Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has made some startling revelations from his playing days for the Pakistan cricket team. Kaneria, who had earlier made some explosive revelations about being mistreated on religious grounds in the Pakistan side, has now levelled serious allegations against former Pakistan team captain Shahid Afridi.

Kaneria has called Afridi a 'characterless' person while accusing him of conspiring against him in the Pakistan team for being a Hindu. Kaneria said he was mistreated in the Pakistan team just because he was a Hindu and blamed Afridi for provoking other players against him on religious grounds.

This is not the first time, the former Pakistan spinner has made such startling revelations. Earlier, he had come out in public about being treated unfairly in the team after former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar had claimed Kaneria was treated unfairly by a few Pakistani players for being a Hindu.

"Shoaib Akhtar was the first person to talk about my problem in public. Hats off to him for saying it (how I was mistreated in the team because of being a Hindu). However, he was later pressured by several authorities. He then stopped talking about it. But yes, it did happen to me. I was always degraded by Shahid Afridi. We used to play together for the same department, he used to keep me on the bench and didn't let me play the one-day tournament," Kaneria told IANS in an interview.

"He didn't want me to be in the team. He was a liar, manipulator... because he's a characterless person. However, my focus was only on cricket and I used to ignore all these tactics. Shahid Afridi was the only person who would go to other players and provoke them against me. I was performing well and he was jealous of me. I am proud that I played for Pakistan. I was grateful," the ex-Pakistan spinner added.

Kaneria, who played 61 Tests and 18 ODIs for Pakistan, is the 4th highest wicket-taker for the country in Tests with 261 scalps to his name. Despite being a successful bowler in Tests, Kaneria got limited opportunities in ODIs as he managed to make only 18 appearances in the fifty-over format.

Kaneria, who was charged by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over match-fixing allegations, said he was targeted by the board. The former spinner said he could have played more than 18 ODIs for the Pakistan national team had it not been for Afridi, who conspired against him.

"Some false allegations were levelled against me (of spot-fixing). My name was joined with the person involved in the case. He was a friend of other Pakistani cricketers as well, including Afridi. But I don't know why I was targeted. I just want to request the PCB to lift the ban so that I can do my work.

"There are several fixers who got out of ban. I don't know why I am not able to get that treatment. I have played for my country and I should be given a chance like others as well. Now I am not even playing any international cricket. I am not asking the PCB for any job, but please lift this ban so that I can live peacefully and do my work with respect," said Kaneria.

Shaheen Afridi has grown from strength to strength with each game for Pakistan. He has become the Men in Green's multi-format player in no time and his stature is rising at a rapid pace. Last year, the young pacer was the star performer for Babar Azam & Co. as Pakistan finally ended their winless streak versus India in World Cup history.

With India and Pakistan playing each other in their respective Super 12 opening clash in 2021 T20 World Cup, in Dubai, Shaheen returned with a match-winning spell of 3 for 31 -- dismissing India's Big Three in Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli -- as Pakistan restricted India for 151-7 before the one-time winners chased it down with ten wickets and 13 balls to spare.

Recently, in conversation with Geo Super, Shaheen revealed he had a chat with Shahid Afridi to get some tips ahead of the marquee clash versus India. "When we had that match against India in the T20 World Cup, I requested Lala to have a word with me. Because before that I played just one match against India, that too in Asia Cup, which was in One-Day format. And this was a T20 game and we never won a World Cup game against India," Shaheen said.

"So I thought that this was a big opportunity for me. So I called Lala for some tips and asked him, 'What different do I do today?'. He gave me very good advice and told, 'Do something so that the entire stadium notices only Shaheen' and give your 100 percent in bowling and fielding. I just did that and we got the results,” he added.

Jasprit Bumrah is currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition. While he was been economical for the struggling Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 15th season, he has managed to pick only five wickets from eight games so far.

On the other hand, Shaheen Shah Afridi's rise has been spectacular in recent times. He accounted for a total of 17 wickets across formats during Pakistan's home series versus Australia recently. While Bumrah was also among wickets in India-Sri Lanka Tests, in the run-up to IPL 2022, Shaheen has made heads turn in recent times whereas Bumrah is being played by caution in the ongoing IPL season. Thus, former Pakistani cricketer Aqib Javed made a bold claim on Bumrah-Shaheen. He also added that Men in Green speedster Haris Rauf has a more aggressive body language than the Indian pacer.

It is to be noted that Bumrah remains India's premier pacer across formats. He has been in form in Tests, also chipped in with key wickets in 2022 India-South Africa ODIs but hasn't played a lot of T20Is post last year's World Cup. At present, he might not be picking wickets at regular intervals for his IPL franchise, he still remains a potent threat for batters across formats.

