Ahead of the third and final ODI, Rohit -- who joined the squad for the inconsequential tie -- addressed the reporters and answered how Ashwin is being assessed ahead of the ODI World Cup.

Rohit said, "He has got class, he has got the experience of playing the sport and handling the pressure. It's just that he hasn't played ODIs in the last year or so but you can't take away the class and the experience that the individual has. In the last couple of games, we saw how well he bowled. He has got a lot of variations up his sleeves and in case, there is a chance, we can look at a lot of things."

"The way things are at this point in time, it does well for us because we have got all the backups ready, we have given them enough game time, a lot of time in the middle. So, pretty much happy with how things have panned out in the last couple of weeks," Rohit added.

For the third and final ODI, India do not have the services of vice-captain Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel. Axar continues to sit out due to injury concerns,&nbsp;dealing with a left quadriceps strain. Ashwin, thus, has another chance to make a strong statement and get roped into the CWC final 15. All the participating teams have to name their final 15 before September 28.&nbsp;

The third and final ODI versus Australia is India's last international game before the CWC 2023 edition. They will then play two warm-up games, on September 30 and October 03, before their World Cup opener on October 08, where they face Australia in Chennai.

But Babar dismissed the reports while addressing the press in Lahore.

"There is no ill will in the dressing room. There are discussions after every loss but they get twisted into something else entirely," he said ahead of Pakistan's departure to India before their CWC '23 warm-up game versus New Zealand on Friday (Sep 29).

"The entire team is like a family and there is love and respect there,"&nbsp;Babar stated.

Following their forgettable run in the continental tournament, Pakistan dealt with a major blow as premier pacer Naseem Shah was ruled out of the CWC 2023 edition, in India.

Hasan Ali has been included in the final 15 as the Men in Green are now gearing up for the marquee 50-over World Cup in India, which commences on October 05 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

Babar also spoke at length about the atmosphere of playing in Indian venues, stating that it would be good to exhibit their skills in front of jam-packed crowds.

While Pakistan fans will be present, they will surely be outnumbered by the Indian fans when the two Asian giants lock horns in the mega event, on October 14 in Ahmedabad.

"Unfortunately, we will be missing the fans. However, as far as I know, the games are all sold out so we will be playing in jam-packed stadiums. Although our fans will not be there, I know they will make sure their love is heard on social media. I have heard that the fans in India also show their love, although I have not experienced that as of yet but I am excited to play in India as well," Babar further added.

Pakistan play New Zealand on Friday and meet Australia on October 3 in their two warm-up games, both in Hyderabad.

However, an injury to spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel during Asia Cup 2023, reopened the doors for Ashwin in the shorter format. In the two ODIs versus Australia, he has accounted for four wickets so far and, thus, has made a strong statement with Axar ruled out of the third and final game in Rajkot. Axar, who is dealing with a left quadriceps strain, is expected to return for the CWC '23 warm-up games. If he returns, it will be interesting to see if Ashwin remains part of India's World Cup plans.

Nonetheless, Finch doesn't think Ashwin will be part of the upcoming ICC event. "Because Ashwin is somebody that stands up in big games, whether it's a Test match or a T20 game, he has done it all throughout his career. So I wouldn't be surprised if he's there at the moment as a mentor around the group, but I don't see him making that last 15, unfortunately," Finch, who led Australia to T20 World Cup glory in 2021, further added.

India and Australia will lock horns in the third and final ODI in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27). All CWC '23 participating teams need to announce their final 15 prior to September 28. Hence, it will be interesting to see if Axar regains fitness and what the future has in store for Ashwin in the format.&nbsp;

'Whoever beats India will win CWC '23': Vaughan's BOLD claim after KL Rahul & Co. win ODI series vs Australia

Pakistan cricket team had hoped to travel to Dubai ahead of arriving in India for the ODI World Cup which starts next month on October 5. The plan took a hit as the External Affairs Ministry&nbsp;of India is yet to give clearance to the Pakistan team.&nbsp;

Speaking to WION, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson talked about that issue and said that they now plan to fly directly to Hyderabad on September 27. The new plan, however, is also subject to getting Indian visas.

“We had planned 2 days in Dubai on 25 and 26 before flying for Hyderabad. However, due to an Indian visa delay, we had to cancel our team bonding sessions in Dubai and now plan B is to fly directly on 27 to Hyderabad (via connecting flight from Dubai). But this again is subject to an Indian visa,” said the PCB spokesperson.

The two countries have been at loggerheads with each other amid the political tensions. The same were visible during the recently concluded Asia Cup during which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)&nbsp;decided to not play in Pakistan, the hosts of the regional tournament.

