India and Pakistan locked horns in the Super 12 clash at the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, at the MCG, Melbourne, on Sunday (October 23). In front of a jam-packed stadium, the Asian giants produced a nerve-wreaking match which went down to the wire before Virat Kohli's 82 not out took India home on the final ball of the contest.

Opting to bowl first, Rohit Sharma's Team India restricted Pakistan to 159-8. After riding on Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya's three-fers, Indian openers commenced the run-chase but departed soon as Men in Blue were tottering at 31 for 4. Kohli and Hardik got together and stitched a memorable 113-run fifth-wicket stand before the last over saw India needing 16 for victory.

After much drama, R Ashwin hit the winning runs on the final ball as India pulled off a heist versus the Men in Green. The last over saw a waist-high delivery being smacked for a six by Kohli, which was followed by the umpires declaring it a no-ball and a free-hit followed suit. On the free-hit delivery, Md Nawaz clean bowled Kohli but the ball went towards the deep third-man region as the Indians ran three and brought down the equation, amid a lot of discussion between Pakistani players and the on-field umpires.

With two needed off the last two deliveries, India lost Dinesh Karthik. Ashwin came in and Nawaz bowled a wide before his final ball was hit for a four by the off-spinner as India emerged on top. Now, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has reacted to the high-voltage clash.

T20 WC: 'This game can be cruel and unfair' - Ramiz Raja reacts after India pull off a heist vs Pakistan

Ever since the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah -- who is the Asian Cricket Council (ACC)'s chief -- confirmed that the Asia Cup 2023 edition won't be held in Pakistan, as planned originally, as India won't travel to their neighbouring country, it has become PCB vs BCCI.

Following Shah's claims, many former Indian and Pakistani cricketers have joined the bandwagon and reacted in this regard. In reply to Shah's remarks, PCB indicated that if India do not turn up for the Asia Cup in Pakistan, it might impact their participation in the forthcoming ODI World Cup, to be played in India in late 2023.

Recently, things went out of hand during a talk show where former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was involved in a heated debate with a Pakistani anchor. The anchor slammed the BCCI's take on not travelling to Pakistan. In addition, he stated that if a World Cup is held in Pakistan, the Indian team will most likely travel given the importance of the tournament. To this, Harbhajan said "We don't need PCB, Indian cricket can survive without Pakistan."

"Ramiz Raza had given a statement last year that Pakistan Cricket does not have the kind of money and that they need to look towards the BCCI. Either that or if the BCCI offers PCB money, Pakistan cricket is surviving. If you feel, you don't want to come to India, please don't. Who is asking you? If you don't want to play the ICC event, it's your call. If our players are not safe there, we won't send. Don't play if that's what you want," Harbhajan said on Aaj Tak's special show with Pakistan's ARY News.

"Of course, we have (security concerns). You tell me that you'll take the guarantee? Indian cricket can still survive without Pakistan, and if you guys can survive without Indian cricket, do it," he added, backing Shah's recent comments.

Indian cricket can survive without Pakistan: Harbhajan Singh, Pakistani anchor involved in heated debate

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah recently announced the Indian cricket team will not be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and the tournament will be shifted to a neutral venue. Ever since his statement, Shah, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has been criticised by several former Pakistan cricketers.

Shah's comments came after BCCI's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday where it was decided that team India won't travel to Pakistan. India and Pakistan have not played bilateral cricket against each other since 2013 due to political tensions between the two nations and have met only in major ICC competitions.

Reacting to Shah's comments, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made its displeasure known and also threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup which is scheduled to be played in India. Several former Pakistan cricketers have also urged the PCB to boycott the ODI World Cup next year as a mark of protest if India refuse to travel to Pakistan.

In the wake of the controversy, legendary Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram has also hit back at Shah for his comments and said India cannot dictate the way Pakistan wants to play their cricket. Akram said Shah should have held a meeting with the PCB and the board of the Asian Cricket Council before making a statement on the venue of the Asia Cup 2023.

"It was a brilliant statement from our cricket board. India can't dictate how Pakistan plays their cricket. Pakistan have started hosting teams after 10-15 years now. I'm an ex-cricketer, sportsperson, I don't know what's happening on the political front. But communication is important. If Jay Shah had to say something, he should have called the PCB chairman, there should have been a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council. He should have put forth his idea and there should have been a discussion,” Akram said on A-Sports.

“You can't just stand up and say we are not travelling when the Asian Cricket Council awarded the hosting rights to Pakistan. That's not fair,” he added.

Shah's comments came days ahead of the blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. The arch-rivals are set to lock horns in their respective openers at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCC) on October 23 in what promises to be a nail-biter.

This is not the first time Asia Cup will be shifted to a neutral venue from its original venue. In 2018, India were the hosts but the tournament was moved to the UAE due to political reasons Earlier this year, the tournament was shifted from Sri Lanka to UAE due to the economic crisis in the island nation.

India can't dictate how Pakistan plays cricket: Wasim Akram on BCCI secretary Jay Shah's Asia Cup statement

Jay Shah's revelation on the Asia Cup 2023 edition has sparked a huge controversy. After BCCI'S Annual General Meeting (AGM), on Tuesday (October 18) in Mumbai, Shah commenced his second innings as the board's secretary whereas Roger Binny succeeded Sourav Ganguly to become the new chief.

After the AGM, Shah -- who is also Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) -- revealed that the next year's Asia Cup won't be held in Pakistan as India can't travel to the neighbouring country due to the strained political relations between both nations. Hence, he confirmed that a neutral venue will once again host the Asia Cup, as was the case during this year's edition (held in the UAE with eventful winners Sri Lanka as hosts).

Since then, Pakistan's former cricketers and even their board PCB have strongly reacted to the ACC chief's claims. Now, veteran keeper-batter Kamran Akmal also joined the bandwagon and has even suggested Team Pakistan to boycott India at all levels, including the upcoming T20 World Cup clash on October 23 (Sunday) at the MCG, Melbourne.

