Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed made a stunning return to the Test side with three back-to-back fifties and a hundred across four innings against New Zealand in the recently-concluded Test series. Ending the two-match series with 335 runs, Sarfaraz not only was leading the runs chart but also ensured his place in the team for the upcoming tours. Sarfaraz replaced Mohammad Rizwan in the Test side after the ranked number 2 batter in T20Is failed to leave an impact during the England Tests at home scoring a mere 141 runs across six innings at an average of 23.50.

Following Sarfaraz coming-of- age hundred against the Kiwis in the second innings of the Karachi Test, new interim chief selector, Shahid Afridi had some encouraging words for him. While Afridi praised Sarfaraz for showing character and delivering it for the team, he made it clear that Mohammad Rizwan will remain Pakistan’s main keeper-batter in white-ball format at least.

Addressing the same in a presser, the former Pakistan skipper said, “I’m very happy that Saifi (Sarfaraz) has made a comeback and given such an amazing performance, but Mohammad Rizwan is available and he is our main wicket-keeper in both T20Is and ODIs.”

“God forbid if Rizwan gets injured or if he’s tired, we’ll then consider other options. Let’s not mix someone’s Test performance with that of limited overs,” Afridi further added.

After a rather dismal show in Tests at home, where Pakistan failed to win a single Test in the whole season, the action will now move to the One-Dayers that are starting from January 9th in Karachi. The three-match ODIs will be played at the National Stadium itself.

While Mohammad Rizwan was picked in the 16-man ODI squad, Sarfaraz was overlooked as of now. Big names like Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf also made a return alongside Haris Sohail, who will be seen playing in ODIs for the first time since October 2020.

Tensions are rising between India and Pakistan cricketing establishments, Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Najam Aziz Sethi has taken a sarcastic jibe at the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah claiming that he unilaterally announced the Asian Cricket Council's two-year calendar.

Cricket boards at war: Row over Asia Cup intensifies, BCCI and PCB on collision course again

Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah -- also the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief -- confirmed that this year's Asia Cup will be at a neutral venue as India won't travel to Pakistan -- where the edition is scheduled to be held. It&nbsp;raised eyebrows and saw the then Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja lash out at Shah.&nbsp;

A lot was said and written as Pakistan have threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup, to be held in India later this year, if the Asia Cup is held at a neutral venue. Many also backed India's stance of not touring Pakistan, following the 2008 Mumbai blasts, whereas some felt Shah shouldn't have spoken about the Asia Cup when addressing the media at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October.

On Thursday (January 05), ACC chairman Shah&nbsp;released the calendar for 2023 and 2024. He tweeted, "Presenting the @ACCMedia1 pathway structure &amp; cricket calendars for 2023 &amp; 2024! This signals our unparalleled efforts &amp; passion to take this game to new heights. With cricketers across countries gearing up for spectacular performances, it promises to be a good time for cricket."

Later, Sethi also slammed Shah in an exclusive interaction with Sports Tak. In the interview, he slammed BCCI saying 'it is an independent board' and not reliant on the government to finalise whether to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and feels if India doesn't want to visit their neighbouring country for the continental tournament, Pakistan also have a right to ask for the ODI World Cup to be held elsewhere.

'What type of standards are these?'

Sethi said, "If you won't come to Pakistan and then say come to India. What type of standards are these? I believe that politics should be kept far aside. BCCI is an independent board but ours (PCB) is linked to the government. So definitely we have to take many permissions from the government but the BCCI considers itself as an independent and private unit then such type of politics isn't necessary." He stated, "What is neutral venue? Why should we host our tournament in a neutral country? Let's play the 2023 World Cup match between India and Pakistan at a neutral venue in Australia then."

Sethi asserted, "Earlier also Mr Jay Shah gave a statement in which my predecessor Mr Ramiz Raja was not happy with that and expressed disappointment. He announced before that we (India) won't play against Pakistan in Pakistan." He added, "So the thing is on one side you want Pakistan to come and play the World Cup (2023) in India. On the other end, you say we don't want to go to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup. Tomorrow when the Champions Trophy will be played in Pakistan, won't you play that as well?."

While the Asia Cup has been confirmed to be held in September, there is nothing official regarding which country will host the event. Moreover, Pakistan have threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, if they are deprived of hosting rights for the continental event. Hence, some big decisions are on the way with regard to both events.

Pakistan are also scheduled to host the 2025 Champions Trophy. Hence, a lot will depend on how things pan out this year before the next CT, i.e. regarded as a mini version of the WC.

'You want Pakistan to come for ODI WC, but don't want to visit us for Asia Cup?' PCB chief slams Jay Shah

After a disappointing run in Tests in 2022, Pakistan have started their 2023 season with the second and final Test versus New Zealand in Karachi. The series opener ended in a draw, where New Zealand got a healthy first-innings lead and dominated the game, whereas the final encounter is also heading towards a draw.

For quite sometime, Pakistan have been poor in Tests and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been strongly criticised for producing poor surfaces, favouring only the batters. It was evident in the Pakistan-Australia series and also the case in the England series. As a result, Pakistan bowlers couldn't impress and their batters fell behind as compared to their counterparts' free-flowing approach. Pakistan lost 1-0 to Australia and suffered their first-ever Test series whitewash with Ben Stokes &amp; Co. hammering them 3-0.

As the New Zealand series has also been a sluggish affair, with pitches being flat as ever, former Kiwi cricketer Simon Doull made a glaring remark. He asked if&nbsp;such pitches are demanded by captain Babar Azam for him&nbsp;to improve his numbers in&nbsp;Tests.