“After the IPL, they will start preparing for the international matches again. We have an Asia Cup and then the World Cup. They will have to try him out in one of them. Maybe the Aussies could play him,” Latif said.

Malik was quite impressive against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday as he troubled the batsmen with bounce and pace. The SRH fast bowler ended up taking two wickets including the prized scalp of Shreyas Iyer.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja is considering resigning from his position in the wake of the ouster of Imran Khan as prime minister of the country, according to sources.

Ramiz, who like Imran is also a former Pakistan captain, is presently in Dubai for the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings which concluded on Sunday.

"Ramiz had only agreed to become the chairman of the Board on the insistence of Imran for whom all the players who played under his captaincy including Ramiz have a lot of regard and respect," a source well aware of the developments said on Sunday.

"Ramiz was well set in a career as commentator, TV personality and expert and was busy with assignments. But on Imran's insistence he agreed to put aside all his media contacts and become chairman of the board," the source said.

"Ramiz had also made it clear to the PM that he would only remain in the Board until he (Imran Khan) was PM."

The source said that with Imran now ousted as PM, who is also Patron-in-Chief of the Board and directly nominates the chairman for a formal election process, it is highly unlikely Ramiz would stay on unless the new Premier wants him to carry on with his job.

Since Ramiz took over as PCB chairman last September he has made a lot of changes in the Board and also followed up on Imran's insistence on a domestic cricket structure based on just six first class provincial teams.

Soon after taking charge, he made it clear to Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis that they were no longer required as head coach and bowling coach of the national team and should resign.

He also asked the head of the high-performance centre in Lahore, Grant Bradburn, and some other coaches to resign.

His biggest move was to create circumstances where Wasim Khan stepped down as CEO of the Board.

Since then, Ramiz has brought in a new CEO but with Imran's government now gone, it remains to be seen what will happen to the new appointments in the Board as it is no secret that political changes also have a big bearing on Pakistan cricket set-up.

"If Shahbaz Sharif becomes new Premier, then there is every likelihood he might convey to Ramiz his services are no longer required and bring back Najam Sethi to head the Board," the source said.

But, with no international or domestic commitments for the national team until June, changes in the Board will not affect cricket affairs.

Sethi resigned soon after Imran won the last general elections as he never got along with the former captain on political issues.

Ramiz Raja considering resigning as PCB chief in the wake of Imran Khan's ouster as Pakistan PM

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has said he doesn't want his son to become a cricketer despite his interest in the sport. Sarfaraz is one of Pakistan's most successful captains having led the team to a memorable Champions Trophy triumph in 2017. Pakistan had defeated arch-rivals India in the final to clinch the Champions Trophy title that year.

Sarfaraz led Pakistan across all formats for a number of years and also has a terrific record as captain in T20Is having won 29 and lost just 8 matches for Pakistan in the shortest format. He was sacked from captaincy post the team's debacle in the 2019 ODI World Cup with Babar Azam getting appointed as the new skipper.

Having dealt with several highs and lows in his cricketing career and having witnessed the kind of mental and physical stress a cricketer has to endure in his career, Sarfaraz doesn't want his son Abdullah to follow in his footsteps in the game.

"Abdullah is passionate about playing cricket. But, I don't want him to become a cricketer," Sarfaraz was quoted as saying to a news channel by Cricket Pakistan.

"Actually, being a cricketer, I suffered many things that I don't want Abdullah to face. It's human nature. Being a cricketer, I want my brother or son to be selected immediately. Otherwise, it hurts," he explained.

Sarfaraz made his debut for Pakistan in the year 2007 but it took him several years to cement his spot in the side before being appointed as the captain of the side. Despite being a pretty successful cricketer himself, Sarfaraz wants his son to stay away from the game and achieve his dreams himself. The former Pakistan captain revealed how the likes of former Pakistan cricketer Moeen Khan and Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza have praised Abdulla's cricketing skills in the past.

"A lot of people said to me that Abdullah is talented and I should let him play cricket. Moin Bhai had praised Abdullah's skills, also, Sania Mirza once told me that Abdullah has the potential to become a cricketer. But, I want him to achieve his goals by working hard. Nobody should give him an easy way just because he is my son," said Sarfaraz.

'Being a cricketer, I have suffered': Ex-Pakistan captain on why he doesn't want his son to take up cricket

India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries in world cricket. The stakes are always high when the two arch-rivals lock horns on the international stage. Millions of fans around the world stay glued to their TV screens when the two teams meet each other irrespective of the competition.

Though the two teams have not played any bilateral cricket between them since 2013 due to political tensions between the two nations, they continue to meet in major ICC competitions. India and Pakistan have over the years produced a number of thrilling encounters across formats and any meeting between the two sides is always a high-octane affair.