“I believe Jay Shah’s statement was unexpected, and since he attended the Pakistan-India game during this year’s Asia Cup, he should reserve politics for his opposition and avoid dragging it into sports,” Kamran told ARY news.

He added, "Asia Cup should only be hosted in Pakistan and if that does not happen then Pakistan should not play against India at any level, be it ICC events’ matches, Asia Cup matches, or even their match on October 23."

PCB responds to ACC President's statement:

“The PCB has noted with surprise and disappointment of yesterday’s comments made by the ACC President Mr Jay Shah with regards to shifting of next year’s Asia Cup to a neutral venue. The comments were made without any discussion or consultation with the Board of the Asian Cricket Council or the Pakistan Cricket Board (event host) and without any thoughts towards their long-term consequences and implications."

"After having presided over the ACC meeting during which Pakistan was awarded the ACC Asia Cup with an overwhelming support and response from the ACC Board Members, Mr Shah’s statement of shifting of the ACC Asia Cup has clearly been made unilaterally. This is contrary to the philosophy and spirit for which the Asian Cricket Council was formed in September 1983 – a united Asian cricket body to safeguard the interests of the its Members and organise, develop, and promote the game of cricket in Asia."

The statement added, "The overall impact of such statements have the potential to split the Asian and international cricketing communities, and can impact Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle.

“The PCB has to date not received any official communication or clarification from the ACC on the statement of the ACC President. As such, the PCB has now requested the Asian Cricket Council to convene an emergency meeting of its Board as soon as practically possible to discuss this important and sensitive matter.”

As of now, a venue for Asia Cup 2023 edition is expected to be finalised in the near future whereas India are set to host next year's ODJ World Cup. However, Pakistan's participation is doubtful following PCB's reaction.

Amid BCCI vs PCB for Asia Cup, Kamran Akmal calls for Pakistan to boycott T20 World Cup clash vs India

On Tuesday, (October 18), a major change in leadership took place at the BCCI with Roger Binny taking over as the board's 36th President, after Sourav Ganguly's exit. The former Indian captain had attained the top post in late 2019.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, however, resumed his second innings and made a massive claim while interacting with the reporters after the board's 91st Annual General Meeting (AGM). Shah, who is also Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) chief, revealed that the 2023 Asia Cup won't be held in Pakistan as India won't travel to their neighbouring country.

"The Asia Cup 2023 will be held at a neutral venue. I am saying this as ACC President. We [India] can't go there [to Pakistan], they can't come here. In the past also, Asia Cup has been played at a neutral venue," Shah told the media.

Following this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reportedly threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India after the 50-over Asia Cup. Now, former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi joined the bandwagon and slammed Shah for his untimely comments.

'Reflects lack of...' - Shahid Afridi lashes out at Jay Shah after his revelation on Asia Cup 2023

Former Pakistan captain and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has slammed Pakistan cricket team for their abysmal fitness standards, right before their T20 World Cup campaign in Australia. Misbah, who vacated the head coach position in 2021, has claimed that there haven't been any fitness tests and there is not even any benchmark to follow. Further, he said that the fitness becomes a joke during the domestic season.

"Clear cut, fitness issues are visible, Waqar left four times [as coach], I left once. Players like myself, Shoaib Malik, and Younis Khan were quite into fitness, and we used to push ourselves. Those who push others out of their limitations are not considered good trainers nor good coaches. Their tummies are visible; their lower are heavy and they can't move. The reason behind this is there has not been a single fitness test, there is no benchmark," Misbah was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

"Fitness test level during domestic season becomes a joke. We used to have arguments that we used to say that the standard used for the international level must be used for the domestic level as well. The responsible people at the domestic level always opposed us related to fitness, "added the former Men in Green captain, who was easily one of the fittest cricketers during his active days at the international level.

In the current Pakistan line-up, the likes of Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Md Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi are considered fit but the likes of Asif Ali, Shan Masood, etc. are the fittest of the lot. Currently, the national side is gearing up for their T20 WC opener, where they face India at the MCG, Melbourne on October 23 (Sunday). They are placed in Pool B with India, Bangladesh and South Africa whereas two more teams will join from the qualifiers.

'Their tummies are visible, lower are heavy': Misbah-ul-Haq unimpressed with Pakistan's fitness standards

Jay Shah, after the BCCI AGM on Tuesday (October 18) in Mumbai, made an explosive claim that India won't be touring to Pakistan for next year's Asia Cup 2023 edition and, hence, the continental tournament will be held at a neutral venue. Since then, the Pakistan cricket fraternity have reacted to Shah's comments, who is also the Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) chief apart from being the BCCI Secretary.

After it was reported that PCB have threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, if BCCI doesn't send the Indian team to Pakistan for the continental tournament, their board have finally reacted with a strong statement.

“The PCB has noted with surprise and disappointment of yesterday’s comments made by the ACC President Mr Jay Shah with regards to shifting of next year’s Asia Cup to a neutral venue. The comments were made without any discussion or consultation with the Board of the Asian Cricket Council or the Pakistan Cricket Board (event host) and without any thoughts towards their long-term consequences and implications.

“After having presided over the ACC meeting during which Pakistan was awarded the ACC Asia Cup with an overwhelming support and response from the ACC Board Members, Mr Shah’s statement of shifting of the ACC Asia Cup has clearly been made unilaterally. This is contrary to the philosophy and spirit for which the Asian Cricket Council was formed in September 1983 – a united Asian cricket body to safeguard the interests of the its Members and organise, develop, and promote the game of cricket in Asia," PCB said in a statement.

“The overall impact of such statements have the potential to split the Asian and international cricketing communities, and can impact Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle.

