Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has lashed out at people bursting crackers in the country after Virat Kohl-led Team India's loss against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021. India suffered their maiden defeat against Pakistan in a World Cup game as they went down by ten wickets at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (October 24).

It was a comprehensive victory for Pakistan, who chased down the target of 152 runs without losing a single wicket with the help of an unbeaten stand from openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. However, in the aftermath of Pakistan's win, reports of crackers being burst in different parts of India surfaced.

Some also took to social media to share videos of crackers being burst in different areas. Reacting to the incidents, Gambhir, who is a cricketer-turned-politician, said those celebrating Pakistan's win against India can't call themselves Indians while adding that it is absolutely unacceptable.

“It's shameful. You live in a country and are called an Indian but when another country wins or Pakistan wins, you start bursting crackers. This is absolutely unacceptable. People who have burst those crackers, cannot call themselves Indians,” Gambhir told India Today.

A section of tolls on social media has also targeted several Indian players after the team's loss against arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami and captain Virat Kohli are among the players who have been viciously abused on social media following India's ten-wicket defeat.

Condemning the attack on individuals, Gambhir said these are the same players who have won many games for the country and people should support them instead of abusing them to help spark a turnaround in the tournament.

“It is absolutely disgusting when you target an individual, whether he is the captain or someone who is from another community. Ultimately, it is a team, it is a nation. Players like Kohli and Shami have done fabulous things for the country, have won so many games for us, have made the country proud," Gambhir said.

“Targeting certain individuals in a team sport is not acceptable. In a nation like India, you win together, you lose together and that is what I want to say to every Indian. Support your players, they will definitely turn it around,” he added.

'They can't be Indians': Gautam Gambhir slams those bursting crackers after India's loss to Pakistan in T20 WC

Pakistan opened their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 edition, in the UAE, with a stunning ten-wicket win over arch-rivals India, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Sunday evening (October 24). While the Babar Azam-led Men in Green were clinical in all departments to finally break Virat Kohli & Co.'s 12-match unbeaten streak against their neighbours in World Cup history, the whole of Pakistan will now gear up to support their team as they face New Zealand in match 19 of the T20 WC 2021.

Pakistan and New Zealand would have been meeting each other for the sixth time in T20Is, in over than a month, however, they will be facing each other for the first time in the shortest format in 308 days. By now, the reason for this is well known to the whole world as Black Caps pulled out of their tour of Pakistan -- in mid-September -- just minutes before the tour-opener; causing huge financial losses to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and embarrassing the Asian giants in world cricket -- who are still fighting hard to regain hosting rights in a fully-fledged manner in international cricket.

Hence, their face-off versus New Zealand is highly awaited as Babar & Co. will be eager to settle scores versus the Kane Williamson-led Kiwis. Speaking about the 2016 edition's semi-finalists, they are coming into this encounter on the back of back-to-back defeats in their two warm-up games. Hence, NZ will have to be on their toes against a Pakistani line-up who was absolutely clinical versus India.

Match prediction for Pakistan vs New Zealand T20 WC: The two games at Sharjah, involving Sri Lanka-Bangladesh and Afghanistan-Scotland, showed batsmen will have a bigger role to play. Both teams might be tempted to bat second. It will be interesting to see if dew plays a role and makes its presence felt in the encounter. A high-scoring encounter is expected, in the range of 170-180, with Men in Green to make it two wins in a row.

Pak vs NZ, T20 World Cup 2021 prediction: Who will win today's match between Pakistan and New Zealand?

India and Pakistan played each other in what was both sides' respective tournament-opener in match 4 of the Super 12 round in the T20 World Cup 2021, in the UAE. While the Virat Kohli-led Men in Blue were coming into the game on the back of a 12-0 unbeaten streak versus their arch-rivals in World Cups (both ODIs and T20Is), the Babar Azam-led Pakistan side produced a clinical performance to outplay the Indian team in all departments and win by 10 wickets on Sunday evening (October 24).

