, if Asia Cup is moved out of their country.

If you don’t want to play just don’t: Pakistan great Javed Miandad clarifies his 'India can go to hell' remark

There is always plenty happening in Pakistan cricket. In late 2022, Ramiz Raja was sacked as Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman as Najam Sethi once again took over the post. Shahid Afridi acted as the interim chief selector before Haroon Rashid succeeded him. With Saqlain Mushtaq's tenure getting over as the head coach, there have been lots of talk regarding who will succeed the former spinner. While there were speculations of Justin Langer getting the role, the reports fizzled out sooner than later as Mickey Arthur's name started doing the rounds.

Arthur is currently serving a long-term deal with Derbyshire and isn't willing to end his County stint. Nonetheless, reportedly he was offered the role of Pakistan's head coach -- which he had served from 2016-2019 -- and is likely to become Pakistan's first online coach as PCB are keen to rehire him. Amid all this, a lot has been said and written about PCB looking set to reappoint Arthur in the Pakistan cricket setup. Sikander Bakht, Pakistan's former batter who represented the national side in 26 Tests, has joined the bandwagon and stated that Arthur might join as team director. In addition, he made a big claim over foreign coach's presence in Pakistan team setup.

'Do you think any of these can tell anything to Babar, Shadab, Shaheen?'

“I was with the Pakistan team as assistant coach from 2000-2003. The guy who was above me hadn't played a single ODI, but everyone listened to him. He was a South African, I don't remember his name. Once, I tried to tell something to one of the players but he interrupted me, saying ‘I’ve played 40 Tests, you've played 26. Let me handle it'. He actually said that. Do you think any of these can tell anything to Babar, Shadab, Shaheen? If someone comes up and tells them anything, they will…” Bakht said before he was interrupted by the anchors on Geo Super.

When one of the anchor interrupted and asked if there's a need for a person who ensures everyone listens to them, Bakht replied saying, "Foreign coach ke saath ye log (players) sahi rehte hain. Vo angrez rehta hai toh ye log uss se darte hain (These players are kept in check with foreign coaches. Because he's a foreigner, they are scared of him). You see, we had Javed Miandad, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Mohammad Yousuf as coaches. But no one could handle the players,” concluded the former Pakistan cricketer.

It is a shame that the best ones do not want to come and we insist on having someone who is looking at Pakistan as a second option." In addition, blasted Pakistan's cricket system, and several ex-cricketers, for using their YouTube channels for ratings. "I blame our own system, which is vulnerable enough with so many weak lines for anyone to exploit it. We are to be blamed ourselves that we have disrespected and discredited our own people to make a bad image. The present and former lot do not respect each other, with media and former players using their own YouTube channels for ratings, grossly hitting the credibility and value of our cricket which, as as result, gives an impression that we are not capable," the former right-handed batter further asserted.

'Players are in check...': Ex-cricketer on likely appointment of Mickey Arthur as Pakistan's online coach

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is taking a lot of big decisions in order to revive Pakistan cricket. Recently, reports came in that the PCB is set to rehire Mickey Arthur, the national side's former coach, as their first online coach. This led to a widespread criticism and former Pakistan captain-cum-coach Misbah-ul-Haq has also joined in and didn't mince his words while reacting to the likely appointment of Arthur into the Pakistani setup.

It is believed that PCB were keen to rehire Arthur as their full-time head coach but the South African is currently on a long-term deal with Derbyshire and isn't willing to end his County stint. As per the arrangement with PCB, Arthur will not be physically present with the Pakistan team but will have his trusted people who will manage the operations on his behalf. He is expected to not travel with Babar Azam & Co. for the 2023 Asia Cup but will be part of their ODI World Cup campaign, in India, followed by their Test tour of Australia later this year.

'It is a slap....': Misbah reacts to Mickey Arthur's likely appointment as Pakistan's first online coach

As Saqlain Mushtaq’s contract as Pakistan's current head coach is set to expire soon, the PCB is believed to have roped in Mickey Arthur for the same position, as per multiple reports in Pakistan. Mickey, who had coached the Pakistan Cricket Team in the past, wasn’t eager to get back on the board earlier but after multiple requests from Najam Sethi-led PCB, he is now reported to have agreed to take up the vacant spot. However, there is a catch here. As per BolNews Pakistan, Mickey has put forward some conditions - out of the which the most unique one is that he will be an online coach.