"Where does that directive come from? Does that come from Babar who wants to bat on a road and improve his own stats?" Doull questioned. "Does it come from above him?" the co-commentator responded.

In reply, Pakistan managed 408 and the Kiwis have now taken the overall lead beyond the 200-run mark towards the close of the fourth and penultimate day's play.

The visitors will look for quick runs in the remainder of Day 4 and bat a few overs on the final day before asking Pakistan to come out and chase a competitive score.&nbsp;At present, a result looks tough on such a surface.

'Does the directive come from Babar Azam?': Simon Doull's glaring remark on Pakistan pitches during 2nd Test

Pakistan cricket is going through a lot in recent times. Recently, Ramiz Raja was ousted as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief. The former Pakistan captain took over the post in September 2021 but was severely criticised for the dead pitches Pakistan offered in home Tests, the national side's inability to win Asia Cup and T20 World Cups (in 2021 and 2022) and all hell broke loose following Babar Azam &amp; Co.'s 3-0 whitewash over England on home soil in December 2022.

Following his stint, with Najam Sethi succeeding him, ex-PCB chief Ramiz has opened up on several decisions he took during his tenure. At first, Ramiz had removed the then head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis right before the 2021 T20 WC, in the UAE. Reflecting on his decision, Ramiz recently stated that he doesn't regret this call and felt the need to remove them during his commentary stints. He further mentioned that they were given full payments for two years and respected fully.

“They received their full payments for two years. They were given full respect. As a chairman, it was my right to dismiss them. Even now, they are talking about removing Saqlain Mushtaq and replacing him with Mickey Arthur. I made contracts in such a way that I didn't want the board to be left with a coaching setup for three years,” Raja told Samaa TV.

Ramiz added, "We had yearly contracts. They (Misbah and Waqar) would've left in January/February anyway. We brought a new management. It wasn't easy for me. I've played with Waqar, I talked to him in detail. The CEO talked to Misbah. It obviously didn't look good that the change took place with a week or 10 days before the T20 World Cup.&nbsp;But I had an idea that we could only go to a certain extent with them. When I used to do commentary, I realised that a change was necessary."

'It was my right...': Ex-PCB chief Ramiz Raja opens up on Misbah, Waqar sacking before 2021 T20 WC

In a step to encourage fans to come and watch Test cricket&nbsp;live inside the stadium, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced free entry for all the fans for the second Test between Pakistan&nbsp;and New Zealand at the National Cricket Stadium in Karachi, starting January 2nd. During the drawn first Test at the same venue, the PCB failed to attract crowd as most of the stands remained empty throughout the game.

Now for the second Test, the board has given fans the leverage to come and sit wherever they want – be it in the premium or even first-class stands. While the cricket lovers can only enter inside the stadium if they bring their original CNIC or B-form.

Addressing the same, PCB said in a statement, "The spectators are only required to bring either their original CNIC or B-form to enter the stadium and they will be able to watch the action free of cost from any of the premium (Imran Khan, Quaid, Wasim Akram and Zaheer Abbas), first class (Asif Iqbal, Waqar Hassan and Majid Khan) and general enclosures (Muhammad Brothers and Intikhab Alam)."

Besides it was also mentioned that no eatables or drinks will be allowed to carry.

"No eatables, drinks, glass/plastic bottles, any flag except Pakistani flag and New Zealand flags are allowed in the stadium," statement added.

As per the Dawn, the board has also approached schools and other educational institutions asking them to send children and youngsters to watch the second Test live at the National Stadium.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has struggled to put up applaudable performances in Tests at home this year. After losing to Australia early this year, Pakistan was whitewashed by the touring England team (3-0). Against the Kiwis in the first Test, Babar Azam-led side struggled to dominate once again as they narrowly escaped yet another loss on the home soil.

Given the next Test will take place next year in 2023, Pakistan team and its fans will be hoping for an improved performance.

PAK vs NZ 2023: Free entry for fans for the 2nd Test in Karachi - PCB

Ramiz Raja was recently removed as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman. His stint was a controversial one with New Zealand withdrawing from their tour of Pakistan&nbsp;in September 2021&nbsp;just before the tour opener, whereas England cricket team also followed suit. While Australia toured and England also followed suit, with the Kiwis currently in Pakistan for two Tests and three ODIs, Team Pakistan also had a mixed run -- ending second in Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022 -- before losing their first-ever Test series on home soil (against England).

Following the England Tests, Ramiz was ousted as the PCB chief. During his tenure, he spoke a lot against Indian cricket and often slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). All hell broke loose when Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that India won't travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup and the continental tournament will be held at a neutral venue.

In reply, Ramiz slammed the BCCI and also went onto claim that Pakistan won't travel to India for the ODI World Cup, later next year, if the Asia Cup is moved out of Pakistan.

Speaking on Duniya News, the 60-year-old Ramiz has once again lashed out at the BCCI. He has urged the new PCB management to not fulfil each and every demand of the BCCI and show some leadership, which he claims was evident during his stint.

He&nbsp;said, "One positive from my stint as a chairman was that I provided leadership. If you remember, New Zealand had left, and we told them that what you did was unfair. The England team refused to come; we spoke with them, following which they played 7 T20Is instead of 5, two extra. The ECB staff visited Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium; they came to my office and apologised. Similarly, Australia also visited."

"What is leadership? When Asian Cricket Council has asked Pakistan to host a tournament and then India says they won't travel to Pakistan and shift the tournament to a neutral venue, what should be the response?&nbsp;Kya hum sab servant rahenge India ke, kyunki woh ek world power hain apne hisab se. Kya hum har cheez unki mante jayenge?" (Are we servants of India just because they are a world power in cricket? Should we listen to everything they say?)," Ramiz questioned.