The semi-final of the 2011 ODI World Cup between India and Pakistan remains one of the most famous encounters between the arch-rivals. With a spot in the final on the line, the pressure was immense on both teams as they locked horns at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

While stakes were high as it was a knockout clash in a World Cup and a game against Pakistan, there was also additional pressure on the MS Dhoni-led Indian team. Paddy Upton, who was the strength and conditioning coach of the Indian team back then, recently recalled why the semi-final against Pakistan was a non-negotiable game to lose for India.

“There was an additional extraneous political pressure that nobody spoke about but everybody was acutely aware of: if India lost, Pakistan would go to Mumbai and stay at the very same Taj Hotel that was a target of the terrorist attacks," Upton wrote in his column for the Indian Express on the 11th anniversary of India's 2011 World Cup triumph.

"Each one of us knew the symbolism of that without having to say it. That was not really ideal to allow Pakistan to win and go to stay at Taj; it didn’t stack up on an energetic level. So, there was that additional pressure that this was to be a non-negotiable game to lose," he explained further.

It was a thrilling encounter between the two sides in Mohali as India rode on Sachin Tendulkar's brilliant knock of 85 runs to post 260 runs on the board before bundling out Pakistan for 231 runs to win the game 29 runs and enter the final. Tendulkar got a couple of lifelines during the game and made the most of it to help India out on a strong total on the board.

Speaking about the India-Pakistan rivalry, Upton said the players from both sides know each other well and there is no animosity but the fierceness is more about the spectators. He also stated that the Indian players didn't need any extra motivation to win against Pakistan in the semi-final.

“The fierce Indo-Pak rivalry is more about spectators; players themselves don’t have that fierceness and animosity. They know each other fairly well and get along well. Pakistan was always a very easy game for which to prepare the Indian team for as they didn’t need any extra motivation,” Upton wrote.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Babar Azam-ed Pakistan cricket team after their shambolic defeat against Australia in the final third Test of the three-match series at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore on Friday (March 25). Australia skittled out Pakistan for 235 runs in their second innings to win the game by 115 runs and clinch the series 1-0.

Skipper Cummins led the charge as the Australian bowlers ran through the Pakistan batting line-up in the final session on Day 5 of the Lahore Test. Cummins picked up the important wickets of Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan to finish with three wickets to his name while spinner Nathan Lyon bagged a five-wicket haul.

Akhtar lashed out at the Pakistan team management and the PCB for their defensive mindset. He also criticised PCB's move to create flat pitches for the series which ended up backfiring for the hosts. The former Pakistan pacer was all praise for Cummins and the Australian team for being brave and putting up a fight in the series.

"Absolutely disappointing series, this. Absolute nonsense. The mindset of both, the Pakistan Cricket Board and probably the team management was to draw this series. Neither should they win, nor us; just end this series in a draw," Akhtar said in a video on his official YouTube channel.

"But hats off to Australians. I'm genuinely happy for them. This is not their home, none of these players played in Pakistan before; they came here and play brave cricket. The bowlers didn't know when the ball reverses in such conditions but both, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins put in the hard hours to learn the skills of the trade here. Nathan Lyon, who hasn't toured Pakistan yet, took a five-wicket haul," he went on.

After a drawn first Test in Rawalpindi, Australia came close to clinching the second Test in Karachi but Pakistan were saved by a brilliant batting effort from captain Babar Azam and Rizwan. The two teams headed into the final third Test with the series at 0-0 and it was Australia, who managed to come out on top.

Batting first, Australia rode on half-centuries from Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Alex Carey and Cameron Green to post a big total of 391 runs on the board. The visitors then bundled out Pakistan for 268 runs in their first innings to gain a healthy lead and declared their second innings on 227/3.

While many expected Pakistan to comfortably pull off a draw once again, Australian bowlers ran the show and skittled out the hosts on 235 runs to wrap up a thrilling win. Akhtar slammed the PCB and the Pakistan team for defensive mindset in the series and urged for a change in personnel in the Pakistan Cricket Board.

× Also Read: Pat Cummins joins elite list of Australian captains after visitors clinch Test series vs Pakistan in Lahore After a drawn first Test in Rawalpindi, Australia came close to clinching the second Test in Karachi but Pakistan were saved by a brilliant batting effort from captain Babar Azam and Rizwan. Absolute nonsense! Shoaib Akhtar lashes out at PCB and Babar Azam & Co. after defeat against Australia

The second and penultimate Test between Pakistan and Australia, in Karachi, went down to the wire as the Babar Azam-led hosts made a match out of it when play resumed on Day Five, with the score being 192 for 2 in pursuit of a daunting 506-run target. Riding on skipper Babar's impressive and gritty 196 and Mohammad Rizwan's 104 not out, Pakistan managed to give a scare to Pat Cummins-led Aussies before settling for a draw at 443-7.

