The legendary Sir Viv Richards has hailed Babar Azam as an inspiration to young cricketers around the globe. Babar has witnessed a remarkable rise in international cricket over the last few years as he has gone on to establish his credentials as one of the best batters in the world across all formats of the game. He has also proven to be a great leader since taking over as Pakistan's captain across formats.

Babar was lauded for his terrific leadership qualities after leading Pakistan to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. Over the years Babar has earned the praise from several greats of the game and continues to be one of the most consistent performers for the Men in Green across all formats.

Richards, who has observed Babar's growth from close quarters having been involved in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), recently compared him to legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. Ali, who is regarded as the greatest boxer of all time, was known for his powerful presence both on and off the ring. Richards believes Babar has similar qualities and is a class act on the cricket field.

"Babar reminds me of Muhammad Ali; he is that classy sort of a boxer, he doesn't want to knock you out too quickly. But you know when the match is over, you will be bruised because Babar never stops jabbing you. He's a class act," Richards, one of the greatest batters of all time, was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

"Any young players looking to take inspiration from players, take some from Babar because he doesn't try and hit every ball for six. Instead, he is all about finding gaps. Babar is one of the best in achieving this," he added.

Pakistan had lost against India in every single World Cup meeting before their clash in the T20 World Cup last year. However, Babar brought an end to the winless streak as he led his side to a dominant ten-wicket win against India in Dubai.

T20s remain the flavour of the cricketing season as a lot of action in the shortest format is taking place across the globe. Among franchise cricket, Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 edition is gaining a lot of eyeballs.

The Babar Azam-led Karachi Kings are enduring one of their worst-ever seasons in the ongoing edition. At present, they have lost their first eight matches and are lying at the bottom in the points table. During Babar & Co.'s previous clash, versus the Multan Sultans, an animated discussion between Captain Babar and head coach Wasim Akram made the headlines during the last over of the match with the Sultans needing 7 off the five balls. The video of the same also went viral in no time.

After the video has made a lot of noise on social media platform Twitter, the former Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram reacted to the hullabaloo. Here's what he wrote:

"Hello ! Surprised to see reactions on my talking to Babar at the boundary last night. What I was saying was ‘why our bowlers are not bowling yorkers or slower ones offside off’.nothing else . Babar is a wonderful boy and has tried his best. And what he wants for dinner," Akram said in his tweet.

“It is most likely that he gave some instructions to the bowler and they didn't bowl accordingly. So he got up in anger and talked about it. Obviously, he can only say this to the captain, he can't shout towards the bowler from the dugout. So I don't know what people expect," he added.

The Karachi Kings will now lock horns with Lahore Qalandars in a bid to open their account after losing their first eight games. They face the Lahore franchise on Friday evening (February 18) at Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore.

PSL 2022: Wasim Akram reacts as video of his animated chat with Babar Azam goes viral

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction saw the ten teams splash the cash on the best of players from across the globe. The ten teams spent around Rs 552 crore (INR 5.52 billion) in acquiring the services of 204 players at the two-day long mega auction. Some of the top players from India and overseas managed to earn huge deals with their respective franchises.

Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan turned out to be the costliest pick at the IPL 2022 mega auction as he was roped in by Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore (INR 152.5 million). The likes of Deepak Chahar (Rs 14 crore), Shreyas Iyer (Rs 12.25 crore) and Liam Livingstone (Rs 11.50 crore) were the top picks at the auction.

After witnessing the players bag stunning deals at the IPL auction, a Pakistani journalist ended up making a tall claim on Twitter. The journalist claimed that Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi would have earned a deal of Rs 200 crore (INR 2 billion) had he been part of the IPL mega auction this year.

While top players from across the globe are part of the IPL mega auction, the Pakistani players are not included due to the suspended cricketing ties between the two nations. India have not played bilateral cricket with Pakistan since 2013 and Pakistani cricketers have not been part of the IPL since the first edition of the tournament in 2008.

T20 World Cup 2022: Tickets for India-Pakistan clash, at the MCG, SOLD OUT in a flash

Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain has been banned from bowling and withdrawn from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after his bowling action was found to be illegal, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Friday.

Hasnain was first reported during his Big Bash League stint with the Sydney Thunder last month and is set to miss Pakistan`s home series against Australia next month.