The former Pakistan captain further believes that Pakistan is moving in the right direction and the current crop of players, and fans, should be respected by everyone and no one has a right to move Asia Cup out of the country. Ramiz added, "The Pakistan cricket team is enjoying a great run; you have a good fan following; you have superstars, so please give your team and fans the respect they deserve. There should be a decision on the matter, as the tournament was given to Pakistan, so how can it be shifted to a neutral venue without consulting us or the ACC members."

'Are we servants of India just because they are a world power?' - Ramiz Raja slams BCCI over Asia Cup 2023 row

While there remains tension between India and Pakistan, due to the political relation, with both sides reluctant to travel to their respective nations for next year's Asia Cup and ODI World Cup, the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) is keen on hosting a Test match between the two heavyweights at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne. This comes after the success of hosting the two Asian giants in the 2022 T20 World Cup on October 23.

While speaking on SEN radio during Day Four of the second and penultimate Test between Australia and South Africa, on Thursday (December 29), the MCC chief executive Stuart Fox revealed that the club, along with the Victoria government, had made an inquiry to Cricket Australia (CA) about hosting a neutral Test between India and Pakistan. A CA spokesperson has, in turn, confirmed ESPNCricinfo that the final decision to host a Test or a full series solely rests on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

"Absolutely. Three [Tests] in a row would be lovely at the MCG. You'd fill it every time. We have asked," Fox said. "We've taken that up with Cricket Australia. I know the [Victoria] government has as well. Again, it's enormously complicated from what I can understand, amongst a really busy schedule. So I think that's probably the greater challenge," he opined.

"Wouldn't it be great that it wasn't just Australia-centric and Victoria-centric, that we're catering for all the countries and filling the stadium all the time. So we have asked. "Hopefully, Cricket Australia keep taking it up with the ICC and keep pushing for it. When you do see some of the stadiums around the world unoccupied, I think it would be much better to have a full house and that atmosphere and celebrating the game with full houses," Fox further added.

India and Pakistan last played a Test series in 2007 when Anil Kumble-led India won 1-0. The two nations nowadays only meet in multi-nation or ICC events and their last face-off came during the 2022 T20 WC, in Australia, where Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. beat Babar Azam-led Men in Green by four wickets in a last-ball thriller at a jam-packed MCG, Melbourne.

In the ongoing second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, India and Australia have a strong chance of meeting in the final in June 2023. Pakistan, after their home series defeat versus England, have been out of contention. Currently, there is nothing scheduled between India-Pakistan&nbsp;for any bilateral cricket on the Future Tours Program (FTP) between 2023-2027, and, hence, if MCG manages to host even a Test, it will be a sellout in no time.&nbsp;

After T20 World Cup success, MCC keen on hosting India-Pakistan Test at the MCG

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has landed himself in hot waters as the board has now threatened legal against him over his remarks on the newly-appointed chief Najam Sethi. As the war of words broke out between both parties following Raja's unceremonious exit from the board last Thursday, PCB issued a statement on Wednesday, December 28th, claiming Ramiz's comments&nbsp;that were aimed to tarnish Najam Sethi's image, alongside the language used, has upset the management, who will now take care of the cricketing affairs in the country.&nbsp;

"The Pakistan Cricket Board has expressed its disappointment over the comments made and language used by former Chairman Mr Ramiz Raja against Chairman of the PCB Management Committee Mr Najam Sethi on a social media platform and in a TV interview," the PCB said in a statement.

"The PCB believes former Chairman Mr Raja's comments are aimed at tarnishing and damaging the impeccable reputation of present Chairman Mr Sethi, adding it reserves it's rights to pursue legal proceedings to protect and defend the image and credibility of its Chairman and the institution."

As per Ramiz Raja, he wasn't even allowed to collect his belongings from the board office after he got sacked - the information which even he received in the wee hours before all of this unfolded. On Monday, while revealing what went behind the curtains, Raja said, "Najam Sethi tweets at 2 in the night that Ramiz Raja is out. Is this respect for a former captain? I was not even allowed to go to the office and collect my belongings. The morning after the announcement was made to remove me, they were around 17 people running all over the PCB offices as if they owned it," Raja said on his YouTube channel.

"It was as if I had committed some crime and I would take some incriminating evidence from my office. What tamasha is this? These people have just come to enjoy themselves and get the publicity... they know nothing about cricket." The former batter further said that one shouldn't expect anything good for Pakistan cricket with the new committee in power,&nbsp;while looking disappointed and frustrated over this episode.

Speaking further on this, Raja admitted&nbsp;he knew why he got sacked all of a sudden. A&nbsp;World Cup winner himself, Raja was elected as the board's chairman in 2021 and was slated to stay in power for three years, however, none of that happened.

"What happened to me is just political victimisation and vendetta only because I was appointed by the opposition party although I have no political links with anyone. I was appointed on the basis&nbsp;of&nbsp;my cricket and administrative credentials," Ramiz Raja said.&nbsp;

PCB threatens legal action against former chief Ramiz Raja over glaring remarks on Najam Sethi

A lot of changes have taken place in Pakistan cricket in recent times. Ramiz Raja, the former Pakistan captain, was recently sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s chief with Najam Sethi taking over. Moreover, Shahid Afridi was named the interim chief selector with Abdul Razzaq and&nbsp;Rao Iftikhar Anjum joining him on the panel as well. In addition, a lot has been said about Babar Azam as a Test captain but he remains the full-time skipper as of now.

