The Pakistan Cricket Board recently found itself at the receiving end of a significant amount of hate and flak from former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez. He slammed the national board for the time that they took to effectively deal with ace pacer Shaheen Afridi's injury.

The Shaheens' bowling order was recently dealt an extremely tough blow after their star bowler was ruled out of active contention due to a knee injury that he sustained while fielding back in July during the first Test against Sri Lanka.

A lot has been said of Afridi, who has since been shackled to the sidelines, and the rate of his recovery. Owing to the fateful injury, Afridi was forced to miss out on the second Test against Sri Lanka, the subsequent series against the Netherlands, and the ongoing Asia Cup tournament. On Monday, the board revealed that Shaheen was London-bound to receive further medical attention to fast-track his road to recovery.

Discussing Afridi's recovery in a video that he recently shared on social media, Hafeez was seen slamming the board for failing to seek the appropriate medical intervention and rehabilitation at the moment the extent of his injury was revealed.

"The things that I read and heard over the last few days, there was an official post. So this time period of 4 weeks or 6 weeks or 8 weeks - since the time he got injured, I think wasting this time is a criminal act," he asserted.

The teenage bowling sensation Naseem Shah recorded an extremely successful T20I debut in one of the most enthralling matches that the Men in Green could play. Shah was credited with the wickets of ace batsman KL Rahul and veteran Ravindra Jadeja, thoroughly impressing fans with his pace and control.

The Rawalpindi-based Mohammad Nawaz, on the other hand, managed to etch his name in international cricketing folklore as he walked away from the match after having scalped three wickets.

"Our only game plan was to take the game as deep as possible. Naseem Shah bowled very well and took crucial wickets for the team. Unfortunately, we couldn't finish but I think Nawaz should be given credit for performing well in the pressure game.

Babar Azam reveals Pakistan's gameplan to outclass India, hails new-comer Naseem Shah for performance

India and Pakistan locked horns with each other in the Asia Cup 2022 edition on Sunday (August 28), at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai -- the venue where both had last met during the 2021 T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma-led India opted to bowl first and rode on Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4/26 and Hardik Pandya's 3-fer to dismiss Babar Azam-led Pakistan for 147 in 19.5 overs. In a topsy-turvy chase, India emerged on top in a last-over thriller courtesy of Hardik's 17-ball 33* and Ravindra Jadeja's vital 35.

India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2022 live score and updates:

11:45 PM IST: Hardik Pandya has done it! The all-rounder smacks a nonchalant six off the 4th ball of the 20th over from Mohammad Nawaz to take India over the line in style. What a run chase and what a win for the Indian team. They looked in a tricky position at one stage but Hardik's brilliance manage to steer them through. India beat Pakistan by 5 wickets to get off to a winning start. India - 148/5 (19.4 overs)

11:37 PM IST: Hardik Pandya the game-changer for India here. He slams three boundaries off the last 4 balls of the 19th over from Haris Rauf to get 14 runs off the over and bring the equation down to 7 required off the last over. It is pretty much India's game to lose now. India - 141/4 (19 overs)

11:30 PM IST: Naseem Shah with the 18th over and starts with a wide. Jadeja smacks the next one for a four before the young pacer bowls back-to-back dot balls. Shah hits Jadeja on the pads but the ball was pitching outside leg. Shah is struggling due to the hot weather in Dubai as lies on the ground with two balls left in his spell. Jadeja smokes a six and misses the next as India take 11 off the over. India - 127/4 (18 overs).

11:20 PM IST: 9 runs for India off the 17th over from Haris Rauf. Hardik and Jadeja need to take off from here as the duo are clearly struggling to middle the ball. 32 runs needed off the final three overs. This is going down the wire. India - 116/4 (17 overs)

11:10 PM IST: India are struggling a bit here as the equation gets tougher with every passing over. 10 runs off the 16th over for India but the pressure is on Hardik and Jadeja, who are out in the middle. 41 runs required off the last four overs now. India - 107/4 (16 overs)

10:59 PM IST: Naseem Shah comes in clutch for Pakistan as he dispatches Suryakumar Yadav, picking up his second wicket of the night. Impressing fans with his mental fortitude and athletic prowess, Shah paves the way for Hardik Pandya to make his way onto the pitch. India- 89/4 (14 overs)

10:52 PM IST: Pakistan call for a review after suspicions of Shahnawaz Dahani's ball making contact with Ravindra Jadeja's bat before making its way into Mohammad Rizwan's gloves. However, Jadeja escapes the review unscathed as officials declare there was no contact with the bat. India- 89/3 (13 overs)

10:39 PM IST: Shadab Khan with the 11th over for Pakistan. Suryakumar sweeps him for a boundary on the 4th ball to get 7 runs off the over. Both teams are still very much in this game with 79 runs required off 54 balls. India - 70/3 (11 overs)

10: 35 PM IST: Wicket! India lose Rohit and Kohli in quick succession. Kohli was looking in great touch but ended up going for a half-hearted stroke against Nawaz on the first ball of the tenth over to get caught. He departs for 35 as Suryakumar Yadav joins Ravindra Jadeja in the middle. 9 runs off the 10th over for India. India - 62/3 (10 overs)