Biomechanical testing in Lahore confirmed the 21-year-old breached the 15-degree limit for elbow extension on his "good length delivery, full-length delivery, slow bouncer and bouncer", the PCB said in a statement.

"Keeping his future and Pakistan`s interest at the forefront, the PCB ... has decided he will not be allowed to continue to participate in the Pakistan Super League," it said.

"Until Mohammad Hasnain clears his reassessment, he will remain suspended from bowling in international cricket."
The PCB described the bowler as an "asset" citing his ability to bowl consistently at 145 kmph and was optimistic of his return to the game after remodelling his action.

"The PCB has discussed the report with its own bowling experts and is confident that the problem can be resolved."

"He will use this time to work with the PCB-appointed bowling consultant to modify his bowling action so that he can apply for a reassessment and become eligible to return to international cricket as quickly as practically possible."

The right-arm fast bowler has been a regular part of Pakistan`s white-ball squads and claimed a hat-trick in a Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka in 2019.

Former Pakistan captain Aamer Sohail has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to work towards resuming bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan. The arch-rivals share one of the fiercest rivalries on the cricket pitch but have not played a bilateral series between them since 2013.

India and Pakistan continue to meet only in major ICC tournaments due to the ongoing political tension between the two countries. Lamenting the lack of bilateral cricket between the two teams, Sohail said fans have been deprived of relishing the epic rivalry.

"The ICC keeps on emphasising that politics should not be involved as far as cricket is concerned and I agree with that. The contest between India and Pakistan always brings that anticipation all around the world. Cricket fans are deprived of that," Sohail was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

India and Pakistan last met in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 last year where the Men in Green pulled off a dominant ten-wicket win to end their winless streak against India in World Cups. Pakistan registered their first-ever win against the Men in Blue in a World Cup encounter last year.

Former Pakistan captain Sohail also shared his views on Rohit Sharma being appointed as India's limited-overs captain after the departure of Virat Kohli. The Pakistan great believes Rohit is the right choice for captaincy and his experience of leading the Mumbai Indians in the IPL will also help India.

"Rohit Sharma is a good choice as a captain. His batting doesn't seem to get affected by captaincy. Of course, his experience as the Mumbai Indians skipper at the IPL (Indian Premier League) would help. IPL helps the new players get prepared and make them comfortable with the camera. But I believe the IPL performances should not be the criterion for selection to the Test team; it should be based only on First-Class cricket," said Sohail.

India will lock horns with Pakistan in their opening game of the T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne. The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full schedule of the mega event on Friday (January 21), confirming a blockbuster clash between the two arch-rivals in their respective opening games.

The much-anticipated game is scheduled to take place at the MCG on October 23. India and Pakistan have both been placed in Pool 2 with Bangladesh and South Africa. Reacting to the news of India and Pakistan locking horns once again in a major ICC event, former England captain Michael Vaughan said any India-Pakistan game is bigger than the Ashes.

While many believe Ashes, which is one of the oldest rivalries in cricket involving England and Australia, is the biggest series in world cricket, Vaughan called India-Pakistan clash the biggest game.

Vaughan, who has himself been part of some of the memorable Ashes encounters, said not Ashes but India-Pakistan clashes are the biggest.

“I think, we being England and Australia ex-players, we all kind of think of the Ashes as the biggest game in world cricket, it’s not! India vs Pakistan is the biggest game. Looking forward to Rohit Sharma being the captain, probably the first time he’s going to be under real pressure. It’s going to be an epic event,” Vaughan said while speaking to Star Sports.

Wishes have been pouring in from all corners for Virat Kohli after he announced his decision to relinquish India's Test captaincy on Saturday (January 15). Several current and former cricketers have taken to social media to congratulate the former India captain on a successful stint as the leader of the national team in the longest format of the game.

Kohli announced his decision, a day after India's seven-wicket loss in the third and final Test of the recently-concluded three-match Test series against South Africa. The seven-wicket defeat saw India lose the series 2-1 as their dream of winning their maiden Test series against the Proteas in their own backyard remained unfulfilled.