Ramiz's tenure came to a sudden end after Pakistan lost their first-ever Test series on home soil, with England&nbsp;drubbing them 3-0. A lot has been said and written about his stint as the PCB chief. Recently, Ramiz blasted Najam Sethi and criticised the functioning of the PCB and once again took a shot at Indian cricket while pointing out the achievements of the national side in&nbsp;his tenure.

“We gave outstanding performances in white-ball cricket. We played the Asia Cup final, India didn't play that. India, a billion-dollar industry, was left behind. Tod phod hui, unhone apna chief selector, selection committee fire kar di, captain badal diye, kyunki unko hazam nahi hua ki Pakistan unse kaise aage nikal gaya. (They fired their chief selector, selection committee, changed the captain because they couldn't digest how Pakistan went ahead of them),” Ramiz told&nbsp;Suno TV.

Further, Ramiz talked&nbsp;about being sacked as PCB chairman and said,&nbsp;“This is just like France firing their entire board even after they played in the FIFA World Cup final.”

The former Pakistan star also revealed that he empowered Babar Azam at all times and ensured his best performances as leader of the side. "I tried my level best to keep this team united. I empowered Babar Azam. Cricket is one of those rare sports where captaincy is relevant. If your captain is powerful, results will come, and we have given results,”&nbsp;Ramiz concluded.

At present, PCB has threatened legal action against&nbsp;Ramiz&nbsp;over his outbursts&nbsp;on his successor Najam Sethi. Thus, there is a lot happening in Pakistan cricket amid the national side's ongoing home Tests versus New Zealand.

'They couldn't digest how Pakistan....': Former PCB chief Ramiz Raja again takes a dig at India

The Pakistan Cricket Board is in the grip of a civil war. Ramiz Raja has been sacked as PCB Chief. He's now accusing the Pak Govt of 'political interference'.

Gravitas: Ramiz Raja sacked as PCB chief, accuses govt of 'interference'

Ramiz Raja was sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief soon after Pakistan were whitewashed in their home Tests versus England. Ramiz, who took over in September 2021, had a mixed run as the PCB chairman and has now been succeeded by Najam Sethi, who has earlier held the post. After his sudden ouster from the top post, the former Pakistan captain hasn't taken his unceremonious exit very well and lashed out at his successor.&nbsp;

After the end of his stint as the PCB chief, Ramiz is back on his Youtube channel and recently conducted a Q/A session with his subscribers, where he severely criticised Najam. "To accommodate one person, Sethi to be precise, they had to change the entire constitution (of the PCB). I have not seen this anywhere in the world. It has been done in the middle of a season, when teams are visiting Pakistan. They have changed the chief selector, who had played Test cricket. At 2 am in the night, he (Sethi) tweets that Ramiz Raja is gone. This is my playing field. It hurts," he said on his channel.&nbsp;

Rami highlighted that Mickey Arthur may return as the Pakistan head coach and claimed, "It has been made out as if a messiah (Sethi) has come, who will take the game to new heights. We know what he is up to. He wants limelight at any cost. He has nothing to do with cricket, and has never lifted a bat. They have changed me midway. In the middle of the season they are bringing Micky Arthur. Saqlain Mushtaq's tenure was ending anyway in January. Saqlain has played over 50 (49) Tests, he is a legend. This is no way to treat the cricketers."

There has been a lot of unrest in Pakistan cricket of late. Given the team has not been able to perform as per expectations in big events and at home, Ramiz has been shown the door and the onus is now on Sethi. It will be interesting to see if he responds to Ramiz's allegations or not in the coming future.

'He wants limelight, has nothing to do...': Ramiz Raja on Najam Sethi after being sacked as PCB chairman

Shortly after Pakistan was whitewashed in their three-match home Test series versus England, Ramiz Raja was sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief. Ramiz's tenure was expected to come to an end soon after Imran Khan, Pakistan's World Cup-winning skipper, resigned as the country's Prime Minister in April, however, the ex-captain held onto the post for a longer period.&nbsp;

Nonetheless, all hell broke loose for Ramiz after England thrashed Pakistan at home. His tenure as the PCB chairman was marred with controversies and he was often slammed for further deteriorating the cricketing relations between India and Pakistan with his continuous rant against the arch-rivals. Ramiz's criticism of Indian cricket increased ever since the BCCI made it official that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and will shift the event to a neutral venue. To this, Ramiz had revealed that Pakistan also won't travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup if India boycott&nbsp;the Asia Cup in Pakistan.

The 60-year-old Ramiz has now opened up on why he was pained by India so much during his stint as the PCB chief.&nbsp;"I have got great regard for Indian cricket fans. I have enjoyed my stay in India over the years. Cricket breaks boundaries. I have received a lot of love from India as a commentator and as a cricketer. India thought Asia Cup cannot happen in Pakistan. India withdrew from Asia Cup without any discussion which was painful. I took a strong stance on this issue as a chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board," the former skipper said on his YouTube channel.

Earlier, Ramiz had made a big claim after BCCI's take on next year's Asia Cup. "If Pakistan doesn't take part in the World Cup scheduled in India next year, who will watch it? We have a clear stand: If the Indian team comes here then we will go for the World Cup. If they don't come then they can play the World Cup without us," Raja told Urdu News in November.&nbsp;

Thus, it remains to be seen what the future will look like for two mega events set to be held next year; i.e. the 2023 Asia Cup and ODI WC. However, Ramiz's rant against India didn't help the cause and even led to his sacking. He has now been replaced by Najam Sethi.