“The PCB has to date not received any official communication or clarification from the ACC on the statement of the ACC President. As such, the PCB has now requested the Asian Cricket Council to convene an emergency meeting of its Board as soon as practically possible to discuss this important and sensitive matter," the statement further added.

India and Pakistan only lock horns in multi-nation or ICC tournaments, due to strained political relations between both countries, and do not play bilateral series anymore. 'It can impact Pakistan’s visit...': PCB issues strong statement after Jay Shah's comments on Asia Cup

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Jay Shah -- who is also BCCI Secretary -- confirmed on Tuesday (October 18) that the 2023 Asia Cup won't happen in Pakistan as India won't be travelling to the neighbouring country, given the strained political relations between both nations. While the ACC is yet to discuss the matter in detail and decide on the venue, it has been confirmed that the next edition of the continental tournament will once again be held at a neutral place; as was the case for this year's edition.

Following Jay Shah's revelation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly threatened to pull out of the 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India, if India do not travel to Pakistan for the 50-over Asia Cup next year. "The PCB is now prepared to take hard decisions and play hardball because it is also aware that the ICC and ACC events will have to face commercial liabilities and losses if Pakistan does not play India in these multi-team events," a senior PCB source told PTI.

"The PCB is wondering in what capacity has Jay Shah given the statement that the ACC will look to relocate the Asia Cup to UAE out of Pakistan because the hosting rights were awarded by the executive board of the ACC not the President," the PCB source further asserted.

After the comments from Shah, which came after BCCI's 91st Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on Tuesday, the PCB are considering to pull out of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) membership. Further, PCB chief and former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja is also planning to call for an immediate meeting of the Asian cricket's governing body in Australia.

"One option under consideration will be to pull out of the ACC as the PCB believes the ACC was formed to promote and develop cricket in the region and forge unity among the member nations. 'What is BCCI's problem?' Saeed Anwar slams Indian cricket board for Asia Cup 2023 decision

Pakistan and India are set to lock horns in the forthcoming Men's T20 World Cup 2022 edition, in Australia. While the qualifiers begin on October 16, the main draw of the competition will kick off on October 22 with India and Pakistan meeting each other at the iconic MCG, Melbourne on October 23.

In the last one year, the two senior men's sides have met thrice, with Babar Azam & Co. having a 2-1 lead. In the one game that Men in Green lost to Rohit Sharma-led India, they were close to winning that encounter as well before Hardik Pandya's last-over heroics sealed the deal for Team India during the group stage encounter at the 2022 Asia Cup.

Before India and Pakistan meet again, on October 23 at the MCG, PCB chief Ramiz Raja made heads turn with his recent remarks. The former Pakistan captain is of the opinion that India once used to take the field with the notion that their arch-rivals will never be able to beat them.

"It is a mental match more than skill and talent. So, if you are temperamentally strong, mentally focused and not willing to give up, then any small team can defeat a bigger opposition and Pakistan have been underdogs whenever they have competed against India, but of late, they have started respecting us because they had a gut feeling that Pakistan would never be able to beat us," Raja had said while speaking on Dawn News.

In the 2021 T20 WC, Pakistan had hammered India by ten wickets to earn their maiden win over the neighbouring country in World Cup history.

But at the end of the day, whatever you may say as a cricketer and as someone who is playing the sport, you do understand that wins and losses are part of the game, especially in this format, the margins are going to be so close."

To respect an opposition doesn't come with victories & defeats: R Ashwin reacts to Ramiz Raja's remarks

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday announced the match schedule of the New Zealand men`s cricket team`s dual tours of Pakistan. "New Zealand will play two Tests as part of their ICC World Test Championship title defence and three ICC Men`s Cricket World Cup Super League fixtures from December 27 to January 15, before returning for five T20Is and five ODIs from April 13 to May 7. On the first leg of the Pakistan tour, Kane Williamson`s side will play Tests in Karachi (December 27-31) and Multan (January 4-8). They will return to Karachi for the three ICC Super League matches on January 11, 13 and 15," PCB said in an official statement.

The Karachi Test will be New Zealand`s first in the metropolitan city since October 1990 when Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis shared 15 wickets between them and Shoaib Mohammad scored 203 not out, and the first in Pakistan since the May 2002 Test in Lahore in which Inzamam-ul-Haq scored a memorable 329 and Shoaib Akhtar recorded first innings figures of 8.2-4-11-6.It continues to be a memorable year for Multan as well. After hosting three ODIs against the West Indies in May, they will stage the second Test between Pakistan and England (December (9-13), before holding the second Test between Pakistan and New Zealand. Multan has also been announced as one of the four venues of the HBL Pakistan Super League, which will be held from February 9 to March 19. New Zealand will begin the second leg of the Pakistan tour in Karachi with four T20Is (April 13, 15, 16 and 19), followed by the fifth T20I and two ODIs in Lahore (April 23, 26 and 28) and last three ODIs will be played in Rawalpindi (May 1, 4 and 7).

Zakir Khan, PCB Director - International Cricket: "We had promised our passionate fans that we will deliver high-quality home international cricket in 2022. Today`s announcement of New Zealand`s double visit to Pakistan is part of that commitment."New Zealand is one of the high-performing sides and the more we will play against the top teams in our backyard, the better we will get as a unit, which is crucial to our objective of featuring inside the top three across all formats. The New Zealand matches will also provide opportunities to our youngsters to continue to watch and follow their favourite players in action, something they have missed when we were forced to play our international cricket offshore," Khan said."Three Tests against England followed by two Tests versus New Zealand over six weeks will give us a chance to strengthen our claims for a place in the ICC World Test Championship final. The eight ODIs will help us to prepare for September`s Asia Cup and October`s 50-over ICC Men`s Cricket World Cup 2023. As such, the series against New Zealand will not only be from the top drawer but will also have context, making it something to watch out for," he added.