Nonetheless, Kohli signed off as one of the most decorated Test captains of all time. He remains the first Asian captain to win a Test series on Australian soil and led India to some memorable wins both at home and away from home. Kohli is the most successful Indian captain of all time in Tests with 40 wins in 68 matches as skipper of the side.

While the Indian cricket fraternity sent across their wishes on Kohli's stepping down as the Test team captain of the Indian team, former and current Pakistani cricketers also hailed the former Indian skipper on his departure. A number of Pakistani players including the likes of Mohammad Amir, Nasim Shah and others lauded Kohli.

Kohli was appointed as India's full-time Test captain in the year 2014 after MS Dhoni's retirement from the longest format. In his seven-year stint as the captain of the team, Kohli took India to greater heights in Test cricket and made them a dominating force across all conditions.

Kohli led India to their maiden Test series win in Australia while also inspiring them to series victories in West Indies and Sri Lanka. Kohli closely missed out on ending his captaincy stint with a series win in South Africa as India slipped to a 2-1 defeat after winning the series-opener comfortably.

'7 years of fearless leadership': Pakistani cricketers hail Virat Kohli as he leaves India's Test captaincy

Star Pakistan batter Mohammad Rizwan hailed Virat Kohli as the best batter in the world as he opened up on his equation with the Indian Test skipper. Rizwan and Kohli had come up against each other during India's blockbuster clash against Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2021 last year.

Rizwan had slammed an unbeaten half-century along with Pakistan skipper Babar Azam to help their team earn a comprehensive win by ten wickets against India. Babar (68) and Rizwan (79) slammed unbeaten half-centuries apiece to take the Men in Green home comfortably. Rizwan revealed a lot was said from Kohli's end during Pakistan's run-chase but refused to dwell into the details of the conversation.

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez announces retirement from international cricket

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi revealed he got a call from under-pressure Shaheen Shah Afridi ahead of the high-profile clash between India and Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2021. India and Pakistan had locked horns in their respective opening game of the showpiece at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.

Shaheen, who is regarded as one of the most promising pacers in world cricket at present, had video-called former all-rounder Afridi to settle his nerves ahead of the big clash. Shaheen went on to make a lasting impression with his brilliant performance against the Virat Kohli-led side as he picked up three big wickets in the game.

Shaheen gave Pakistan a cracking start in the high-pressure game as he got rid of Rohit Sharma on a duck before picking up the wickets of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli to deliver a performance for the ages. However, he was under pressure heading into the game and had spoken to Afridi ahead of the game.

“Before the first game against India, Shaheen video-called me and told me that I'm feeling a bit of pressure. We talked for about 11-12 minutes, I told him that God gave you the opportunity to go out and perform, you strike those wickets and become a hero. By god's grace, he did exactly that,” former Pakistan all-rounder Afridi said on Samaa TV.

Pakistan managed to restrict India on a moderate total of 151 runs with the help of Shaheen's Man of the Match performance with the ball. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan then helped the Men in Green chase down the target without losing a single wicket to earn a comprehensive ten-wicket win.

It was Pakistan's maiden win against India in a World Cup match as they broke their losing streak against the arch-rivals and got off to a winning start in the tournament. Afridi also recalled his playing days and revealed he always looked forward to matches against India. Afridi said he would not even sleep a night before a game against India during his playing days.

“It's intense. If you talk about me, we couldn't even sleep the whole night. We used to wait for it. Some players would go into their own shell but I used to wait for that game eagerly.. 'When will we play against India?' I used to think. Even if someone doesn't like cricket, they would sit in front of the television when India plays Pakistan in cricket,” said Afridi.

'I'm feeling a bit of pressure': Shahid Afridi reveals Pakistan pacer called him before India clash in T20 WC

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has revealed he was not in favour of Babar Azam taking over as the captain of the national team. Babar was appointed as Pakistan's limited-overs captain in 2019 post the team's disappointing exit from the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. The batting maestro later took over from Azhar Ali as the captain of the Test side as well in 2020.

Afridi, one of the greatest all-rounders to have played for Pakistan, revealed he was not confident when Babar was appointed as the captain of the Pakistan team and had doubts over his leadership credentials. The former captain, however, is happy to have been proved wrong by Babar, who has not only performed consistently with the bat since taking over captaincy across all three formats but has also been a great leader.