To this, Ramiz had revealed that Pakistan also won't travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup if India boycott the Asia Cup in Pakistan. The 60-year-old Ramiz has now opened up on why he was pained by India so much during his stint as the PCB chief. "I have got great regard for Indian cricket fans. Also read: WATCH! Spider cam accidentally hits SA pacer Anrich Nortje on Day 2 of Boxing Day Test at the MCG Earlier, Ramiz had made a big claim after BCCI's take on next year's Asia Cup. "If Pakistan doesn't take part in the World Cup scheduled in India next year, who will watch it? We have a clear stand: If the Indian team comes here then we will go for the World Cup. If they don't come then they can play the World Cup without us," Raja told Urdu News in November. Thus, it remains to be seen what the future will look like for two mega events set to be held next year; i.e. the 2023 Asia Cup and ODI WC. However, Ramiz's rant against India didn't help the cause and even led to his sacking. He has now been replaced by Najam Sethi.

Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi is appointed as the new interim head of men's national selection committee by the PCB for the upcoming New Zealand series. After Mohammad Wasim-led panel was sacked&nbsp;following the shocking clean-sweep loss to England in Tests at home, Pakistan Cricket Board handed the responsibility to Afridi and his three-member team for one series for now.

While Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum are the other members in the panel, Haroon Rashid -&nbsp;who is the member of the Management Committee, will serve as the convener. Against the Kiwis, Pakistan will play two Tests (part of the WTC cycle) and three ODIs (part of World Cup Super League), starting in Karachi on December 26th.

Najam Sethi, who also got appointed as the new chairman of PCB following England series, replacing Ramiz Raja, threw his trust behind Afridi-led panel for making bold calls. He said, "I welcome the interim Men's National Selection Committee and have no doubts that despite limited time, they will make brave and bold decisions that will help us produce a strong and competitive side in the series against New Zealand."

"I remain confident that through his insight and knowledge of the game, he will help Pakistan select the best and most deserving players, and contribute in the side's success in the upcoming series," the new PCB chairman said.

Afridi, who had led Pakistan in the past across formats knows what it takes to win games and showcase authority. Upon getting this chance, the ex-captain thanked the PCB management and urged everyone working alongside him and on the project to have one aim in mind - help Pakistan cricket revive and win matches.

In the aftermath of Pakistan's home Test series loss versus England, Ramiz Raja has been sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief. There were reports of the former Pakistan captain set to be removed from the top post. On Wednesday (December 21), it is believed that Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif&nbsp;gave his nod to the appointment of Najam Sethi as the new PCB chairman. It is to be noted that Ramiz had secured the post in September 2021.

Raja, who was nominated directly for the post on August 27, 2021 by the then Pakistan's PM Imran Khan, is only the fourth Test cricketer to don the chairman's hat after Ijaz Butt, Javed Burki and Abdul Hafeez Kardar. It was Raja's second stint as the PCB chief, having held the post earlier&nbsp;from 2003 to 2004. Talking about Ramiz's second tenure, it was full of ups and downs. During his tenure, Pakistan achieved a glorious high of finally managing to beat arch-rivals India in the 2021 T20 World Cup, in the UAE. Further, the senior men's team entered the semi-finals of the last year's T20 WC, ended as runners-up in the Asia Cup 2022 and recently-held T20 WC in Australia. However, the team saw a huge dip by losing the home Tests and only T20I versus Australia, early this year, before being whitewashed for the first time in whites on their home soil in the just-concluded England Tests. In addition, they lost the seven-match T20I series versus the Three Lions ahead of this yea's&nbsp;T20 WC.&nbsp;

Najam Sethi, on the other hand, has already served as the PCB chief before. Ramiz Raja sacked as PCB chief after Pakistan's home Tests vs England, replacement named: Reports

Pakistan, under Babar Azam, reached the T20 World Cup 2022 final but lost to eventual winners England at the MCG, Melbourne last month. Their campaign was a topsy-turvy affair as the Men in Green lost their opening two games only to win four in a row and make the final. It was a young squad which impressed many, however, there was a lot of talk regarding the squad which didn't have veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik.&nbsp;

Malik was part of the 2021 T20 World Cup campaign, in the UAE, and did come up with some valuable contributions. However, the 40-year-old last played for the Men in Green during the Bangladesh T20Is, in Mirpur, and has been out of favour since then. After his T20 WC omission, he had shared a cryptic tweet saying, "When will we come out from friendship, liking &amp; disliking culture. Allah always helps the honest."&nbsp;

A month after the T20 WC final, Malik has opened up on his omission and credited skipper Babar Azam foer being vocal about his non-selection. He said on Cricket Pakistan, "Mujhe nahi pata inside news kya hai, lekin Babar ne mujhe Asia Cup me bola tha ki World Cup me ye hi team jaayegi. Uski side se sab communicate hota raha, vo mere se achhe terms pe hai. Main usko apna chhota bhai samajhta hu, uski grooming ya help out karne me, ya jab bhi usko discuss karni hai cheezein, main hamesha se vahan hu aur rahunga. (I don't know what's the inside news, but Babar Azam informed me during the 2022 Asia Cup that the same team will be part of the upcoming T20 WC in Australia. He was in constant communication and remains&nbsp;on good terms with me. I consider him my younger brother. I'm always ready to help him out whenever needed)."