10:25 PM IST: Wicket! Rohit Sharma miscues his shot and is caught by Iftikhar Ahmed off the bowling of Mohammad Nawaz on the final ball of the eighth over. It's a huge blow for India as Rohit departs on 12 off 18 balls. 9 runs off the 8th over. India - 50/2 (8 overs)

10:15 PM IST: Pakistan pacers have displayed a great exhibition of pace with all three - Naseem, Dahani and Rauf bowling in excess of 140 kph. However, Kohli has looked in great touch so far and has been rotating the strike well. 6 runs off the 5th over and 9 off the 6th. India - 38/1 (6 overs)

10:05 PM IST: Pakistan pacers have been brilliant so far in utilising the conditions and bowling at a good pace. Haris Rauf with the fourth over. Just 2 runs off the first four balls before Kohli takes on the short ball and gets a six off a thick edge. 8 runs off the over. India - 23/1 (4 overs)

10:00 PM IST: Naseem Shah with the third over for Pakistan and he continues with his impressive pace. The youngster has been easily clocking 140kph and looks in a great rhythm. 5 runs off the 3rd over for India. India - 15/1 (3 overs)

9:55 PM IST: Virat Kohli gets into the groove with a boundary off the fifth ball of the second over from Shahnawaz Dahani. 7 runs off the over for India as the nerves settle down a bit after a shaky start. India - 10/1 (2 overs)

9:48 PM IST: Wicket! Naseem Shah sends KL Rahul packing on a duck. A 142kph shortish delivery and Rahul edges it onto the stumps. A golden duck for the Indian opener as Pakistan get off to a dream start. Virat Kohli is the new man in. Brilliant start for Pakistan just 3 off the first over. India - 3/1 (1 over)

9:40 PM IST: We are all set for India's run-chase to get underway. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will open the batting for India and Naseem Shah takes the ball for Pakistan to kick off the proceedings.

9:30 PM IST: OUT! After some lusty blows from Dahani, Arshdeep gets it right with a full-length delivery to dismantle his stumps. Pakistan come close to the 150-run mark and have something to bowl at but will be a herculean task for them to stop India in a moderate run-chase. PAK 147 all-out in 19.5 overs

9:24 PM IST: Bhuvi ends with the best bowling figures by an Indian versus Pakistan. 4-0-26-4. SIMPLY SUPERB!!!

9:18 PM IST: Arshdeep, Bhuvi continue to strike for India in the end overs. Pakistan is desperate to take closer to the 150-run mark. It can be a tricky total -- despite India's superstar-batting line-up -- but even that looks like an improbable task for the Men in Green. PAK 128-8 in 18.2 overs

9:04 PM IST: Pakistan have lost the plot. Every time they looked to attack, they have lost wickets. Hardik's three consecutive strikes have dented Men in Green's progress. All hopes were on Shadab-Asif Ali but they have now lost the latter as well, to Bhuvi. Babar & Co. are certainly finding it tough to strike big with the Indian bowlers changing their pace and using the bouncers at will. PAK 112-6 (16.3 overs).

8:51 PM IST: OUT! Another quick delivery, hitting the seam right and followed the batsman. Good catch from Avesh at the third-man region as Pakistan lose Rizwan. Hardik strikes once again. India needed this right before the final five overs. PAK 96/4 (14.1 overs)

8:48 PM IST: We are heading into the final five overs. All eyes are on Rizwan. He is nearing a half-century. Although Pakistan will hope for him to better his strike rate considerably going ahead. Bhuvi and Arshdeep's remaining overs will be crucial. Fasten your seatbelts, we are in for a rapid end to the first half. PAK 96/3 (14)

8:42 PM IST: OUT! Pandya comes back into the attack and uses the short ball to get rid of the dangerman Iftikhkar. He was looking good in the partnership and was set to explode in the final overs. India continue to remain ahead. Will they close the first half in style? PAK 87-3 (12.1 overs)

8:38 PM IST: A huge six -- from Iftikhar -- followed by a dropped catch of his own bowling from Chahal. A dozen overs complete as Rizwan-Iftikhar get a move on. PAK 87-2 (12)

8:28 PM IST: India end the first ten overs by easily having the edge. Pakistan have struggled to break the shackles after losing captain Babar. Iftikhar has come out with a positive intent. Will be interesting to see who will be targetted by the Pakistani pair in the last ten overs. Anything below 150 won't be a challenging score for his batting-heavy Team India line-up. PAK 68-2 (10)

8:22 PM IST: The pitch is dry. Spinners have come into play from both ends -- with Chahal and Jadeja -- as Pakistan are struggling to get going. The surfaces in UAE are tricky and can test any batting side. Nonetheless, taking nothing away from Indian bowlers' discipline so far. PAK 63-2 (9)

8:16 PM IST: Rizwan in focus as Pakistan lose two quick wickets. Iftikar comes in as India introduces spin into the attack with Yuzi Chahal bowling the 8th over. PAK 51/2 (7)