During an interaction on Pakistani news channel Samaa TV, Afridi said how he was afraid of the captaincy burden increasing the pressure on Babar, which could have taken a toll on his batting.

"I was afraid that there would be a lot of pressure on Babar Azam," Afridi said on Samaa Tv.

Pakistan team's captaincy is not a small thing. Being the captain, one needs to handle the media and players. The captain needs to speak to PCB and the selection committee as well. I was not confident that he (Azam) would be able to lead the squad. But, he has proved me wrong with his performance (as captain)," he added.

Babar led Pakistan to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup in 2021 where the Men in Green went down against eventual winners Australia. Pakistan were a dominant force in the year 2021 as they won 20 out of the 29 T20Is they played this year with Mohammad Rizwan and Babar finishing the year as the two highest run-getters in the format.

'I was not confident': Shahid Afridi reveals he was not in favour of Babar Azam becoming Pakistan's captain

Hardik Pandya was once considered one of the most important members of the Indian cricket team across formats. He was contributing well with both the bat and the ball and had almost become indispensable in all three formats of the game. However, the star all-rounder is currently not part of India's squad in any of the three formats as he continues to deal with injuries and fitness concerns.

Hardik's fitness has been questioned by many in recent times as the all-rounder has failed to bowl regularly. Ever since his back surgery in 2020, he has not been able to contribute properly with the ball. He did not bowl at all for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2021 and also played as a pure batter for India on several occasions.

He bowled only at times when a few overs were desperately required from him. Recently, India's former head coach Ravi Shastri said Pandya needs to work on his fitness to be able to bowl at least four overs regularly in T20Is. Reacting to Shastri's comments, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt criticised Pandya for his poor fitness.

Butt believes Pandya is too weak to even last in just one format and should be putting on some more muscles on his body to ensure he doesn't keep getting injured easily.

"Hardik Pandya's body is so weak that he can't even survive in a single format. He needs to put on some muscle by weight training and proper diet," Butt said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"Ravi Shastri recently said Pandya should go back and work hard so that he is able to bowl 4 overs. That means he can't even bowl 4 overs properly at the moment," he added.

The all-rounder, who was retained for a whopping Rs 11 crore by Mumbai Indians in 2018, has been released by the franchise ahead of the 2022 season. He might join one of the two new teams - Lucknow or Ahmedabad ahead of IPL 2022.

Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi recently named a teammate who he thinks is a better captain than Babar Azam. Babar is currently Pakistan's captain across all three formats and had recently led the team to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE. Pakistan had remained unbeaten in the group stages and recorded a massive ten-wicket win against arch-rivals India in the tournament.

Babar has been lauded by many for leading the team by example with his consistent performances with the bat. However, Afridi believes his opening partner Mohammad Rizwan is a better captain and has great leadership qualities. Afridi, who had started his domestic career under Rizwan's captaincy, rated Rizwan above Babar in the best captain debate.

“I like [Mohammad] Rizwan’s personality. I started playing domestic competition with him from KPK’s side and I would rate him as the best. Since Babar has done a fantastic job with the national team, I will rank him second,” Afridi was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

However, the pacer, who was recently named captain of his Pakistan Super League (PSL) side Lahore Qalandars, called Babar the best batsman in the world. He also lauded the Pakistan skipper for leading the national team well and taking the side to greater heights.

“Babar Azam is my favourite batsman and he is the number one batter as well. He has done fantastically well as a captain for the national team and we are reaching new heights under him,” said Shaheen Afridi.

Afridi's comments are certainly not going to go down well with fans of Babar. Nonetheless, the batting maestro is likely to be Pakistan's skipper across formats for a number of years. He was appointed as Pakistan's captain for the first time after the team's disappointing exit from the 2019 ODI World Cup and has since done a terrific job while leading the side.

After New Zealand had abandoned Pakistan tour right before the toss of the tour-opener was set to take place on September 17, there were severe criticism of the NZC. However, looks like bygones are now bygones as the New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reached a conclusion as the Black Caps are set to tour Pakistan twice in late 2022-early 2023 and also return for more limited-overs fixtures in April 2023.

The official Twitter handle of the PCB shared the development with one and all on Monday (December 20) and wrote, "Brace yourselves! New Zealand to tour Pakistan for two Tests and three ODIs in December/January 2022-23 and will return in April 2023 for 10 white-ball matches. Exciting, right?"