David White, New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive: "The BLACKCAPS are very much looking forward to the dual tours. New Zealand and Pakistan share a terrific history in international cricket and there is genuine respect between the two teams as well as the two boards. I know our players can`t wait to arrive and savour the experience of playing in Karachi, Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi -places that carry a great cricketing heritage." The recent tours from Australia and England have left us in no doubt regarding the quality of the Pakistan side across all formats, and the extent of the challenge that awaits us," he added. The first leg of the tour for two Tests and three ODIs is part of the Future Tours Programme, while the 10 white-ball matches in April/May are to make up for the abandoned September 2021 tour.

New Zealand are presently eighth in the ICC World Test Championship, while Pakistan sitting in the fifth spot. In the ICC Super League, a qualifying tournament for the ICC Men`s Cricket World Cup 2023, Pakistan and New Zealand are fourth and sixth, respectively. New Zealand will be the third high-profile cricket side to tour Pakistan in 2022. In March/April, Australia made their first tour of Pakistan in 24 years when they played three Tests, three ODIs and a T20I. Last month, England visited Pakistan for the first time in 17 years and played seven T20Is. They will return in late November for December`s Tests in Rawalpindi, Multan and Karachi.

ALSO READ | 'When Kohli scored 100, India forgot their Asia Cup campaign...': Ramiz Raja on Babar Azam's critics David White, New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive: "The BLACKCAPS are very much looking forward to the dual tours.

PCB confirms New Zealand tour of Pakistan, Babar Azam & Co. to host 8 ODIs, 5 T20Is and 2 Tests

Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja has lashed out at Babar Azam's critics. Pakistan lost the Asia Cup final, losing to eventual winners Sri Lanka by 23 runs, whereas they conceded the seven-match T20I series, at home, to England 4-3. Meanwhile, Babar Azam -- who held the No. 1 spot in ICC T20I Rankings for long -- was woefully out of form in the Asia Cup, where he amassed only 68 runs in six outings, but returned to form with 285 runs in the England series (second-most overall). However, he is often slammed for his strike rate while batting at the top.

Ramiz, hence, made a bold Virat Kohli statement while slamming Babar's critics. "Previously we used to falter at the very first hurdle. Yes we reached the final and yes we did not play well. But it's okay to have a bad day. But there were others teams as well in the Asia Cup. I mean then India should then have been severely criticised for not reaching the final. But that is not what their fans and media do. I'll tell you...when Virat Kohli scored a century against Afghanistan, they forgot their entire Asia Cup. Will we ever do that? What we say is that Babar Azam scored a ton, but his strike rate was 135 while David Warner's was 147.3. So this is useless,” the former captain said while speaking to Samaa TV during an interview.

'When Kohli scored 100, India forgot their Asia Cup campaign...': Ramiz Raja on Babar Azam's critics

Pakistan legend Javed Miandad has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to have an 'honest' conversation with captain Babar Azam amid a drop in his performance. Miandad wants PCB to ask Babar if captaincy is taking a toll on his game and whether the star batter feels he cannot cope with the burden of leading the side.

Babar has been one of Pakistan's most prolific run-getters across formats over the last few years. However, he has struggled with his form of late and has failed to produce big knocks consistently. His rough patch with the bat is a huge concern for Pakistan with the T20 World Cup 2022 starting in Australia this month.

“Babar is a world-class batsman. But the board should ask him if the captaincy is taking a toll on him. There needs to be an honest conversation between him and the board. If he feels he can’t both perform with the bat and lead in the field, then the captaincy shouldn’t stay with him. However, the board should clarify to Babar that he is their preferred choice for captain,” Miandad was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Babar is currently leading Pakistan in the ongoing seven-match T20I series against England at home. The Pakistan skipper has managed to spark some sort of a turnaround but has struggled for consistency. After a terrific century in the second T20I, Babar slammed an unbeaten 87 in the 6th T20I against England in Lahore on Friday.

However, his brilliant knock went in vain as Pakistan failed to defend a total of 169 runs and lost the game by 8 wickets with as many as 33 balls to spare. Babar will be hoping to end the series on a high when Pakistan lock horns with England in the 7th and final T20I on Sunday.

The series is currently locked at 3-3 with the final match a decider at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Pakistan will head to Australia for the T20 World Cup starting later this month after the conclusion of the England series.

PCB should ask Babar Azam if captaincy is taking a toll on him: Javed Miandad on Pakistan skipper's poor form

Shaheen Afridi is on recovery mode. The young pacer got injured during the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Tests, in the Island nation, and missed the Asia Cup before flying to London. While Babar Azam-led Men in Green need him fit desperately before the forthcoming T20 World Cup, with Shaheen already named in the 15-man main squad, former Pakistan pacer Aaquib Javed has shared a bizarre advice for the 22-year-old.

“Fast bowlers like Shaheen Afridi are not born every day. My advice to Shaheen Afridi is not to play the upcoming T20 World Cup because Shaheen is more important than this World Cup," Aaqib was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan. Shaheen was one of the key performers for Babar & Co. in last year's T20 WC, held in the UAE. The pacer wreaked havoc with the ball in Men in Green's face-off versus Team India, returning with the Player-of-the-Match award for 3 for 31, and ended the showpiece event with seven scalps at an average of 24.14 and economy rate of 7.04.

Currently, Shaheen is in London for his rehabilitation and will also miss Pakistan's home series versus England, followed by the tri-series in New Zealand (also featuring Bangladesh). However, the whole of Pakistan have their hopes alive of seeing him return to action when they take on India in their 2022 T20 WC opener, at the iconic MCG, Melbourne on October 23.

"Shaheen Shah Afridi requires uninterrupted, dedicated knee specialist care and London offers some of the best sports medical and rehabilitation facilities in the world. In the best interest of the player, we have decided to send him there," PCB Chief Medical Officer, Dr Najeebullah Soomro shared in a statement released by ICC.