8:06 PM IST: Avesh bowls the sixth over, the last of the powerplay. Rizwan took him on and got rewarded. Men in Green were on the move before the pacer removed Fakhar Zaman. The left-hander went for a cut and seemed to have edged it. He walked away as soon as the ball passed him. PAK 42-2 (5.5)

8:02 PM IST: Another brilliant over for India. Hardik troubles Rizwan with his movement and the right-hander isn't looking in his elements so far. Hardik concedes only seven runs in his first as PAK 30/1 (5)

8 PM IST: Bhuvi follows Nehraji!!!

7:54 PM IST: Plenty of dot balls from Bhuvi-Arshdeep as pressure piling up on Pakistan. Will be interesting to see how Rizwan goes about his business after losing Babar early. He added another boundary to his team's tally in the fourth over. Men in Green will need a special from him. PAK 23/1 (4)

7:48 PM IST: OUT! Bhuvi resorts to the bouncer and probably surprised Babar as the captain went for the pull, gets a top-edge to be caught by Arshdeep. Big wicket for Team India. PAK 15/1 in 2.4 overs

7:44 PM IST: A decent over from Arshdeep before another beautiful drive from Babar in the last ball of the second over. He is pleasing to the eye. Pakistan skipper looking good already. PAK 14/0 (2 overs)

7:32 PM IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar is always dangerous with the new ball. There was some movement on the first ball and he trapped Md Rizwan lbw on the very next delivery. The decision, however, went upstairs after the umpire signalled out. Rizwan carries on as the ball misses the off-side on height. It was followed by a beautiful drive from Babar and a DRS from India, leading to Rizwan surviving once again. Entertaining first over. PAK 6/0 (1)

7:25 PM IST: In Shaheen Afridi's absence, Pakistan have opted for a solid pace attack consisting of Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Shahnawaz Dahani. They also have three spin options but the middle-order looks thin.

7:15 PM IST: Some interesting selection calls from India. Rohit & Co. have dropped Rishabh Pant for in-form Dinesh Karthik depriving them of a left-hand option in the top five. India have also gone with three specialist pacers with Chahal and Jadeja as the two spinners.

7:05 PM IST: Here are the playing XIs of the two teams

Pakistan: Babar Azam(c), Mohammad Rizwan(w), Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Shahnawaz Dahani

India: Rohit Sharma(c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Dinesh Karthik(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh

7:00 PM IST: Toss! India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first.

6:55 PM IST: Rahul Dravid is back with the Indian squad after testing negative for COVID-19 and was spotted giving a pep talk to the players ahead of the big game.

6:50 PM IST: We are just a few minutes away from toss as players from both sides continue their warm-up ahead of the high-profile clash. The Dubai International Stadium is packed with fans from both countries as they wait to watch their heroes in action.