After Babar's recent heroics, he has won hearts once again worldwide as his stature continues to rise with each passing day. Thus, former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal lavished huge praise on Babar and has placed him on the same level as Virat Kohli. Following his 196 versus Australia, many have raised voices that Babar deserves to enter the Fab Four batters in the modern era (comprising Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root and Steve Smith).

In this regard, Ajmal spoke highly of Babar and also lauded young guns such as Md Rizwan and speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi.

"Such players are very rare to grace an era. Such players are very rare. But having said that, what Babar Azam has achieved in the last year is worth appreciating," Ajmal told Cricket Pakistan.

"If you talk about bowlers… among spinner, Nathan Lyon has delivered impressive performances over the last five years. Among pacers, players like Shaheen Afridi, Mitchell Starc and Jasprit Bumrah have given match-winning performances," he further asserted.

'Greatest of this era are Virat Kohli, Babar Azam' - Former spinner heaps praise on Pakistan captain

Quick bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah picked up two wickets apiece on Monday to lead Pakistan's inspired performance against Australia on the first day of the deciding third and final test in Lahore.

Afridi, 21, did the early damage, striking twice in his second over to dismiss opener David Warner for seven and No. 3 Marnus Labuschagne before he had scored, to reduce Australia to 8-2 after they won the toss and opted to bat.

Naseem, 19, drafted into the Pakistan side in place of all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, hurt the tourists in the final session, dismissing a well-set Steve Smith for 59 and Travis Head for 26 as Australia reached 232-5 at close.

All-rounder Cameron Green was unbeaten on 20 for Australia with wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey eight not out.

After their shaky start, it was opener Usman Khawaja who led Australia's fightback with a resilient 91, adding to scores of 97, 160 and 44 not out in his last three innings in his country of birth.

The left-handed Khawaja, who added 136 for the third wicket with Smith, appeared set for his 12th test hundred before Pakistan captain Babar Azam completed a one-handed catch at slip off spinner Sajid Khan.

Khawaja said some deliveries from the spinners were already gripping and turning and he felt a first-innings total of close to 350 would be good for Australia.

"This one (wicket) is probably some of the toughest to score runs on," the 35-year-old told reporters, adding that he physically struggled during his knock on a hot day.

FIRST LAHORE TEST SINCE 2009 ATTACK

Smith, Australia`s batting mainstay, completed his third successive half-century before he was out leg before wicket to a straight delivery from Naseem.

The first two tests of the series -- the first between the sides in Pakistan since 1998 -- were drawn.

"The pitch was a bit slow and also kept a bit low," Naseem said. "Our first target is to dismiss Australia under 300. I think we will get a result on this pitch."

Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium was hosting a test match for the first time since the 2009 attack by gunmen on a bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team.

After left-armer Afridi's two early wickets, Australia could have been in even deeper trouble but Pakistan failed to capitalise on chances offered by Khawaja and Smith.

Looking to dominate left-arm spinner Nauman Ali from the onset, Khawaja, on 12, flashed hard at a full-pitched delivery but the edge flew under the hands of Babar Azam in the lone slip position.

On the next delivery, Nauman failed to hold a straightforward return catch from Smith, who was on 19. Off-spinner Sajid also spilled a return catch off Head when he was on seven.

One of the quickest bowlers in the history of cricket, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar used to terrorise the best of batters with sheer pace during his playing days. Akhtar holds the record for bowling the fastest delivery ever bowled in international cricket and was famously called the Rawalpindi Express by the fans and followers of the game.

Akhtar enjoyed some great on-field duels with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Brian Lara and Ricky Ponting among others during his playing days. Akhtar bowled one of his most fearsome spells against Ponting during the Perth Test between Australia and Pakistan in 1999. He later terrorised Ponting once again in the 2004-2005 Test series between the two sides.

After Pakistan lost two matches in the series, Akhtar wanted to go after the Aussie batters on the bouncy track in Perth and breathed fire with the ball against Ponting. Recalling his fiery spell to the former Australia captain, Akhtar recently said he wanted to test Ponting against his pace.

The former fast bowler also admitted he was furiously fast on the day and would have gone for the batter's head had it been someone else and not Ponting facing him. Akhtar had tried to unsettle the likes of Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer as well in the series and enjoyed verbal duels with them.

"I gave it to them. In the 2005 series, me and [Justin] Langer got into a fight. Me and [Matt] Hayden got into a fight. It's verbal, not physical. I wanted to display my talent [and show] that I am better than you," Akhtar told the Sydney Morning Herald.

