Quick bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah picked up two wickets apiece on Monday to lead Pakistan's inspired performance against Australia on the first day of the deciding third and final test in Lahore.

Afridi, 21, did the early damage, striking twice in his second over to dismiss opener David Warner for seven and No. 3 Marnus Labuschagne before he had scored, to reduce Australia to 8-2 after they won the toss and opted to bat.

Naseem, 19, drafted into the Pakistan side in place of all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, hurt the tourists in the final session, dismissing a well-set Steve Smith for 59 and Travis Head for 26 as Australia reached 232-5 at close.

All-rounder Cameron Green was unbeaten on 20 for Australia with wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey eight not out.

After their shaky start, it was opener Usman Khawaja who led Australia's fightback with a resilient 91, adding to scores of 97, 160 and 44 not out in his last three innings in his country of birth.

The left-handed Khawaja, who added 136 for the third wicket with Smith, appeared set for his 12th test hundred before Pakistan captain Babar Azam completed a one-handed catch at slip off spinner Sajid Khan.

Khawaja said some deliveries from the spinners were already gripping and turning and he felt a first-innings total of close to 350 would be good for Australia.

"This one (wicket) is probably some of the toughest to score runs on," the 35-year-old told reporters, adding that he physically struggled during his knock on a hot day.

Smith, Australia`s batting mainstay, completed his third successive half-century before he was out leg before wicket to a straight delivery from Naseem.

The first two tests of the series -- the first between the sides in Pakistan since 1998 -- were drawn.

The upcoming three-match ODI series between Pakistan and Australia has been moved from Rawalpindi to Karachi due to 'political reasons. Pakistan's Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad confirmed the development in a news conference on Friday (March 18). The Australian team is currently in Pakistan for their first tour of the country in 24 years.

Australia are in Pakistan for a full-fledged tour consisting of three Tests, as many ODIs and a one-off T20I game. The first instance came during&nbsp;England's&nbsp;timeless Test in Durban, versus South Africa, in 1939. That match went on for as many as 10 days and had to be stopped as the English team&nbsp;would've missed the boat for home. Back then, England were 654/5 in chase of 696 in 218.2 overs (1,746) when the match ended in a draw.

After the match, Babar said at the post-match presentation, "The plan was to bat session-by-session and build partnerships. It was a team effort, as others (Shafique and Rizwan) chipped in with useful contributions too. We took the onus and the main focus was to build partnerships right throughout the day. Rizwan was outstanding as he saved the Test for us eventually. We wanted to continue to bat in the same way (after the tea break) and we tried to be positive and play our shots. The team needed this knock, so I tried to bat for as long as I could."

Meanwhile, Cummins stated, "I think so, I think we had enough overs, it was a pretty good wicket even on day 4 and day 5. We created a few chances, but we failed to grab them. Mitch Swepson was fantastic on debut, his figures don't do justice to the way he bowled. Nathan was impressive towards the end, as he always does on day 5. For an Australian team to bat over two days at the start of a Test match, I don't think we've done that for a long time. Lots of positives from this match and so far in the series. The way we batted was fantastic, the way we hunted and took those wickets on day 3 with reverse swing, that was brilliant as well. And we were always ahead in the game, so really proud of the boys."

The pitch used in the first Test between Pakistan and Australia in Rawalpindi was criticised by many as only 14 wickets fell over the course of five days. The International Cricket Council (ICC) later rated the pitch below-par with several former cricketers also lashing out at the PCB for the poor quality of the track.

Former Pakistan skipper Akram too aimed a dig at the PCB chief over the poor quality of pitches in Pakistan and said he knew the Rawalpindi Test was going to end in a draw after just two deliveries were bowled in the match. Akram said during his playing days only the captain decided what sort of pitches were required by the team and no president used to interfere in such matters.

“During our time it only depended on what kind of pitch the captain wanted, I don't remember any chairman or any official asking us that the pitch should be prepared in a particular way. These two Test matches I tried to watch it but I couldn't," Arkam said while speaking at an event.