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 cricket competition in the world and has players from across the globe ply their trade for the franchises in the competition. Besides being one of the most successful franchise cricket leagues in the world, it is also one of the richest tournaments in the sport.

The IPL has over the years witnessed tremendous growth in terms of quality and viewership as it remains a dream for cricketers around the globe to take part in the cash-rich league. Since its inception in 2008, IPL has played a massive role in the rise of several young cricketers who have gone on to become world-beaters for their respective countries and have become superstars in world cricket.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) - the domestic T20 competition of Pakistan has often been compared with the IPL despite there being a vast difference in the quality of the two leagues. Over the years, several former Pakistan cricketers have tried to draw comparisons between the IPL and PSL and the latest to join the bandwagon is former Pakistan fast bowler Aaqib Javed.

Javed believes PSL is a better league compared to the IPL and is the most interesting league in the world due to the nature of pitches in Pakistan. Compared to PSL, Javed said IPL has only flat pitches and the quality of bowling is low.

"This [PSL] is the most interesting league in the world, if there are no interruptions due to Covid-19 or anything else, because of the nature of the pitches. For instance, Lahore's pitch has some support for the bowlers, whereas you see higher scores in Karachi," Javed was quoted as saying by samaa.tv by PTV Sports.

"On the other hand if you look at IPL, there is only one type of cricket being played there due to extremely flat surfaces and low-quality bowling," added the former Pakistan pacer.

The comments didn't go down well with cricket fans on Twitter, who lashed out at Javed for his 'low-quality bowling' remark on the IPL and schooled him. Check out some of the tweets -

Former Pakistan pacer rates IPL below PSL over 'low quality bowling', gets trolled brutally on Twitter

Taking a dig at Indian cricket team fans, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has said Indians will now say they don't have players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in their team. Latif lauded the Pakistani opening duo for their batting heroics in T20Is this year and hailed them for their remarkable consistency.

Babar and Rizwan displayed sensational form throughout the year and dominated the proceedings in T20Is. The duo produced several memorable match-winning partnerships for Pakistan and broke a number of records with their batting exploits in the shortest format of the game.

While Rizwan is the top run-getter in T20Is in 2021 with 1326 runs to his name, Babar is at the second spot having amassed 939 runs in T20Is this year. The duo was also in terrific form in the T20 World Cup 2021 where they helped the Men in Green reach the semi-finals.

Hailing Babar and Rizwan for their brilliant consistency, Latif took a dig at Indian fans during a show on Pakistani news channel PTV Sports and said - "About a year ago, we used to say that Pakistan doesn’t have players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul, especially in T20 cricket. But I think, after some time, Indians will also say that we don’t have players like Rizwan and Babar.”

Babar and Rizwan are the only players to have crossed the 900-run mark in T20Is this year and have been sensational as an opening duo for Pakistan. Rizwan had recently become the first batsman in the world to notch up 2000 runs in a calendar year in T20 cricket. 1326 of those came in T20 internationals for Pakistan, including twelve half-centuries and a hundred.

Despite being consistent performers for their team in T20Is, Babar and Rizwan have often been criticised for their moderate strike rate. However, Latif believes the duo has made up for their strike rate by pacing their innings perfectly.

"Earlier, we also had our reservations about their scoring rate, but they made up for it by pacing their innings perfectly," said the former Pakistan captain.

We used to say Pakistan don't have Kohli, Rohit. Now India will say we don't have Babar, Rizwan: Rashid Latif

Mohammad Rizwan has been one of the top performers for Pakistan in T20 cricket this year. 2000 runs in a year! Mohammad Rizwan sets new T20 world record with 87-run knock against West Indies

Pakistan got off to a winning start in the onging three-match series against West Indies at home. Babar Azam & Co. thrashed West Indies by 63 runs in the series-opener at the National Stadium in Karachi to take 1-0 lead and set a new world record in T20Is. Pakistan became the first team to register as many as 18 wins in T20Is in a calendar year, bettering their own record of 17 wins from 2018.