The Asia Cup was finally played with Sri Lanka as co-host and India playing all of their matches in the island country. India eventually won the tournament but Pakistan were not able to reach the final despite being ranked number one in the ICC ODI team rankings.

The Men in Green suffered another blow in the tournament when their premium pace bowler Naseem Shah got injured in the Super Four game against India. The PCB had earlier said that the injury isn't serious but the bowler has subsequently been ruled out of the quadrennial tournament.

Pakistan have named Hasan Ali as Naseem's replacement in the World Cup squad.

The new plan, however, is also subject to getting Indian visas. “We had planned 2 days in Dubai on 25 and 26 before flying for Hyderabad. However, due to an Indian visa delay, we had to cancel our team bonding sessions in Dubai and now plan B is to fly directly on 27 to Hyderabad (via connecting flight from Dubai). India eventually won the tournament but Pakistan were not able to reach the final despite being ranked number one in the ICC ODI team rankings. The PCB had earlier said that the injury isn't serious but the bowler has subsequently been ruled out of the quadrennial tournament. After much delay, Pakistan cricket team's visa issues have finally been sorted and they are now&nbsp;cleared to travel to&nbsp;India.

Earlier on Monday (September 25), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wrote to the International Cricket Council (ICC) raising 'serious concerns'&nbsp;over the delay in&nbsp;Babar Azam &amp; Co.'s&nbsp;travel to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup due to visa issues.

Later in the evening, the ICC confirmed&nbsp;that&nbsp;the Indian government approved the Pakistani team's visas for the mega event in the subcontinent.&nbsp;

It is to be noted that the visa clearance has come less than 48 hours before Pakistan's scheduled travel to India, via Dubai, in the early hours of September 27 (Wednesday).&nbsp;

There is yet no end to the drama as confusion remained in the Pakistan camp over the grant of visa.

"We have not got the call from Indian High Commission yet over visa clearance. Member of our team is stationed there," PCB spokesperon Umar Farooq informed the same&nbsp;agency.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, it is believed that&nbsp;a 10-day process was always in place, with as many as&nbsp;three ministries in India --&nbsp;including External Affairs and Home --&nbsp;involved in the matter of giving clearance to Pakistani visas.

The same procedure is in line&nbsp;for all applications from Pakistan and, hence, there was no specific delay (as reported by PCB).

Moreover, the complaint stating that&nbsp;Pakistan squad could not travel to Dubai holds no significance&nbsp;because there was always the need for biometric tests.

A total of $1.8 million will be distributed for winning the 45 matches in the league phase while $600,000 will go to the six teams getting eliminated in the league stage. The losing semifinalists will get $800,000 each, comprising of a combined $1.6 million. Runners-up will receive $2 million with the winners pocketing $4 million.

The tournament will start on Thursday, October 5 as defending champions England take on New Zealand in a repeat of the 2019 edition’s final. The semifinals of the World Cup will take place in Mumbai and Kolkata, subject to temporary changes. If India reach the World Cup semifinal and don’t face Pakistan, the match will take place in Mumbai while if India and Pakistan go head-to-head in the semifinal, then the match will take place in Kolkata.

The final of the ODI World Cup will take place in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, November 19.

However, Boult’s return will be a welcome boost for the side with Kane Williamson and Tim Southee missing because of injury issues.

"Clearly a guy with a lot of experience (Boult) and certainly really enjoying him back within the group. Straightaway in England, he came in and he was exceptional. It was challenging to bowl quick. The scores were high in England and his expertise and calmness under pressure was irreplaceable," Ferguson told reporters ahead of the series opener.

The Black Caps have been sweating on the fitness of key players like Williamson and Southee, with the latter likely to miss the entire ODI World Cup. Southee injured his right thumb and is set to undergo surgery while Williamson is in the final phase of his rehabilitation before he can make the cut for the World Cup. England's national selector Luke Wright on Monday, September 18 had said Roy won't be judged for not taking part in the Ireland series and he'll still be the top reserve.

"He wasn't expecting to be in that Ireland squad and then to get the news that he was missing out on the World Cup all came as a bit of a hammer blow," Wright said. "We've made it apparent to Jason that we won't judge him differently for that position as the spare batter at the top of the order whether he plays against Ireland or not."

The whole selection drama started when England's Test skipper Ben Stokes decided to make a comeback to the ODI squad just ahead of the quadrennial event. Stokes, notably, had retired from the ODIs last year but made a U-turn on the decision. Stokes' decision put England's up-and-coming star Harry Brook's place under a cloud of doubt.