Further, the former Pakistan captain Malik asserted that he does not hold a grudge against Babar and only wants him to grow as a player. “Main aisa nahi hu ki agar main kisi vajah se team me nahi aaya, toh main naaraz ho jau ya muh bana lu. Main aisa bilkul nahi hu. Main karunga bhi nahi aisa. Meri duaa hai uske saath, main chahta hu vo grow kare aur Pakistan team ko, aur uski performances ko top of the table rakhe. (I don't hold a grudge against Babar. I'm certainly not like that. I want him to grow and help Pakistan be on top),” he added.

At present, the Babar-led Pakistan line-up is involved in the second and penultimate Test versus England in Multan. The home side lost the Rawalpindi Test by 74 runs in what was a high-scoring affair. Pakistan will hope to level the series and go on to win it with ICC World Test Championship final ticket up for grabs.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan lost the three-match Test series opener versus England in Rawalpindi on Monday (December 05). From the word go, England impressed one and all with their all-out approach and were rewarded with a stunning 74-run win in the fag end of the final day. Opting to bat first, Ben Stokes &amp; Co. posted 657 all-out in 101 overs and gained a 78-run lead after Pakistan were dismissed for 579 in their first essay.

In their second innings, England slammed 264/7 in 35.5 overs to set up a challenging 343-run target for the home side. In reply, Pakistan were 259 for 5 but soon reduced to 268 all-out to lose by 74 runs. After the match, ex-Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has slammed Babar Azam and Ramiz Raja-led PCB.

On his Youtube channel, Kaneria said, "Abhi hamari management ake baat karegi, Babar Azam baat karenge, PCB k head baat karenge 'acchi cricket kheli England ne, hume unse seekhna chaie. Toh seekho na. Kab seekhoge? Time Guzar jayega. (Now our management will come out and talk, Babar Azam and the PCB chief Ramiz Raja will say 'England played well and we should learn from them'. When will you learn? It's already too late)."

Further, Kaneria opined, "They might blame Shaheen Afridi’s absence for the loss. If he’s not available, then&nbsp;dusre achar bechne aaye thhe? (Did&nbsp;other bowlers&nbsp;come to sell pickles?) Where are the planning and strategy, where is the reverse swing?"

"We only talk about the revival of international cricket in Pakistan.&nbsp;Pura din wahi manjan chal raha hota hai&nbsp;(The same discussion continues throughout the course of the&nbsp;day). Pakistan were clueless. Babar Azam should learn from Ben Stokes’ captaincy. Coaches around the world should also learn from Brendon McCullum. Their team doesn’t fear loss, but ours does."

Many have slammed Ramiz-led PCB for Rawalpindi's nature of the surface. Despite England declaring with 343 to get for Pakistan, the home side still had a realistic chance to win the series opener with four sessions to play. However, there were plenty of soft dismissals which led to Pakistan's defeat.&nbsp;

Pakistan great Wasim Akram has made a big revelation on his former captain Saleem Malik. Rift between Malik and Akram surfaced several times during their playing days and now Akram has made some shocking revelations in his&nbsp;biography "'Sultan: A Memoir". The former speedster, who accounted for as many as 916 international wickets, has revealed that his equation with Malik was poor, to say the least, and the senior player took advantage of Akram's junior status.&nbsp;

In his book, the former Pakistan captain Akram said, "He would take advantage of my junior status. He was negative, selfish and treated me like a servant. He demanded I massage him; he ordered me to clean his clothes and boots. I was angry when some of the younger team members in Ramiz, Tahir, Mohsin, Shoaib Mohammad invited me to nightclubs." He demanded massage; ordered me to clean his clothes & boots: Akram's glaring revelation on Saleem Malik

In what comes as a shocking development, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has&nbsp;asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to probe “match-fixing allegations” with regard to the home Test series against Babar Azam-led Pakistan that was held in July. This has come forward only&nbsp;two weeks after the opposition member of the Sri Lankan parliament Nalin Bandara had made such an&nbsp;allegation&nbsp;for the home series that ended in a 1-1 stalemate. The match under the scanner is the series opener, where Pakistan rode on opener&nbsp;Abdullah Shafique's 160 to chase down 342 with four wickets in hand.

A statement from SCL said, "The executive committee of SLC decided today to invite Mr Alex Marshall, the General Manager of the ICC anti corruption unit to Sri Lanka to investigate recent allegations of match fixing made by a parliamentarian regarding the recently concluded Pakistan tour."

It further added, “Sri Lanka Cricket, as a full member of the ICC and mandated to uphold the integrity of the game at both the national and international level, believes that it is the correct course of action to take in light of the recent allegations made by the aforementioned parliamentarian, which have caused immense reputational damage to Sri Lanka Cricket and its stakeholders."

The Pakistan-Sri Lanka series took place amid the economical crisis in the Island nation, which involved months of political unrest, power and fuel shortage across the nation. Babar &amp; Co. had won the two-match Test series opener, in Galle, whereas Dimuth Karunaratne-led Lankan side levelled the series with a whopping 246-run win in the second and final Test, which was also shifted from Colombo to Galle.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As per a report in Cricbuzz, the ICC would not comment on the anti-corruption matters but it will send an Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) official to carry out the investigation.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s chief Ramiz Raja has issued an outright warning to BCCI. The former World Cup winner, on a recent chat on Urdu News, said if the BCCI won’t allow its players to travel to Pakistan next year for the Asia Cup then Pakistan will also not travel to India for the 50-over World Cup in 2023.

Since the time the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) granted Pakistan the rights to host the 2023 Asia Cup, there have been numerous speculations going around in regard to India opting to not travel to Pakistan for security reasons. However, as of now neither the board nor anyone closely associated with the board has commented on the matter.