This way, Pakistan also managed to finally break their India jinx in World Cups as the whole country is basking in the glory of their national men's cricket team. After the match, Babar & Co. were ecstatic whereas the Pakistan captain's father was teary-eyed as his son marshalled his troops brilliantly to upset India. In a video shared on Twitter, Babar's father -- Azam Siddique -- was surrounded by the Pakistani supporters in the stands as he was in happy tears, was consoled and greeted by his countrymen, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Winning the toss, Babar-led Pakistan invited India to bat first. The one-time winners India were off to a disastrous start as they lost Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul for cheap. Virat Kohli's 57 steadied the ship for India but the 32-year-old didn't get much support from others. Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav got starts as India rode on Kohli's fifty to post 151-7. Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi starred with the ball, returning with 3 for 31.

In reply, Babar and Mohammed Rizwan's unbeaten fifties (68 and 79 not out, respectively) took Pakistan to a stunning 10-wicket win over India. At the post-match presentation, Babar said, "This was the team's effort, and the early wickets were very helpful. It gave us a lot of confidence and our spinners were very good as well. We applied our plans and got the results. We, the openers, kept it simple and built a partnership and because the wicket was getting better so we just wanted to keep batting till the end, which we did. It won't get easier just because we beat India. We will take the confidence, but we're taking it one match at a time, and there's a long way to go in the tournament."

WATCH: Babar Azam delivers powerful speech as Pakistan hammer India by 10 wickets in T20 WC

Virat Kohli-led Team India endured a shambolic ten-wicket defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday (October 24). Pakistan restricted India on a low-key total of 151 runs and chased down the target with 13 balls to spare to get off to a winning start in the tournament and bring an end to their winless streak against the Men in Blue in World Cup matches.

Pakistan claimed their maiden win against India in a World Cup match in a total of 13 meetings between the two sides so far. Pakistan had lost seven out of seven games in ODI World Cup and five out of five games in T20 World Cup against India before Sunday.

Following India's loss, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt aimed a dig at Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy, stating that every kid in Pakistan plays his kind of bowling. Chakravarthy, who is playing his first T20 World Cup, has been touted by many as an X-factor for Team India.

However, he went wicket-less on Sunday as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan made a mockery of the Indian bowling attack during their side's run-chase in Dubai. Talking about the spell from Chakravarthy, Butt said every kid in Pakistan plays such bowling in street cricket.

“Varun Chakravarthy may be a mystery bowler but he was no surprise to us. Kids in Pakistan play a lot of tape ball cricket. Every kid in Pakistan plays this kind of bowling in street cricket, where bowlers do the finger tricks with the ball and try different variations,” Butt said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Chakravarthy conceded 33 runs in his four overs and failed to pick up a wicket against Pakistan. Butt compared his rise to that of former Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis while asserting that Pakistan have never had problems facing mystery spinners.

“At the start of his career, Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis also troubled a lot of teams with his mystery element. But his record against Pakistan isn’t great. After a while, Sri Lanka stopped playing him against India. We have never found any mystery in mystery bowling because we have grown up playing such kind of bowlers,” said Butt.

Ex-Pak captain aims a dig at India's Varun Chakaravarthy: Every kid in Pakistan plays this kind of bowling

Pakistan thrashed India by ten wickets in their opening clash of the T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday (October 24) to get off to a winning start in the tournament. Babar Azam & Co. scripted history by becoming the first Pakistan side to beat the Men in Blue in a World Cup match to end their 12-match unbeaten streak.

India had never lost a World Cup game against Pakistan heading into the high-octane clash in Dubai on Sunday. However, Pakistan outplayed India across all departments to register a comprehensive win. Following Pakistan's victory, former Pak pacer Shoaib Akhtar trolled veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh over his 'walkover' remark.

In the build-up to the India-Pakistan clash on Sunday, Harbhajan had said Pakistan should consider giving India a walkover as they had lost each time against the Men in Blue in World Cups. However, his statement backfired after Pakistan got the better of Kohli & Co. in Dubai.

"Haan Bhajji? Harbhajan Singh. Walkover lena hai? Nahi lena? Acha. Chalo, kya kar sakte hain yaar. Relax yaar, enjoy the day. And, bardaasht karo (Harbhajan Singh. Do you still want a walkover? No? Okay. Well, what can one do. Relax, enjoy the day. And, tolerate this)," Akhtar said in a video posted on Twitter.