It was a dominant performance from the Pakistan batters, who took the Windies bowlers to the cleaners and set up a huge total of 200 runs on the board. Opener Mohammad Rizwan slammed a brilliant 78 off 52 balls while Haider Ali scored a quickfire 68 off just 39 deliveries. After dominating the proceedings with the bat, Pakistan also did well with the ball to bundle out the visitors cheaply and register a massive win.

Chasing a big target of 201 runs, West Indies were skittled out for just 137 runs in 19 overs as Mohammad Wasim picked up a four-wicket haul while Shadab Khan finished with three wickets. The win marked Pakistan's 18th T20I victory in 2021 as they broke their own record from 2018. Pakistan have the record of most wins in a calendar year to their name in T20Is.

The Men in Green have been a force to reckon with in T20Is in recent years and performed exceptionally well in the T20 World Cup 2021. Pakistan had thumped India by ten wickets in their first Super 12 encounter at the T20 World Cup 2021 to bring an end to their losing streak against their arch-rivals in World Cup matches before hammering New Zealand by eight wickets.

They remained unbeaten in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 but had to bow out of the competition after losing in the semi-final against eventual champions Australia.

Pakistan create history, set new world record after thrashing West Indies by 63 runs in 1st T201

Despite no play being possible in the final session on Day 1, only 6.2 overs being bowled on Day 2, no play on the third day and a delayed start to the penultimate day, Pakistan thrashed Bangladesh by an innings and 8 runs to win the second and final Test, at Dhaka, and complete a series whitewash over the hapless Bangla Tigers.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan rode on fifties from Azhar Ali, Captain Babar Azam and Fawad Alam to declare at 300/4 with time running out in the contest. However, Bangladesh folded for a paltry 87 in their first innings on Day 4 and fell for 205, following-on, in the second essay to lose the rain-affected clash on the final day.

While inexperienced spinner Sajid Khan stood tall with the ball for Pakistan, returning with 12 scalps in the match, Babar Azam also made heads turn by bowling in both the innings. Though he didn't manage to take a wicket in the home side's first innings, he trapped Mehidy Hasan (14) lbw to achieve his maiden international wicket on Day 5. Here's the video of the dismissal:

Pak vs Ban, 2nd Test: Babar Azam gets his maiden international scalp on Day 5 of series finale - Watch

Bangladesh slipped to 76/7 at stumps on Day 4 of the second Test after Pakistan declared at 300/4 in their first innings, here on Tuesday. Bangladesh had a horror-filled Day Four in Dhaka as Sajid Khan, the young Pakistani spinner, ripped through the hosts` batting order and bagged six wickets.

After rain played spoilsport on two consecutive days, the start of day four also got delayed due to light showers and a wet outfield. However, the match resumed after almost an hour and a half`s wait with Pakistan on 188/2, and Babar Azam and Azhar Ali were on 71 not out and 52 not out respectively.

On the first ball he faced, Azhar struck a four. But two balls later, he threw away his wicket, getting caught behind after scoring 56. Shortly after, Azam followed suit, falling for 76.

Thereafter, the two new batters -- Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan combined for a steady stand and made sure there were not any more hiccups in the session. They batted with caution and kept the scoreboard ticking with regular boundaries. They took their side to Lunch at 242/4, with their stand worth 45 runs at the time.

The two batters kept finding the ropes after the break and soon got to their respective fifties before Azam decided to declare the innings at 300/4 in an attempt to force a result in the four sessions remaining.

One over into Bangladesh`s innings, Pakistan had to bring on their spinners due to the dwindling light in Mirpur. The forced move proved to work out well as Sajid Khan dismissed debutant Mahmudul Hasan Joy for a duck. Sajid picked up his second wicket as Bangladesh lost their other opener, Shadman Islam, to a soft dismissal.

It went from bad to worse for the hosts when they lost their skipper Mominul Haque to a run-out. Trying to steal a quick single, Haque was short of his crease after Hasan Ali hit the stumps directly at the non-striker`s end as Bangladesh went into Tea at 22/3.

In the third session, Sajid struck for the third time as Mushfiqur Rahim went for a wild slog but failed to connect as the ball traveled only to short mid-wicket. In their bid to be aggressive, Bangladesh lost another wicket with Liton Das charging down the track and straight into the hands of Sajid Khan who completed a good reflex return catch.