India - 116/4 (17 overs) 11:10 PM IST: India are struggling a bit here as the equation gets tougher with every passing over. 10 runs off the 16th over for India but the pressure is on Hardik and Jadeja, who are out in the middle. 41 runs required off the last four overs now. India - 107/4 (16 overs) 10:59 PM IST: Naseem Shah comes in clutch for Pakistan as he dispatches Suryakumar Yadav, picking up his second wicket of the night. Impressing fans with his mental fortitude and athletic prowess, Shah paves the way for Hardik Pandya to make his way onto the pitch. India- 89/4 (14 overs) 10:52 PM IST: Pakistan call for a review after suspicions of Shahnawaz Dahani's ball making contact with Ravindra Jadeja's bat before making its way into Mohammad Rizwan's gloves. However, Jadeja escapes the review unscathed as officials declare there was no contact with the bat. India- 89/3 (13 overs) 10:39 PM IST: Shadab Khan with the 11th over for Pakistan. Suryakumar sweeps him for a boundary on the 4th ball to get 7 runs off the over. Both teams are still very much in this game with 79 runs required off 54 balls. India - 70/3 (11 overs) 10: 35 PM IST: Wicket! India - 62/3 (10 overs) 10:25 PM IST: Wicket! Rohit Sharma miscues his shot and is caught by Iftikhar Ahmed off the bowling of Mohammad Nawaz on the final ball of the eighth over. It's a huge blow for India as Rohit departs on 12 off 18 balls. 9 runs off the 8th over. India - 50/2 (8 overs) 10:15 PM IST: Pakistan pacers have displayed a great exhibition of pace with all three - Naseem, Dahani and Rauf bowling in excess of 140 kph. However, Kohli has looked in great touch so far and has been rotating the strike well. 6 runs off the 5th over and 9 off the 6th. India - 38/1 (6 overs) 10:05 PM IST: Pakistan pacers have been brilliant so far in utilising the conditions and bowling at a good pace. Haris Rauf with the fourth over. Just 2 runs off the first four balls before Kohli takes on the short ball and gets a six off a thick edge. 8 runs off the over. India - 23/1 (4 overs) 10:00 PM IST: Naseem Shah with the third over for Pakistan and he continues with his impressive pace. The youngster has been easily clocking 140kph and looks in a great rhythm. 5 runs off the 3rd over for India. India - 15/1 (3 overs) 9:55 PM IST: Virat Kohli gets into the groove with a boundary off the fifth ball of the second over from Shahnawaz Dahani. 7 runs off the over for India as the nerves settle down a bit after a shaky start. India - 10/1 (2 overs) 9:48 PM IST: Wicket! India - 3/1 (1 over) 9:40 PM IST: We are all set for India's run-chase to get underway. PAK 147 all-out in 19.5 overs 9:24 PM IST: Bhuvi ends with the best bowling figures by an Indian versus Pakistan. PAK 128-8 in 18.2 overs 9:04 PM IST: Pakistan have lost the plot. PAK 96/4 (14.1 overs) 8:48 PM IST: We are heading into the final five overs. PAK 96/3 (14) 8:42 PM IST: OUT! Pandya comes back into the attack and uses the short ball to get rid of the dangerman Iftikhkar. He was looking good in the partnership and was set to explode in the final overs. India continue to remain ahead. Will they close the first half in style? PAK 87-3 (12.1 overs) 8:38 PM IST: A huge six -- from Iftikhar -- followed by a dropped catch of his own bowling from Chahal. A dozen overs complete as Rizwan-Iftikhar get a move on. PAK 87-2 (12) 8:28 PM IST: India end the first ten overs by easily having the edge. PAK 68-2 (10) 8:22 PM IST: The pitch is dry. Spinners have come into play from both ends -- with Chahal and Jadeja -- as Pakistan are struggling to get going. The surfaces in UAE are tricky and can test any batting side. Nonetheless, taking nothing away from Indian bowlers' discipline so far. PAK 63-2 (9) 8:16 PM IST: Rizwan in focus as Pakistan lose two quick wickets. Iftikar comes in as India introduces spin into the attack with Yuzi Chahal bowling the 8th over. PAK 51/2 (7) 8:06 PM IST: Avesh bowls the sixth over, the last of the powerplay. Rizwan took him on and got rewarded. Men in Green were on the move before the pacer removed Fakhar Zaman. The left-hander went for a cut and seemed to have edged it. He walked away as soon as the ball passed him. PAK 42-2 (5.5) 8:02 PM IST: Another brilliant over for India. Hardik troubles Rizwan with his movement and the right-hander isn't looking in his elements so far. Hardik concedes only seven runs in his first as PAK 30/1 (5) 8 PM IST: Bhuvi follows Nehraji!!! DYK? The last Indian bowler, before Bhuvneshwar Kumar, to claim a Pakistani wicket in T20Is was Ashish Nehra (of Shoaib Malik) in the WT20 match at Kolkata on 19 March 2016!#AsiaCup2022 #INDvPAK #PakvsInd — Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) August 28, 2022 × 7:54 PM IST: Plenty of dot balls from Bhuvi-Arshdeep as pressure piling up on Pakistan. Will be interesting to see how Rizwan goes about his business after losing Babar early. He added another boundary to his team's tally in the fourth over. Men in Green will need a special from him. PAK 23/1 (4) 7:48 PM IST: OUT! Bhuvi resorts to the bouncer and probably surprised Babar as the captain went for the pull, gets a top-edge to be caught by Arshdeep. Big wicket for Team India. PAK 15/1 in 2.4 overs 7:44 PM IST: A decent over from Arshdeep before another beautiful drive from Babar in the last ball of the second over. He is pleasing to the eye. Pakistan skipper looking good already. PAK 14/0 (2 overs) 7:32 PM IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar is always dangerous with the new ball. PAK 6/0 (1) 7:25 PM IST: In Shaheen Afridi's absence, Pakistan have opted for a solid pace attack consisting of Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Shahnawaz Dahani. 7:05 PM IST: Here are the playing XIs of the two teams Pakistan: Babar Azam(c), Mohammad Rizwan(w), Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Shahnawaz Dahani India: Rohit Sharma(c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Dinesh Karthik(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh 7:00 PM IST: Toss!

India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2022 HIGHLIGHTS: Hardik, Jadeja propel India to thrilling 5-wicket win

Pakistan brought an end to their losing streak against India in World Cup matches last year after thrashing the Men in Blue by ten wickets in the T20 World Cup 2021. Babar Azam & Co. produced a stunning all-round performance to outclass their arch-rivals and snap their 12-match losing streak.

India are all set to lock horns with Pakistan for the first time since the disappointing defeat in their Asia Cup 2022 opener in Dubai on Sunday (August 28). The arch-rivals will be looking to get the better of each other and get off to a winning start in what promises to be a blockbuster clash.

Ahead of the crucial encounter, Pakistan head coach Saqlain Mushtaq issued a warning to his team and advised them not to dwell on the past. Mushtaq said Pakistan can look back to their comprehensive 10-wicket victory at the T20 World Cup last year to seek positives but facing India at the Asia Cup this year is an entirely different challenge.