There is a lot of action taking place in the longest format of the game and, hence, leading to rapid changes in the points table of the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship. After Babar Azam-led Pakistan's riveting draw versus Australia in the second and penultimate Test, in Karachi, there have been some changes in the overall standings.

Talking about the second Test, Pat Cummins-led Australia rode on Marnus Labuschagne's 160 to post 556-9 decl. after opting to bat first at the National Stadium, Karachi. In reply, Pakistan fell flat for 148, conceding a whopping 408-run lead in the process. Despite the humongous lead conceded, Babar-led Pakistan managed to draw the Test while chasing 506 in the fourth and final innings. Babar's 196 and Mohammad Rizwan's 104 not out led the home side to 443-7 when both sides settled for a draw on the final day's play. Following the enthralling battle, Australia and Pakistan remain at the top two positions, respectively, but there are some changes in PCT (i.e. Points won by a team / Points contested * 100).

After the Karachi Test, Pakistan skipper Babar said at the post-match presentation, "The plan was to bat session-by-session and build partnerships. It was a team effort, as others (Shafique and Rizwan) chipped in with useful contributions too. We took the onus and the main focus was to build partnerships right throughout the day. Rizwan was outstanding as he saved the Test for us eventually. We wanted to continue to bat in the same way (after the tea break) and we tried to be positive and play our shots. Meanwhile, Cummins stated, "I think so, I think we had enough overs, it was a pretty good wicket even on day 4 and day 5. We created a few chances, but we failed to grab them. Mitch Swepson was fantastic on debut, his figures don't do justice to the way he bowled. Nathan was impressive towards the end, as he always does on day 5. For an Australian team to bat over two days at the start of a Test match, I don't think we've done that for a long time. Lots of positives from this match and so far in the series. The way we batted was fantastic, the way we hunted and took those wickets on day 3 with reverse swing, that was brilliant as well. And we were always ahead in the game, so really proud of the boys."

More changes are expected in the WTC points table with the conclusion of the Pakistan-Australia Tests and the ongoing second and penultimate Test between hosts West Indies and England.

"The matches are being shifted to Lahore because of political activities in the capital," Pakistan's Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said at a news conference on Friday. Babar Azam's 196 and Mohammad Rizwan's 104* helped Pakistan prevent Australia from registering a memorable win in the second and penultimate Test at the National Stadium, Karachi on Wednesday (March 16). Babar's century had set up the match at stumps on Day 4, with Pakistan 192-2 in pursuit of a mammoth 506-run target.

Babar carried on from where he had left, on the penultimate day, when he came out to bat on Day Five. The right-hander showed grit, character, class and patience to take his side to a hard-earned draw with an impressive and career-best 196-run knock. While he fell with in excess of 12 overs to go in the day's play, Md Rizwan rescued the hosts and denied Pat Cummins & Co. from taking a 1-0 lead.

He surpassed England's Michael Artherton's 185, versus South Africa in 1995, to attain the historic record. Before him, Younis Khan held the record for the highest score by a Pakistan skipper in the final innings (107 versus India in 2007).

Babar Azam scripts history, achieves elite feat during marathon 196-run knock in 2nd Test vs Australia

Pakistan and Australia played out a humdinger of a clash in the just-concluded second and penultimate Test at the National Stadium, Karachi on Wednesday (March 16). After Day 4 ended with Pakistan at 192-2, in pursuit of a mammoth 506-run target set by Pat Cummins & Co., Babar Azam stood tall from one end to prevent a memorable win for the visitors with an impressive 196-run knock in Karachi. After Babar fell with over 12 overs remaining in the final day's play, Mohammad Rizwan's 104 not out propelled Pakistan to 443-7 as both sides settled for a draw with the series scoreline still reading 0-0.

Courtesy Babar's lengthy stay in the middle, Pakistan managed to escape from the jaws of a defeat after conceding a big first-innings lead. Babar batted for over 400 deliveries and registered the highest score by a captain in the final innings of a Test match. With a terrific draw, courtesy Babar, Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique (96), Pakistan created history and became only the second team to bat over 1,000 deliveries (1,030) in the fourth and final innings for a draw.

The first instance came during England's timeless Test in Durban, versus South Africa, in 1939. That match went on for as many as 10 days and had to be stopped as the English team would've missed the boat for home. Back then, England were 654/5 in chase of 696 in 218.2 overs (1,746) when the match ended in a draw.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan become second team to achieve historic feat after drawn Test vs Australia

Australia have dominated the proceedings in the ongoing second Test against Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi. After posting a mammoth total of 556 runs on the board in their first innings, Australia piled more misery on Pakistan as they bundled out the hosts for a paltry 148 runs.

Australian bowlers wreaked havoc against the Pakistani batting line-up on Day 3 of the Test match on Monday. Skipper Babar Azam top-scored for Pakistan with 36 runs off 79 balls but failed to find support from the other end as the hosts crumbled like a pack of cards in their first innings.