(Akhtar's comments roughly translate to - "Yes, Harbhajan Singh you wanted a walkover right? Do you still want it? Let it be now, just relax and enjoy the day. Tolerate the loss.")

Pakistan produced a dominant performance with the bat and the ball to thoroughly outclass India in the high-pressure clash. The Men in Green restricted India on 151 runs before chasing down the target with 13 balls to spare. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam slammed an unbeaten 68 and combined with opener Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 79 not out to power their team to their maiden win against India in World Cup history.

Tolerate the loss.") Haanji? Virat Kohli-led India lost to Pakistan by 10 wickets in the 4th match of the Super 12 round, in the T20 World Cup 2021 edition being held in the UAE. Both sides met each other for the first time in over two years, across formats, following the 2019 ODI World Cup.

In the run-up to the marquee face-off, Kohli & Co. had a 12-0 unbeaten streak versus Pakistan in World Cup history (including both T20Is and ODIs). Young Pakistan pacer Shahnawaz Dahani in awe as he meets legend MS Dhoni ahead of IND-PAK clash - WATCH

The Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 is all set to get underway from October 23 (Saturday) with Australia set to take on South Africa in Abu Dhabi. India will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on October 24 in what is expected to be a blockbuster clash between the arch-rivals.

Ahead of the face-off between India and Pakistan, predictions have been flowing thick and fast as former cricketers and experts give their take on the game. While sharing his views on the India-Pakistan rivalry, former India captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar said he would like to see the two teams reach the final of the T20 World Cup 2021.

Gavaskar claimed even the International Cricket Council (ICC) would like to see India and Pakistan reach the final as the viewership will soar dramatically and the hype surrounding the game will be immense.

“I would like to see India in that final, and Pakistan. What else does anybody want? Even the ICC wants India and Pakistan to be in the final,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram also backed India and Pakistan to make it to the last four of the tournament. The legendary fast bowler was asked to pick his semi-finalists and he went with England, India, Pakistan and West Indies as favourites to reach the knockouts.

Want to see India and Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021 final, says Sunil Gavaskar

An India-Pakistan game is always a high-pressure contest with the expectations at an all-time high on both ends. The pressure sometimes gets the better of players and can lead to errors. In a format like T20 cricket where the margin of error is too less, any mistake can prove to be costly for a team.

Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh recently recalled the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup between India and Pakistan and revealed how he was under massive pressure after being hit for three sixes in an over by former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq during the run-chase.

Harbhajan said he felt like he was bowling a 40-ball over when Misbah was taking him to the cleaners in the game and wanted to finish his six balls quickly. The veteran spinner, who has been part of India's 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup-winning sides, said a player is on his own when he is under pressure.

“In the 2007 World Cup, when Misbah-ul-Haq hit me for three sixes, I just wanted to finish my over. It felt like I am bowling a 40-ball over for me because I was so much under pressure,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by India Today.

“What I feel is that when you are under the pump, you or on your own.

“Yes, a captain can tell you, take it easy, should this bowl this delivery, but it is you who have to deliver, and if you are under tremendous pressure, you can’t execute it,” the veteran spinner added.

Asked to chase 158 runs in the 2007 T20 World Cup final, Pakistan were left reeling at 76/5 when Misbah played a brilliant knock of 43 runs to keep them in the game. However, he couldn't get them over the line and was dismissed in the final over by Joginder Sharma as India registered a thrilling win by 5 runs.

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the upcoming match of the T20 World Cup 2021, in the UAE, which will be the tournament-opener for both sides in the main draw of the showpiece event. Both sides last met in the 2019 ODI World Cup, where Virat Kohli-led India thrashed Pakistan by 89 runs (DLS method).

In addition, India beat Pakistan by 6 wickets in what was the last face-off between both sides in the shortest format, during the 2016 edition of T20 WC. Ahead of the marquee encounter, many experts and former cricketers have labelled India as the favourites due to their unbeaten streak versus the Men in Green in World Cups (both ODIs and T20Is). For the unversed, India lead Pakistan 7-0 in the 50-over WC whereas they have a 5-0 head-to-head record versus Babar Azam & Co. in the T20 WC.