Despite having lost half their side, Shakib Al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto continued to show intent and lived dangerously. The pair smashed three boundaries in a space of seven deliveries before Sajid trapped Shanto to register his maiden Test five-for.

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has made a controversial remark claiming the Indian players were 'scared' and 'under pressure' even before the start of the game against Pakistan in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2021. India had suffered a crushing defeat by ten wickets against arch-rivals Pakistan in the opening clash of the showpiece event in Dubai.

The ten-wicket defeat was India's first against Pakistan in the history of the World Cup. India were on a winning streak of twelve matches against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup combined but the Men in Green brought an end to their losing streak with a flawless victory.

Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam questioned the body language of the Indian players before the start of the high-octane clash and said it was evident at the toss that Indian skipper Virat Kohli was under pressure compared to Pakistan's Babar Azam.

"I feel the Indians were scared even before the match started. Their body language, if you see Virat Kohli and Babar Azam's interview at the toss, you could sense who was under pressure," Inzamam said on ARY News.

Batting first, India got off to a shambolic start in the game as they lost opener Rohit Sharma cheaply on a duck in the very first over before KL Rahul was sent packing for 3. Skipper Kohli's 57 off 49 balls and Rishabh Pant's 39 off 30 deliveries helped India post 151 runs on the board. Inzamam claimed the pressure didn't catch up to India after Rohit's dismissal but that the Men in Blue were on the back foot even before the start of the game.

"Our team's body language was much better than theirs. It wasn't that India were under pressure after Rohit Sharma's dismissal. Sharma himself was under pressure. It was evident that they all were under pressure even before the match began," Inzamam said.

After getting bundled out for 151, Indian bowlers failed to pick up a single wicket as half-centuries from Babar and Mohammad Rizwan helped Pakistan win the game by ten wickets with 13 balls to spare. The victory hampered India's morale as they went on to lose their next game against New Zealand to bow out of the tournament from the group stages with two wins and three defeats.

Inzamam said the pressure after losing their opening game against Pakistan took a toll on the Indian team and they couldn't recover from it as they suffered yet another shambolic defeat against the Kiwis. The former Pakistan captain said India are a good T20I side but the pressure cost them the tournament.

"Indian team never plays the way they did. They are a good T20 team, there is no doubt about it. If you look at their performance in the last 2-3 years, they were the favourites. But that India-Pakistan match put so much pressure on them that there was no looking back," said Inzamam.

"Their feet weren't moving at all. After losing to Pakistan, they were handed so much criticism and there was a 3-4 day break. The poor guys couldn't even play Santner and Sodhi. They are such good players of spin. That pressure mounted on them." he added.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan had a terrific run in the T20 World Cup 2021 edition. However, the Men in Green couldn't replicate their 2009 edition's success and bowed out of the mega event in the second semi-final, losing to eventual winners Australia by 5 wickets.

Being asked to bat first in the semi-final encounter, in Dubai, Pakistan posted a competitive 176-4 riding on half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman. However, Australia managed to edge past the Men in Green courtesy Marcus Stoinis-Matthew Wade's unbeaten 81-run sixth-wicket stand. With 20 needed off 10 balls, Wade (41) was given a reprieve as Hasan Ali failed to hold onto a catch before Wade-Stoinis (40*) took Australia home.

Ahead of the Bangla Tigers' fifth encounter in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10 league, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Ali backed Hasan Ali as the speedster was trolled mercilessly for dropping Wade's catch, leading to Pakistan's elimination. Thus, Amir hit back at trolls and reflected back on Pakistan's 'proud campaign'.

They were playing in the UAE during IPL 14, however, they couldn't perform. So, the ones who were trolling are ones who don't understand cricket. Ones who understand will never troll."

He further added, "Catches are always dropped. Even I have dropped quite a few. That catch (Hasan Ali's drop) wasn't the reason for us losing the semi-finals. We still had to defend 18 to defend off 9 balls so it was due to bad bowling. Yes, there was pressure and Hasan is a good fielder, hence, he usually fields in the hotspots.

You can't troll this team. There were different match-winners in every game so it was a huge achievement and a proud campaign. We should only give credit to the Pakistan team."