But just going by the speculations that the event will not go ahead in Pakistan as planned, the PCB chief commented on the matter. He rather issued a warning to BCCI claiming Pakistan will stick to its stance of boycotting the 50-over World Cup in India next year if what he or the board fear happens.

Ramiz Raja even said if Pakistan doesn’t travel to India for the 50-over World Cup, who will watch the mega tournament?

“If Pakistan doesn't take part in the World Cup scheduled in India next year, who will watch it? We have a clear stand: If the Indian team comes here then we will go for the World Cup. If they don't come then they can play the World Cup without us," Raja has told Urdu News.

The board chief further said the PCB will continue to adopt an aggressive approach, adding Pakistan’s improved performance recently is speaking for them now.

"We will adopt an aggressive approach. Our team is showing performance. I've always said we need to improve the economy of Pakistan cricket, and that can only happen when we perform well. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, we beat India. We beat India in the T20 Asia Cup. In one year, the Pakistan cricket team defeated a billion-dollar economy team twice."

Meanwhile, Pakistan this year has hosted Australia for a full tour while teams like West Indies and England travelled to the Asian country for their respective tours as well. New Zealand is also in line to return to Pakistan for the 2 Tests and 3 ODIs, starting December 26th.

"In Australia, England, West Indies and India, when they talk about the World XI, when they talk about the best bowler in the world, my name pops up but in Pakistan, this generation, this social media generation, they are the one who come down, every comment they send, they say, 'oh, he is a match fixer', not knowing what it was," said Akram. "I have passed that stage in my life where I have to worry about people," he stated asserted.

Sri Lanka's 2009 tour of Pakistan turned Pakistan cricket upside down. During the tour, terrorist attack on SL cricket team's bus left the cricketing fraternity concerned. Post this incident, teams refused to travel to Pakistan and the national team had to play their home games in the UAE.

After the terror incident rocked Pakistan cricket, they had to deal with a lot. Former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi recently recalled the struggles faced by Pakistan cricket. "Our grounds were turned into wedding halls. We wanted to play on our grounds. It was a difficult period for Pakistan cricket, we were missing our crowd. The people who have worked to make this happen, have put in a lot of effort. The board, the government. They played an important role," Afridi said on Pakistani news channel Samaa TV.

<section>
Afridi further revealed how he used to try to convince players from other countries to come and play in Pakistan while taking part in leagues or country cricket. "We used to convince cricketers outside when we used to go and play in other leagues, county cricket, that through their help we'll be able to bring cricket back in our country. When cricket returned, a good message was sent from Pakistan, that we are sports loving nation and that we want to watch and play cricket on our ground here," the veteran&nbsp;added.

The situation has changed for the good for Pakistan cricket in recent times. In the last five years, several teams such as Australia, West Indies, Sri Lanka, South Africa and England have toured Pakistan. Babar Azam-led Pakistan lost to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 final on November 13 at the iconic MCG, Melbourne. Being asked to bat first, the 2009 winners only managed a paltry 137 for 8 with Sam Curran (3 for 12), Adil Rashid and Chris Jodran shining with the ball for Jos Buttler &amp; Co. In reply, Pakistan pacers tested the English batting line-up but Ben Stokes' 49-ball 52 not out took the 2010 winners past the finish line as they won their second T20 WC title.&nbsp;

After the defeat, many former cricketers have praised Babar &amp; Co. for reaching the final whereas some have also criticised them for failing to win the finale. Amid all this, Pakistan great Javed Miandad shared his take on the presence of foreign players in the dressing room and stated that it leads to uncertainty over the future of certain players; leading&nbsp;to match-fixing incidents. It is to be noted that Matthew Hayden served as the team mentor whereas Shaun Tait was roped in as the bowling coach.&nbsp;

Dwelling&nbsp;on this, Miandad said, "Laao na inko, inse ham log question karenge. Poochein toh sahi ham bhi, batao cricket ke baare me. (Get&nbsp;them to the studio, we will also ask them questions. We are eager&nbsp;to know what they know about cricket)."

'Fixing happened because of...': Javed Miandad makes glaring remark after Pakistan's T20 WC final loss

Kamran Akmal has landed himself in huge trouble. The veteran keeper-batter's recent remarks on Babar Azam-led Pakistan, following their T20 World Cup 2022 final loss to England, has not been received well as he has been given a legal notice by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja.&nbsp;It is to be noted that it isn't still&nbsp;clear as to&nbsp;which comment of Akmal has hurt the former Pakistan captain&nbsp;Raja but the board's chairman&nbsp;has taken a strict action and issued a warning to other former cricketers too.&nbsp;

"I don't know exactly what charges they have made against Kamran but apparently the legal notice has been sent because the chairman feels Kamran made defamatory, false and offensive comments in the media about him," a source close to the developments told PTI.

It is reported that more such legal notices will be sent to other former players who often cross their line, on their respective Youtube channels,&nbsp;while criticising the national side's performances.&nbsp;

"Some of them clearly cross the line while criticising the team, management, board and chairman and Ramiz has made it clear he is not going to tolerate anyone running down or defaming Pakistan cricket anymore,” the source further added.

Over the years, the likes of Shoaib Akhtar, Danish Kaneria, Salman Butt, etc. remain vocal on various aspects pertaining to Pakistan cricket and do not mince their words when commenting on the team's performances. However, it seems PCB is in no mood to take all this lightly anymore and will take stern actions if any comment is deemed&nbsp;defamatory, offensive, personal, false and damaging to Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan lost the T20 World Cup 2022 final to England by five wickets. Being asked to bat first, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green only managed a paltry 137 for 8 in 20 overs with Sam Curran (3 for 12), Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan being among wickets. In reply, England were made to work hard for their runs but Ben Stokes' 49-ball 52 not out took Jos Buttler &amp; Co. past the finish line with five wickets to spare.