Many former English cricketers called for Brook's inclusion in the squad but leaving out Roy was not an easy decision. Jason was their one of the top performers at the World Cup winning 2019 campaign but so was Stokes and eventually Roy got the short end of the stick.

With Axar Patel injured during the Asia Cup, it has opened the doors for Ashwin's ODI comeback in India's last series before the CWC 2023 edition at home, starting on October 05 in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;

Not only Ashwin, Washington Sundar has also been included in the India squad for the three ODIs versus the Aussies. Ashwin last played an ODI in early 2022 during India's tour of South Africa. Kuldeep Yadav-Yuzvendra Chahal's rise since mid-2017, when Ashwin wasn't at his best in white-ball formats, along with India stressing for a left-hander down the order, with good hitting prowess, led to Ashwin being sidelined.&nbsp;However, former Indian spinner Amit Mishra feels Ashwin's fielding also kept him away from the shorter formats in recent years.&nbsp;

Mishra said while discussing India's team selection for the Australia series, on Jio Cinema, "Ashwin is undoubtedly a quality bowler and a wicket-taker, but remember this is not a 20-over game. It is of 50 overs. The only reason he has been picked is because if a spinner gets injured, then the team needs to have a wicket-taking option, which Ashwin brings. "Having the experience of 2019 and how good that was and how much that meant to the group and for them to go out and get the opportunity to defend it is something we are relishing and really looking forward to," Root said as reported by the ICC.

As for England's World Cup squad, Root said every player looks forward to play and perform for their country in the big tournaments and it is all about last two games. Notably, England surprisingly dropped Jason Roy from the squad and called up Harry Brook.

"It is very exciting to play in a World Cup event is something that you always look forward to as a player,” Root said.

"Big tournaments and big moments is where you want to go out and perform and impress and deliver for your country."

"You have to get to those last two games - the semi-final and the final - and it is about turning up and putting in the performance when it really counts," he added.

Speaking on who's going to lead the runs and wickets charts at the marquee tournament, Root named two of his team players for the honours.

"I am going to go for Jonny Bairstow (to be the leading run scorer)." Root said.&nbsp;

As for bowling, Root suggested: "He (Adil Rashid) has so many different skills and variations to call upon. We know how important it is to take wickets in the middle overs...he has done a wonderful job for us for a long time and I anticipate him being very difficult on these wickets."

Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain and coach Misbah pointed out that Pakistan would only do well if everyone in the squad contributes collectively and isn't dependent on a select few (namely captain Babar, Shaheen Shah Afridi and keeper-batter Mohammed Rizwan). In this regard, he opined, "Don't just expect Babar to perform every time. This is not possible. This team has been successful as a collective unit and they must remember that even in India."

Misbah mentioned that now is not the time to raise questions on Babar, who had been entrusted with the role long back. "Now is not the time to talk about his captaincy. He is someone who can be relied upon in the World Cup as a captain and batsman," he stated.&nbsp;

In addition, the 2015 ODI World Cup skipper opened up on the speculations and discussions regarding a divide in the locker room, as well as rumours about a player leaking inside information. He feels all this will&nbsp;only harm the team's cause.

"I have worked with these players as captain, coach and chief selector and I back them to do well in the World Cup," Misbah added.

New Zealand will participate in a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh starting on Thursday, September 21 before they travel to India for the World Cup warm-up games. While R Ashwin's return has made heads turn, Yuzvendra Chahal continues to miss out and this has not been well-received by former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh.&nbsp;

Axar Patel's injury, during the just-concluded Asia Cup, led to the return of Ashwin and Washington Sundar in the ODI squad.

However, Chahal's omission has left Harbhajan Singh baffled.&nbsp;

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan said, “Yuzvendra Chahal should have been here. He has not been given an opportunity. It is beyond my understanding. Either he has fought with someone or he has said something to someone, I don't know. If we talk only about skill, his name should have been there in this team because a lot of Team India players are resting."

With his World Cup dreams looking bleak, Chahal has been busy representing Kent in County Cricket. Meanwhile, Ashwin and Sundar have a wonderful opportunity to perform well in the upcoming three ODIs and stake a claim in the CWC squad.

Talking about Axar, he is expected to recover and, hence, is&nbsp;part of the squad for the final ODI (subject to fitness).

While talking to journalist&nbsp;Vimal Kumar on his Youtube channel, Manjrekar spoke at length about similarities between Kohli and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and opined on the former not wanting power or leadership in the current Indian setup.&nbsp;

Manjrekar said, "The one similarity between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar is that both of them enjoy playing cricket. They want to be on the field. He was not part of the team for the game against Bangladesh but was still on the field. I don't think Virat Kohli wants power or leadership."