He insisted that if a team is opting for a slow track, they should ensure it has turn on it for the game to have a result at the end of the five days. “There is a method to making slow tracks. If you want to do that, on the basis of&nbsp;technicality, you roll the centre less and leave the area around the front foot a little dry so that the ball turns from day 1. If you want to make slow pitches at least make it a turner so that we get a result-oriented match. I hope they learn from it whoever is making the pitches. It is quite boring to be honest,” he added.

Khawaja and other Aussie batters dominated the proceedings on Day 1 of the Karachi Test as the left-hander's hundred guided the visitors to 251/3 at stumps. Khawaja continued from where he had left on Day 3 and added a 54-run stand for the fourth wicket with Nathan Lyon (38) before adding another 43 runs for the fifth wicket with Travis Head (23).

Batting first, Pakistan posted a huge total of 476/4 in their first innings of the Test match before Australia responded with a total of 459 runs in their first innings. Pakistan then went on to score 252 runs without losing a wicket in their second innings as the Test match ended in a draw.

Both the Pakistani and Australian bowlers struggled to pick wickets at regular intervals as batters enjoyed a field day on the flat track in Rawalpindi. In an honest assessment of the pitch after the drawn game, PCB chief Ramiz Raja admitted the game was not a good advertisement for Test cricket.&nbsp;

"A drawn match is never a good advertisement for Test cricket, and I totally understand that we need to get a result in five days these days, and we get it 90% [of the time], but I want to remind you of 2-3 things," Raja said in a video message posted on YouTube.

The PCB chief then went on to explain that the board has already identified the need to revive pitches across Pakitan and the work for the same has already begun. Raja also clarified that the board could not have offered a pace and bounce-friendly track for the very first Test as it would have meant the Aussies would have had the advantage.

"First of all, a number of headlines were in relation to the comments I made when I took over [as chairman] that pitches in Pakistan need to be redone, massively redone, but I took over in September and the season had already begun," said Raja.

"I understand the frustration of the fans - undoubtedly it would have been very good if we had a result, but this is a three-Test series, and we need to understand that a lot of cricket still remains to be played. Just for the heck of it, we can't prepare a fast pitch or a bouncy pitch and put the game in Australia's lap," he added.

As per an eyewitness, an attacker entered the mosque and 'opened fire' on worshippers inside, killing them 'one by one'. He then went on to blow himself up resulting in more deaths.&nbsp;Cricket Australia (CA) has been left alarmed after the attack and is reportedly monitoring the tour situation.

As per a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, Cricket Australia is in contact with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade after the blast. However, it is unlikely that the ongoing tour of the Australian cricket team will be majorly affected by the terror attack.

Nonetheless, it is a concerning situation for CA despite the squad having been offered presidential-style security for the entire tour. Australia had arrived in Islamabad last week ahead of the start of their full-fledged tour of Pakistan, the country's first in 24 years.

Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain has been banned from bowling and withdrawn from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after his bowling action was found to be illegal, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Friday.

Hasnain was first reported during his Big Bash League stint with the Sydney Thunder last month and is set to miss Pakistan`s home series against Australia next month.

Biomechanical testing in Lahore confirmed the 21-year-old breached the 15-degree limit for elbow extension on his "good length delivery, full-length delivery, slow bouncer and bouncer", the PCB said in a statement.

"Keeping his future and Pakistan`s interest at the forefront, the PCB ... has decided he will not be allowed to continue to participate in the Pakistan Super League," it said.

"Until Mohammad Hasnain clears his reassessment, he will remain suspended from bowling in international cricket." 
The PCB described the bowler as an "asset" citing his ability to bowl consistently at 145 kmph and was optimistic of his return to the game after remodelling his action.

"The PCB has discussed the report with its own bowling experts and is confident that the problem can be resolved."

"He will use this time to work with the PCB-appointed bowling consultant to modify his bowling action so that he can apply for a reassessment and become eligible to return to international cricket as quickly as practically possible."