After skittling them out for 148, Australia decided to continue with their second innings and didn't enforce the follow-on on the visitors. In what had been a disappointing day for Pakistan, pacer Shaheen Afridi brought smiles to the face of the home fans as he bowled a brilliant delivery to clean up Marnus Labuschagne in Australia's second innings on Day 3.

Afridi bowled an absolute ripper to break the off-stump and send Labuschagne packing. The off-stump was sent cartwheeling, however, the lower part of it remained on the ground. Australia declared their second innings on 97/2 after Labuschagne's dismissal.

With the declaration on 97, Australia set up a huge target of 506 runs for the hosts. Pakistan lost opener Imam-ul-Haq cheaply on just 1 off 18 balls early in their second innings before Azhar Ali was dismissed by Cameron Green on 6. The hosts were reduced to 21/2 inside the first 23 overs as another batting collapse appeared likely in their second innings.

However, captain Babar Azam then combined with opener Abdullah Shafique to post an unbeaten stand of over hundred runs for the third wicket and steady the ship for Pakistan. The duo has notched up half-centuries apiece and will be hoping to take Pakistan closer to the victory line with a huge target to scale.

'100/7 must be entertaining': Shoaib Akhtar takes a dig at Babar & Co. as Pakistan collapse against Australia

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its chief Ramiz Raja for the poor quality of the pitches in the ongoing Test series between Pakistan and Australia. The pitches used so far in the three-match series have been under the scanner for being too flat and assisting the batters.

The pitch used in the first Test between Pakistan and Australia in Rawalpindi was criticised by many as only 14 wickets fell over the course of five days. The International Cricket Council (ICC) later rated the pitch below-par with several former cricketers also lashing out at the PCB for the poor quality of the track.

Former Pakistan skipper Akram too aimed a dig at the PCB chief over the poor quality of pitches in Pakistan and said he knew the Rawalpindi Test was going to end in a draw after just two deliveries were bowled in the match. Akram said during his playing days only the captain decided what sort of pitches were required by the team and no president used to interfere in such matters.

“During our time it only depended on what kind of pitch the captain wanted, I don't remember any chairman or any official asking us that the pitch should be prepared in a particular way. These two Test matches I tried to watch it but I couldn't," Arkam said while speaking at an event.

"As an ex-fast bowler, I knew this would be a draw match after the second delivery of the match. When West Indies used to come back in our days, when Imran Khan was the captain, we used to make slow pitches,” he added.

The former Pakistan pacer further elaborated on how slow pitches should be made. He insisted that if a team is opting for a slow track, they should ensure it has turn on it for the game to have a result at the end of the five days. Akram said the ongoing Test series between Pakistan and Australia has been boring to watch for him.

“There is a method to making slow tracks. If you want to do that, on the basis of technicality, you roll the centre less and leave the area around the front foot a little dry so that the ball turns from day 1. If you want to make slow pitches at least make it a turner so that we get a result-oriented match. I hope they learn from it whoever is making the pitches. It is quite boring to be honest,” he added.

Australia have dominated Pakistan so far in the second Test as the visitors have already crossed the 400-run mark in their first innings after a brilliant century from Usman Khawaja.

The Pakistan-born Australian opener played a sublime knock of 160 runs off 369 deliveries laced with 15 fours and a solitary six to set the stage for a big total for his side. Khawaja was well complimented by the likes of Steve Smith (72) and Alex Carey, who also notched up a half-century is currently unbeaten out in the middle.

As Pakistan bowlers struggled to take wickets on Day and Day 2 of the second Test in Karachi, legendary pacer Younis questioned the hosts' tactics. While speaking on commentary, Younis said it felt like Pakistan were playing for a draw right from Day 1 of the second Test and that their tactics have been 'ridiculous'.

"The tactics I'm seeing at the moment is like we're looking for a draw on the first day. It's ridiculous," Younis said on commentary as he slammed Pakistan.

Khawaja and other Aussie batters dominated the proceedings on Day 1 of the Karachi Test as the left-hander's hundred guided the visitors to 251/3 at stumps. Khawaja continued from where he had left on Day 3 and added a 54-run stand for the fourth wicket with Nathan Lyon (38) before adding another 43 runs for the fifth wicket with Travis Head (23).

After Khawaja's dismissal, half-centurion Carey combined with Cameron Green (28) for a 45-run stand for the seventh wicket to take Australia past the 400-run mark. The visitors are in a strong position in the game and will be looking to bowl out Pakistan quickly once they invite the hosts to bat in their first innings.