However, Babar Azam has played down India's superior record and believes history will be created with Pakistan beating India in the upcoming face-off, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (October 24).

'Past is history': Babar Azam on India's unbeaten record against Pakistan in World Cups

India and Pakistan might not have played a bilateral series between them for several years ow but it remains one of the most talked-about rivalries in world cricket. The two teams will resume their rivalry when they lock horns in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24.

Babar Azam, who has often earned comparisons with Indian captain Virat Kohli for his batting exploits and consistency with the willow, will be leading Pakistan for the first time against Kohli-led India. Babar has been Pakistan's best batter across formats for several years now and was appointed as the captain across all three formats last year.

Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram gave his take on the comparisons made between Babar and Kohli and said it was unfair to compare the Pakistan star batter with the Indian skipper. Akram said Babar is a quick learner, who will need time to reach Kohli's level as the Indian captain has already proved his credentials in all three formats by scoring heaps of runs bit at home and away from home.

"Virat Kohli is Virat Kohli. He has dominated world cricket, scored all those runs over these years. He has led India. Babar Azam has started captaining Pakistan only now. But as far his technique is concerned, is very good to watch and very consistent in all formats," Akram was quoted as saying by India Today.

"He is learning his captaincy, he is a quick learner. So, it's unfair to compare those two now. But Babar is definitely heading towards the position where Virat Kohli is now," he added.

Kohli remains the only batter in the world averaging over fifty in all three formats while Babar, who has 3985 runs in 83 matches, averages 56.92 in ODIs. However, in Tests and T20Is, Babar averages 42.94 and 46.89 respectively. He has so far managed to amass only 2362 runs in 35 Tests compared to Kohli's 7765 runs in 96 Test matches.

In T20Is as well, Kohli remains the leading run-getter with 3159 runs in 90 matches while Babar has 2204 runs in 61 matches. It remains to be seen who will come out on top when the two go up against each other for the first time as the captains of their respective sides.

Unfair to compare, but Babar Azam is heading towards where Virat Kohli is right now: Wasim Akram

There's never a dull moment in Pakistan cricket. There's always something happening at all times, which catches the attention of cricket lovers all across the world. Ahead of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan lost out on a chance to host New Zealand and England (i.e. the Three Lions' men's and women's teams) as the Kiwis abandoned their tour of Pakistan at the last moment, citing security concerns, whereas England followed suit.

Thus, it led to a huge disappointment for the Pakistan cricket lovers and the PCB. The New Zealand team's abandonment and England's withdrawal to tour Pakistan came at a time when the Asian side had started hosting international games at regular intervals in their own country. In 2009, Pakistan had faced a huge crisis when the Lahore terror attack, on Sri Lankan cricket team, led to them not being able to host international games for six years.

While the situation eased out reasonably, the NZ-England teams' withdrawals have again put Pakistan on the back foot. Nonetheless, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green will enter the T20 World Cup with an aim to vent out their frustration in the ICC event and return home with the title, replicating the Younis Khan-led side when they won the T20 WC following the terror attack, at Lahore, which resulted in Pakistan cricket's humiliation.

Ahead of Pakistan's T20 WC opener, versus India on October 24 at Dubai, former all-rounder and skipper Shahid Afridi has made a bold claim on Babar & Co.

T20 WC: Shahid Afridi issues stern warning, says 'Pakistan can surprise anyone, rule them out at own peril'

The T20 World Cup 2021 edition has commenced in the UAE. After a year-long delay, the marquee event has kicked off in the UAE, which was earlier supposed to be held in Australia in late 2020 before Covid-19 pandemic led to its postponement.

The multi-nation tournament has started with the qualifying round and warm-up encounters being held simultaneously. However, all eyes are on the India-Pakistan game as the arch-rivals will face each other in their respective tournament-openers, on October 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Ahead of the marquee face-off, former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has opined on the mouth-watering clash and stated who has an advantage going into the contest.

But realistically speaking, India does have an advantage going into this game as their players have been participating in the IPL which was played in the same venues in the UAE. So apart from playing highly competitive cricket, they also will have a good understanding of the playing conditions in the UAE."