The release further added, "Whilst in London, Shaheen will remain under the supervision of the PCB Medical Advisory Panel, which also comprises London-based Dr Imtiaz Ahmad and Dr Zafar Iqbal. Since 2016, Dr Imtiaz has been the Head of Medical Services at the Queens Park Rangers Football Club, while Dr Zafar is Head of Sports Medicine at the Crystal Palace Football Club since 2015 (having worked previously with Tottenham Hotspur FC, Liverpool FC and Kent County Cricket Club)."

Don't play T20 World Cup: Aaquib Javed's absurd suggestion to Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja has issued a warning to the Babar Azam-led side ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022, stating that losing will not be an option for them in the upcoming world cup. Pakistan will start as one of the strongest contenders for the title at the World Cup which is set to get underway in Australia next month.

Pakistan have been in sublime form in T20Is over the last few years and have enjoyed great success in the tournament. Ahead of the showpiece event, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja was asked what are his expectations from the team this year. Raja said he has already told the players losing won't be an option for them at the World Cup. Feel like hitting people around me when I see Pakistan losing, I am a terrible watcher: PCB chief Ramiz Raja

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja recently responded to former all-rounder Shahid Afridi's shocking statement about injured fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi. Afridi had recently claimed Shaheen, who is recovering from an injury, has travelled to England at his own expense and is undergoing treatment on his own.

Speaking on a Pakistani news channel, Afridi claimed Shaheen has received no support from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) despite being one of the superstars in the current Pakistan team. His statement soon went viral on social media and became a major talking point in the Pakistan cricket fraternity, inviting criticism for the PCB.

However, PCB chief Raja has denied Afridi's allegations and has termed the entire saga an “unfortunate controversy”. Raja said there was some ticketing issue in Shaheen's case as he had to leave early and the left-arm pacer didn't like the place that PCB had arranged for his treatment so he opted for treatment from another doctor.

“How can you even think that PCB can disown Shaheen Afridi? It is beyond my understanding. It’s an unfortunate controversy," Ramiz said on PCB's official YouTube channel.

"When Rizwan fell ill during the T20 World Cup 2022, who took care of him? Our doctor's panel stayed up all night to treat him, they got him fit and they ensured he played in the final (semi-final). It could be that in this case, there was a lack of clarity.

"Because he had to leave quickly from Dubai, maybe there was some ticketing issue. Because he went where he had to go, but he didn't like the place, so he went somewhere else,” added the PCB chief.

Shaheen has been one of the vital cogs in Pakistan set up in all three formats for the last few years. The premier fast bowler has been among the most prolific wicket-takers for Pakistan in international cricket and has quickly established his credentials as one of the most exciting pacers in the world at present.

How can you even think that PCB can disown Shaheen? Ramiz Raja on Shahid Afridi's shocking statement

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja recently opened up on snapping at an Indian journalist after his team's loss in the Asia Cup 2022 final. The Babar Azam-led side had lost the summit clash against Sri Lanka by 23 runs after failing to chase down the target of 171 runs.

While Pakistan's poor show in the final drew criticism from all corners, one of the biggest talking points was Raja losing his cool at a journalist after the game. The incident happened outside the Dubai International Stadium where reporters were waiting with questions for the PCB chief after Pakistan's loss in the final.

The Indian journalist asked Raja about his views on the Pakistani fans who were disappointed after the defeat. The PCB chief lost his cool on hearing the question and went on to ask the journalist if he was from India. He then snatched the reporter's phone before returning it back.

The clip of the incident had gone viral on social media with the Indian fans lashing out at the PCB chief over his behaviour. Raja opened up about the incident during a Q&A with fans on Pakistan Cricket's official YouTube channel. The PCB chief said the Indian reporter's line of questioning was not right and labelled his questions 'provocative'.

"I'll tell you what happened. The line of questioning was not right. The only point that I had was, the reporter asked that all Pakistan fans are angry with the loss in Asia Cup final, I just asked him how does he know that fans are angry? You are sitting in a different area, so how do you know the fans are unhappy," said Raja.

"These are provocative statements, if you do not have any malice in your heart, it will come through. Anyway, it was just one incident, we shall let it go," he added.

'Provocative statement': PCB chief Ramiz Raja opens up on losing cool at Indian journalist post Asia Cup final

On Thursday (September 15), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 15-man squad for Babar Azam-led Men in Green's upcoming T20 World Cup campaign, in Australia from October-November, and the home T20Is versus England, starting on September 20 at Karachi.

Shan Masood, uncapped in this format at the international level, was included in a bid to solve Pakistan's middle-order woes in the run-up to the showpiece event and the left-hander will hope to make a mark instantly in the forthcoming England series. The rest of the squad primarily features the players who featured in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, where Babar & Co. ended as runners-up. Following the squad announcement by PCB chief selector Wasim Mohammad, former pacer Md Amir took a dig at Wasim.

The squad didn't include the likes of experienced campaigners such as Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed. On the other hand, Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman -- both in recovery mode from respective injury concerns -- have been named in the main squad and reserves, respectively.

Speaking to the reporters after the squad announcement, PCB chief selector Wasim said, "We have a team that can perform strongly in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. That’s why we have shown faith and confidence in almost the same set of players who have been part of the T20I squad post the 2021 World Cup in the UAE."

"These players have performed well since November 2021, and that’s why we have won nine out of our last 13 T20Is. We have invested in these cricketers and it is fair to them that they get the opportunity to show their mettle in the World Cup, an event for which they have been preparing and training hard," he added.

Pakistan will play seven T20Is at home versus England and then fly to New Zealand where they play a tri-series, involving the hosts and Bangladesh before departing for Australia for the T20 WC. In the last edition of the World Cup, Babar & Co. ended as semi-finalists after losing to eventual winners Australia.