Former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed has heaped praise on Shaheen Afridi and said the left-arm fast bowler reminds him of former captain Imran Khan. Afridi recently led his side Lahore Qalandars to a memorable triumph in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022. Lahore defeated Multan Sultans in the final to lift their maiden PSL trophy.

Afridi earned applause from all corners for his remarkable leadership qualities as he led the side by example. The fast bowler delivered consistent performances with the ball and led the side extremely well to help them lift the PSL trophy. Javed, who is the head coach of Lahore Qalandars in the PSL, made a bold claim backing Afridi to become Pakistan's future captain.

Afridi, who is one of the best young pacers in the world at present, has already played 22 Tests and 28 ODIs for Pakistan and has become an integral member of the squad across all formats. He has also shown his leadership skills in the PSL and is touted to have a promising future ahead.

Javed, who has observed Afridi's growth from close quarters being his head coach at Lahore Qalandars, said the left-arm pacer has natural leadership qualities and reminds him of Imran Khan. He expects Afridi to take over Pakistan's captaincy responsibilities from current skipper Babaz Azam in the future.

“Shaheen has natural leadership talent and this is something we figured out two years ago. This is why we promoted him as vice-captain. I personally don’t think that age has any factor when it comes to leadership. For a captain, it is important to be committed and honest; these two things are present in Shaheen in abundance,” Javed told Cricket Pakistan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been facing criticism from all corners for the quality of pitch offered in the recently-concluded first Test between the hosts and Australia at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. The flat track at the stadium sparked a run-fest as the two teams managed to pick up only 14 wickets through the course of five days.

Several former cricketers including the likes of Inzamam-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt among others criticised the PCB for the kind of pitch that was offered. The International Cricket Council (ICC) also branded the Rawalpindi track as 'below-average'.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has also slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board over the pitch fiasco in the Rawalpindi Test and has said the board is not doing a great job in marketing the series. Australia are touring Pakistan for the first time in 24 years and are the first major side to tour the country in recent times.

Latif believes PCB should be marketing the series in a better way to attract a global audience and other major teams to Pakistan. However, the former Pakistan skipper believes the pitch fiasco has harmed Pakistan cricket.

“This series is different. This is not a series that we're playing for winning. This is a series we are playing to market ourselves. Even if it goes 3-0, I would want that a Rs 100 product is marketed as Rs 150 product. But in the Rawalpindi Test, we sold a Rs 100 product for Rs 5, and it harmed our cricket,” Latif said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“Australia sent their no.1 team after 24 years, they're coming straight after beating England 4-0. Their batters are in their top-10 in the rankings, so are their bowlers. We would've wanted to play good cricket, winning or losing is a different thing. We would've wanted to attract people around the world,” he added.

After a disappointing first Test which ended in a draw, Pakistan and Australia will lock horns in the second Test of the three-match series at the National Stadium in Karachi. The Aussies will hope for a better pitch in Karachi to continue their domination against the Men in Green in the longest format.

Women's World Cup: South Africa hold nerves to win last-over thriller against Pakistan

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been facing flak from all corners for the sub-standard in Rawalpindi for the recently-concluded first Test between the hosts and Australia. The first Test between the two sides ended in a draw with just 14 wickets falling over the course of the five days as none of the teams managed to churn out a result.

Batting first, Pakistan posted a huge total of 476/4 in their first innings of the Test match before Australia responded with a total of 459 runs in their first innings. Pakistan then went on to score 252 runs without losing a wicket in their second innings as the Test match ended in a draw.

Both the Pakistani and Australian bowlers struggled to pick wickets at regular intervals as batters enjoyed a field day on the flat track in Rawalpindi. In an honest assessment of the pitch after the drawn game, PCB chief Ramiz Raja admitted the game was not a good advertisement for Test cricket.

"A drawn match is never a good advertisement for Test cricket, and I totally understand that we need to get a result in five days these days, and we get it 90% [of the time], but I want to remind you of 2-3 things," Raja said in a video message posted on YouTube.

The PCB chief then went on to explain that the board has already identified the need to revive pitches across Pakitan and the work for the same has already begun. Raja also clarified that the board could not have offered a pace and bounce-friendly track for the very first Test as it would have meant the Aussies would have had the advantage.

"First of all, a number of headlines were in relation to the comments I made when I took over [as chairman] that pitches in Pakistan need to be redone, massively redone, but I took over in September and the season had already begun," said Raja.

"It takes 5-6 months to prepare pitches, and during the off-season, you will see - soil is coming from Australia; we've experimented, consulted soil experts and prepared soils, and we will redo 50-60 pitches all over Pakistan once our season ends in March-April.

"I understand the frustration of the fans - undoubtedly it would have been very good if we had a result, but this is a three-Test series, and we need to understand that a lot of cricket still remains to be played. Just for the heck of it, we can't prepare a fast pitch or a bouncy pitch and put the game in Australia's lap," he added.