During the run-chase, Shaheen Afridi had started off with a bang by removing Alex Hales with a peach of an inswinger. His last two overs were worth of gold for the 2009 winners and Babar introduced him back into the attack in the 16th over, with 41 to defend off 30 balls. After beating Stokes on the first delivery, Shaheen walked off the field due to injury concerns following the catch he took to dismiss Harry Brooks.&nbsp;

Many have termed Shaheen's departure as a turning point of the match. His over was completed by part-time off-spinner Iftikhar Ahmed, who was taken to the cleaners by Stokes. After Pakistan's loss, a fan blasted Shaheen for walking off the field. Nonetheless, he was slammed by Pakistan great Wasim Akram on live tv.

After the loss, captain Babar said at the post-match presentation, "Congratulations to England, they deserve to be champions and fought well. We felt like home here, got great support at every venue. Thanks for your support. Yes, we lost the first two games but how we came in the last four games was incredible. I just told the boys to play our natural game, but we fell 20 runs short and the boys fought well with the ball. Our bowling is one of the best attacks in the world. Unfortunately Shaheen's injury put us off, but that's part of the game."

Meanwhile, Shaheen&nbsp;has been advised to take rest and it seems he will be out of action for some time. He is likely to miss the home Tests versus England.

Unfortunately Shaheen's injury put us off, but that's part of the game." Meanwhile, Shaheen has been advised to take rest and it seems he will be out of action for some time. He is likely to miss the home Tests versus England.

'I wish you were in front of me' - Wasim Akram lashes out at fan for distasteful remark on Shaheen Afridi

Pakistan beat New Zealand by seven wickets to enter the T20 World Cup 2022 final on Wednesday (November 09) at the SCG, Sydney. After losing their opening two games, including one against Zimbabwe, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green were trolled extensively and many had predicted their campaign to end in the Super 12 round itself.

While Pakistan beat the Netherlands and South Africa in their next two encounters, the Dutch's shocking win over the Proteas opened the doors for a semi-final entry for the 2009 winners. They pounced on the opportunity and beat Bangladesh in their last league stage tie, which was a must-win clash for them, to enter the semis and defeated Kane Williamson-led Black Caps convincingly.&nbsp;

Riding on Shaheen Afridi's two-fer, fifties from Babar Azam and Md Rizwan, Pakistan chased down a modest 153 in 19.1 overs, with seven wickets in hand, to enter their third T20 WC final. After their miraculous turnaround, PCB chairman and former skipper Ramiz Raja reacted on Twitter and said, "A perfect 10! Very few teams in world cricket would have risen to the occasion like Pakistan did today. Melbourne here we come again".

Post the five-wicket win over Bangladesh, Pakistan Cricket's official handle shared few dressing room videos for fans. While the videos have become an instant hit on the social media platform, former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram isn't impressed and has asked for such team talks to not be shared online.&nbsp;

"If I was Babar, I would get hold of that guy who is making a video. Sometimes, certain things are personal. I am all for social media, players interacting with their fans and everything. "There are recordings taking place all the time. Imagine if I am sitting and not knowing that someone is recording - a message that I want to give my team. Just tell him, 'Guys, relax for two days. Do it some other place but not dressing room," he further pointed out.

On Sunday (November 06), Pakistan were given a lifeline in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition as the Netherlands defeated South Africa and eliminated Temba Bavuma &amp; Co.&nbsp;from the semi-finals race. With the Proteas bowing out from the semis race and India ensuring a spot in the last four, Pakistan had a chance to enter the semis with a win over Bangladesh in their last league stage encounter.

Babar Azam-led Men in Green didn't waste the opportunity presented with SA's elimination and went on to beat Bangladesh by five wickets in an intense battle at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on Sunday afternoon. After opting to bat first, Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangla Tigers only managed a modest 127 for 8, with Shaheen Afridi returning with 4 for 22. In reply, the one-time winners were stretched a bit but eventually went past the finish line courtesy of Mohammad Haris' 18-ball 31 and Shan Masood's 14-ball 24 not out.

After this win, Pakistan will now face 2021 runners-up New Zealand in the first semi-final at the SCG, Sydney on Wednesday (November 09). After their entry into the semis, team mentor Matthew Hayden shared an inspiring speech for Babar-led Pakistan and issued a warning to other teams. There will be no one in this world, in this competition that would want to face us right now, Not One! They thought that they got rid of us. Now, they're not going to get rid of us."

Discussions are on for India-Pakistan Test in Australia: Former Aussie all-rounder makes big claim

After losing to India on the last ball of their Super 12 opener, Pakistan went down to Zimbabwe as well during the T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday (October 27) at the Perth Stadium, Perth. Opting to bat first, Craig Ervine-led Zimbabwe posted a modest 130-8, with Md Wasim Jr returning with 4 for 24, and had their back against the wall with Pakistan needing only 43 more off the last 39 balls, with seven wickets in hand.

However, Sikandar Raza (3 for 25) and Brad Evans (2 for 25) brought the African side back into the contest and led them to a famous one-run win&nbsp;on the last ball of the contest. Eventually, Pakistan managed only 129 for 8 despite needing only 3&nbsp;off the last three deliveries. There was no shortage of&nbsp;drama in a pulsating clash which left the Babar Azam-led Pakistani dressing room in disbelief and shock.
