“The PCB has to date not received any official communication or clarification from the ACC on the statement of the ACC President. Pakistan legend Javed Miandad has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to have an 'honest' conversation with captain Babar Azam amid a drop in his performance. Miandad wants PCB to ask Babar if captaincy is taking a toll on his game and whether the star batter feels he cannot cope with the burden of leading the side.

Babar has been one of Pakistan's most prolific run-getters across formats over the last few years. However, he has struggled with his form of late and has failed to produce big knocks consistently. “Babar is a world-class batsman. But the board should ask him if the captaincy is taking a toll on him. There needs to be an honest conversation between him and the board. At the post-match presentation, Babar said, "Congratulations to Sri Lanka for playing outstanding cricket. We dominated them for the first eight overs, but the partnership that Rajapaska got was amazing. This was a true wicket and it is always nice playing in Dubai. We didn't bat according to our potential. We started well, but we gave away 15-20 extra runs and couldn't finish well. A lot of positives for us to take. In a final, the margin for mistakes is lesser. Our fielding wasn't up to the mark and the batting couldn't finish it off well. But Rizwan, Naseem and Nawaz were positives. Ups and downs will be there, but it would be nicer if we made lesser mistakes."

The Pakistan Cricket Board has reacted sharply and decided to suspend Nadeem as a coach. The board, however, has refused to carry out an investigation into the matter with a PCB official suggesting that the police should rather conduct an enquiry into the case.

In response, Babar, during a press conference, stated, "Definitely, as a player it's a dream to become the No. 1 in all formats and for that, you have to focus and put in hard work. It's not like if you are the top player in 1 or 2 formats, you go easy. If you are to become No.1 in all three, you have to keep yourself fit and on track. There is back-to-back cricket and the gap is less. For that, you need to be extra fit. It's something I am preparing for. "One-hundred per cent (Babar is capable of achieving that)," Karthik had said on The ICC Review. "He is a high-quality player who is at the peak of his batting prowess and he has got some Test matches coming up. It's not like if you are the top player in 1 or 2 formats, you go easy. If you are to become No.1 in all three, you have to keep yourself fit and on track. There is back-to-back cricket and the gap is less. For that, you need to be extra fit. It's something I am preparing for. It's going well in white-ball and hopefully, I will be able to do well in Tests too." The prolific right-hander has so far amassed 2,851, 4,261 and 2,686 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, respectively. He will soon lead the Men in Green in three ODIs versus West Indies at home.