"You definitely look at the past to get some positives and understand what better you could have done. India might be thinking of revenge for their defeat last year. But as far as Pakistan is concerned, I think they will know that they can't dwell on the past and be over-excited as it is all about a new day and a new challenge that lies ahead," Mushtaq told Sportskeeda.

Both India and Pakistan will start the tournament as favourites having performed well in the Asia Cup over the year. While Pakistan are missing the services of pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, India will be without their best fast bowler in Jasprit Bumrah. Both teams will hope for youngsters to soak in the pressure and deliver in the high-profile game.

India have won on four occasions in the last five meetings against Pakistan in the Asia Cup and defeated the Men in Green by 5 wickets in the only T20I game between them in the tournament. Despite missing Bumrah, India have enough firepower in their line-up to outclass Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday.

'India might be thinking of revenge': Pakistan head coach issues warning to Babar & Co. ahead of India clash

The rivalry between Asian giants India and Pakistan transcends geographical borders. Cricket matches played between the two countries are some of the most high-octane affairs in international cricket.

Although the two countries often lock horns with each other in international tournaments like the ICC World Cup and the Asia Cup, it has been quite some time since they have competed with each other in bilateral series, owing to the tensions that exist between the neighbouring countries.

However, former Pakistan international Waqar Younis recently urged the countries to consider hosting bilateral series with each other owing to the hype that surrounds their matches. He offered fans some insight into the same while in conversation with the media.

"I am not saying that India and Pakistan should keep playing each other, that will end the charm of the rivalry. But the two teams must play bilateral."

He drew parallels between the Ashes and the matches played between India and Pakistan, admitting that the latter pipped the former when it came to the quality and marketability of the kind of cricket being played.

"I don't think that Ashes is the biggest rivalry on the planet. I don't think that the series in England are the top of the file. When India and Pakistan play, there is no better cricket than that. So I feel that once in a year or two years the two teams should play bilateral series," said Younis.

Fortunately for Younis, India and Pakistan will be butting heads with each other on numerous occasions over the course of 2022, owing to the schedules of international tournaments. However, the probability of the two countries engaging in bilateral series remains slim at this point in time.

India's Ravichandran Ashwin recently offered his take on Shaheen Afridi and his athletic prowess, claiming that he would fetch a hefty price if he participated in the IPL.

Afridi previously demolished India's India's top order to wreck their 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. However, the Men in Blue can breathe a sigh of relief as he has been ruled out of Pakistan's Asia Cup squad due to an injury.

Ashwin recently revealed how Pakistan's team will be affected by his absence as they get ready to kick off their Asia Cup campaign against arch-rivals India.

"Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf bowled well the last time we faced Pakistan, but it was Shaheen Afridi's opening burst that broke the game at the top. A major setback for them ahead of this game is Afridi's injury."

He subsequently offered fans some insight into Afridi's prospects in the IPL auction, claiming that he could have commanded a price of about 14-15 crores.

"I have thought a lot about how crazy it would have been if Shaheen Afridi had been there in an IPL auction. A tall left-arm seamer who sets the game with the new ball and also unleashes yorkers at the death. He might have gone for 14-15 crore had he been there at the IPL auction," said Ashwin.

Despite Afridi's absence, Ashwin believes The Shaheens have what it takes to offer any team in the tournament a run for their money. He further hailed the Men in Green as some of the most talented players in the world.

While discussing the same, he was asked about India's most recent match against their arch-rivals, which took place back in 2021 at the same venue where they are currently slated to compete in.

The Virat Kohli-led outfit was thoroughly outperformed by The Shaheens by 10 wickets in their ICC T20 World Cup clash. The loss marked India's first loss at the hands of Pakistan in a World Cup setting.

However, Sharma admitted that although the loss did affect team morale initially, they had learnt from the loss. Highlighting the importance of moving past the loss, he asserted that the Men in Blue are all set to avenge their fateful loss.

"Yes, that loss did hurt us but some time has passed since that game was played. So, for us, we have got another challenge in front of us now. There is no point thinking about that loss now.

'Enjoyed watching him bat'- Virat Kohli hails Babar Azam as the best batsman across all formats

India and Pakistan are set to resume their epic rivalry in the Asia Cup 2022 which gets underway in the UAE on Saturday (August 27). The arch-rivals will lock horns in a marquee clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. The buzz around the game is unreal as India and Pakistan are set to meet for the first time in 10 months.

As the Men in Blue gear up for the blockbuster clash, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was spotted catching up with a group of Pakistani fans, on the sidelines of Team India's training session in Dubai. Rohit was monitoring India's training session with the team's strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai when he decided to head towards the boundary rails and meet the Pakistani fans.

Rohit posed for pictures and shook hands with a couple of them before one fan requested him for a semi-hug. Despite the fence separating them, the Pakistan fan requested Rohit to virtually hug him from the other side and the Indian captain obliged. The heartwarming gesture left the fans in awe and the video of the incident went viral.

The Shaheens were recently dealt a major blow after another one of their top bowling prospects was ruled out of active contention after suffering an injury ahead of the forthcoming Asia Cup. In addition to losing their star pacer Shaheen Afridi to an injury, the Pakistan cricket team recently lost Mohammad Wasim Junior.