"But let us not forget that Pakistani players have also taken part in some intense Twenty20 cricket in the recently concluded National T20 Cup which was moved due to the cancellation of the New Zealand tour. Having said that, we all know that any India-Pakistan match is generally won by the side that is most able to absorb the pressure and in a format like Twenty20, it can easily come down to just one over where a batsman or bowler can totally change the complexion of the game," he added.

However, international cricket returned to Pakistan for the first time since 2009 when Zimbabwe toured the country in 2015. The decision was taken in the ACC meeting in Dubai on Thursday (October 15) where PCB was represented by chairman Raja. While the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup will be played in ODI format, the 2022 edition will be a T20 event to be hosted by Sri Lanka next year.

The 2023 Asia Cup will be the 16th edition of the tournament. The 15th edition was originally scheduled to be played last year but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pakistan had the hosting rights for the 15th edition, however, BCCI had expressed its concerns over sending the Indian team to the country and had requested the PCB to shift the tournament to UAE.

T20 World Cup: Iconic ad on Indo-Pak rivalry returns as countdown begins for mouth-watering face-off

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan once again expressed his disappointment over New Zealand and England's decision to pull out of their respective tours of Pakistan. New Zealand were in Pakistan for a limited-overs series but decided to cancel the series ahead of the first ODI between the two sides in Rawalpindi. England, on the other hand, refused to send their teams for the tour.

While expressing his disappointment over England's decision to snub their tour of Pakistan, the Pakistan Prime Minister said money has become a big player now and plays a major role in influencing the decisions of the cricket boards around the world.

Khan insisted that Indian controls world cricket now as the International Cricket Council (ICC) receives the majority of its funding from the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Indian markets. The Pakistan PM said no country can dare to pull out of their commitments against India, unlike Pakistan.

“England let itself down. I think that there is still this feeling in England that they do a great favour to play with countries like Pakistan. One of the reasons is that, obviously, the money," Khan was quoted as saying in an interview with the Middle East Eye.

“Money is a big player now. For the players, as well as for the cricket boards. The money lies in India, so basically, India controls world cricket now. I mean, they do, whatever they say goes. No one would dare do that to India because they know that the sums involved, India can sort of produce much more money,” he added.

New Zealand had pulled out of their tour of Pakitsan on the day of the first ODI against the hosts in Rawalpindi after receiving a 'security threat alert'. Days after New Zealand's decision, the England Cricket Board (ECB) also announced that the teams will not travel to Pakistan due to "increasing concerns about travelling to the region".

Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s chief Ramiz Raja had stated that cricket in the country can collapse if the Indian government wants. Raja had explained how PCB receives 50 per cent of its budget from ICC, which is dependent on the BCCI for funding.

"The ICC is a politicised body divided between the Asian and Western blocs and 90 per cent of its revenues are generated from India. It is frightening," the PCB chief had said.

"In a way, India's business houses are running Pakistan cricket and if tomorrow the Indian PM decides he will not allow any funding to Pakistan, this cricket board can collapse," he added.

Sarfaraz will be replacing Azam Khan in the main squad while Haider has been included in the place of Mohammad Hasnain. Fakhar, who was earlier in the reserves group, will be replacing Khushdil Shah in the main squad while the latter will be shifting to the reserves.

PCB also informed in a press release that the final decision on the inclusion of aggressive batsman Shoaib Maqsood will be made after medical advice. Maqsood is dealing with a back issue and had recently undergone MRI scans for the same during the National T20 Cup tournament in Pakistan.

Virat Kohli has been regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of the modern-era. While the 32-year-old isn't at his usual best with the bat across formats, he remains Team India's Mr. Dependable in all forms of the game and his immaculate record speaks volumes of his abilities.

Over the years, Kohli has often been compared with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and many believe Kohli is on course to equal, or surpass, Tendulkar's record of 100 international tons. Nonetheless, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif -- whose career ended prematurely after being involved in the spot-fixing saga in 2010 -- feels Kohli is nowhere 'close to Tendulkar' and managed to draw parallels between SRT and Pakistan's sensation Babar Azam

His bat movement is fluent like Sachin. People say Kohli is better than Tendulkar. I say no. Virat does not even come close to Sachin. This is my opinion."