'Cheap selection': Md Amir takes a dig at PCB chief selector Wasim after Pakistan announce T20 WC squad

Pakistan announced a 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup on Thursday (September 15). With the mega event set to be held in Australia from next month, Babar Azam & Co. have named a strong squad including Shaheen Afridi. The premier pacer suffered a knee injury during the Sri Lanka Test series and was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 edition, where the Men in Green lost the final to Sri Lanka.

Shaheen was present with the Pakistan team and even cheered for them in the stands during their opening clash in the continental tournament, versus arch-rivals India. From there on, he left for London for his rehabilitation programme. Shahid Afridi, Shaheen's future father-in-law, has now made a big claim that the speedster is funding his London stay and hasn't been helped by the Ramiz Raja-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Giving insights into the whole situation, Afridi, in an interview with Samma TV, revealed, "When I talk about Shaheen.. that guy went to England on his own. He bought his own ticket; he spent his own money to stay in a hotel. I arranged a doctor for him, then he contacted the doctor. PCB is not doing anything; he is doing that on his own."

"Everything, from coordination to doctors to his hotel room and food expenses, he is paying out of his own pocket. As far as I know, Zakir Khan talked to him 1-2 times, but that was it," the ex-Pakistan captain further added.

Zakir is currently the Director of Cricket for international tours at the PCB. The board, however, rubbished all claims made by Shahid Afridi and shared a statement saying, "The PCB is also pleased to advise and update that Shaheen Shah Afridi is making excellent progress in his rehabilitation in London and is on track to make a full recovery in time for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022.

"It goes without saying that the PCB has always been and will continue to be responsible for arranging medical care and rehabilitation of all its players requiring any treatment."

'PCB is not doing anything' - Shahid Afridi claims pacer Shaheen is funding his London stay

Babar Azam has done well as Pakistan's captain across formats. Under him, Babar-led Men in Green reached the semi-finals of the 2021 T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup final. However, a big title still eludes skipper Babar. He will be hoping to turn things for his national side by taking them to the coveted title in the forthcoming 2022 T20 WC, to be held in Australia from October-November.

After Pakistan's Asia Cup final loss to Sri Lanka by 23 runs, in Dubai, many slammed Babar for not using his bowlers smartly in the summit clash. His own failures with the bat -- where he amassed only 68 runs in five outings in the continental tournament -- hasn't helped his cause. Now, veteran keeper-batter Kamran Akmal has revealed that he had advised Babar to not take up Pakistan captaincy.

Akmal revealed on a YouTube show, as quoted by Hindustan times, "During a T20I in Faisalabad when Babar was walking out for the toss, I got to know that he is being made captain. That is when I told him... 'I don't think now is the right time for you to become captain. Give your best performances in the next 2-3 years. The batting line-up is depended on you. Reach Virat Kohli's level first, Steve Smith's level. By then, you would have scored 35-40 centuries and enjoy captaincy. The moment Sarfaraz leaves, you will be next in line. But now is the right time. I told him back in the day but it was his decision. Those who were close to him, must have spoken to him and advised him to take up captaincy."

Babar was appointed as Pakistan's T20I in late 2019 before being given the post in ODIs early next year. Later in the same year, he was promoted as the full-time captain. Kamran, however, added that he believes that Pakistan cricket will move backwards if they remove Babar from the captaincy post.

"I had also told him to only concentrate on his batting. He was scoring runs and would have continued to do so. The flow was beautiful. People enjoyed watching him bat. With captaincy, there will be pressure, which will affect his batting, his approach. And somewhere, that is visible now. But at the same time removing him as captain right now would be a big blunder on the part of the team management. Pakistan cricket will go back," added the veteran.

Pakistan locked horns with Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022 edition's final on September 11 at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Opting to bowl first, Babar Azam & Co. had restricted the Lankans to 58 for 5 before Bhanuka Rajapaksa's 71 and Wanindu Hasaranga's 21-ball 36 propelled their side to a competitive 170 for 6 in 20 overs. In reply, the Men in Green never got going in their run-chase and were dismissed for 147 in their full quota of overs with Pramod Madushan and spin-bowling all-rounder Hasaranga sharing seven scalps in between.

After Pakistan's disappointing loss in the summit clash, which led Dasun Shanaka & Co. to win their sixth Asia Cup title, legendary cricketer Javed Miandad has ripped apart the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not using his services, along with many other national heroes.

"People like me are literally sitting here. Personally, I don't want anything but use us! I have always kept Pakistan first. You have people here. We don't want money. I'm sure the players will benefit from my presence. I come with a lot of experience. The way they lost, it hurts,” Miandad told Cricket Pakistan.

“It's actually shameful. You have so many people here, where is your nationalism? What Pakistan are you talking about?” Miandad further pointed out. Being asked to bat first, SL were in a spot of bother and tottering at 58-5 in 8.5 overs before Bhanuka Rajapaksa's 45-ball 71 and Wanindu Hasaranga's 21-ball 36 propelled the Islanders to a competitive 170-6 in 20 overs. In reply, Pakistan were never in the run-chase and got dismissed for 147 (20) with Pramod Madushan, Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne sharing nine scalps in between. After the clash, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja was asked about the national side's loss in the summit clash of the continental tournament and he made heads turn with his behaviour.