The Men in Green have suffered major setbacks even before they could set off on their Asia Cup campaign. Wasim, who previously pulled out of a training session, complaining of back pain, was effectively ruled out by the team's medical staff.

"The bowler was assessed by medical team staff, and MRI scan in Dubai confirmed the diagnosis. The findings were discussed with the PCB Medical Advisory Committee, while an independent review by a specialist physiotherapist was also sought.

"The medical team will closely monitor Wasim's rehabilitation and his return to competitive cricket will be reassessed before the England tour to Pakistan," said the statement that was released by the PCB.

In the aftermath of this unfortunate development, the selectors have called upon Hasan Ali to replace Wasim. One must note that, Ali's status in the tournament is still subject to review and approval from the Event Technical Committee.

Former Pakistan cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq recently commented on Ravichandran Ashwin's prowess in the white-ball format of cricket. Praising his versatility, Mushtaq admitted Ashwin should have returned to active contention in the Indian cricket team long ago.

India enjoyed a great variety of talent when it came to picking their playing squad for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. While a number of players have newly been selected to represent the country, there are some others who have returned to the fold after a significant amount of time.

"We don't want to hype this game too much. It's important to tell the players who haven't played against Pakistan or played them just one or two times that it's just another opposition," he told Star Sports.

'It's just another opposition' - Rohit Sharma downplays hype around India-Pakistan face-off in Asia Cup

Pakistan were dealt a huge blow when Shaheen Afridi injured himself during the first Test versus Sri Lanka last month. The left-arm pacer suffered a knee injury and, hence, has been ruled out of the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, set to get underway on August 27 in the UAE.

However, an injured Shaheen has travelled to the UAE for the Asian championship with the Babar Azam-led squad. Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson opened up in this regard and revealed the reason behind the 22-year-old's presence in the Pakistan squad.

"Babar wanted him to stay with the team. Management wants to closely monitor his injury rehab. He will be staying in Dubai itself with the team," PCB spokesperson confirmed to the local media in Pakistan.

1) Virat Kohli rallies team India to a glorious win- 2012

The Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur witnessed one of the most impressive performances from Kohli during the 2012 Asia Cup. Kohli, with his performance against Pakistan, proved why he was well on track to earning the title of the best batsman in the world.

Shortly after Gautam Gambhir tumbled out of the batting order in the first over, Kohli put out an absolutely stunning knock of 183 in just 148 balls to effectively etch his name in Asia Cup folklore as he helped India complete a daunting chase of 330.

Building on a sublime performance from Kohli, the Men in Blue went on to record a stunning six-wicket win with 13 balls to spare. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar bolstered the team's charge by putting out absolutely vital half-centuries.

While Harbhajan Singh's claim to fame was his bowling prowess, he put on an absolutely jaw-dropping performance against Pakistan at Dambulla, Sri Lanka, way back in 2010 during a last-over affair.

Although the game is often remembered for the heated interaction between Singh and Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar, the former impressed fans with his versatility as he wrapped up the game in style, smacking Mohammed Amir over midwicket for the maximum to hand India a 3-wicket victory against their arch-nemeses.

Top 3 most memorable India vs Pakistan matches in Asia Cup history

Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi's absence from the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 is a huge blow to Pakistan's chances in the tournament. However, his absence can be a huge relief to the opposition top-order batters, who would be relieved at the prospect of not having to face one of the most dangerous new-ball operators in the world at present.

Afridi can be lethal with the new white ball in hand and has been among the most prolific wicket-takers in the powerplay as far as white ball cricket is concerned. He has also been one of Pakistan's most consistent performers across formats and has proved to be a game-changer in several big matches.

However, Pakistan are set to miss his services in the Asia Cup as he has been ruled out due to an injury in his right knee. He has been advised 3-6 weeks of rest by the PCB medical team and playing him in the Asia Cup would have threatened his chances to recover fully ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 later this year.

Speaking about his absence, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris said the top order of every team should be high-fiving themselves as Afridi is a big miss for Pakistan. Lauding the Pakistan pacer, Styris said Afridi has all the attributes that one could seek in a good fast bowler.

"Every top order should be high-fiving themselves because he has every possible attribute that you could want in a fast bowler. He has height, he has the pace, he gets bounce, he has that ability to swing the ball, and he has the variation of being a left armer as well," Styris said during an interaction on Sports18.

"So, everything you would want from a fast bowler, he has it. So, I'm with you. I think that every top order in this competition, not just the Indian top order who are susceptible to the ball coming back, I think that they will be delighted that he isn't there and it gives them a greater chance of winning the tournament," he added.

22-year-old Afridi made his international debut for Pakistan in 2018 and has quickly gone on to establish his credentials as one of the best young pacers in the world at present. The southpaw had delivered a Man of the Match performance when Pakistan last met India at the T20 World Cup 2021 last year.