Pakistan have produced many talented cricketers, who have gone onto make a huge mark in the cricketing fraternity. Wasim Akram, former Pakistan captain and all-rounder, is one such cricketer who went onto win many games for the Men in Green and also lead them in the 1999 ODI World Cup final.

Despite being such a big name in world cricket and a respected figure in Pakistan cricket, the former all-rounder and 'Sultan of Swing' has never coached the national side after hanging his boots. Recently, Akram opened up on why he isn't keen on taking up the coaching role in Pakistan Cricket.

"When you become the coach, you need to give at least 200 to 250 days a year to the team and that's a lot of work. I don't think I can manage so much work away from Pakistan, from my family. And as it is, I spend time with most of the players in the PSL, they all have my number and they keep asking for advice," Akram said in the interview to Cricket Pakistan.

"I am not a fool. I keep on hearing and seeing on social media how people misbehave with their coaches and seniors. The coach isn't the one playing. The players are the one playing. The coach can only help with the planning. So, if the team loses, I don't think the coach is as responsible or accountable as we hold him as a nation. So, I'm afraid of that as well, because I can't tolerate anyone misbehaving with me. And we are becoming like that. I love the people, their enthusiasm and passion for the game, but not the misbehavior that is shown on social media. It shows what we are. I have never seen this happen in other countries." Akram added.

In the past, many big names in Pakistan cricket have gone onto serve as the head coach of the national cricket team, for instance Javed Miandad, Misbah-ul-Haq, etc. However, the pressure of leading the side to the No. 1 ranking across formats and helping them win ICC trophies remains immense in the cricket-loving country like Pakistan. Their ardent cricket fans can get too critical at times and judge every performance; putting the head coach's job at stake. In addition, social media trolling has nowadays become common, where many fans slam cricketers and coaches overlooking their overall stature and getting too harsh at times. Hence, Akram is willing to stay away from coaching the Men in Green. He is happy taking up coaching roles in franchise leagues and being available for players on calls.

India and England most balanced: Former Pakistan captain names favourites for T20 World Cup 2021

India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries in the history of cricket. An encounter between the two arch-rivals is always a blockbuster affair with millions cheering for the two sides. However, the two teams have not played any bilateral cricket for over eight years now due to political tensions between the two nations.

India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series against each other in 2013 and have since met only at major ICC events. The two teams last played a bilateral series in January 2013 when Pakistan toured India for a limited-overs series consisting of two T20Is and three ODIs.

Despite efforts, the two cricket boards have not agreed to play bilateral cricket against each other so far which has cost Pakistan millions of dollars, feels former England captain Michael Atherton. Pakistan have also had to play the majority of their home matches in the UAE post the attack on the Sri Lankan team's bus in Lahore in 2009.

"Pakistan's inability to play India in bilateral events has cost them hundreds of millions of dollars in the past decade, or how being in exile in the UAE for nearly a decade cost significant amounts of financial and psychological capital," Atherton wrote in his column for The Times.

Artherton further pointed out how Pakistan have been the most frequent travellers by a distance in the COVID-19 era where most teams have refrained from playing a lot of away matches. Pakistan have toured England, Australia, and West Indies among others to play series in bio-bubbles amidst COVID-19.

"When England have pulled out of tours to South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan, and when Australia have played no Test matches away from home since the pandemic began, Pakistan have travelled all over the world (and, remember, there are no touring fees paid to the visitors these days). Pakistan have played the most number of matches away from home since Covid struck, by some distance," Atherton wrote.

Recently, New Zealand abandoned their tour of Pakistan while England also confirmed that won't be sending their teams to the country. The decisions from the two boards came as a major jolt to PCB, which is staring at huge losses for being unable to host the two series at home.

Artherton further pointed out how Pakistan have been the most frequent travellers by a distance in the COVID-19 era where most teams have refrained from playing a lot of away matches. Pakistan have toured England, Australia, and West Indies among others to play series in bio-bubbles amidst COVID-19.