Now what does an online coach means? As per reports, it said that Mickey will not be present with the team for every tour and instead will only be there with the squad for the tours or tournaments he feels are important or when it is necessary. In short, it means Arthur will be coaching the team via online mostly. However, there is nothing concrete available that suggests will he take it up the full-time job or will he be on a contract.

Meanwhile, owing to his long-term commitment with Derbyshire Cricket Club, Mickey was earlier asked to be a consultant to the PCB by the Najam Sethi’s administration; with that proposal going down the drain as it couldn’t materialise for various reason for both parties. Now, the latest reports that have emerged have suggested something else. Following multiple requests from PCB, Mickey Arthur is set to return as Pakistan's coach - Reports

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has come in support of their captain Babar Azam after he was falsely accused of 'sexting' with the girlfriend of another Pakistani cricketer.

"As our media partner, you might have considered ignoring such unsubstantiated personal allegations which Babar Azam has not deemed worthy of a response," tweeted PCB while quote tweeting Foxsports which published an article on the controversy.

The false allegations were first posted by a parody Twitter account named Dr Nimo Yadav which, incidentally had a Twitter blue verified account.

“Babar Azam sexting with GF of another Pakistan cricketer and promising her that her bf won’t be out of the team if she keeps sexting with him is just," read the now-deleted tweet.

Soon, media outlets picked the tweet thread without doing any due diligence and the allegations went viral.

After the controversy snowballed, the parody account deleted its Babar Azam related tweets and requested Fox Sports to delete the article as well.

"Delete this tweet, “bf in team for sexting” story is false, I did this in a satirical way."

This is not the first time that the Pakistani skipper has found himself in such a controversy. in 2020, a woman alleged that Azm had promised to marry him and got her pregnant.

PCB comes in defence of Babar Azam after bizarre sexting allegations

Pakistan lost to New Zealand by 79 runs in the second and penultimate ODI, in Karachi, as the Black Caps levelled the three-match series with the finale on Friday (January 13). After dismissing NZ for 261, after they were comfortably placed at 183 for 1, Babar Azam & Co. were bundled out for a paltry 182 in 43 overs to lose by a handsome margin.

From Pakistan's perspective, only captain Babar got going on a pitch conducive for spinners. He, however, scored 79 off 114 balls with a strike rate of 69.30. The right-hander came out to bat in the third over and was dismissed in the 43rd over and many slammed him for his slow knock and termed him selfish. While some feel he put pressure on others, many also defended him as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals from the other end. Amid all this, former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has slammed Babar's critics.

"If Babar Azam is selfish, then we need two to three additional such players in the team. Babar Azam is a good player and any negative aspect of his game can be rectified," Ajmal was quoted as saying by India Today.

Ajmal also opened up on split captaincy, which is being talked about a lot in Pakistan cricket after their dismal run in home Tests in 2022. In this regard, he suggested, "There is no need for separate captains in all three formats. If they still want to do it, then they should only opt for separate captains in white and red-ball cricket."

If he is selfish, then Pakistan needs two to three such players: Saeed Ajmal slams Babar Azam's critics

Pakistan cricket team hasn't had the best of times recently. While they did well to reach the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022 final, they lost the finale on both occasions. However, it is their dismal home record in Tests which led to the team's severe criticism. In 2022, Pakistan failed to win a single Test on home soil. They lost 1-0 to Australia, were whitewashed for the first time at home in the format following the England drubbing and only managed a 0-0 stalemate versus New Zealand recently.

Following their poor run in whites, skipper Babar Azam was criticised severely with many calling for his sacking at least in the red-ball format. Now, former Pakistan captain and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has backed Babar and feels he 'is being forced to become weak'. He also opined on split captaincy and gave his verdict.

Speaking ahead of the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand, Misbah said to Geo News, "It is visible, Babar is being forced to become weak, which is not good. The kind of press conferences and questions being asked from Babar, everyone is watching."

Misbah asserted that if a shift of leadership has to come, it should be a collective decision."If there is a decision to be made, everyone should sit together and make a decision. The players, the selection committee, and the board should sit down and make a decision comfortably. They should review the situation and If they think changes should be made, then they should do it. If you put pressure on someone for any other reason, the whole team will be disturbed. It should not happen," Misbah pointed out.

On split captaincy, Misbah totally ruled out the possibility and mentioned, "Appointing separate captains shakes up everything as it gives birth to competition. It creates a political environment,” he concluded.

Currently, Babar & Co. are involved in a three-match ODI series versus the Kane Williamson-led Black Caps. They lead the series 1-0 and will aim for an unassailable lead in the second and penultimate encounter, underway in Karachi on Wednesday evening (January 11).