He wreaked havoc on the Indian top-order with the new ball to send back openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in quick succession before also bagging the prized wicket of Virat Kohli to finish with a three-wicket haul and set up Pakistan's 10-wicket win against India.

Pakistan are once again scheduled to open their Asia Cup campaign against India this year and will be hopeful of getting off to a winning start despite missing the services of their star pacer.

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain has replaced the injured Shaheen Shah Afridi for the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The 22-year-old Hasnain returned to cricket in June after remodelling his bowling action. He was suspended in February after being called by umpires during the BBL.

The right-arm fast bowler has taken 17 wickets in 18 T20s and played his last T20 against the West Indies at Karachi in December 2021.

Hasnain is representing the Oval Invincibles in the Hundred competition in England and will join the Pakistan team in the UAE.

During the Hundred competition, Australia's Marcus Stoinis mimicked Hasnain's bowling action with a throwing motion when he was walking back to the dugout after being caught by the fast bowler's short-pitched delivery.

Mohammad Hasnain replaces injured pacer Shaheen Afridi in Pakistan's squad for Asia Cup 2022

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi was recently asked by a fan to come out of retirement after pacer Shaheen Shah Aridi was ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 due to an injury. Shaheen sustained a knee injury during Pakistan's first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last month and has been advised 4-6 weeks rest and will not be seen in action in the premier tournament.

Shaheen's absence from Asia Cup 2022 has dealt a huge blow to Pakistan's chances in the tournament and has become a major taking point in the Pakistan cricket fraternity. Recently, during an interactive session on Twitter, a fan urged former Pakistan captain Afridi to come out of retirement to replace injured Shaheen.

Afridi, who is one of the greatest all-rounders to have played for Pakistan, came up with a hilarious response. Afridi revealed he had suggested Shaheen not to dive while fielding as he is a fast bowler but the fast bowler ditched his advice.

Shahid Afridi responds as fan asks him to come out of retirement to replace injured Shaheen in Asia Cup 2022

Pakistan have been dealt with a huge blow ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 as fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Afridi sustained a right knee ligament injury while playing in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka last month and has been advised 4-6 weeks rest by the Pakistan medical team.

His absence will be a big blow to Pakistan's chances in the tournament. Afridi has been a force to reckon with the ball across all three formats for the Men in Green and has been a prolific wicket-taker over the last couple of years. Afridi was the Man of the Match for Pakistan in their last meeting against India at the T20 World Cup 2021 last year.

He delivered a sensational spell with the new ball, sending back Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma in quick succession before accounting for the wicket of former India skipper Virat Kohli to set up a thumping ten-wicket win for Babar & Co. against their arch-rivals.

'Big relief for Indian batsmen': Pakistan legend on Shaheen Shah Afridi's injury ahead of Asia Cup 2022

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar believes the huge hype surrounding clashes between India and Pakistan made it difficult for the Men in Green to come out on top against their arch-rivals in World Cup matches. Akhtar recently spoke about the fierce rivalry between India and Pakistan while also explaining why the Men in Green have failed to impress against India in the World Cup.

India enjoy a dominant 12-1 record against Pakistan when it comes to World Cup matches having lost just once against them in ODI and T20 World Cups so far. India's first and only loss against Pakistan came during T20 World Cup 2021 when Babar Azam & Co. ended their losing streak.

Akhtar, who featured against India in as many as four World Cups, revealed Pakistan used to play against India under massive pressure in World Cup matches. The former fast bowler said the media was partially responsible for the hype as most players used to watch TV and would give in to the unnecessary hype.

“We, as (the) Pakistan team, used to play against India, why don’t you just play it as a normal match? We had come (into the 1999 World Cup) beating India in ODIs as well as Tests in their backyard. (It was) just the added pressure of the World Cup as well as the huge hype," Akhtar said on Star Sports.

“Pakistan team used to get pressurized by that hype. This hype was created by TV (media) and we all used to watch TV," he added.

Akhtar, who is one of the quickest bowlers to have graced the game, also went on to make a bold claim. The Rawalpindi Express said all Indian batters were scared of his pace during the 1999 World Cup clash between the two teams barring Sachin Tendulkar, who played him the best.

Pakistan have been handed a huge blow ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 as premier pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday (August 20) confirmed that Afridi will also miss the seven-match T20I series against England next month after sustaining a knee injury.

Afridi injured his right knee while playing in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last month. He is part of Pakistan's ongoing tour of the Netherlands but has not played for the team. The PCB said Afridi has been advised "four-six weeks rest" by the medical team.

Afridi's absence is a huge blow to Pakistan's chances at the Asia Cup 2022. The Babar Azam-led side will start the tournament as favourites alongside India but with Afridi not spearheading their pace attack, the Men in Green will have to bring out their 'A' game in the competition to go the distance.

Afridi was the wrecker-in-chief for Pakistan when Babar Azam & Co. thrashed India by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. Afridi ran through India's top-order dismissing Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul cheaply in quick succession to turn the match in Pakistan's favour.