An Indian reporter asked him if he had a message for the Pakistan fans, back home, post the defeat. To this, Ramiz said, "You must be from India and will be very happy now that Pakistan has lost”. Later, the reporter argued that he wasn't happy as well but the argument continued between the duo before Ramiz slammed him and even grabbed his phone to move ahead and answer another reporter's question. The video has gone viral in no time. Here's the clip:

At the post-match presentation, Babar said, "Congratulations to Sri Lanka for playing outstanding cricket. We dominated them for the first eight overs, but the partnership that Rajapaska got was amazing. This was a true wicket and it is always nice playing in Dubai. We didn't bat according to our potential. We started well, but we gave away 15-20 extra runs and couldn't finish well. A lot of positives for us to take. In a final, the margin for mistakes is lesser. Our fielding wasn't up to the mark and the batting couldn't finish it off well. But Rizwan, Naseem and Nawaz were positives. Ups and downs will be there, but it would be nicer if we made lesser mistakes."

Pakistan will focus on the positives from the multi-nation tournament and regroup before the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, to be held in October-November in Australia.

Shocking! Ramiz loses cool at Indian reporter on being asked about Pakistan's Asia Cup final loss - Watch

Pakistan were dealt a huge blow when Shaheen Afridi injured himself during the first Test versus Sri Lanka last month. The left-arm pacer suffered a knee injury and, hence, has been ruled out of the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, set to get underway on August 27 in the UAE.

However, an injured Shaheen has travelled to the UAE for the Asian championship with the Babar Azam-led squad. Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson opened up in this regard and revealed the reason behind the 22-year-old's presence in the Pakistan squad.

"Babar wanted him to stay with the team. Management wants to closely monitor his injury rehab. He will be staying in Dubai itself with the team," PCB spokesperson confirmed to the local media in Pakistan.

Why has injured Shaheen Afridi travelled to UAE with Pak team for Asia Cup? PCB spokesperson reveals

Babar Azam-led Pakistan were thrashed by Sri Lanka, by 246 runs, as the two-match Test series between the Asian giants ended in a 1-1 stalemate in the Island nation. Earlier, Babar & Co. had won the series opener by four wickets, in pursuit of 342.

After the Test series, many slammed the team selection of the Babar-led side as some former cricketers raised questions over all-rounder Shadab Khan's absence whereas Md Rizwan was also slammed, for being backed despite low scores since his hundred versus Australia, in the home Test series early this year. Since then, he has had scores of 1, 0, 19, 40, 24, and 37.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has now opened up on Rizwan's recent low scores. The ex all-rounder believes certain pressure needs to be on the keeper-batter after his poor performances with the bat. "You have to keep pressure. The more stronger the bench is, the more careful the player will be about his performance. Rizwan hasn't been performing, and I believe that on tours like this, Sarfaraz coud have been given an opportunity (who last played a Test three years ago, versus South Africa),” Afridi said on Samaa TV.

When asked by the anchor about how people include arguments over city biases (Sarfaraz hails from Karachi, Pakistan) as a reason for a player's selection in the national side, Afridi made a glaring remark.

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in their challenging 342-run chase in the first Test at Galle International Stadium, Galle on Wednesday (July 22). The Babar Azam-led side had conceded a slender four-run lead to the Dimuth Karunaratne-led Islanders and had a stiff task to chase 342, however, they rode on vital knocks from Babar, Md Rizwan and opener Abdullah Shafique's 160 not out to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

After Pakistan's historic win, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has fired shots at some other teams by saying that he doesn't ever interfere in team selections even though it is his right. While he didn't mention any other team, sides such as South Africa, India, etc. are nowadays playing with different captains. India have had as many as six captains in 2022 with Shikhar Dhawan to join the list on Friday (July 22), in the ODI series opener versus hosts West Indies. On the other hand, SA are touring England with Keshav Maharaj leading in ODIs, David Miller in T20Is and Dean Elgar to captain the Test side.

They will realise that if your captain isn't strong, your team can't progress. I haven't interfered in the team selections, even though I can do it. It is my right."

"I know the strategies, I know our match-winners. But when you offer accountability and freedom to operate, the players can take the team further up with performances. You can't run cricket sitting on sidelines. It won't be a successful model. We have created a positive environment. Everyone knows I am a phone call away if there are any problems. As an ex-cricketer, I know the issues players might face, so it is important to create that sort of environment,” he added.

After a memorable win in the opening Test, Babar-led Pakistan will be eager to whitewash the series and increase their chances of entering the final of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Pakistan's out-of-favour keeper-batter Kamran Akmal isn't one to shy away from expressing his opinions and recently lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not allowing opener Ahmed Shehzad's entry into the high-performance camp.

While Shehzad was in the news recently when he slammed Waqar Younis -- former Pakistan bowling coach -- for his omission from the national squad and and stated that he was not allowed to tell his side of the story, the elder of the Akmal brothers, i.e. Kamran also spoke about Shehzad not being allowed to enter the high-performance training camp on Youtube channel paktv.tv.

“They don't allow him in the high-performance training camp. They told him that players who are out of the side for the past 2 years are not allowed. This is the state (of cricket here). They are basically denying entry to players who have represented Pakistan in 100-150 matches. I don't know where we are going,” Akmal said.

In addition, the 40-year-old Akmal claimed that the process of sending an email to PCB to enter the high-performance camp should be solely for the U-19 players and not for the ones who have represented the senior men's team for a good amount of time. In this regard, he opined, "You've made high-performance camp for cricketers. At least make it available for them. Now, you have to send e-mail to team's office before entering. What's the logic behind this? Even if you are making such SOPs, do this for U19 players."

'Don't know where...': Kamran lashes out at PCB for preventing Shehzad's entry into high-performance camp

Following the end of the IPL media rights auction, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had made a big revelation that the board plans to extend the window for the cash-rich league from the next season, in order to have more international players available throughout an edition. Following this, reports were flowing in that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is unhappy with this development and is set to discuss the matter at ICC's board meeting, to be held later this year in Birmingham.

"From the next FTP cycle, IPL will have an official two-and-a-half-month window so that all the top international cricketers can participate. We have had discussions with various boards as well as the ICC," Shah had told PTI.