Babar-led Pakistan defeated India for the first time in WC history and topped their group (Pool B) being unbeaten before losing the semi-final clash.

Md Amir hits back at trolls for Hasan Ali's dropped catch in T20 WC semis, reflects on Pak's campaign

Dubai Cricket Council chairman Abdul Rahman Falaknaz has offered to host India-Pakistan matches in the UAE making the country a neutral venue for both teams. India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series between them since 2013 owing to the political tension between the two nations.

After successfully hosting the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2021, Falaknaz believes UAE can serve as the perfect venue for high voltage India-Pakistan clashes. While India have refused to travel to Pakistan, BCCI might agree to host games against the arch-rivals at a neutral venue like the UAE.

Recalling the good old days when India and Pakistan used to play regularly in Sharjah, Falaknaz said the matches between the two teams used to be like a sporting war on the field. He said getting India and Pakistan playing in the UAE will be the best thing for the Emirates Cricket Board.

"The best thing would be to get India-Pakistan matches here. When Sharjah used to host India and Pakistan all those years ago, it was like a war. But it was a good war, it was a sporting war and it was fantastic," Falaknaz was quoted as saying by the Khaleej Times.

"I remember (Bollywood actor) Raj Kapoor came once with his family. During the awards night, he took the mic and said, ‘How wonderful it is to have these India-Pakistan battles in Sharjah. Cricket brings people together, cricket has brought us together, and let us remain this way'," he added.

With their comprehensive ten-wicket win, Pakistan brought an end to their losing streak against India in World Cup matches and bagged their first win against the Men in Blue in a World Cup game.

'It used to be like a war': Dubai Cricket Council chairman offers to host India-Pakistan series in UAE

Pakistan got off to a winning start in the ongoing three-match T20I series against Bangladesh on Friday as they defeated the hosts by four wickets in a low-scoring thriller at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. Pakistan held their nerves to chase down the target of 128 runs with four balls to spare after restricting Bangladesh for 127/7 in 20 overs.

Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali, who was subjected to vicious abuse after dropping a catch in the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final against Australia, made a strong comeback as he bowled a magnificent spell against Bangladesh in Dhaka. Ali picked up 3 wickets while conceding only 22 runs off his four overs against the hosts to help Pakistan restrict them on a low-key total.

While Ali produced an exceptional performance, what caught the eye of many was the speed gun when it showed that the Pakistan fast bowler had clocked an unbelievable 219 kph. The incident happened in the second over of Bangladesh's innings when Ali was bowling against Najmul Hossain Shanto.

It was certainly an error on the speed gun as it showed that the delivery was bowled at 219 km/hr or 136.1 mph on the television screens. Fans were left baffled on social media as the fastest delivery ever bowled in cricket history was clocked at 161.3 kph by former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar against England in the 2003 ODI World Cup.

The Rawalpindi Express' record of fastest delivery remains intact as it was a speed gun error in Hasan Ali's case.

Shoaib Akhtar's record broken? Twitter in shock as Hasan Ali clocks '219 kph' in 1st T20I against Bangladesh

Pakistan made it two wins in a row against Bangladesh on Saturday as they defeated the hosts by eight wickets to clinch the three-match series 2-0. Pakistan bowlers once again produced an excellent performance to restrict Bangladesh on a low-key total of 108 runs and chased down the target comfortably with eleven balls to spare to win the game.

There were not many heated moments between the players of the two sides in the second T20I on Saturday but one particular incident caught the eyes of many. Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi hit Bangladesh batter Afif Hossain with a dangerous throw on the follow-through after being hit for a six on the previous delivery.

The incident happened in the third over of Bangladesh's innings when Hossain defended a delivery and the ball went straight to Afridi. The speedster collected the ball and there it back towards the stumps only for it to hit Afif dangerously as the batter went down on the ground instantly.

The incident didn't go down well with many fans on Twitter, who slammed the Pakistani fast bowler for his actions. Afif scored 20 runs before getting dismissed in the 9th over by Shadab Khan. Shadab and Shaheen were both impressive with the ball for Pakistan as they picked up two wickets apiece to restrict Bangladesh on a paltry 108.

In reply, Pakistan once again got off to a stuttering start as they lost skipper Babar Azam (1) cheaply in the third over of the run-chase.