His absence will be felt when Pakistan open their Asia Cup 2022 campaign against India in Dubai on August 28. Afridi has been one of the most consistent performers for Pakistan across formats along with captain Babar Azam in the last few years and remains a vital cog in the team.

Since being handed the captain`s role, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue have dominated teams across the T20I format and gained many plaudits for their performances.

Speaking on Star Sports show `Follow The Blues`, Team India captain Rohit Sharma detailed his captaincy mantra and how he and the squad handle pressure before marquee tournaments such as the Asia Cup 2022, "For me as a captain, it is very important that we create an environment for the players where they don`t feel that it`s a very high-pressure environment.

"We try and create (an environment) for the guys to come out in this team and try to have fun and enjoy each other`s company. Because I strongly feel that it`s important not to allow the pressure to creep in too much. When you`re playing, obviously, there will be pressure because when you are holding the ball in your hand, there is pressure on you as a bowler.

"When you`re batting in the middle, there is pressure, and that is what you have to handle on your own. The captain or coach or anyone, no one can do anything about it, but yourself. So, I think those aspects - Of course, it is your responsibility, but there are so many other factors that come into play and I feel I need to take care of it."

Rohit further spoke about his role as captain to build a rapport with every individual in the team and assist every individual to improve their performances, especially while going through rough patches.

He said, "When you know certain players are going through tough times, we try to give them a clear understanding of what`s happening. Making him understand what we expect from him, his role in this team, and all those kinds of things. So, I don`t go with any particular mantra when I play the game.

"Obviously, for me it`s just to quickly adapt to certain individuals and then understand what they need, what are their strong points, where they are weak, try and you know give them feedback and work with them; be very specific in what the team is expecting from that individual.

"That is where the individual can blossom because when we give them the clarity of what the team is expecting from you, I think he will be able to work towards that direction and he can work on his game in many ways and then improve his game as well. India and Pakistan will lock horns in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, on August 28. Over the years, both the Asian giants play each other only during ICC or multi-nation tournaments but the buzz and hype around every Indo-Pak clash remains extremely high.

Before Rohit Sharma's Team India and Babar Azam-led Pakistan lock horns in the Asia Cup, where they can meet each other thrice (including the final), former Indian opener Virender Sehwag recalled the two teams' 2003 ODI World Cup clash, held in Centurion.

Back then, the Sourav Ganguly-led Indian team were asked to chase a challenging 274 -- after Saeed Anwar's 101 -- and rode on Sachin Tendulkar's majestic 98, off 75 balls, and crucial knocks from Md Kaif, Rahul Dravid (44 not out) and Yuvraj Singh's unbeaten 50. However, Tendulkar had to fall back upon Sehwag to fill in as his runner due to Master Blaster's cramps. Recently, Sehwag revealed what happened when he joined Tendulkar-Rahul Dravid in the middle as the former's runner.

“We knew it was an important game. But Tendulkar was so experienced, he had played so many games against Pakistan.. he knew that he need to be prepared for it. If I have to consider his World Cup knocks, it was his best. I also came to run for him during the game because he was having cramps, and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi was abusing him a lot, kept saying something or the other. But he remained focused. He knew it was important for him to stay at the crease. He usually doesn't take a runner, but still he knew that if I come, I will run like he does. There won't be any misunderstanding," Sehwag said on a video posted by Star Sports.

Sehwag went onto add, "No matter what series it is (ICC tournament or bilateral), the match between India and Pakistan is always intense. And we will always see fights or incidents taking place between players of both the countries. And I remember there was a statement from Shoaib Akhtar that he will absolutely destroy the top order. I didn't read the statement, neither did Sachin, but Sachin did respond strongly to it in the first over of our innings. He hit 18 runs in that over."

'Shahid Afridi was abusing Sachin Tendulkar a lot' - Sehwag recalls India-Pakistan 2003 World Cup clash

The rivalry between India and Pakistan has transcended borders and is popularly hailed as one of, if not the most, heated and storied contests in international cricket. Therefore, it is only natural for fans to jump at the opportunity to watch the two legendary teams lock horns on the cricket pitch.

The demand for these passes was such that they sold out in mere minutes. The overwhelming desire for the tickets resulted in a myriad of fans queueing up for hours in vain as they were sold out shortly thereafter, forcing those fans to walk away empty-handed.

But fret not, it seems like the organisers have heard the fans' prayers, offering those vying to acquire tickets a second lease on life. The high demand for tickets prompted the organisers to present a fresh batch of passes, which went on sale at 10 am on Wednesday, August 17th. However, they have moved to add a new condition to the fresh batch of tickets.

Shortly after releasing a fresh batch of tickets for the highly anticipated match, Platinum List, the ticketing partner for the tournament released a statement, declaring a policy change with regards to the sale of India vs. Pakistan tickets, "Please note that according to the organisers, India-Pakistan tickets will now be available only in packages with other matches."

This essentially means that fans hoping to catch a glimpse of India and Pakistan going toe-to-toe against each other will have to bundle their purchase of the tickets for the game with that of other matches, which means that fans will have to part ways with higher amounts of money in order to acquire the new batch of passes.