Pakistan's inability to play bilateral cricket against India has cost them millions of dollars: Former England captain

Pakistan's Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid on Monday claimed the country's government is in contact with Interpol over the threatening emails received by the New Zealand cricket team which led to the cancellation of the Black Caps' tour of Pakistan. The New Zealand cricket team was in Pakistan to play a limited-overs series earlier this month but had to abandon their tour after receiving a security threat.

Pakistan minister Rashid has claimed New Zealand cricket team had recieved a total of 12 emails which will be probed by Interpol. Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Rashid said Interpol will also probe the "India-Singapore links" of the emails, as per a report in Pakistan daily The Express Tribune. Rashid said "There will be good news soon," while responding to a question from one of the reporters on Interpol's investigation in the matter.

New Zealand cricket team had abandoned their entire tour of Pakistan, hours ahead of the start of the first ODI between the two sides in Rawalpindi earlier this month. The Kiwis travelled to UAE from Pakistan before returning home. In what was a ripple effect of New Zealand's decision to not play in Pakistan, the England Cricket Board also confirmed that they will be not going ahead with England's upcoming tour of Pakistan ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021.

Earlier, Rashid had claimed the emails received by the New Zealand team were sent from an associated device in India using a VPN. The Pakistan minister alleged Singapore's location was used while sending the emails from India."The device RMX 1971 (Realme) used 13 email IDs and except for Hamza Afridi, the 12 other email IDs had Indian/Hindi names," Rashid had said in a press conference earlier.

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja has been left utterly disappointed by England and New Zealand's decision to pull out of their respective tours and is reportedly considering a legal route against the two boards ahead of the next executive ICC meeting.

Pakistan cricket team will now return to action in the upcoming T20 World Cup. They will lock horns with arch-rivals India in their opening game of the showpiece event on October 24.

Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has urged Pakistan fans to support their national cricket team in the current time of crisis after England and New Zealand pulled out of their respective tours of the county. While New Zealand were in Pakistan and abandoned the series ahead of the first ODI earlier this month, England announced they will not be sending their men's and women's teams to the country.

The decision from New Zealand and England cricket board has left the Pakistan cricket fraternity in shock and disarray with several experts and former cricketers criticising the decisions. Akram has now come out and sent a message to the fans, asking them to back Babar Azam & Co. as they gear up for the T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE starting next month.

"I know you're all very disappointed with New Zealand and England when they cancelled their tours. Especially New Zealand, for cancelling it at the last moment. I am equally disappointed, equally down and equally sad. But life has to go on. Like our chairman Ramiz Raja said, support Pakistan. The team they have picked for the World Cup, let's support them for once," Akram said in a video shared by Cricket Pakistan.

Akram also sent a message to Babar & Co. urging the Pakistan team to do well at the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE. The legendary pacer feels if Pakistan do well in the World Cup, a number of teams will be running after them. Having played a significant amount of cricket in the UAE, which is their second home, Pakistan will be one of the favourites at the T20 World Cup this year.

"We will criticize them later if the need arises and will figure out solutions too. But right now, we all need to come together as a unit and support our team. If teams don't want to come, let them not. But if our side performs well, teams all around the world will run behind Pakistan. So all the best, Pakistan team. We are all behind you," said Akram.

Khawaja believes bilateral cricket between the two nations is the biggest thing world cricket is missing at present as he batted for the resumption of cricket between India and Pakistan.

India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries on the cricket pitch but the arch-rivals now meet only in major ICC competitions as bilateral cricket between the two countries has been stalled due to political tensions. India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series in 2013 and have since met only in ICC events.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Khawaja fondly spoke about his childhood days when he used to watch India and Pakistan play against each other with his parents and called for the ties to resume.

“The thing I miss most about international cricket and I know growing up watching my parents watch with, my dad watching cricket, it’s the India vs Pakistan matches. I absolutely hate the fact that it doesn’t happen anymore. I think it’s the biggest thing that cricket is missing and it’ll be such an amazing thing if we can get those two countries to play again,” Khawaja said on his YouTube channel.

Khawaja, a Pakistan-born Aussie cricketer, revealed he even discussed the matter with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket Australia. The left-hand batsman, who has played 44 Tests and 40 ODIs for Australia, believes cricket can bring the two nations together.