'Understand fans' frustration': Ramiz Raja reacts as PCB gets slammed for 'flat' pitch in Rawalpindi Test

Australia commenced their tour of Pakistan, after a long gap of 24 years, with the first Test at Rawalpindi, which got underway on March 04. After Babar Azam-led Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first to declare at 476-4, Australia had to ensure they batted well on the moving day, i.e. Day 3, of the first Test on Sunday (March 06).

Marnus Labuschagne led the charge for the Pat Cummins-led visitors, after a 156-run opening stand between half-centuries David Warner and Usman Khawaja, to take the team total forward on Day 3 with No. 4 batter Steve Smith. During his 158-ball 90-run knock, the No. 1 Test batter Labuschagne coped up with a blow while trying to sweep a delivery from spinner Nauman Ali but the vicious delivery ended up hitting him on his right arm. Thus, keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan saw Labuschagne getting hit and came to his aid at one go.

PCB's official Twitter handle also shared the clip of Rizwan's gesture and wrote, "Rizwan is more than happy to help." Here's the video of Rizwan's appreciable gesture for the No. 1 Test batter Labuschagne:

Australian cricket team's tour of Pakistan is under threat after a deadly blast at a mosque in Pakistan's Peshawar killed over 50 people and left many injured on Friday (March 04). The attack took place at Jamia mosque in Qissa Khwani bazaar area of Peshawar when worshippers inside were offering Friday prayers.

The attack has taken place on the first day of the first Test match between Pakistan and Australia in Rawalpindi, which is less than 200 kilometres away from Peshawar. As per AFP, at least 50 people have been killed while many others have been injured in the attack.

As per an eyewitness, an attacker entered the mosque and 'opened fire' on worshippers inside, killing them 'one by one'. He then went on to blow himself up resulting in more deaths. Cricket Australia (CA) has been left alarmed after the attack and is reportedly monitoring the tour situation.

As per a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, Cricket Australia is in contact with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade after the blast. However, it is unlikely that the ongoing tour of the Australian cricket team will be majorly affected by the terror attack.

Nonetheless, it is a concerning situation for CA despite the squad having been offered presidential-style security for the entire tour. Australia had arrived in Islamabad last week ahead of the start of their full-fledged tour of Pakistan, the country's first in 24 years.

Australia are in Pakistan for a three-match Test series followed by as many ODIs and a one-off T20I game. While the Test matches will be played in Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore, the ODIs and T20I will all be played in Rawalpindi. The Australian team is the first major team to tour Pakistan since the terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team's bus in Lahore in 2009.

Following the attack on the Sri Lankan team's bus, all major nations had retained from touring Pakistan. However, international cricket has started returning back to the country in the last few years. It will come as a huge setback for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) if the ongoing tour of Australia is derailed due to the bomb blast in Peshawar.

Australia tour of Pakistan in jeopardy? CA monitoring situation after Peshawar mosque blast

Australia batsman Steve Smith said on Tuesday the players felt "incredibly safe" on their first tour of Pakistan in nearly 25 years, despite spinner Ashton Agar receiving a death threat via social media just days before the start of the first Test. Agar was warned against travelling to Pakistan, though the threat was dismissed following an investigation by the boards of Pakistan and Australia and government security agencies.

Cricket Australia said extensive security plans were in place for such social media activity and that the threat was "not considered a risk". Smith said the team trusted the security arrangements in place. "We`re aware of social media and the unfortunate events that can occur on platforms," he told reporters ahead of the first test, which starts on Friday in Rawalpindi. "We`ve got a lot of people working here with us, we trust our security and we`re feeling incredibly safe in Pakistan." Top teams have largely shunned Pakistan since an attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore in 2009 that killed six policemen and two civilians.

International sides have recently started touring Pakistan again but in September New Zealand returned home after abruptly abandoning a tour minutes before the opening game in Rawalpindi following a government security alert. England followed suit three days later, withdrawing their men`s and women`s teams from a tour in October citing the "mental and physical well-being" of players.

Smith said that he was relishing the challenge of playing in Pakistan. "It`s great to be back here and playing cricket," he said. "It`s the first time a lot of us have been here and we`re excited. We know how passionate Pakistanis are about cricket."

Smith sustained a concussion in a match against Sri Lanka in Sydney last month, slamming his head to the ground after falling over the boundary rope but the 32-year-old said he had progressed well. "It`s the first session back for me facing fast bowling. I`m recovering from the concussion and I`ve faced some side-arm and spinners," Smith said.

"The head has progressed really well the last few days. I`m feeling in a good space, done a lot of stuff where I`ve got my heart rate up to a good amount and brought it down ... all part of the protocols of getting back to playing."