Thus, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has now reacted to the proposed plan of extending the IPL window from next year. In this regard, the former Pakistan captain said during a media interaction on Friday (June 24), "There has been no announcement or decision as yet on the IPL window being increased. I will give my views on this issue at the ICC conference."

Ramiz has also opined on his plans of seeing India-Pakistan lock horns on the 22-yard cricket strip outside ICC tournaments. In this context, he had suggested for a multi-team tournament several times in the recent past. He revealed, "I have spoken to Sourav on the sidelines on this, and I told him that presently there are three former cricketers heading their cricket boards and if they can't make a difference, who will? Twice Ganguly has invited me to attend the IPL finals last year and this year, and cricketing-wise, it made sense to go, but then, because of the situation, we had to look at the fallout of accepting the invitations," he further added.

'Will challenge it....' - PCB chairman Ramiz Raja breaks silence on IPL's two-and-a-half month window

On Wednesday (June 22), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced an 18-member squad for Pakistan's forthcoming two-match Test series versus Sri Lanka, which will get underway on July 16 in Galle. The squad sees the return of former captain and wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed whereas veteran spinner Yasir Shah has also regained his spot, after missing out on the home Test series versus Australia early this year.

Yasir was last seen in action for Pakistan against West Indies, held last year, but wasn't prefered for the home Tests against Pat Cummins-led Aussies. He reclaimed his place, leading to Sajid Khan's omission. After the team was announced, former spinner Danish Kaneria slammed PCB and came down heavily on the selection. He didn't approve of Sarfaraz's return and also feels that Sajid should have retained his spot after playing all Tests versus the Baggy Greens.

"I don't understand on what basis the selectors have picked the team. It seems like the selectors will never improve and think about players while picking a team. I don't know how Ramiz (Raja) approved this team. Some changes were needed after Australia defeated Pakistan in their own backyard. Off-spinner Sajid Khan played all the Test matches against Australia, but Pakistan didn't give a chance to Yasir Shah, who would have gotten exposed against the Aussie batters. Sajid has been unfairly treated. They also removed Usman Qadir and didn't play him against Australia either. Zahid Mahmood was also omitted without any reason. I'm not sure whether Babar (Azam) or (Mohammad) Wasim are picking the team or doing favours for friends," Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

"Sarfaraz has also been included in the Test set-up. He won't be getting into the eleven because of Mohammad Rizwan. Instead of Sarfaraz, a young player could have been a part of the side. They also put Haris Rauf in the Test squad, but Shahnawaz Dahani can be a better bowler in the longer format. Rauf should have been kept for the T20 format."

"Pakistan need to make a team for the future, but it seems like the current selection committee is doing favours. One who offers gifts and keeps selectors happy gets into the team. Hardworking and honest players are being treated unfairly," Kaneria added.

Babar-led Pakistan will play two Tests in the Island nation, next month, in Galle and Colombo, respectively. They are ranked fifth in the points table of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship, a spot below Dimuth Karunaratne-led Sri Lanka.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been rocked after a female cricketer levelled shocking allegations against a national-level coach in the country. The female cricketer alleged the coach got close to her with promises of selection in a domestic women's team and allegedly sexually molested her. The cricketer has registered a complaint with the police while PCB has also taken cognizance of the matter.

The cricketer has accused Nadeem Iqbal, a national-level coach in Pakistan of molesting her. As per reports in the Pakistani media, Nadeem, a former first-class cricketer, was one of the coaches when PCB women's trials were conducted in Multan a few years ago. The cricketer had gone there for trails where she met Nadeem.

She revealed the coach promised her selection in the team and also employment on the board before molesting her. She also claimed that Nadeem later also involved his friends and recorded videos of her to blackmail her with the footage.

"He got close to me with promises of selecting me for the women's team and also getting me employment on the board. But over time he kept on sexually molesting me and also involved his friends. He also had me video-taped and later kept on blackmailing me," the cricketer alleged in a video.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has reacted sharply and decided to suspend Nadeem as a coach. The board, however, has refused to carry out an investigation into the matter with a PCB official suggesting that the police should rather conduct an enquiry into the case.

“Obviously, we can’t carry out any criminal investigation that is for the police to do but our inquiry will find out if he was in breach of his terms of contract with us," said a PCB official was quoted as saying by PTI, on conditions of anonymity.

Nadeem, who hails from the Multan region, made his first-class debut in the same year as the legendary Waqar Younis and went on to play 80 matches in his first-class career picking up 258 wickets. He was known for his ability to swing the ball with pace and was once considered a better bowler than Younis, who scalped 789 wickets for Pakistan in international cricket.

'He kept on sexually molesting me': Pakistan cricket Board suspends coach after shocking allegations

The IPL media rights auction was a huge hit as many had their eyes glued on how the proceedings would eventually end. After a three-day auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) laughed its way to the bank by earning a staggering INR 48,390.52 crore from the media rights auction for IPL 2023-27, i.e. more than two and a half times the amount it earned for the previous cycle in 2018.

Thus, IPL continues to grow worldwide and is now also the second most lucrative sports league across the globe, only behind National Football League (NFL). After the auction, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah was elated with IPL's rising demand and revealed that from the next season, the cash-rich league's window will expand further, i.e. for a two-and-a-half-month period.

"From the next FTP cycle, IPL will have an official two-and-a-half-month window so that all the top international cricketers can participate. We have had discussions with various boards as well as the ICC," Shah had said in an interview with PTI. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) isn't happy with this development.

Reacting to Shah's revelation, PCB is now eyeing the ICC board meeting at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham to discuss the topic in length.

"The ICC board meeting will be held during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July and this matter will probably be discussed there," a PCB source said, as per PTI. "Mr Jay Shah has said the BCCI is committed to international bilateral cricket but with so many leagues cropping up and the IPL planning expansion this has to be discussed among the cricket boards," the PCB official further added.
